- totorototoro, on 01/23/2008, -2/+203she came out against a video game for supposedly promoting sex, then uses that cover to promote her book?
- logicalnoise, on 01/23/2008, -1/+118well based on the non deleted reviews, it's not like this book needed any help sucking.
There's 5, 5 star reviews and each one is one line only and reek of PR plants.
one, 4 star review that sounds like a very confused man
and then 47 1-2 star reviews explaining how this idiotic woman just wrote about common sense and slapped 29.99 on the cover. - blindhammer, on 01/23/2008, -2/+100Oh no, a video game depicted something that humans have been doing for thousands upon thousands of years and something nearly every organism on the planet has to do to survive! The horror!
- DeadKyle, on 01/23/2008, -0/+90I love that someone put the Mass Effect box art as an alternative picture for her book, awesome! that move gets 5 stars.
- KeepOffMyLawn, on 01/24/2008, -1/+68I love the "Tags customers associate with this product"
ignorant (78), hypocrisy (63), garbage (61), junk (55), hypocrite (52), hack (51), bigot (43), terrible (38), bigoted (33), bias (29), cult (17)
Now that's activism.
(and do you seriously all have Amazon accounts?) - supersteve, on 01/23/2008, -0/+65here is what i said on Amazon.
I recently saw Cooper Lawrence doing a segment on Fox News. She basically attacked a product she has never used and all of her arguments were complete lies.
I am not sure how a person like this even gets a chance to write a book. Why would anyone want to trust her option when she acts like a child?
I have never read your book Mrs. Lawrence but I assume it is full of nudity and violence. It should be rated A and only sold at a corner store on the top shelf in a silver bag. Your book is hurting our children. - inactive, on 01/23/2008, -1/+58No, it is not that simple. Mass Effect is being portrayed as something that it is not. These invalid criticisms are bad for Mass Effect and the are bad for the video game industry. Just one step closer to government censorship...
- PRlME, on 01/24/2008, -0/+57One of the funnest comment i found on the Amazon page:
By Don T Meswgamers (Seattle, Wa):
I recently saw this book in a used bookstore holding up one end of a broken table. I read as much as I could before my arm got tired of holding up the above mentioned table. After a few chapters I realized the book was indeed best used for furniture support. Don't waste your time. - yodanation, on 01/24/2008, -1/+55I guess the lesson is not to mess with people who use computers.
- Goosemaster513, on 01/23/2008, -1/+44She deserves every negative review she gets. Seeing that people "mostly gamers" are very taken back by her "to put nicely," CRAP; that she tried to argue out on Fox News is completely unacceptable. If she is going to try to persuade family's not to buy Mass Effect for reasons she clearly has no idea about, then people should be able to persuade others to not buy her book for reasons that have no relevance.
- Waldoze, on 01/24/2008, -0/+38this is the best review so far:
"Cooper Lawrence definitely does some things right in this book. Take the image on the cover. This image is very flattering and shows how attractive Ms. Lawrence is. She has a nice figure, and is posed in a way that is casual and fun, with one hand playfully tucked in a pocket. Ms. Lawrence comes off as very appealing and sexy in this photo.
There are other things that aren't so good about this book. Ms. Lawrence's ideas and analysis are somewhat shallow and lacking in citation or example, which undermines her arguments and credibility.
However, the cover photo is very nice, and somewhat mitigates the book's lack of compelling content in that it looks good on your coffee table. All told, a solid two-star effort." - projjalc, on 01/24/2008, -0/+34(.) - the point
(X) - you are here - wild, on 01/23/2008, -1/+32Um actually, they show Mass Effect on the screen and repeat the name many times, even going so far as to blur out alien butt. You must have the wrong video.
- bootle, on 01/23/2008, -9/+38Meh, I'd still do her
- brwright, on 01/23/2008, -1/+29Some good comments:
"Don't judge a book by it's cover
but since you like to judge games without playing them, I will take the liberty of ignoring the old saying."
"Doesn't it suck to have people like me give you a one star review when I haven't even read the book? I mean what am I thinking?
But I didn't go onto Fox News and speak poorly of your book for 3 minutes."
"This author sure has a lot to say considering her book is mostly filled with drivel and opinionated nonsense. Don't bother with this overpriced garbage. Instead of writing a book, she should have posted this to her MySpace." - morningmatters, on 01/24/2008, -1/+26Interesting to watch gamers acting like activists.
- crombenevolant, on 01/24/2008, -0/+25As satisfying as it might be to bombard her email, DONT DO IT. She is a publicity whore and is probably loving this as she is no-name hack that nobody had ever heard of before she was on Fox. Don't propel her career in any way. The best way to punish someone like this is to send letters/emails to Fox telling them how disappointed you are that they had someone on as an expert that had no relevant knowledge on the subject. As for her, the whole world should just ignore her and let her shrivel and die.
- Rsulliv1, on 01/24/2008, -0/+25Now her book is promoting the game:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-images/1 ... - MadTom, on 01/23/2008, -2/+25I'm sure any kid has seen a movie with much more sexual notations than this. I really wish TV media would stay out of video game coverage and stick to telling lies over more important matters like our Nations Economy (For those in the U.S.)
- Keddren, on 01/24/2008, -1/+21Last time I looked, old people made the laws in this country.
- TeamOverload, on 01/24/2008, -2/+22Now amazons deleting reviews? What if ppl are offereing legit reviews, they are just gonna delete them? That's bs.
- SemiSarcastic, on 01/23/2008, -0/+20Wow...Looks like Cooper Lawrence is seriously getting smacked around on the internet. 67 negative reviews on amazon.com plus 3 related articles here on digg. Serves her right though.
- Andrew84, on 01/24/2008, -0/+20How about this: If you want to leave a comment please at least read the article
- toppgun, on 01/24/2008, -0/+20I'd film it and release it to the public with her forged signature to discredit her.
- funnydale, on 01/24/2008, -1/+21And much like the Resident Evil flap...gamers keep on taking the bait...
1) Some hack pundit go's on TV or writes a blog implying gamers are illiterate 9-year olds (or in this case, makes up outrageous allegations about a game).
2) The gaming community gets up in arms; then responds by sending thousands of poorly written emails -- many of them end up reinforcing the stereotypes that the gaming community were so outraged about.
3) Then a week later, the pundit goes on his/her radio/TV show, then reads some of the more moronic crap that they got sent to them by gamers
Thus, in an ironic twist, gamers are helping reinforce the stereotype that they are illiterate children, by giving this woman free ammunition. - inactive, on 01/24/2008, -0/+19I just spent about 20 minutes refreshing amazon to read reviews as they come in. Hilarious stuff. I can just imagine her agent or publicists tomorrow morning as she breaks the news;
"Hey Coop... boy was your book getting some heavy traffic on amazon last night"
"Well, it's the cover. I look hot on it. Plus that spot on fox news probably got me a bunch of buys, everyone loves that station."
"Yeah, about that..." - cbegin, on 01/24/2008, -1/+20GAMER. Do not ***** with.
- chingy1788, on 01/23/2008, -0/+19The Culture Perfectionist - TCP - Transmission Control Protocol
I saw that fox video
why take a review or any advice from some one who hasn't used the product
I'm going to review Starcraft 2 using only Pictures - manchld, on 01/24/2008, -0/+18Comment by brent bucci "brent" (CA)
As a man, I feel that Cooper Lawrence objectifies men in this bock, as I have clearly been shown in scientific studies run by the University of Santa Cruz, which show a direct correlation between violent actions and individuals who have read or listen to the trash spouted by this "psychologist". Do not buy or read. (Ps: mass effect is awesome, and when I have sex in the game, I think of you Cooper Lawrence) - roosterjm2k2, on 01/24/2008, -0/+17actualy, its all sexual...unless its asexual...
- roosterjm2k2, on 01/24/2008, -1/+18I dont think it's immature at all.
See, we don't have the power of public image that she does, we cannot achieve to play on her level...but we do have a strong power...masses, and the ability to use the internet.
What she did was blatant lying... she gets what she has coming. Shes Jack Thompson with a Rack (a nice one) - bagboyrebel, on 01/23/2008, -1/+16"but they can still share their opinions"
I don't think slander is protected speech. - Burrito, on 01/24/2008, -0/+15Or service industry workers. Let us all not forget the lessons we learned from Fight Club.
- meamog, on 01/23/2008, -2/+17It's called "libel".
An untruthful statement about a person, published in writing or through broadcast media, that injures the person's reputation or standing in the community. Because libel is a tort (a civil wrong), the injured person can bring a lawsuit against the person who made the false statement. Libel is a form of defamation, as is slander (an untruthful statement that is spoken, but not published in writing or broadcast through the media). - Esprit, on 01/24/2008, -0/+14I like how all the negative reviews are from today or yesterday, all saying how bad the book sucked.
- CrazyRedHatter, on 01/23/2008, -0/+13Personally I think this is a creative and effective way of protesting misinformation and bias. Maturity is a pretty vague concept to be throwing around like that.
- espempire, on 01/23/2008, -4/+17The truth is that most gamers dont care what anyone says about the game, its about how good the game is. Period. But it is great that gamers are taking it right back to her, not that anyone really was reading her book anyways.
- nymphetamine, on 01/24/2008, -1/+14Another good one: "you reviewed a game without playing it. So i am doing the same thing to your book. This book has offensive language, nudity and a horrible sex scene. complete garbage this can be marketed to kids! OMG!"
- Kzoosucks, on 01/23/2008, -0/+13She must have guessed that gamers would never have found her on Fox News. Silly goose.
- whatthefu, on 01/24/2008, -0/+13Why should she get to talk about a game on national TV if she's never even played it? I'd understand if she would have played the game and all that, but it's unacceptable that she is on TV and actually SCOFFING at the guy when he asks her if she's played it.
- skaldicpoet9, on 01/24/2008, -0/+12I find it hilarious that whenever these sorts of debates are brought up all other forms of entertainment are not even mentioned. Movies, television, books and even comic books have all of these same elements that are described as what is "bad" about video games. I think the problem is the fact that a lot of people still consider video games to be mostly geared toward children and teenagers. However, they fail to recognize that the average age of a gamer is now 33 years old. It is sad to see people arguing about something they really don't have any knowledge about but what do you expect from Fox News.
- supersteve, on 01/24/2008, -1/+13it's called sarcasm *****!
- schlottj, on 01/24/2008, -0/+12http://www.myspace.com/thecooperlawrenceshow have fun
- schlottj, on 01/24/2008, -0/+12wow talk about being a hypocrite,
this woman blasts video games for showing some side boob(requires an ID of an 17year old to purchase
but then markets a sexual explicit photo book(can be purchased by any child without ID - Andrew84, on 01/24/2008, -0/+12If she can review the appropriateness of a video game with playing it then we can most certainly review her book without reading it.
- Pake, on 01/24/2008, -0/+12The blurring out of the partial crack had me laughing for a while, when you realize just how much more skin is shown during the commercials and by some of the news reporters and their cleavage.
- norman619, on 01/24/2008, -0/+11I'm gonna review Duke Nukem Forever.
- atonement, on 01/24/2008, -0/+11"Making Peace with My Inner Overachiever: I wasn't going to review, but the title of the book made me think: I could read it and be upset by her lack of understanding of life (or so it seems, I mean, I don't know anything about the actual book), BUT I decided that I'd just make peace with myself. I happen to be an overachiever, as you can tell by my review of a book I've never even read!"
Review was then tagged with product: Rectal Hygienic Anal Douche - Cleansing System, Easy to Use & Clean - skaldicpoet9, on 01/24/2008, -0/+11Man, I actually called and got put on the air, my cover was Punk Rock 101 but I just couldn't make an ass out of myself and gamers everywhere so I just spouted off some stuff about Punk and then they hung up on me. As much as I wanted to just lay into her, it would have just added credence to all of these people's arguments and I think that would give gamers an even worse rep. Oh well.
- blup3ace, on 01/24/2008, -1/+11it's more like the players don't care if mass effect is a good game or not, they just want to defend their industry from these ignorant "know-it-alls" trying to BS on our hobby.
