- truspector, on 10/10/2007, -11/+137Only six more days and I can cast my family, friends, and life aside for the greater good of mankind. Everyone can thank me later.
- logicalnoise, on 10/10/2007, -6/+63well FPS' tend to do poorly there as well which also makes the score pretty unique.
- Topher06, on 10/10/2007, -4/+43It means there generally was no bias about the game, from a country that doesn't like Xbox360 or games without half-dressed cute Manga anime females. If Halo 3 was Sailor Moon running around in a miniskirt, it would be the best selling game of all time in Japan.
- truspector, on 10/10/2007, -14/+52Is that why it's the most played online console game of all time?
- logicalnoise, on 10/10/2007, -4/+42Awww someone get owned online?
- natefisher, on 10/10/2007, -0/+37I think it is the best selling pre-order game of all-time. I could be wrong.
- UwasaWaya, on 10/10/2007, -1/+37For what it is, Bioshock is amazing. It's like a good book, or like the Shawshank Redemption (not comparing, just bear with me)... it's something you sit, and watch (play) and think about. You puzzle over it, you work your way through in different ways, you challenge yourself to try new paths.
No one is going to have a room full of friends who will grunt when you beat a splicer with a wrench or pound a beer when you harvest a little sister. It's a single player experience.
Halo 3 is meant to be played with a room full of friends and a cold beverage at your side. You cheer each other on, make fun of the way the other guy killed himself with the rocket launcher and generally throw yourself into an orgy of blood over and over again.
Different experiences. - Rovient, on 10/10/2007, -4/+33I really hope that the game is as good as everyone's hoping. Is it just me or does no one even mention Bioshock anymore, only a few weeks after release, and I thought THAT was supposed to be gaming perfection? Everyone's usually so worried about "the next big thing" that they don't bother to enjoy whatever it is they currently have!
- logicalnoise, on 10/10/2007, -1/+28what the hell is your argument? I stated something that is a fact FPS's don't usually review or get well received in japan. It gives the review context your statement does jack squat.
- xcheats, on 10/10/2007, -2/+29Last time I checked, you needed a 360 to play Halo and if I remember correctly, one of the main selling points of the Xbox & 360 was for the Halo franchise and if I also remember right, consoles are sold on the premise of good games.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/10/2007, -3/+28I "believe" you can't spell, much less be old enough to play this game.
- killerofkiller, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_video_games
no lol... halo 2 had over 9 million sold... and it's the 18th best selling console game - tsbicca, on 10/10/2007, -4/+24Go Earth!
- Guagloves, on 10/10/2007, -2/+22the only thing that will make Japanese people buy a 360 is an exclusive Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest title but that would never happen
- Klarth, on 10/10/2007, -3/+22"The animations are stiff and boring, and the FMV sequences look as if they were done in-engine! Sorely disappointing. The controller hurts my hands. Wait for Sony to buy Bungie; the PS3 version will have a consistent 120fps framerate due to the extra benefits offered by Blu-Ray. Kutaragi4eva!"
- truspector, on 10/10/2007, -7/+25"And... console game yes, probably, but PC gaming crushes it in terms of people playing."
Do you think that's why I clearly specified console game? - Nobi-Wan, on 10/10/2007, -5/+23Halo 2's campaign sucked, and Bungie even admitted the heavy focus on dual wielding took away what made the franchise good in the first game. The focus in Halo 3 seems equally balanced now whether you decide to pick up two guns or just one.
- Rev0lver, on 10/10/2007, -3/+20Keep in mind that how many people said the same for XP when it first came out?
- gamer31, on 10/10/2007, -26/+42"Relatively huge scores for the game in a country where the Xbox 360 is floundering horribly."
What does that have to do with anything? they were reviewing a game, not hardware. - Rev0lver, on 10/10/2007, -5/+19I sympathize with what you are saying, but you have to keep in mind that PC gaming and console gaming are on two completely different planes. For PC gamers, Halo 3 would have been revolutionary...Ten years ago [Not counting graphics, of course]. As far as console gaming goes, Halo has brought a lot to the table. Console gaming will never be in the same league as PC gaming will be and you cant argue that, but give credit where its due as far as the different games on their respective consoles.
- defjam, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Ok there were 4 guys who review the game and there are 4 numbers, one guy gave it a 10, and the 3 others each gave it a 9.
- natefisher, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15As a keyboard and mouse player I use to say the same thing, but that is no longer true. Spend a day playing a good FPS on a current console (COD2 or 4, The Halos, Shadowrun, the Tom Clancy Games) just for a day and if you are worth your weight as a gamer you will get good at it and love it.
- grumbel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Halo might have not invented anything completly new, but it did a lot of stuff right (rechargeable shild, two weapon limits, grenade and melee on seperate button, vehicles), it simply is a pretty good mix and has very nice art direction on top of that. That said, I know games with better story, with more interesting gameplay and all that stuff, but Halo simply seems to have the right mix to be attractive to a lot of people, which other games just don't.
- HOOKSTER1231, on 10/10/2007, -4/+15 I doubt that you have played this game, halo 3. so please hold your anti-M$ fanboy crap to your self.
- Vandango, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11All time still goes to Super Mario Bros at 40 million. I think natefisher is right about the pre-order. Most games don't have that type of pre-hype to claim that spot.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_video_games#Xbox_360 - Phasmorphage, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12You do realize it's an X360 game only right?
- truspector, on 10/10/2007, -4/+14You really are the sharpest knife in the drawer.
- xcheats, on 10/10/2007, -7/+16Yeah aside from the most innovative online console gaming lobby and quickmatch design that the entire xbox 360 live experience was derived from I sure its not much different at all.
/sarcasm.
Anyone with that point of view honestly doesn't own or haven't honestly played Halo 2. And honestly, shut the ***** up about PC gamers having better games for years because thats a bunch of *****. - natefisher, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I think that is a ok question (considering) but honestly no I do not believe they did. This thing will push the 360 without them risking it by buying people off. Halo is the type of game you either buy it or don't. A good review might get a couple people you hated Halo 2 to come back but that is about it. Again not worth the risk by MS. So I would bet no to your question.
- bs0l, on 10/10/2007, -9/+18Oh Halo, you never cease to amaze.
Except for Halo 2. - daveisfera, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12The problem is that Digg is a very online-centric environment, so a lot of the people on here tend to be a bit more multi-player oriented. Plus, hype is always bigger before games come out because why do you want to be on Digg posting about how cool a game is when you could just be playing it instead?
- louiedog, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Why does it have to be revolutionary, why can't it just be fun? Are you seriously implying nothing since Battlefield is worth anything?
- BabyWookie, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11This is huge, coming from this magazine. Famitsu is notoriously brutal with their reviews. They wouldn't cut an American franchise any slack for sentimental reasons either. This score indicates that the game is outstanding. Glad I pre-ordered.
- martyFREEDOM, on 10/10/2007, -8/+16A friend told me that Halo 3 is already the best selling game of all time, and it isn't even out yet. Does anybody know if this is true?
- LuCiFer6, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I also think he was trying to show that the Japanese reviewers were not bias when they reviewed Halo3. Being that the 360 is an American game system and Halo 3 was developed in the US you would think the reviews would haven been bias compared to Nintendo and Sony reviews.
- joeyjojo402, on 10/15/2007, -4/+12Jackass! Please stop with this nonsense. You are not even remotely clever for saying that.
- quentinp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I find that's a real problem for me this time of year! I'm trying to finish up Two Worlds before it comes out, but I've started Bioshock (PC) again on hard to get the bad ending. And I pre-ordered Orange box so I have Episode One to play which I hadn't gotten around to.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10i like halo.
- DesktopGeo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Maybe the surprising fact that Halo got a good score from a brutal magazine in a non-FPS loving country is an indication that it's actually good?
I never really play Halo all that much, but I do like to use logic on occasion. - Bagoz, on 10/10/2007, -5/+12Can`t wait for the SDF Review!
- dweeb79, on 10/10/2007, -7/+13The multiplayer is fun but the story sucked ass. It was such a lame story that even Bungie admitted how bad it was. I have a feeling Halo 3 will come full circle and actually deliver this time around.
- tsunamitomi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7The single player has always been quick in the Halo series. Even Halo 1 could be beaten on Legendary in around 5 hours. (not by me, but those with lots of practice) Hopefully the 4-player co-op with the meta-game will add a lot of replay value to the game.
- fingaz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7The big hype is because everyone I know who is a Halo fan never played all of the revolutionary games that you mentioned above. I agree, there is nothing revolutionary about Halo (aside from the enhanced graphics) but to many people who never played Doom or Quake or any PC FPS, it is revolutionary to them. Not saying that everyone who loves Halo was never a PC FPS gamer, but I think that is the case for the majority of them. Microsoft seems to have tapped into a new generation of FPS players for their console. And since the Xbox lacked any exciting games when it first came out, people who rushed to buy an Xbox were pretty much forced into playing Halo every day and just simply learned to love it.
- EvilCan, on 02/26/2008, -2/+8You are a dumbass. Do you really think a well respected gaming publication is going to risk its reputation for a couple of hundred thousand?
- Hermitwise, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I've played the beta and it was incredibly balanced. The thing that I didn't like about Halo2, was when you were losing you were just not having fun because of how frustrating it was, it felt like constantly losing in rock paper siccors. When I lost in halo3, I was still having fun, it always felt like I had a fair chance to live or die and I wasn't just being flogged to death by the game itself.
- bigbadgoat, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9The highest selling album of all time? "Thiller" by Michael Jackson... he must be the greatest musician to ever play.
- vclortho, on 10/10/2007, -6/+11I partially agree... I can understand why people think Halo is fun, but I don't understand why people like it SO much. All the times I have played both Halo and Halo 2, I have felt like it was okay. An 8 out of 10.
- dandonia, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7I really dont ge the whole PC gaming scene, My last computer and current laptop were both top of the range machines pretty well kitted out for games, i payed £3700 for the both over time and even upgraded the pc but i dont see why pc gaming is so great. I hate keyboard and mouse though most swear by it, there is just too much going on for me to be keyboard and mousin, even though i can touch type and *****. There is no point in playnig a pc game with a controler cos you will get owned and there are far more hitches in the games.
Halo 3 wil l be cool, not because its going to be the best game ever or even the best game of the year but simply because its a good story and it has been worked on so much. you know it wouldnt get released if they didnt think it was gonna be amazing soooo thats good enough for me. - Myonosken, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6You haven't even played this one.
- popothebright, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Japanese people only play RPG's which feature children as the main characters. In Japanese culture children are good and adults are evil. Seriously. There are so many examples of this in their fiction.
Conversely, in America, child-actors are seen as the most excruciatingly annoying thing in the universe. -
