Gamers Strike Back Against Cooper Lawrence On Amazon
news.filefront.com — After hearing the offensive and biased attack against Mass Effect on Fox News, I decided to check out some links on Cooper Lawrence, the psychologist who took part in the biased strike on the game. I came across her book on Amazon.com titled ‘The Cult of Perfection: Making Peace with Your Inner Overachiever’.

- HMoleman, on 01/23/2008, -70/+7How about this: If you dont like the game, dont buy it. Pretty simple eh?
- bort901, on 01/23/2008, -1/+58No, it is not that simple. Mass Effect is being portrayed as something that it is not. These invalid criticisms are bad for Mass Effect and the are bad for the video game industry. Just one step closer to government censorship...
- toefer, on 01/23/2008, -19/+4Government censorship would also be FOX news not being allowed to say what they want. Sure, they might have the details wrong (or a lot of things wrong), but they can still share their opinions. Isn't there a saying that any publicity is good publicity? I doubt Mass Effect's sales are hurting because of a little FOX news segment.
- meamog, on 01/23/2008, -2/+17It's called "libel".
An untruthful statement about a person, published in writing or through broadcast media, that injures the person's reputation or standing in the community. Because libel is a tort (a civil wrong), the injured person can bring a lawsuit against the person who made the false statement. Libel is a form of defamation, as is slander (an untruthful statement that is spoken, but not published in writing or broadcast through the media). - bagboyrebel, on 01/23/2008, -1/+16"but they can still share their opinions"
I don't think slander is protected speech. - NeonFire, on 01/31/2008, -0/+2Do you work for FOX News or something?
- meamog, on 01/23/2008, -2/+17It's called "libel".
- norman619, on 01/23/2008, -2/+6Bad press usually translates into higher sales for video games. Look at what it's done for the GTA series. I was gonna skip this game utill all the fuss. Now I may go ahead and get it.
- personfromhell, on 01/24/2008, -2/+2same for me and oblivion and fear and well most of my games when i think about it
- Gir53457, on 01/24/2008, -1/+10The thing is, GTA was about gun toting, hooker killing, pedestrian smashing gore with a redeeming plot that makes it more like watching Reservoir Dogs. Mass Effect IS NOT about rampant full frontal nudity with He-Man ***** Twi-leks to settle his Captain Kirk ego and lust for alien ass. This is puzzling me because console games are tame as an angry house cat when it comes to the pissed off tiger with a loose latch on his cage that is PC games and sexuality.
If I were looking for a game to be offended at for the portrayal women as nothing more than cleavage smuggling whores who drop their panties at beck and whim so they can throw themselves in your path to fulfill themselves as your next sexual conquest would be the Witcher. - RandomGorilla, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4Pray tell me of this magical "Witcher" game you speak of.
- finalfantasyIII, on 02/05/2008, -0/+1Gir, reading that made me so happy for some reason.. I love that post.

- SemiSarcastic, on 01/23/2008, -19/+2Um...aren't we talking about a book here?
- Andrew84, on 01/24/2008, -0/+20How about this: If you want to leave a comment please at least read the article
- projjalc, on 01/24/2008, -0/+34(.) - the point
(X) - you are here- phronko, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4Maybe I've been brainwashed by Mass Effect, because "the point" looks like a boob to me. OMG EVERYTHING THEY SAID IS TRUE!!!
- bort901, on 01/23/2008, -1/+58No, it is not that simple. Mass Effect is being portrayed as something that it is not. These invalid criticisms are bad for Mass Effect and the are bad for the video game industry. Just one step closer to government censorship...
- toefer, on 01/23/2008, -62/+7Stuff like this really helps to convince others that gamers are mature people. If you watch the video, you'd see that Lawrence never specifically mentions Mass Effect, and instead is talking about studies on video games in general.
I think McCullough's blog last week was more outrageous, but the gamers response to that (comments on his blog, and whatever else) was equally as immature as spamming Lawrence's Amazon reviews. Even the guy on the FOX news segment was all antsy to fire back at Lawrence, instead of having a normal discussion. Some people need to grow up.- wild, on 01/23/2008, -1/+32Um actually, they show Mass Effect on the screen and repeat the name many times, even going so far as to blur out alien butt. You must have the wrong video.
- toefer, on 01/23/2008, -8/+1FOX does, not Lawrence.
- scrappyvintage, on 01/23/2008, -3/+10Lawrence: NO I'VE NEVER ACTUALLY PLAYED THE GAME, I'LL TAKE THE EXPERTS OPINION ON IT.
SHE'S SUPPOSED TO BE THE "EXPERT OPINION" MORON!! SO PEOPLE ARE KNOCKING HER BOOK THE SAME WAY SHE KNOCKS THE GAME. . .WITH THEIR OWN "EXPERT OPINIONS".
Way to go guys, keep posting those Awesome "Expert Opinions"!- toefer, on 01/24/2008, -8/+1I think the expert's opinion she was referring to was about sex and the teenage mind, not on how good/bad Mass Effect is.
- scrappyvintage, on 01/24/2008, -0/+7@toefer
Oh my god. . .this wasn't a review of the game, it was a question of weather or not we should allow certain content in video games. And she didn't know ***** about the game she was referring to, therefore we call this individual. . .
BIASED BIASED BIASED. She had to refer to an expert - chrisgnv, on 01/24/2008, -0/+6@toefer:
Her "experts" also say that adolescent boys playing video games cannot differentiate between the games and reality. Do you believe this is true? Because when I was an adolescent I remember being a lot more competent.
- scrappyvintage, on 01/23/2008, -3/+10Lawrence: NO I'VE NEVER ACTUALLY PLAYED THE GAME, I'LL TAKE THE EXPERTS OPINION ON IT.
- Pake, on 01/24/2008, -0/+12The blurring out of the partial crack had me laughing for a while, when you realize just how much more skin is shown during the commercials and by some of the news reporters and their cleavage.
- toefer, on 01/23/2008, -8/+1FOX does, not Lawrence.
- CrazyRedHatter, on 01/23/2008, -0/+13Personally I think this is a creative and effective way of protesting misinformation and bias. Maturity is a pretty vague concept to be throwing around like that.
- roosterjm2k2, on 01/24/2008, -1/+18I dont think it's immature at all.
See, we don't have the power of public image that she does, we cannot achieve to play on her level...but we do have a strong power...masses, and the ability to use the internet.
What she did was blatant lying... she gets what she has coming. Shes Jack Thompson with a Rack (a nice one)- toefer, on 01/24/2008, -6/+1Comparing her to Jack Thompson is ridiculous. Also, if you don't think it's immature to spam Amazon's reviews, then what is wrong with her spreading lies about Mass Effect?
I'm not supporting what she said, because I think she's wrong, but the reactions people are taking are wrong too.
Since when do two wrongs make a right? If anything, if enough people post fake Amazon reviews, that will make the news too, and give gamers more of a bad image.- roosterjm2k2, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5Well, we cant get on fox new, or any news for that matter...we use the tools we have.
- DarknessGP, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4Toefer, two wrongs make a right in math... And considering computer software relies on math, then in the field of computers and computer gaming, two wrongs make a right.
- Karoupa, on 01/24/2008, -0/+0Technically -1 + -1 = -2.
But lets assume your logic is correct using this:
we (noted by :D/) will equate our actions with -1. Her (noted by >=[) actions will also be -1. Now, our actions oppose hers.
>=[ - :D/ = -1 - -1 = 0
Technically this brings us to a neutral state (not a positive one)
By your logic we should be dealing to her 2x what she's dealing to us, giving:
-1 - -2 = 1
Now, does anyone know how we can achieve this?
- hockey, on 01/24/2008, -1/+1It's not immature to respond to inaccuracies. It's immature to do so basically by spamming nothing more than U SUCK LOLOLLOOLL!! FAUX NEWS SUX!!!!!
- toefer, on 01/24/2008, -6/+1Comparing her to Jack Thompson is ridiculous. Also, if you don't think it's immature to spam Amazon's reviews, then what is wrong with her spreading lies about Mass Effect?
- Andrew84, on 01/24/2008, -0/+12If she can review the appropriateness of a video game with playing it then we can most certainly review her book without reading it.
- toefer, on 01/24/2008, -7/+2She didn't review the game. Did you watch the video?
- Varz, on 01/24/2008, -0/+9"review the appropriateness of a video game"
can you read?
- Varz, on 01/24/2008, -0/+9"review the appropriateness of a video game"
- skubiszm, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4She might not have been reviewing the game but she was making pretty serious claims against it and those who play it without actually playing the game itself.
- toefer, on 01/24/2008, -7/+2She didn't review the game. Did you watch the video?
- wild, on 01/23/2008, -1/+32Um actually, they show Mass Effect on the screen and repeat the name many times, even going so far as to blur out alien butt. You must have the wrong video.
- logicalnoise, on 01/23/2008, -1/+116well based on the non deleted reviews, it's not like this book needed any help sucking.
There's 5, 5 star reviews and each one is one line only and reek of PR plants.
one, 4 star review that sounds like a very confused man
and then 47 1-2 star reviews explaining how this idiotic woman just wrote about common sense and slapped 29.99 on the cover.- PRlME, on 01/24/2008, -0/+57One of the funnest comment i found on the Amazon page:
By Don T Meswgamers (Seattle, Wa):
I recently saw this book in a used bookstore holding up one end of a broken table. I read as much as I could before my arm got tired of holding up the above mentioned table. After a few chapters I realized the book was indeed best used for furniture support. Don't waste your time.- BearinG, on 01/28/2008, -0/+2What I found funny was how people that visited her book, 20% ultimately "Also bought 12 months of XBL"... I was hoping to find Mass Effect listed under there but it is listed under "Customers Who Bought Items Like This Also Bought"
- manchld, on 01/24/2008, -0/+17Comment by brent bucci "brent" (CA)
As a man, I feel that Cooper Lawrence objectifies men in this bock, as I have clearly been shown in scientific studies run by the University of Santa Cruz, which show a direct correlation between violent actions and individuals who have read or listen to the trash spouted by this "psychologist". Do not buy or read. (Ps: mass effect is awesome, and when I have sex in the game, I think of you Cooper Lawrence) - atonement, on 01/24/2008, -0/+10"Making Peace with My Inner Overachiever: I wasn't going to review, but the title of the book made me think: I could read it and be upset by her lack of understanding of life (or so it seems, I mean, I don't know anything about the actual book), BUT I decided that I'd just make peace with myself. I happen to be an overachiever, as you can tell by my review of a book I've never even read!"
Review was then tagged with product: Rectal Hygienic Anal Douche - Cleansing System, Easy to Use & Clean - Zindrix, on 01/24/2008, -0/+6Don't forget to review her book on Barnes and Noble as well.
- PRlME, on 01/24/2008, -0/+57One of the funnest comment i found on the Amazon page:
- MadTom, on 01/23/2008, -2/+25I'm sure any kid has seen a movie with much more sexual notations than this. I really wish TV media would stay out of video game coverage and stick to telling lies over more important matters like our Nations Economy (For those in the U.S.)
- cridz7, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5She shouldn't be concerned with the 12 year-old children who are playing not just this game but all M-rated games. The blame should be put on the parents who let their children play M-rated games.
- Karoupa, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3Thats the one thing I found most hilarious about the video-- The people from Fox were talking a lot about how its really hard to watch your kids and make sure they're not playing these games. The blond one even made it sound like a daunting task to look at the back of the game for the rating. It makes me wonder about them more than anything.
- cridz7, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5She shouldn't be concerned with the 12 year-old children who are playing not just this game but all M-rated games. The blame should be put on the parents who let their children play M-rated games.
- totorototoro, on 01/23/2008, -2/+200she came out against a video game for supposedly promoting sex, then uses that cover to promote her book?
- Rsulliv1, on 01/24/2008, -0/+25Now her book is promoting the game:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-images/1 ...- blup3ace, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5slander, lies, and hypocrisy. what a horrible person.
- skubiszm, on 01/24/2008, -0/+6I don't know if I want a book with 200 one star reviews promoting my game.
- cridz7, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5she's also promoting sex
- ukfoole, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5Well, yeah.. and her harshness at first that it is a "MAN" in the game going after women, to be corrected that you can be a woman.
Also, did you notice her two other books are about "Keeping the Jewlery" from a relationship, aka golddigging, and the other is "Fixing up" a man. Wow, how totally offensive to consider men as some sort of sugardaddy that you need to whip and control if it is going to be a "relationship", then she turns around and spouts out drek about this game.
She must really be bitter about some man who offended her. Total Misandry.- ericrous, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4Wouldn't you just LOVE to be the guy who married her? Poor bastard must wake up every morning trying to think of reasons not to put a gun in his mouth.
- Rsulliv1, on 01/24/2008, -0/+25Now her book is promoting the game:
- espempire, on 01/23/2008, -4/+17The truth is that most gamers dont care what anyone says about the game, its about how good the game is. Period. But it is great that gamers are taking it right back to her, not that anyone really was reading her book anyways.
- norman619, on 01/24/2008, -3/+3*****. On the initial release the first reviews and player comments most definitely do have an impact on the sales of any particular game.
- blup3ace, on 01/24/2008, -1/+10it's more like the players don't care if mass effect is a good game or not, they just want to defend their industry from these ignorant "know-it-alls" trying to BS on our hobby.
- skubiszm, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2I wish I could digg you up more than once.
- roosterjm2k2, on 01/24/2008, -0/+6Hell hath no wrath like a gamer scorned.
- Raptor007, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2"Hell hath no fury..." would be more correct, but nice anyway. :¬)
- Goosemaster513, on 01/23/2008, -1/+43She deserves every negative review she gets. Seeing that people "mostly gamers" are very taken back by her "to put nicely," CRAP; that she tried to argue out on Fox News is completely unacceptable. If she is going to try to persuade family's not to buy Mass Effect for reasons she clearly has no idea about, then people should be able to persuade others to not buy her book for reasons that have no relevance.
- futureisours, on 01/23/2008, -3/+11Since when does anyone take tv journalists seriously, other than old people? Why does this matter?

why take a review or any advice from some one who hasn't used the product
I'm going to review Starcraft 2 using only Pictures- norman619, on 01/24/2008, -0/+11I'm gonna review Duke Nukem Forever.

- blindhammer, on 01/23/2008, -2/+98Oh no, a video game depicted something that humans have been doing for thousands upon thousands of years and something nearly every organism on the planet has to do to survive! The horror!
- HiKevinRose, on 01/23/2008, -14/+1Nearly? It's all sexual, even when single-cells split. Not the same graphically, but physically.
- roosterjm2k2, on 01/24/2008, -0/+17actualy, its all sexual...unless its asexual...
- tech42er, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2No, it's not. Sexual reproduction always involves two organisms each combining a copy of half their genetic material to create a new organism with a full genome.
- ZeRux, on 01/24/2008, -4/+2As if each and every video-game on the market having tons of blood and violence isn't enough, now they'll be filled with pornography. Shooting people in video games at least aren't real. She's right - Mass Effect should be rated AO and allowd to sell only in pornography stores.
- blindhammer, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1"Shooting people in video games at least isn't real."
Neither is two people having very softcore sex.
I suppose you don't see the irony in this. It's acceptable to play a game where you take a chainsaw and cut someone's head off (blood included) but it is not acceptable to show an alien girl's ass.
Repressed and backwards.- ZeRux, on 01/24/2008, -1/+1"I suppose you don't see the irony in this. It's acceptable to play a game where you take a chainsaw and cut someone's head off (blood included) but it is not acceptable to show an alien girl's ass."
No, I don't see it. If you play games so you can see a girl's ass, you need to get outside. I prefer real girl's asses, not computer-generated alien assess.- blindhammer, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1I don't think you understand. The sex scene in Mass Effect is part of the storyline. You're basically stating that you can't show anything sexual, even if it's part of the story (ie, two people fall in love and have sex. Or maybe they get drunk and have sex).
People aren't playing Mass Effect to see sex. You can hop on the internet and go to porn sites and watch sex for free, if you want. - BearinG, on 01/28/2008, -0/+1You don't see the irony ? Maybe digg isn't the right place for you.
Or you're just trying to get some attention by saying the opposite of 90% of the comments here...

- supersteve, on 01/23/2008, -0/+64here is what i said on Amazon.
I recently saw Cooper Lawrence doing a segment on Fox News. She basically attacked a product she has never used and all of her arguments were complete lies.
I am not sure how a person like this even gets a chance to write a book. Why would anyone want to trust her option when she acts like a child?
I have never read your book Mrs. Lawrence but I assume it is full of nudity and violence. It should be rated A and only sold at a corner store on the top shelf in a silver bag. Your book is hurting our children.- fatdog789, on 01/24/2008, -30/+5Wow, champ! Way to show her that you're an immature SOB! That'll teach her that she was wrong about how immature gamers are!

- shawnolds, on 01/24/2008, -2/+1Wow, with that logic no one would ever criticize something that they don't approve of or dislike. That will help make things better for all of humanity !? /sarcasm

- brwright, on 01/23/2008, -1/+28Some good comments:
"Don't judge a book by it's cover
but since you like to judge games without playing them, I will take the liberty of ignoring the old saying."
"Doesn't it suck to have people like me give you a one star review when I haven't even read the book? I mean what am I thinking?
But I didn't go onto Fox News and speak poorly of your book for 3 minutes."
"This author sure has a lot to say considering her book is mostly filled with drivel and opinionated nonsense. Don't bother with this overpriced garbage. Instead of writing a book, she should have posted this to her MySpace."- nymphetamine, on 01/24/2008, -1/+13Another good one: "you reviewed a game without playing it. So i am doing the same thing to your book. This book has offensive language, nudity and a horrible sex scene. complete garbage this can be marketed to kids! OMG!"

cooper@cooperlawrenceshow.com- crombenevolant, on 01/24/2008, -0/+25As satisfying as it might be to bombard her email, DONT DO IT. She is a publicity whore and is probably loving this as she is no-name hack that nobody had ever heard of before she was on Fox. Don't propel her career in any way. The best way to punish someone like this is to send letters/emails to Fox telling them how disappointed you are that they had someone on as an expert that had no relevant knowledge on the subject. As for her, the whole world should just ignore her and let her shrivel and die.
- BearinG, on 01/28/2008, -0/+2I could've sworn she said she liked to receive daily newsletters on her e-mail.. Does Bioware have a newsletter?

- scoottie, on 01/24/2008, -2/+9if they are deleting 1 star reviews just make a 2 star review. Amazon should not be deleting any reviews because her public disgrace on FOX has everything to do with her book since they both have the same ideals back the filthy that are her opinions.
- Esprit, on 01/24/2008, -0/+14I like how all the negative reviews are from today or yesterday, all saying how bad the book sucked.
- mommitude, on 01/24/2008, -0/+0I am on a rampage - if "Mass Effect" is a game where you can have graphic sexual contact, then her freakin' website has adult content as well (see her book cover if you don't believe me).

- morningmatters, on 01/24/2008, -1/+26Interesting to watch gamers acting like activists.
- SpikeLee, on 01/24/2008, -4/+2You call this activism?
- ericrous, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2Beats doing absolutely nothing, which is the only option we would have had before the internet.
- RidiculousHat, on 01/24/2008, -1/+2Activism means very little when it is shrouded in anonymity. Tyranny is accomplished when we sacrifice liberty for safety, and activism is accomplished when we sacrifice safety for liberty. All I see are comments made through the safety of the internet from people who will never have to look the offender in the eye.
I don't agree with what this woman said, but this is not activism-- this is encouraging people to believe that gamers are xenophobic, reactionary and sheltered.- skaldicpoet9, on 01/24/2008, -1/+2Sadly, these reactions are only serving to further reinforce the media depiction of gamers.
- ericrous, on 01/24/2008, -1/+1And did Fox News give me the chance to retort in person? Nope. I would *gladly* debate her in person, but no one will give me (or anyone else here) the opportunity. As it is, I have to settle for the only small way to make my voice heard.
- ptanonimo, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1Xenophobic? Why?
- SpikeLee, on 01/24/2008, -4/+2You call this activism?
- cforce05, on 01/24/2008, -9/+3and i quote, "Cooper Lawrence offers an Intelligent, entertaining, respectful radio show for women to make them think." really....
this bitch almost made me purchase something on amazon and wait 24 hours just so i could give her ***** book a 1 star review. Thank god for the masses of amazon consumers/diggers that did justice for me. I dont know how the guy in the interview didnt lose it and go off on her. i guess thats why im not doing public interviews. the fact that she blatantly misrepresented mass effect in so many ways angers me and that the anchor gave this dumb broad more time to talk and make her ***** point than my main man from spike tv. its people like her that need to be locked up before they spread their retardation to the masses. who knows how many parents were misled by that segment and now think mass effect is synonymous with playboy. but honestly lets face it, getting to sneak a peek at some side boob is part of every developing youngsters life. kids are going to learn about sex eventually, and chances are if they can get through an intelligently designed game like mass effect and even get to the alleged sex scene, chances are they have seen some side boob if not a nip slip or two in their lives. and if your tv is connected to a cable wire, your kids have just as big of a chance to stumble onto FX when niptuck is on. great show fyi. and thats pretty much softcore porn. Im glad that a big dog from EA stepped in and sent fox news an email regarding the slanderous misrepresentation of the game.
i dont know about you lads but i allready started to spam her crappy radio show, i advise you do the same.
as a matter of fact it just started 8 mins ago. GOGOGO- Raptor007, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5DO NOT buy her book to give it a 1 star review!! That defeats the whole point!
- cforce05, on 01/24/2008, -1/+1haha dont worry i would never let this broad get a cent out of me.

(and do you seriously all have Amazon accounts?)- KeepOffMyLawn, on 01/24/2008, -1/+11...and here's the link to her radio show (Monday-Friday, 7-10 est - meaning it's on right now):

1-877-6-COOPER - nvisible, on 01/24/2008, -0/+6I am sorry I listened to that... my I.Q. just dropped a few points.
and I had so few to begin with. - skaldicpoet9, on 01/24/2008, -0/+11Man, I actually called and got put on the air, my cover was Punk Rock 101 but I just couldn't make an ass out of myself and gamers everywhere so I just spouted off some stuff about Punk and then they hung up on me. As much as I wanted to just lay into her, it would have just added credence to all of these people's arguments and I think that would give gamers an even worse rep. Oh well.
- atonement, on 01/24/2008, -1/+4Chin up; the internet will make things better. Someone will hack into her personal accounts shortly, I'm sure of it.
- skaldicpoet9, on 01/24/2008, -1/+1I don't think that that is necessary and would just give us an even worse rep then the media has already garnered us with. In order to be heard we need to stop dropping down to what I would now like to call "Fox News Pseudo-Analyst" level and start actually coming up with logical, rationalized, structured debate in order to combat what is undeniably an attack on us as gamers and the art form itself.
- BearinG, on 01/28/2008, -0/+1What would she do.. say that Mass effect teaches kids how to hack her personal information? Funny thing is, there is "hacking/decryption" in Mass Effect..

- Waldoze, on 01/24/2008, -0/+38this is the best review so far:
"Cooper Lawrence definitely does some things right in this book. Take the image on the cover. This image is very flattering and shows how attractive Ms. Lawrence is. She has a nice figure, and is posed in a way that is casual and fun, with one hand playfully tucked in a pocket. Ms. Lawrence comes off as very appealing and sexy in this photo.
There are other things that aren't so good about this book. Ms. Lawrence's ideas and analysis are somewhat shallow and lacking in citation or example, which undermines her arguments and credibility.
However, the cover photo is very nice, and somewhat mitigates the book's lack of compelling content in that it looks good on your coffee table. All told, a solid two-star effort." - schlottj, on 01/24/2008, -0/+12wow talk about being a hypocrite,
this woman blasts video games for showing some side boob(requires an ID of an 17year old to purchase
but then markets a sexual explicit photo book(can be purchased by any child without ID - blanktarget, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5The comments left up there are great, best laugh I had today.
- TeamOverload, on 01/24/2008, -2/+22Now amazons deleting reviews? What if ppl are offereing legit reviews, they are just gonna delete them? That's bs.
- OaklandNative, on 01/24/2008, -0/+7Looks that way. There were over 400 reviews an hour ago. Now it says "No customer reviews yet. Be the first." What a shame.
- NeonFire, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1I wonder who's side Amazon is taking. I've canceled my three pending orders in disgust. If I actually read the book and want to share my opinions (I haven't but just saying), why shouldn't I be allowed to make a negative review?
- schlottj, on 01/24/2008, -0/+12http://www.myspace.com/thecooperlawrenceshow have fun

http://digg.com/xbox/Keighley_takes_on_Fox_News_se ... - KevinRWright, on 01/24/2008, -0/+19I just spent about 20 minutes refreshing amazon to read reviews as they come in. Hilarious stuff. I can just imagine her agent or publicists tomorrow morning as she breaks the news;
"Hey Coop... boy was your book getting some heavy traffic on amazon last night"
"Well, it's the cover. I look hot on it. Plus that spot on fox news probably got me a bunch of buys, everyone loves that station."
"Yeah, about that..."- MacHarborGuy, on 01/24/2008, -0/+7when I saw the cover of her book and then heard her say that stuff about objectifying women, I thought "Wait, you are making yourself look like a piece of meat on your cover, and that ISN'T bad?!?!?!" I hate TV News "Experts", all they seem to be are experts in BS to get their 15 minutes of fame.
- whatthefu, on 01/24/2008, -0/+13Why should she get to talk about a game on national TV if she's never even played it? I'd understand if she would have played the game and all that, but it's unacceptable that she is on TV and actually SCOFFING at the guy when he asks her if she's played it.
- rascilon, on 01/24/2008, -0/+8Perhaps Lawrence should have consulted PBS first.
http://www.pbs.org/kcts/videogamerevolution/impact ... - gullevek, on 01/24/2008, -4/+4I have played Mass Effect for 13h now (with a lot of the side missions) and I have not yet seen any sex or whatsoever. So seriously ... some people have a real problem with this topic. Probably they are just pissed of, cause they don't have any sex, so they want to make it bad for the others too.
- mlerner, on 01/24/2008, -2/+8I bet she hasn't gotten any lately.
- skaldicpoet9, on 01/24/2008, -0/+12I find it hilarious that whenever these sorts of debates are brought up all other forms of entertainment are not even mentioned. Movies, television, books and even comic books have all of these same elements that are described as what is "bad" about video games. I think the problem is the fact that a lot of people still consider video games to be mostly geared toward children and teenagers. However, they fail to recognize that the average age of a gamer is now 33 years old. It is sad to see people arguing about something they really don't have any knowledge about but what do you expect from Fox News.
- toefer, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2I agree. The problem is that I think the media still associates video games with child's play, so thats why a bigger deal is made out of the content of a game vs a movie.
- whodoes, on 01/24/2008, -2/+6dont forget that registered user can also vote on the reviews themselves... "was this review helpful YES/NO" ?

- cbegin, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2NEVER MIND. Digg me down, I'm stoopid. I didn't even know Amazon allowed "customer images"!!! But frigging hilarious none the less. Sorry.
- funnydale, on 01/24/2008, -1/+21And much like the Resident Evil flap...gamers keep on taking the bait...
1) Some hack pundit go's on TV or writes a blog implying gamers are illiterate 9-year olds (or in this case, makes up outrageous allegations about a game).
2) The gaming community gets up in arms; then responds by sending thousands of poorly written emails -- many of them end up reinforcing the stereotypes that the gaming community were so outraged about.
3) Then a week later, the pundit goes on his/her radio/TV show, then reads some of the more moronic crap that they got sent to them by gamers
Thus, in an ironic twist, gamers are helping reinforce the stereotype that they are illiterate children, by giving this woman free ammunition.- Varz, on 01/24/2008, -0/+8Yes gamers should covertly give her bad reviews, like pretend to have read the book and give her a bad review instead of writing something about Mass Effect and her incompetence as a psychologist.
- toefer, on 01/24/2008, -0/+6Finally, a sensible comment. +1
- skaldicpoet9, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3I think the thing about it is the fact that obviously gamers are very passionate about their hobby and see it as a personal attack on their character when popular media attacks what we all love. It is easy to act out and make a big fuss but it is hard sometimes to do it in a dignified manner when it seems like we are being deliberately incited. While I can see the irony of bombarding her book with negative reviews, I still find it childish and extremely immature. If gamers want to be taken seriously we should all state our case with clear and concise points that elucidate our argument in finer detail. Hopefully one day we can get the respect that we rightfully deserve.

- SoxSweepAgain, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4The negative one-star reviews seem to be showing up on Amazon now; over 120. Nice to see this; it fights fire with fire.
