- MakiMaki, on 12/03/2008, -3/+76No offense to insaincain02 (he does submit good stuff) but this Wired post is a nothing but a link jacking source hop. Doesn't deserve the frontpage IMO. The original article has all the details and juicy pictures. This is nothing but a 4 paragraph summary.

And the digg link for source (subbed 15 hrs ago):
http://digg.com/xbox/the_new_portable_XBOX_360 - jagenjg, on 12/03/2008, -2/+45Ben is the man and this is quite awesome. The moron that said it is illegal to mod the 360 is just an jealous idiot. It would only void the warranty.
- inactive, on 12/04/2008, -3/+38Whenever someone uses "an" like that I get a shiver down my spine.
- SpectralSounds, on 12/03/2008, -0/+19I want one so I can bring it to work and get even less accomplished during the day.
- Requench, on 12/04/2008, -2/+21A, E, I, O, U and sometimes J!... wait, that's not right.
- NixiePixel, on 12/03/2008, -2/+14I am just curious, but is it Digg etiquette to ignore the already submitted article from the original source (in this case, Heckendorn's personal site) to link to the secondary news source in a subsequent Digg submission?
(This is a real question, as I'm new, and dugg the original article...I might as well digg this too...) - tm13lke, on 12/04/2008, -0/+11It's gonna suck when that thing gets the RRoD
- MakiMaki, on 12/04/2008, -0/+10And what's that supposed to mean? I don't submit blatant submit hops or link jacks. Not sure what your beef with me is, dude.
- Pardis, on 12/04/2008, -0/+11did you take the time to read who did that one? Yep same guy, this is just his latest.
- giveer, on 12/04/2008, -0/+11"Your making way more social then it is."
W-O-W. - jaybol, on 12/03/2008, -1/+11yeah it is also a bummer that the original source often doesn't make it because the domain isn't reputable yet and the algo requires more diggs out of it. insaincain does submit good stuff and also sometimes the dupe checker doesn't catch the original.
- nerdherder, on 12/04/2008, -1/+10What an *awesome waste of time and money.
There I fixed it for you. - MakiMaki, on 12/03/2008, -2/+11It's always digg etiquette to digg the source instead of something that references it. Especially if the source is first submitted on digg. In this case, the story from benheck.com was submitted first and should be dugg.
The only exception is that when the source story has expired (generally over 2 days+ old) and has no chance of reaching the frontpage, an article referencing it should be alright since it at least ensues that someone gets to read about the story/event. It is still a source hop but a lesser evil.
There is however, little excuse for submitting a link jacked story that simply repurposes the source, when the source is still alive and active (has a chance of reaching the frontpage). This Wired/benheck.com case is exactly that scenario, hence I left a comment earlier in this thread.
My idea of digg etiquette would be to withhold from submitting the source hop if the source is already submitted. Instead promote the submitted source by shouting it. Or if you're not interested in promoting the source, at least just digg it and move on. If dupes were accidentally made (this happens often), one should undigg ones own story as a gesture of courtesy to the original submitter. But that's just me.
This Wired story is not even original content. It simply references the original piece. This is common of many blogs and sometimes its not even their fault that people submit their stuff, although many major sites (blog networks included) have a lot of staff and they circulate emails to get them to digg the story that's submitted, while ignoring the source. But that's another story.
This Wired story is known as a source-hop or an intermediary. This is explicitly mentioned in Digg's TOU, point 5.7 --> http://digg.com/tos
"By way of example, and not as a limitation, you agree not to use the Services to submit stories or comments linking to affiliate programs, multi-level marketing schemes, sites/blogs repurposing existing stories (source hops)" - xOutlawx, on 12/04/2008, -0/+9It's the same guy. This is Ben Heck's second pass on the 360-in-a-laptop-form-factor mod. He explains on his personal website that he left out the keyboard this time in favor of more ventilation ports.
- sjbdallas, on 12/04/2008, -0/+7I see what you did there.
- MasterGrief, on 12/04/2008, -0/+6This guy is fantastic.
- ZombieSociety, on 12/04/2008, -0/+5You use an grammar.
- alexra, on 12/04/2008, -0/+5I wish microsoft would do stuff like this, think of how much xbox portables they would sell, if they made it thinner, and gave it a good price
- oolitic, on 12/04/2008, -0/+5Dude's a modder extraordinaire. I am sure he has worked this all out.
The things looks awesome. I wonder if the form factor can be reduced further. - liljay2k, on 12/04/2008, -1/+6You fail at heckling.
- metaliq, on 12/04/2008, -0/+4Your mom's a pussy, iGameDigg.
- AparoidX, on 12/04/2008, -1/+5I'm pretty sure that's implied.
- inactive, on 12/04/2008, -0/+4Is that not the desired process, and end result of modding a console? 0_o
- scojerroc, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3dugg for comprehensive answer. and good etiquette.
- inactive, on 12/04/2008, -1/+4AIGHT JUST ONE THING BEFORE I LET U HAVE THE KEYS.
BLING, U HAVE OFFICIALLY BEEN PIMPED. - hilo4321, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3folds like a laptop
but, like someone on wired said, the ideal would be a turnable screen in the same vein as a tablet pc - Walled, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3hang in there man, i bumped you up.
- MakiMaki, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3Uh dude. Look at the submission times. This is clearly the dupe and the digg link I gave was the original. It's so friggin simple.
This digg article - submitted 1 day 42 mins.
The original digg article - submitted 1 day 10 hr ago
http://digg.com/xbox/the_new_portable_XBOX_360
That's at least 9 hours earlier. Try doing some math. Your proof just shows the made popular time. Look at the submission times if you want to determine which is the dupe.
This Wired post is clearly rubbish and everyone knows it. Benhack.com had the full article and it was submitted to digg first, not this link jacking crap. - bejayel, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3I thought i had already seen one of these before
- Lionhart, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3Going to really suck when it redrings.
Anyone know if it has a battery pack? - dha07030, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3@iGameDigg
No you have some weird beef with users judging by your user name. - cruzer2727, on 12/04/2008, -2/+5I just peed a little.
- SimplyPerfect, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3why is this in the news now? Ben Heck did the same friggin' job like 2 years ago like previously stated
- inactive, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3mirror because the site's acting slow.
http://benheck.com.nyud.net/12-02-2008/new-xbox-36 ... - cf7276, on 12/04/2008, -3/+5I just came
- Signa91, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2hm. thanks.
- Derelict267, on 12/04/2008, -1/+3Is it really portable? How does he fit the power supply in that thing? ***** it's gotta be half the size of the laptop...
- gamben0, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2God bless this man and everything he creates.
- fcruz1331, on 12/04/2008, -1/+3He accidentally the comment
- nerdherder, on 12/04/2008, -1/+3Might have been funny if you said "so we put 360 in your laptop so you can play games while you game."
- DaHuuuuuudge, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2This is the same guy. He's doing it again, differently,
- kidwithsword, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2Damn, I want one.
