- inactive, on 06/02/2008, -6/+151My favorite part of the GTA franchise is watching the idiocy displayed by the critics who seem to think that thanks solely to this game, civilization will ultimately become one big woman-beating, hooker-killing party.
If your child is able to have his sense of morality and reality completely corrupted by a video game, you've failed as a parent in a colossal way. - NightsWatch, on 06/02/2008, -16/+145Feminists are the most sexist people I know.
- Joeshie, on 06/02/2008, -9/+91I always found it hilarious how these feminists can completely ignore the violence against men in favor of violence against women. It's clear that the feminists in opposition of GTAIV clearly believe that video games can influence your behavior. If that's so, then why do they only focus on violence against women, and don't give two ***** about violence against men?
Typical self-centered feminism. - Synova, on 06/02/2008, -13/+80The hookers have every right to earn money the way they choose. Also, I have every right to chose to kill them and get my money back.
- WiseWeasel, on 06/02/2008, -11/+69Is 'feministing' like a man-hating take on fisting?
- Hindu_Wardrobe, on 06/03/2008, -4/+53I'm female, and I happen to love running over hookers. :D
- WallnutBoy, on 06/03/2008, -1/+43I've played GTA from a very young age, and I treat women just fine.
...when they let me get close enough... -_- - WatchDragon, on 06/03/2008, -1/+40M — Mature: Contains content that is considered unsuitable for teenagers under the age of 17. Titles in this category may contain intense violence such as blood and gore, sexual references and/or strong language.
If your a parent, and buy this for your "impressionable little ray of sunshine", its your fault. - MrFisty, on 06/03/2008, -0/+35Do you also play GTA?
- shadekeiko, on 06/03/2008, -5/+34I wouldn't necessarily consider myself a feminist per se (more of an "equal rights for everyone-ist", I guess. The crazy bra-burners kind of annoy me), though going to an all girls school for most of my life has caused me to at least be aware of the issues that still are prevalent in society when it comes to women's rights, etc. Anyway, I'm personally not a GTA fan - but that's not because I'm a woman or a feminist, it's because I simply prefer to play RPG games and Guitar Hero. Several of my fellow video game playing friends love GTA, though, and they're women. I really don't think this is a misogyny-type issue. It's just another branch of people who can't seem to understand the video games =/= reality.
- tylermenezes, on 06/03/2008, -1/+28I hate the idea that there are "flaws in her opinion". You don't have flaws in your opinion, that's just what you think. You can have flaws in your thesis.
- eggsovereasy, on 06/03/2008, -1/+24The word you are looking for is "misandry".
Misogyny - the hatred of women by men
Misandry - the hatred of men by women
Misanthropy - the hatred of humankind - Echo18, on 06/03/2008, -2/+23I'm a feminist, and I love guys! I hate that feminism has become such a dirty word due to a few extremists. =[
- Murdats, on 06/03/2008, -3/+23because its a double standard.
- Ben1220, on 06/03/2008, -2/+20If only thats what they really believe...
I read a quote somewhere, for every intelligent feminist who ACTUALLY believes in equality between the sexes, there are 99 who believe in female supremacy or the like. Just look at the overwhelming number of women who believe Hilary Clinton should be the next President, just because she's a women. If thats not sexism then what is? - inactive, on 06/03/2008, -0/+15Don't fall for the lies. Men and women are a team, not in competition.
- kawaiirobo, on 06/03/2008, -0/+15sadly it's not a few extremists. I can totally get behind women wanting equal pay and fair treatment in the work place, but the majority of feminists I have met on my collage campus are raging femo-supremacists. I once had a professor tell the women in the class that it was ok to tell the police you were raped if you willingly had sex with a guy and regretted it in the morning. Maybe I have had exceptionally bad run-ins with feminists but from what i have experenced, equality is no where near the goal of the feminists I've met.

- RobotMojo, on 06/03/2008, -12/+26Call me old fashioned ... but, women voters?
- 808ethan, on 06/03/2008, -4/+16...which is why we lost parenting rights and pay alimony despite equal work rights, and are the only gender to register for selective service.
- 808ethan, on 06/03/2008, -2/+14Umm, 'equal' must be a typo. 'As much as they ***** can get' is correct.
- sgtpppr, on 06/03/2008, -0/+11Your nick is 'barfnugget' and these comments are making you sick? I'd be interested in hearing how much of the game you've played to make a judgment on it.
- sayokobizen, on 06/03/2008, -0/+11GTA has always had its share of satire, and I love how they never discriminate when it comes to being 'offensive'.
As a woman I've never been offended by it. People need to lighten up - helikopter, on 06/03/2008, -5/+15Seriously, enough with the digg commentary. Who gives a flying ***** who submitted the article? Digg if you like it, bury it if you think it's lame. End of story.
Get a life. - Spudster, on 06/03/2008, -3/+13I have followed gender relations very closely over the years. Here's what I find (for perspective, I should clarify I'm a man):
There are two views on gender. The 'conservative' view that women and men are intrinsically different no matter how much we push for equality, and the 'liberal' view that men and women can coexist as equals with the same opportunities. It's a REALLY important distinction that people should immediately recognize when thinking about misandry and misogyny issues. Personally, I am an idealist who believes in a liberal view on gender issues.
There are many feminists who have a bias against men, but when you sit down and really discuss the issues with them, I find many do come to understand the issues involving misandry (sexism against men). When I discuss misandry with men, nearly all readily agree that they are discriminated. However, I find that it is nearly impossible for them submit that sexism against women exists. So whereas many feminists are pursuing a liberal version of gender empowerment (that of full equality and opportunities to both), many men I convince on the issue of misandry are completely opposed to actual liberal, gender equality. (This is a real generalization to make, as both women and men equally suscribe to both the conservative and liberal viewpoints, but in general, I've had much more difficulty in gaining the support of men on gender issues than women.) To be honest, I think this is because men have problems opening up issues such as this, which run deep into our core values.
In the end, the polarization between both genders need to end. This can only come from an understanding that both men and women think in different ways (this does not mean we are intrinsically different, we only communicate and express ourselves differently). Once both can understand why the other likes Sex and the City (or GTA4 in the case of women), then we'll be getting much closer to full gender understanding. What's clear however, is that the radicals on both sides need to stop. Men are not chauvinistic rapists, and women have a sum higher than that of their waist-to-hip ratios. - Murdats, on 06/03/2008, -1/+10Sorry there seems to be some misunderstanding.
I was replying to "it's Woman-centered. And why not?"
thinking you meant what would be wrong with the world being women centered.
I myself am I male and despise the movements that seek unfair advantage of a certain social group. - inactive, on 06/03/2008, -2/+11fem·i·nism [fem-uh-niz-uhm]
–noun
1. the doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men. - kodek, on 06/03/2008, -2/+11Lucky for you, but it wasn't the same in my case.
Thanks to all those games, especially the ones with cars in them, I ended up with a fix-it ticket for having my car's registration expired. Now my life will never be the same.
I wish I could change the past... - ianweir, on 06/03/2008, -1/+10One technique I like to use is that when I see something depicting something happening regarding or between one or both genders, I imagine what the public reaction would be if the genders were reversed.
Using that technique, it's amazing how many things you discover in our society that are completely accepted when they portray men negatively, but would cause protests in the streets (or at the very least angry letters) if the genders were reversed. It's quite prevalent. From sitcoms to the comics, it's everywhere. You've just gotta look harder.
Feminists aren't the only ones "aware of a situation others don't want to admit exists". Perhaps you also should "grow the ***** up" and stop being judgemental also? I realize that stating this makes my hypocritical, but isn't accusing someone else of being judgemental in and of itself judgmental? - YoctoYotta, on 06/03/2008, -1/+10Ugh, you criminals disgust me.
- BlackJackJester, on 06/03/2008, -1/+10Good thing there is no blog about the victims of sidewalk driving.
- Prathik89, on 06/03/2008, -1/+10***** tards who just say ***** in ever thing they say.

..You do realize you are currently on Digg.com, right? - Plower, on 06/03/2008, -12/+20shut up and make me a sandwich
- inactive, on 06/03/2008, -2/+9That's why I hate feminists (a most laughably named group of people), and anyone else whose goal is to pit the sexes against one another, in their case with lies about centuries of subjugation.
- gothelium, on 06/03/2008, -2/+9Psh, ***** that! I'm a girl and I love GTAIV. I even got all excited when I managed to kill Michelle on a date. People just need to stop being so damned defensive.
- kirado4, on 06/03/2008, -2/+9they're certainly not a "few".. more like a "majority"
- cfuse, on 06/03/2008, -0/+7The feminists that give the majority a bad name seem not to understand that not all problems can be solved by applying an equally wrong opposite force. It isn't a question of sides, which many fail to grasp also. We'll either get there together, or not at all - because we need each other.
- captoftheworld, on 06/03/2008, -2/+8To be fair, I read the blogs and not all of them feel that way.
Many of them look at the issue rationally. - tullyr, on 06/03/2008, -1/+7That would be misandrism. Yoinked from somewhere in the vast Feminist Conspiracy:
"Feminism is the belief in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes, whereas misandrism is hatred of men. There are a few misandrists out there labeling themselves "feminists", thereby giving the ignorant a poor idea of feminists in general."
Research is fun. - smalleywall, on 06/03/2008, -0/+6Have you dated any of the girls yet? Because both Kate and, to a lesser extent, Michelle are pretty powerful arguments against the claim of huge in-game misogyny (Or more specifically, the non-satiric misogyny).
Although the actual dating components could be argued as pretty shallow, the relationship you build isn't. - KyMcMan, on 06/03/2008, -1/+7I chuckle every single time I make my cash back.
That's why I enjoy this game so much because it's funny and absurd. - ryan926, on 06/03/2008, -5/+11when i first read that i swore you said "sexiest".
- cfuse, on 06/03/2008, -3/+9If that is the case, then you hand your balls in at the desk on the way out.
- KingGorilla, on 06/03/2008, -0/+6Extremists ruin everything
- SpykerSpeed, on 06/03/2008, -3/+9Most men hate women? Yeah right! By the same token you can just as easily say most women hate men.
- kawaiirobo, on 06/03/2008, -2/+8no your not.
- inactive, on 06/03/2008, -1/+6couldn't agree with ya more, with every release of GTA theres at least 4 months of "this game is evil!!" "we must protect our children", etc..
I've played every GTA released except 4 (no console system anymore), starting when i was 14..
played every version of Doom and Duke Nukem, starting with Doom1 when i was in sixth grade (11 years old).
played Wolfenstein3d, and Spear of Destiny when i was in third grade. (8 years old)
15 years of violent video games, practically every controversial "bad for our kids" video game ever made.. and how many serious crimes have i commited? None...
So sick of these people that try to change the world for themselves.. Oh video games are bad and cause school shootings because Jack Thompson said so, therefore we must banish them all!
/rant. - smashingmonkey, on 06/03/2008, -1/+6True. Actually if you see GTA4 for the cheeky, over-the-top, good satire that it is, in a sense it is very feminist and progressive on other levels as well. Doesn't work if you can't see through your own filters though.
- sonstone, on 06/03/2008, -0/+5The problem is that both Sex and the City and GTA perpetuate the problem by reinforcing gender stereotypes. Everything around us perpetuates the problem, making it increasingly difficult to determine what the "real" differences between the sexes are (minus the biological stuff, of course).
