- bonecones, on 03/08/2008, -1/+406I don't own a xbox, but Bungie has just earned all my respect. This was extremely classy and makes me feel really positive towards Bungie as a whole. Kudos to you Bungie!
Also, I loved the "do not erase" on the soundtrack. - stargatesteve, on 03/08/2008, -2/+314It's great that bungie was so awesome about this.
- valimar77, on 03/08/2008, -1/+267Gaming companies could learn from Bungie. Outstanding
- vovka3, on 03/08/2008, -4/+253That is one lucky bastard!
This story really made my day!!
Way to go Bungie! - Falldog, on 03/08/2008, -0/+196" I did not release this story for the purpose of exacting revenge on Microsoft. I have no intention of taking legal action–and I am quite alarmed at the number of people that have suggested I do so. I am not demanding that heads roll for this, and I never requested any sort of compensation. My goals for this story were simple: I wished to get the word out to the gaming community about situations like these and to make Microsoft aware of potential and/or actual issues with their service process(es). At this time, I feel that significant progress has been made to both ends, and I continue to await more information from Microsoft staff. It is my ultimate goal and sincere hope that we can find a way to prevent something like this from ever occurring again."
This man deserves props as well. - NinjaPirateDude, on 03/08/2008, -1/+146Bungie rights wrongs, wants people to be happy. That is what's most awesome.
- Ockniel, on 03/08/2008, -4/+117Bungie is my new favorite company, its hard to find any corporate level businesses that'll do something like that.
- evozero, on 03/08/2008, -5/+94halo 3 hackeysack?
that's a pretty nice gesture, though. - Canadianbacon1, on 03/08/2008, -2/+84Bungie FTW!!
- inactive, on 03/08/2008, -12/+94ms wouldn't do this for anyone, good work bungie
- Doomsan, on 03/08/2008, -4/+76If every game developer was like this the gaming world would be a better place. I doubt that EA would've made something like this.
- Swany, on 03/08/2008, -4/+74No Recon Armor?!
- Llanowar, on 03/08/2008, -2/+63EA would send a mixtape with laughter from all of their employees.
- theaceoffire, on 03/08/2008, -2/+54^_^ The best part is that its not on the console, so no future Red-Ring will get it stolen or damaged!
- KyleMistry, on 03/08/2008, -1/+48They'd send their old 2006 one that's just renamed "Laughing At Your Misery 2008."
- DaDrake, on 03/08/2008, -3/+46Congrats Bungie. You have a PR department with the best viral marketing ability in the entire tech industry.
My Merc. Benz dealership sends me Christmas cards.... because they care =p - CSharpSauce, on 03/08/2008, -0/+37dugg for the "I'm Paul Russel" signature
- Rikushix, on 03/08/2008, -0/+36Wow. That's all I have to say about that. Props to Bungie, that goes above and beyond "customer service".
- xxA7XxaDdiCtxx, on 03/08/2008, -2/+36The stuff he got is way better than some in-game armor
- LuCiFer6, on 03/08/2008, -0/+34Also, I loved the "do not erase" on the soundtrack.
Yeah i thought that was funny too. Good job Bungie.. - cwshea, on 03/08/2008, -1/+33I thought that was a haiku.
- smacksaw, on 03/08/2008, -1/+33That is pretty cool. It doesn't surprise me. I can't recall which of the two founders it was, but one of their fathers was my student back in Dallas. When I mentioned I was a fan of Marathon and I had a lot of friends back in Seattle that liked it, the next time dad was in one of my classes he came bearing all sorts of sweet promotional materials (which I gave to my friends).
I don't think this story is a surprise, because from day #1 they've been a class act. I'm just some friend-of-a-friend schmo and they kicked down the schwag. And it worked. This is 12 years later and I still remember and praise them. Working in the computer industry I got a lot of free crap I forgot about, the but the fact a team of basically two guys, toiling in obscurity making a game for a non-gaming platform (the Mac) took some time to hook me up because I told one of their dads that I admired their work...good people. - CurtisL, on 03/08/2008, -1/+32You just had to play the fanboy card eh?
- chaoswings, on 03/08/2008, -0/+28Now THAT is how you build customer relations. Not only that but it was dirt cheap advertising for them....this story is all over the Internet now.
- 1gunners4, on 03/08/2008, -1/+28Bungie reminds me of a pre-WoW Blizzard.
I miss pre-WoW Blizzard. :( - FucangLong, on 03/08/2008, -2/+29Engadget is sending him a new 360 with some games.
- paintpro, on 03/08/2008, -6/+29Microsoft probably has ten levels of bureaucracy to go through before sending him anything. Give it time.
And chill out with the stern warning on making up a story to score free swag. - inactive, on 03/08/2008, -1/+22You get those Merc Benz dealership cards too?! I send them thank you notes... maybe next year they'll send me a car.
- mllawso, on 03/08/2008, -1/+22"huge decline of players on halo cant lie"
Yeah, I know. Halo must be an awful game since only a couple hundred thousand people are online at a time anymore. - ghall, on 03/08/2008, -3/+24I love Bungie. It's a shame they don't develop for the Mac anymore.
- BTConan, on 03/08/2008, -0/+20Thems fightin' words 'round these parts.
- bweltondav, on 03/08/2008, -0/+19I hadn't considered that, but yeah, now that I think about it that's probably exactly why they put it on that helmet.
- inactive, on 03/08/2008, -4/+23i know its just gamer stuff and all.. and mabye i'm too much of a girl sometimes.. but this made me cry. Bungie you are incredible! and Nathaniel.. i am soo happy for you :-)
- mattcoady, on 03/08/2008, -2/+21"There’s no way to replace what you had exactly, but we’re going to try to get you something similar, if not even more awesome.”
Viva Pinata art drawn by Steve Balmer. - toast4321, on 03/08/2008, -1/+18gotta love the positive power of the internet
- xIrish, on 03/08/2008, -0/+16Nevermind, I'm an idiot.
- rhbama13, on 03/08/2008, -1/+16that is everything that is right with a company, this and a double exp weekend. Bungie RULES!
- paintpro, on 03/08/2008, -3/+18Plays video games --> Digs herb --> Wants a hackeysack!
Duh - inactive, on 03/08/2008, -3/+17Tru7h. Carnage. Bungie.
- MoofTheStoof, on 03/08/2008, -2/+16I've been buying their games since 1994 and they've always been supportive and loyal to their fans. This is the fantastic company that brought us Marathon - possibly the best FPS, ever, and the direct ancestor to Halo. Even back in the day they were involved with their community of fans and were highly interactive with them. I'm looking forward to their upcoming projects now that they're no longer tied to Microsoft. Here's to hoping I'll be playing the next Marathon on my iPhone...
- blorguehad, on 03/08/2008, -2/+16Bungie was so cool about it. I am majorly surprised. You couldn't collect that much swag if you held up Target.
- TalaBAM, on 03/08/2008, -1/+14RTFA
- IareKEVLAR, on 03/08/2008, -5/+17I just got tears in my eyes.
- blorguehad, on 03/08/2008, -1/+12you know hes a badass when he signs like that instead of squiggly line names.
- rhbama13, on 03/08/2008, -8/+19Yeah PS3 owners (and I am one) never have this problem because they don't have any games worth playing, so the councel never gets turned on and therefore never breaks.
PS I love my xbox and can't wait for mgs4 - kel86, on 03/08/2008, -1/+12wow, it's amazing that i actually got touched by this.. Bungie team, i salute you..
i don't own a 360 tho.. ***searches for PC version of halo 1** - Hoogs, on 03/08/2008, -0/+11Wow, this story has warmed my heart. It really has.
I can only imagine the look on the kid's face when he saw all that stuff :) - JoeDiggsIt, on 03/08/2008, -1/+12Best feel good story in a long time.
- mvk25, on 03/08/2008, -3/+14EA = Evil *****
- Fokma, on 03/08/2008, -0/+10Unforunately people probably will attempt to do the exact same thing now after seeing what Bungie did for him.
