- TheKorn2, on 05/02/2008, -13/+352BREAKING: you're a ***** for using the word breaking on a story that's not likely to change in the next few hours. This isn't a school shooting or a pelican stuck in a tree!
- petecampbell, on 05/02/2008, -15/+263Sounds like a whole bag of ***** to me.
- steviebaby, on 05/02/2008, -15/+172http://www.coldplay.com/
- mattyice11, on 05/02/2008, -16/+152They'll have to fix the loudness of the console if this is true. It doesn't bother me at all for games, but movies are a different story.
- Ender008, on 05/02/2008, -4/+85Dugg for "pelican stuck in a tree."
- HydrogenOxide, on 05/02/2008, -13/+87Buried as inaccurate. No confirmation from Microsoft, rumor has already been debunked.
Besides, it's not like there will be games for it, only movies. - betterth, on 05/02/2008, -6/+47What exactly does a whole bag of ***** sound like?
More importantly - how, precisely, do you know what it sounds like?? - Varz, on 05/02/2008, -3/+41I seriously doubt they'll release games that require Blu-Ray. No games company would ever want to do that as they would be alienating themselves with a massive install base who don't want to buy another machine. Also, everyone who had a non Blu-Ray machine would be massively pissed off and hate MS for it.
- inactive, on 05/02/2008, -3/+40you sir, just won the game
- vestige, on 05/02/2008, -3/+40For those of you who are bitching because you just bought a 360 or already own one. They would likely release a Blu-ray drive as an add-on drive like they did with HD-DVD, so calm down.
- Varz, on 05/02/2008, -9/+40The loudness is due to the DVD drive, if they're replacing it with a Blu-Ray drive than it may be quieter. Also, newer BenQ DVD drives are a lot quieter.
- surKaz, on 05/02/2008, -6/+34Although I mildly like them.... I do have to give it up for your response.
- SEGA4life, on 05/02/2008, -7/+31hmmm... interesting if true.
- KaiUno, on 05/02/2008, -2/+26But... but... the picture has an arrow! Ow and... (from the article) "has won the order from Microsoft to assemble the Xbox 360 with Blu-ray Disc ROM drive". That does not sound very external to me.
- betterth, on 05/02/2008, -8/+31I can see a massive difference. The difference between Die Hard 4 on DVD and BluRay was night and day to me. Then again, I can tell you what color depth you're using on a monitor and the resolution in a few seconds, and I'm a graphic artist for a living, so maybe I'm a little sensitive to the differences.
- ProfessorSYM, on 05/02/2008, -7/+29He probably has most of the games he wants on his 360 already, if he is looking to buy the PS3 for the BluRay only.
- tizzleG, on 05/02/2008, -2/+23SRSLY. I thought about my 360 breaking and it pissed me off.
- WrldsWrstDigger, on 05/02/2008, -1/+17thekorn2 must be from miami because the pelican in the tree was a local news story here this morning.
- blackbeardtron, on 05/02/2008, -11/+27Reading comprehension is your friend. The company is making Blu-Ray DRIVES for the Xbox 360, much like the HD-DVD drives that were out for the console before. As in, external, add-on, completely optional DRIVES. In fact, it's even pictured.
The title the user gave to this article is misleading, however. - LogicBomB, on 05/02/2008, -1/+16Microsoft already said that they would not do this. They can change their mind, sure, but the OFFICIAL stances right now is no, they wont. Everything else is a rumor. You should really put RUMOR: title instead of the retarded BREAKING: title.
- enronias, on 05/02/2008, -3/+17I'm getting really sick of all these "ZOMG BREAKING" digg titles.
- tcpip4lyfe, on 05/02/2008, -3/+17Damnit I like coldplay but I still have to digg you up.
- betterth, on 05/02/2008, -5/+19Rumors are debunked and false until their true.
Remember how many times Apple / Jobs 'debunked' the 'ridiculous' notion that they were making a cell phone? - foetus, on 05/02/2008, -4/+18I seriously doubt that Microsoft would create a new SKU of the 360 with Blu-Ray rather than making a device like the HD-DVD player. My guess is that if they do anything at *ALL*, it will be an external USB Blu-Ray player.
- thecosmicpope, on 05/02/2008, -13/+26Just a couple of pages back on Digg there was an article about how Blu-Ray sales have dropped dramaticly because the quality difference wasn't noticeable to the masses. If that article is true, then I wonder what this is really going to achieve.
- babylonian, on 05/02/2008, -1/+12Hahaha, I'm not sure Microsoft wants people using "BREAKING" in headlines about the 360 no matter the context.
- lispy, on 05/02/2008, -5/+16Anything with the words "breaking" and "xbox360" makes me frown.
- blackbeardtron, on 05/02/2008, -3/+14You have a point there. Sorry about that. This whole thing is kind of ambiguous.
I really hope it's external, though. If I have to buy another Xbox 360, I'm just gonna get a PS3 instead, so I'll have them both. - ibeetle, on 05/02/2008, -0/+11The XBox 360 is capable of playing back DVD media. Guess who owns some of the patents and copyrights on DVD's?... Sony.
These companies are so big and own so many patents and copyrights that they may not be in bed with each other, but someone is definitely sleeping on the trundle. - adml_shake, on 05/02/2008, -0/+11Or the flash based Ipod.
- adml_shake, on 05/02/2008, -1/+11Did Asus put out a statement? Just because MS didn't comment doesn't mean that it's been debunked. I know they had said previously that they weren't interested in doing it, but how many companies have said something like that only to release the product a short time later?
- RoroCo, on 05/02/2008, -10/+20Use the 360 as a media extender instead of DVD player. You can then watch HD movies, and if you are not adverse to a little - ARRR - piracy, then you can get free movies as well. I love HD, but this format war is not going to be won by a physical media like Bluray or HD DVD. It is going the way of photos and music and going to be digitally purchased/obtained.
- shakbhaji, on 05/02/2008, -2/+12*its
*their
*their - theaceoffire, on 05/02/2008, -0/+10Or the laser based sharks.
- kent1146, on 05/02/2008, -0/+10I really don't think it's that big of a deal. These companies are so large that it's inevitable that they are in bed with each other. Sony computers run Microsoft Windows, Sony MP3 players support Windows Media DRM, etc.
Ego means nothing. It is the almighty $ that speaks. - swr1ght, on 05/02/2008, -0/+9In the case of the 360, the reason that it is so loud is because they had to design the system to work without a Hard Drive. Because of this, the DVD drive is spinning as fast as it can, pretty much all of the time, so that it can keep all the data that your games require loaded up in the RAM. When watching a DVD movie, it is much quieter. And it is just as quiet as the PS3 when you are playing an Xbox Live game off of your hard drive. There is no real solution, once they made the mistake they made with the hard drives, there was pretty much no possibility that the 360 would ever be quieter than an airplane.
- bCabulon, on 05/02/2008, -2/+11I can see a clear difference between BluRay and upscaled DVD. I'm just not sure it is worth paying almost twice as much for the quality difference. If a movie an BluRay was only $5 more than on DVD I'd get the BluRay version, but at $10-$15 more a disk it is too pricey.
- skeletorcares, on 05/02/2008, -0/+9The Chinese language Economic Daily News is reporting that Pegatron, an OEM subsidiary of ASUS -- Sounds reliable.
- evolvingthought, on 05/02/2008, -0/+9link?
- Jenadae, on 05/02/2008, -1/+10XBOX720?
- robthom, on 05/02/2008, -10/+19"Breaking: Xbox 360..."
'Nuff said. - lhughey, on 05/02/2008, -0/+9I know what you mean. Before for you know it, Sony will be using that operating system called Windows in their computers.
- JasonCox, on 05/02/2008, -1/+9I'll just sit here and wait patiently for Major Nelson to debunk this one just like the last 'x' rumors.
- staticneuron, on 05/02/2008, -3/+11The article was about blu ray stand alone players that had a sales drop. The BR movies have in fact rose 351%. Even if the 360 gets this addon we might here more story's about stand alone player sales fluctuations because people would either be buying the 360 add on or the PS3.
- markbrown, on 05/02/2008, -0/+8Wow people, learn to distinguish from RUMOR from FACT. Digg is getting ***** annoying with how many articles are submitted as truth instead of possibility. This claim comes out of CHINA -- based on a TRANSLATION.
- Dunhamzzz, on 05/02/2008, -2/+9Kinda of a primitive version of the above comment no?
- supersteve, on 05/02/2008, -7/+14meh i am happy downloading HD movies from BT
- ryanwarnersteel, on 05/02/2008, -0/+7I like how engaget has a ? after the sentence, where as the poster of the article omits that, making it seem like a sure thing.
- weejp101, on 05/02/2008, -0/+7I call shenanigans
- inactive, on 05/02/2008, -11/+18Dunno why you got modded down, I guess someone can't detect sarcasm. But yeah, buying a console with a ridiculous failure rate just because they're adding a BR drive = dumb.
