  • over900000, on 05/02/2008, -76/+11I feel like the GTA isn’t pushing the Playstation 3 hardware enough in many aspects, which is no doubt the result of the inferior Xbox 360 holding back the system. Because Rockstar developed the title with the Xbox 360 in mind, they had to make sure not to be overly ambitious with their project, and this clearly shows as the game isn’t anywhere near the best looking title on the PS3 (though, it certainly is on the Xbox 360). One particular aspect of the game that i enjoyed is the image quality: anti-aliasing is present with the added bonus of advanced Depth of Field effects. Indeed, SDF unanimously agrees that the Playstation 3 version has a subtle, soft warmth to it that is preferred over the vastly inferior Xbox 360 version.

    Worse is the fact that the title doesn’t boast of 7.1 lossless uncompressed audio that Playstation 3 fans are accustom to. Again, this is unheard of on Xbox 360 games, and it is my belief that Rockstar made compromises in order to fit the game on the vastly inferior Xbox 360 DVD release.

    Multiplayer is an absolute blast. The Playstation Network offers dedicated gamespy servers at no additional cost to the PS3 consumer. I had no problem setting up a game in Liberty City’s humongous world with up to 16 people with no lag or downtime whatsoever. It’s simply amazing that I can experience such a superior service with no additional cost. The free multiplayer in Grand Theft Auto 4 (PS3) is so good that I wish I could give Sony some money for their amazing efforts.

          I'm going to pick this game up for PC when it comes out too, now that I think about it. I like having it on 360, but GTA has always been a PC thing for me - plus I can't help but want to see how awesome the game looks and runs on my rig!

    • Epik, on 05/02/2008, -9/+10I've owned all three consoles and sold them, disappointed, but the release of GTA IV along with Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and Blu Ray as the winning format makes it so PS3 is worth keeping around for me. $300 for a factory sealed 40GB PS3 off craigslist. It's got everything I need and even runs quieter, cooler, and uses less power than the others.

      The 360 has more games but I'm not the type of person who needs or has the time for a lot of games. I just need the best ones. Which is why I maintain that the PC is the best multiplayer experience. CoD4 and TF2, awesome.

      The PS3 is an upconverting DVD player, Blu Ray player, and let's me play GTA IV and GT online for free. The sleek black also fits in nicely with the rest of my home theater setup. Being able to order the ceramic white Dualshock 3 controller is just icing on the cake. I probably could have waited for the actual GT5 to be released next year, but I was seduced by the Logitech G25 wheel/pedals and the Playseats Evolution racing seat. 1080p Gran Turismo on a 47" LCD, leather-wrapped 900-degree steering wheel w/ force feedback, metal pedals with clutch and H-style shifter, all on a sturdy metal frame with a comfy bucket seat, and uncompressed PCM HDMI surround sound audio? Just couldn't resist.

      PS3 and be happy is right. Even if there weren't any RROD issues with the 360, what does it have to offer? "Greater selection of mediocre over-priced console games, great online experience with XBL(not as good as PC) that you get to pay for, and it's cheaper." It's cheaper for a reason. The 360 doesn't offer the media capabilities of the PS3, the built-in wireless, built-in Blu Ray player, built-in DVD upconversion, or the perfect Dualshock wireless controllers that charge through the usb connection. 40GB PS3 is still hundreds cheaper than the Elite 360 that doesn't offer any of this.

Standard laptop hard drives area big plus, and being able to play DivX natively has it's benefits too. XBL may be a superior service too, but it costs money vs. Sony's free service and all the content is DRM infested crap that you still have to pay for (minus the occasional freebie).

You may also need to remove protection stickers on the side or top of the game case. Next, open the game case. On the right side you will see the game disc. On the left side will be a book labeled "Liberty City Guidebook." Remove the book, and under it should lie a folded document. Remove it from the case, unfold it, and you should see a large map (you may need to turn it over if you unfolded it backwards). Congratulations! You are now looking at the map displayed in this Digg article without having to go to IGN's page!

I am using the optical out, GTA will only play through the front left/right speakers. I have searched the net, and see others having the same issue. Everyone seems to point to a settings problem but i think they are wrong, i think its a game problem. If all other movies/games play with no issue, wouldn't it be safe to say the trouble is with the game?
