- WhereAmI, on 01/25/2008, -25/+72It is also on PSN.
- doitintheroad, on 01/25/2008, -2/+29Just FYI it's Gold members only (for now, I guess..), and a 615 MB download.
- NSoklofske, on 01/25/2008, -3/+26This party's just gettin' started.
- beangawlowski, on 01/25/2008, -1/+22Gold members pay for xbox live. Sometimes demos and such are only for gold members for the first week, then anyone can download it.
- BlackKnight6, on 01/25/2008, -2/+18It has already been fixed.
- AvidPreatorian, on 01/25/2008, -24/+39for ALL PlayStationNetwork owners today. wtf is a gold member?
- LimeParrot, on 01/25/2008, -0/+14I haven't played the previous DMC's but one thing that blew me away in this demo is the awesome creature design... the monsters you gotta fight look very cool! e.g. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y101/Carbonox_rat ... ; you get to fight this boss in the demo... just very cool!
- robotplague, on 01/25/2008, -2/+15Anyone else really, really impressed with the anti-aliasing?
- solidus636, on 01/25/2008, -11/+21What I'm wondering, is why didn't the poster just say that the demo is out, instead of focusing only on the 360 version...
PS3 owners love Dante too... - volacide, on 01/25/2008, -0/+10The combat has been revamped quite significantly with Nero. On the surface, DMC seems like a mindless slash and shoot 'em up game. But the combat system in every Devil May Cry has always been significantly deeper than most believe, or can see on the surface.
On the surface, DMC is very friendly to the beginner, you can mash buttons and beat the game on the easier settings with a lot of success. However once you get to the higher difficulties you have to use advanced techniques in order to win and if you use these advanced techniques in the easier settings you can just completely rip through the games.
The combo system in DMC has always been about rhythm and timing of one button, your sword attack button. You never use your guns unless you have to. Here's how I think it's most easily described. Devil May Cry is just like a tony hawk game, the goal is to score big and in doing so, do a lot of damage. You get way more red orbs to upgrade and buy stuff if you perform crazy moves and mix it up when killing enemies. Your guns are your grinds and you use them to link together big heavy hitting combos with your sword, which are your big tricks. You only use your guns to keep the combo meter from trickling out when you have to traverse across a room. Your guns don't do enough damage otherwise. It's all about the swordplay.
Having experimented heavily with Nero's default move list he's got some pretty sick combos if aside from the basic one. If you press sword, sword, pause, sword, sword, sword he unleashes a devastating combo.
Now here's something most people also overlook, the new Rev part of his sword, by pressing R2 (or RT if on 360) you rev up your sword. The goal is to rev up your sword to light up one of the three red lights on your hud. Once one is light up you can do a normal attack but with more damage. Now here's the deal. If stationary you can sit there and it takes about 3 revs to get one light lit up BUT IF YOU'RE ATTACKING you can time the Rev button during attacks for an instant light illumination! That means during attacks you can string together these Rev attacks and have a full combo of Rev attacks non stop! It's ridiculously awesome once you get it down. Usually you time pressing the Rev button with the moment the sword would make contact with the enemy, this causes a light to come on. I've been able to do full "streaker" rev attacks (stinger basically for DMC fans) then to an upward lift Rev attack and then a downward slash attack and then back into a streaker rev attack.
It's badass. DMC has always been more than meets the eye. - snareguy17, on 01/25/2008, -0/+9The game ran SO incredibly smooth, I was astounded. The 2nd portion of the demo with the boss level looks jaw dropping what with the fiery visuals and the constant 60 FPS. Devil Bringer is a great addition to the gameplay, and I'm glad to see that the great music is still in effect for battles.
- charlescheese, on 01/25/2008, -3/+12Ahh actually it's only out for gold members right now.
- jo21, on 01/25/2008, -12/+20i don't know, you don't need anything on psn just download for free.
- Lososaurus, on 01/25/2008, -2/+9When you fight Berial, when you knock his fire off, target him then grab him, untarget and then grab, you'll knock him down 9 or 10 notches. Game looks great visually and overall.
- Nickbc87, on 01/25/2008, -2/+9I played the 360 demo today. The graphics are good, I expect them to be improved by release. The frame rate was steady throughout the demo, and the controls were tight. Honestly my only complaint was that it still seemed like more of the same, as the series really hasn't make any evolutionary changes since the original DMC. The formula feels dated. I understand the formula that Capcom uses has served them well, but theres something to be said for evolving game play and taking reasonable risks.
- NeoTEKK, on 01/25/2008, -6/+13But it's true...
- estvir, on 01/25/2008, -4/+11Because it's linking to Major Nelson's site. You know what that means? It's probably not going to cover the Playstation Network.
Seriously, how is this not blindingly obvious? - Sabin, on 01/25/2008, -1/+8Linear PCM is a type of audio encoding, not an audio signal. Also it is nothing new in video games and has been used since the PS1. The vast majority of in-game audio assets are handled in PCM as opposed to a compressed format on ALL systems with only the the music being compressed in most cases. DSs also use uncompress PCM for audio and they came out in 1982 (likely before you were born) so please stop bragging about it like its something new. People like you make me embarrassed to own a PS3. BTW, the detail textures and the draw distance are better on the 360 most likely due to better memory allocation.
- Acqua206, on 01/25/2008, -2/+9Everything about this game reminds me of Ninja Gaiden. The camera, the vibrant, over the top colors, and fighting. Pretty sweet game, I wish they didn't have a time limit on the game so I could have explored it at a slower pace. They should have just capped the demo at a mini boss.
- atomheart, on 01/25/2008, -3/+10Yes, like he said. Just go to Japan, get a DualShock. Real easy. /s
- BulletsforRingo, on 01/25/2008, -2/+9The dialogue in the several (yes, that is several) cut scenes in this demo is just unbearable. It's so chocked full of corn I could swear Capcom is based out of Nebraska.
- Del129, on 01/25/2008, -0/+6The demo is fun but I didn't see the point of the time limit.
- jacksons98, on 01/25/2008, -3/+9@knailbomb420 You are wrong, the majority of X360 members don't get demos on release day like gold members. They have to wait a week. It's Microsofts way of twisting your arm for $50 more a year.
- charlescheese, on 01/25/2008, -2/+8Look again, I played it last night and it was great.
- Egress99, on 01/25/2008, -1/+6If you read my mini analysis, i brought up rumble only once.
Until best buy/tru/circuit city etc etc carries the rumble dualshock, it is not available in the states. (the average middleschooler does not have access to purchasing via play-asia.com or any other importers)
I also made sure to point out that the difference are mild at best between the two, besides the rumble.
Unlike you, who MUST own stock in Sony, for this could be the only explanation for your knee jerk reaction to a pretty unbiased assessment on my part.
Sony or Microsoft gives two ***** about you, stop propoting the superiority of one system over the other. - BabyWookie, on 01/25/2008, -2/+7What's PSN?
- z93e, on 01/25/2008, -2/+7how did this just now get to the front page 24 hours too late
- adventchild08, on 01/25/2008, -3/+8I take it this is your first devil may cry experience?
- strictnein, on 01/25/2008, -4/+9When 99% of the users out there don't have an f'en Dualshock3, then yes, you can.
I mean, you had to import a controller, most likely at a premium price, to get that feature. - strictnein, on 01/25/2008, -0/+5There's only one street in Toronto?
- ninjakoala, on 01/25/2008, -1/+6How the heck would you squeeze audio through video cables in the first place?
- Egress99, on 01/25/2008, -3/+8I DL'd both, I find the 360 mildly superior. Rumble and if you notice, the detailed draw distance and close up is marginally better.
You can notice this moreso when you enter the first door, if you look at the floor when the camera is facing downward, you can see there is a little more detail and "exactness" (for lack of a better term)
Either way, you can't go wrong, the series has been saved. - DavidGX, on 01/25/2008, -0/+4Actually, it's because PSN is a piece of ***** with ***** maintenance. You pay nothing, you get very little. And yes, I do know someone who works for sony and this has been confirmed for me and no, I don't care if you don't believe that.
- Lasereth, on 01/25/2008, -0/+4I grew up in the NES days. The reason NES games were hard is because you're simply not as good at videogames when you were younger. They're easier now (even though still hard). DMC3 and Ninja Gaiden ARE hard as hell.
The other major difference is older NES games have no save feature which makes games simply frustrating, not "hard." - Evolutuon, on 01/25/2008, -7/+11Subscribed Xbox live...
- schoate09, on 01/25/2008, -12/+16Ah, got it on PSN last night, didn't pay a dime.
- superkendall, on 01/25/2008, -12/+15For non-Gold members? I didn't have to pay anything on PSN...
- DavidGX, on 01/27/2008, -0/+3What the hell do you mean? XBL is mostly back to normal now. Why? Because of the maintenance that they can afford because of the fee. Xbox Live gained 50% of it's userbase in the span of about one month, that's HUGE. NO large network on the ***** planet would go through that flawlessly. The PSNs dedicated servers sound great but not when they get zero money for maintenance.
And anyone who complains about the XBL fee is a ***** retard. I bought a 12 + 1 (that's 13 for the slow folks out there) month card for $50. That's about $3.84 a month for unlimited gameplay for ALL my (non-mmo) games. Dead or Alive 4 online ALONE provides me more than enough amusement to justify that cost. If you can't afford that then you shouldn't be gaming in the first place. - MasterGrief, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3It was mine, and I agree with K4Lic. It looks fantastic, but it also looks extremely linear and button-mashey. I've seen DMC before, back on the PS2--I was over someone's shoulder as they played it--and it didn't seem good then, either. Oh well.
To each, his own. - WhereAmI, on 01/25/2008, -2/+5And thats alot of stuff for free.
- joegibes, on 01/26/2008, -0/+3I really regret giving my real bday to XBL... I turn 18 in a few months, but until then, I can't download M-rated or even RATING FREAKING PENDING -rated stuff.
- richashby, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3Yep. Rock solid frame rate too. Only played the 360 version so far, so might try the PS3 download too. Having said that the differences are meant to be very small.
- AZRoboto, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2Too bad Microsoft's cursed "Child Protection" policies are preventing my 18 year-old account from promoting to adult, thus allowing me to not be able to download this (or any other) M or RP Rated demo.
I really don't understand it. I called Microsoft and they have no idea what they are doing. It is completely ridiculous. - NeoTEKK, on 01/25/2008, -1/+3I believed you just answered your own question numnuts.
- Dwebtron, on 01/25/2008, -1/+3you really should invest in the earlier ones, they're quite worth it
- Planets, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2Any news on a PC demo?
- jptolife, on 01/25/2008, -1/+3***** awesome!
Just played this game. Can't wait to buy it! - cardyology, on 01/26/2008, -0/+2Kill-joy...
- JayD16, on 01/25/2008, -1/+3Thats the point though.
- JayD16, on 01/25/2008, -2/+4You mean the exact same demo?
