Gamers Strike Back Against Cooper Lawrence On Amazon

news.filefront.com — After hearing the offensive and biased attack against Mass Effect on Fox News, I decided to check out some links on Cooper Lawrence, the psychologist who took part in the biased strike on the game. I came across her book on Amazon.com titled ‘The Cult of Perfection: Making Peace with Your Inner Overachiever’.

Mass Effect IS NOT about rampant full frontal nudity with He-Man ***** Twi-leks to settle his Captain Kirk ego and lust for alien ass. This is puzzling me because console games are tame as an angry house cat when it comes to the pissed off tiger with a loose latch on his cage that is PC games and sexuality.

          If I were looking for a game to be offended at for the portrayal women as nothing more than cleavage smuggling whores who drop their panties at beck and whim so they can throw themselves in your path to fulfill themselves as your next sexual conquest would be the Witcher.

    I think McCullough's blog last week was more outrageous, but the gamers response to that (comments on his blog, and whatever else) was equally as immature as spamming Lawrence's Amazon reviews. Even the guy on the FOX news segment was all antsy to fire back at Lawrence, instead of having a normal discussion. Some people need to grow up.

          By your logic we should be dealing to her 2x what she's dealing to us, giving:

          Now, does anyone know how we can achieve this?

You're basically stating that you can't show anything sexual, even if it's part of the story (ie, two people fall in love and have sex. Or maybe they get drunk and have sex).

            People aren't playing Mass Effect to see sex. You can hop on the internet and go to porn sites and watch sex for free, if you want.

    I am not sure how a person like this even gets a chance to write a book. Why would anyone want to trust her option when she acts like a child?


    I have never read your book Mrs. Lawrence but I assume it is full of nudity and violence. It should be rated A and only sold at a corner store on the top shelf in a silver bag. Your book is hurting our children.

    "Cooper Lawrence definitely does some things right in this book. Take the image on the cover. This image is very flattering and shows how attractive Ms. Lawrence is. She has a nice figure, and is posed in a way that is casual and fun, with one hand playfully tucked in a pocket. Ms. Lawrence comes off as very appealing and sexy in this photo.

    There are other things that aren't so good about this book. Ms. Lawrence's ideas and analysis are somewhat shallow and lacking in citation or example, which undermines her arguments and credibility.

    However, the cover photo is very nice, and somewhat mitigates the book's lack of compelling content in that it looks good on your coffee table. All told, a solid two-star effort."

Movies, television, books and even comic books have all of these same elements that are described as what is "bad" about video games. I think the problem is the fact that a lot of people still consider video games to be mostly geared toward children and teenagers. However, they fail to recognize that the average age of a gamer is now 33 years old. It is sad to see people arguing about something they really don't have any knowledge about but what do you expect from Fox News.

    1) Some hack pundit go's on TV or writes a blog implying gamers are illiterate 9-year olds (or in this case, makes up outrageous allegations about a game).

    2) The gaming community gets up in arms; then responds by sending thousands of poorly written emails -- many of them end up reinforcing the stereotypes that the gaming community were so outraged about.

    3) Then a week later, the pundit goes on his/her radio/TV show, then reads some of the more moronic crap that they got sent to them by gamers

    Thus, in an ironic twist, gamers are helping reinforce the stereotype that they are illiterate children, by giving this woman free ammunition.

    • skaldicpoet9, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3I think the thing about it is the fact that obviously gamers are very passionate about their hobby and see it as a personal attack on their character when popular media attacks what we all love. It is easy to act out and make a big fuss but it is hard sometimes to do it in a dignified manner when it seems like we are being deliberately incited. While I can see the irony of bombarding her book with negative reviews, I still find it childish and extremely immature. If gamers want to be taken seriously we should all state our case with clear and concise points that elucidate our argument in finer detail. Hopefully one day we can get the respect that we rightfully deserve.
