- Dgen_X, on 10/30/2007, -1/+58Did this happen in......Soviet Russia?
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -8/+46but...but...but I thought the new 360's with more heatsinks and such are supposed to fix the problem!
- tektalk, on 10/30/2007, -0/+25High five anyone?
- Nudar, on 10/30/2007, -1/+24Still trying to find the photo of the submitter's mom.
- MagicCake, on 10/30/2007, -3/+24Ah, GameStop. Why do you suck? I started avoiding my local GameStop once I realized the manager actually won't sell people PS3s. He'll sit there and argue with them about why it's crap and the Wii is better. Not the kind of person that should be running a game store, if you ask me. Now I try to just buy games at Target, if I can. No one argues with you, and the games are still in the damn plastic, and not covered in four layers of stickers.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/30/2007, -1/+21Hahahaha. That's pretty hilarious. I guess my GRAW disc with a huge scratch in it is my imagination (and the European Commissioner's too).
Not to mention that optical drive on the 360 I was just sent by MS (when my 360 died with the RRoD for the 2nd time) won't open if there is no disc in it, it has to be pried open.
Also, it'd be nice if it took less than a month to get it back. Which is probably why Gamestop stopped selling the replacement plan. People would definitely return their unit to Gamestop instead of sending it to MS for a month.
I also kind of think that Gamestop's warranty system relies on them being able to sell the units they take in as used when they are repaired, and the market for used 360s is pretty depressed. Really any 360 without an HDMI port fetches a lot less on the used market than it once did. - inactive, on 10/30/2007, -1/+17I'll never shop at GS again - ever since they refused to exchange my PSP (which was 30 minutes old, and had a scratched screen) within their own 7 day "open system" return/exchange policy - fighting them in small claims court with the help of the NY State Attorney General.
Gamestop is the most unprofessional company I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with - so much for customer service. - inactive, on 10/30/2007, -2/+18Gamestop has a right to refuse to sell their services. What the hell are you saying? That they have to do it? They're not voiding preexisting warrenties on the 360's. They're just not giving out new ones. They have every right to do this so STFU.
- JigoroKano, on 10/30/2007, -0/+15The 3 year MS warranty doesn't cover everything, just the RROD basically. There are other, less common problems.
But I pretty much agree with you regardless. - HappyScrappy, on 10/30/2007, -1/+14It's called statistics. In a large enough population, nearly every combination of possibilities will occur, no matter how unlikely.
- sgoogle, on 10/30/2007, -0/+13Dugg for actually reading the article. Obviously some people didn't
- Frozo, on 10/30/2007, -2/+14I recently went into a GameStop and when I asked if they have any PS3's, the salesdick responded, "only if you work here." MAYBE that would have been funny duing launch, but NOW? And so sorry I didn't choose a career as a GameStop cashier so I could get such extraordinary perks! lol I HATE that f'n store.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/30/2007, -2/+14That takes a month. I know, I've had mine replaced twice. Some people don't feel like having their 360 gone for a month while it is fixed.
- CamoChris, on 10/30/2007, -0/+12I've had two 360s fail but neither showed the Red Rings, they just froze and when restarted froze again and again until they wouldn't even turn on unless left to cool down for a while. But because they didn't show the Red Rings they wouldn't be covered under the new 3 year warranty as I understand it; luckily mine were still under the one year warranty when they failed.
- Dasmitch, on 10/30/2007, -8/+19MAN! Bee movie the game has no chance on getting out before its street date...guess ill be camping out that day.
- Natetendo83, on 10/30/2007, -0/+11Nobody force's you to buy the thing. And considering how often 360's break you can't blame anyone for charging like 60 bucks bucks for a 2 year plan or whatever it is
- jjremy, on 10/30/2007, -7/+18I'm off to go play to deeply into Mario Galaxy!
- ibeetle, on 10/30/2007, -5/+15XBox 360 warranty is not 3 years people.
The 3 year extension only applies to those that experience "a general hardware failure indicated by three flashing red lights" per XBox Warranty update website: "All other existing XBox 360 warranty policies remain in place."
And per the XBox general Warranty page the warranty is 90 days.
If you buy a XBox today the warranty is 90 days. If you bought a XBox last month the warranty was 90 days from the date of purchase. If you bought a XBox last year the warranty was 90 days.
There is no magical 3 year warranty not now... not ever. The only thing Microsoft gave a 3 year warranty to were XBox systems that were already in homes that experienced the red rings of death. If you never get the red rings of death or if you buy a new off the self unit as of today you get 90 days... not 3 years. - synce, on 10/30/2007, -0/+10I need it. After sending back my 360 for the sixth time, MS sent it to the wrong address and a complete stranger signed for it. Now they won't do anything about it and neither will UPS. Sure would be nice if such a situation could be avoided for someone like yourself, right?
- grumbel, on 10/30/2007, -1/+10They only do it for RRoD, not for any other faults (i.e. drives scratching DVD and such).
- MagicCake, on 10/30/2007, -0/+9Rarely. The difference in price is usually so small that I'll buy it new if I have the chance. And if I'm going to do that, I'll try to go somewhere else for it. The whole sticker thing really gets to me, especially when I'm supposed to be getting a new copy.
- DanaG, on 10/30/2007, -0/+8Minor correction; Microsoft also extended their standard warranty from 90 days to 1 year.
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemsetup/xbox ... - reddevil3, on 10/30/2007, -4/+12MS does offer a 3 year warranty, but having these in-store warranties allows us to go and get a new console quickly. The 3-year warranty is a good backup, but it takes 4-6 weeks which is just too long...
- zeejay, on 10/30/2007, -0/+8Getting your 360 replaced immediately beats the hell out of having to go through the hassle of packaging it up, shipping it, and then waiting for however long MS decides to take. And "only major problem"? Far from it....
- Tantrum, on 10/30/2007, -0/+7Not surprising at all given the extremely high failure rate of the Xbox360. It's probably the most unreliable console ever. Not only do resellers loose money selling the console but now they loose huge when you bring it in and swap it out if it goes bad. I wonder how many other stores will also drop their PRPs on the 360 as well. I do find it ironic though that resellers are all about pushing that PRP on you when most of the time, it's free money for them. But the 360 is so unreliable that many gamers including myself are needing to use the PRPs and now the resellers are starting refuse PRPs on them. Funny stuff.
- vividbreeze, on 10/30/2007, -3/+10now best buy needs to be next with their outrageous prices
- Comatose51, on 10/30/2007, -0/+6So the 4 - 6 weeks is worth the price of the GS warranty to you? Not a rhetorical question. There might be a business plan in there. Basically, one could start a business that does this where you exchange broken xboxes for working ones for a price, assuming that Microsoft will agree to repair or exchange the broken one.
- MagicCake, on 10/30/2007, -0/+5Hahahaha
- warpdesign, on 10/30/2007, -3/+8So Gamestop is getting burned because Microsoft's hardware is buggy and unreliable and you people flame Gamestop?? Where's the anger and vitriol for ol MS? You can't blame Gamestop for making this decision! They have every right to cover their ass.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/30/2007, -6/+11Heatsinks do not make the device cooler. They simply allow the device to get heat out of the case better.
And ANY 360 (or PS3) that it put in an enclosed cabinet will heat up to a very high temperature rather quickly. This is simply because both use over 160W of power, and in an enclosed case, their cooling system is thwarted. They could have sophisticated refrigerant-based cooling systems and it still would do no good in an enclosed case. They're going to heat up, including the case. - BentSea, on 10/30/2007, -0/+5Finally someone's actually having to pay for those EVIL and OUTRAGEOUS extended warranties
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -6/+11From the comments: "I know I have never had a problem with my Xbox 360 or my Wii, but I have actually had TWO defective Playstation 3 systems."
Wtf? - MagicCake, on 10/30/2007, -0/+5Argh, double post. But still, hahaha...
- murasako, on 10/30/2007, -0/+4The entertainment store where I work doesn't offer any PRP or anything, but we did stop doing returns on defective Xbox 360 because it is so "special." We direct all customers to Microsoft; make THEM deal with the ***** thing. Between customers bringing in old, broken, stolen consoles and trying to steal them, video games are a HUGE loss for us... well, not as much as Bibles and Rap CDs. (Yeah, that's a fun fact: bibles get stolen like crazy)
- Rinsan, on 10/30/2007, -4/+8"Heatsinks do not make the device cooler. They simply allow the device to get heat out of the case better."
Isn't that the ***** definition of cooling? - bizsumpark182, on 10/30/2007, -0/+4If you have a Game Crazy in your area go and shop there. I can't stand GameStop, They suck as a company, trust me I learned a lot about them when I worked there. Don't get me wrong though, its a cool fun place to work...but the company just sucks.
- cambrown99, on 10/30/2007, -3/+6dugg for Gamestop losing money
- HappyScrappy, on 10/30/2007, -1/+4People think that a device "with good cooling" will feel cooler. This is very often not the case. The point is to get the heat to where it can be taken away by convection.
So a device can be a great cooler (like a fridge) and actually be warmer on the outside than a device that is a worse cooler, also like a fridge. It has hot coils on the back. So this fellow who says "the case doesn't get hot" is using the wrong criteria to measure cooling. Especially if he's putting it in an enclosed space. - apoc06, on 11/01/2007, -1/+4true, however the device is still prone to breaking, which annoys alot of us that own xbox360s; new owners and those of us with refurbs alike.
- grumbel, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3Yes, getting the session expired message a lot in the last few days as well (Mozilla, Ubuntu Gutsy).
- Konrad9, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3Sure would be nice if they did fix the problem.
At least we don't have to blow in it, I guess.. - Corinthos, on 10/30/2007, -1/+4They fixed mine because the drive wouldn't open anymore. It was 18 months old. Took 5 weeks though.
- gwolf, on 10/30/2007, -11/+14Who needs it, the 360 warranty is plenty long as it is. Unless GS can do better why would they even try.
Extended warranties are the biggest ripoff there is, I have never bought one and have never regretted it. If the fact that your toys may brake some day gives you anxiety then you can't afford them in the first place. - synce, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3Have you seen the people who visit GameStop lately? Shop online. Hell, even go to Wal-Mart instead.
- foxhoundadmin, on 10/30/2007, -2/+5john.furlong, you basically just proved the new heatsinks don't really work. although, i know you're lying (probably cause you're a 360 fanboy, and you're an idiot that thinks cooler on the outside means cooler on the inside), because MY 360 premium (hdmi) gets just as hot as my previous 360 premium (non-hdmi). don't fret, though. i mean, most people don't really know that their 360 is basically just a freakin' microwave!
p.s. has anybody else been getting a lot of "your session has expired..." messages when trying to submit comment(s)? - Inverno, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3Crazed psycho? http://www.actsofgord.com/ ?
- sadilak, on 11/07/2007, -0/+3So are you getting her insurance money?
- supermanred, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3Yeah, they have to be very retarded.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/30/2007, -0/+2Simpsons game comes out in 4 days.
