Me: Hey you guys selling BioShock?
Gamestop Employee: Nope, not til next week
Me with a smug look: Oh clearly you haven't heard the news on the intrawebs! See you tomorrow jerk.
The real jerk? Me. - MechaZain, on 10/10/2007, -2/+40I hate you, Internet.
- mortigon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18"The whole situation was just a...."
Just a what?! Oh the suspense! Now I actually have to read the article! - jron, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14BioShock-XBOX360-USA-DAGGER
NFO:
Region Free, patched and what not.
biggest game of the year?
who knows
but gta4 is delayed, so well, who knows
enjoy this one, nice and early, directly from your friends at daggah! - DiggzDE, on 10/10/2007, -8/+18Anyone who still calls the internet the intrawebs is not just a jerk but a pompous ass as well.
- SnuKs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Well at least you admitted it.. Ill give you that much.
- pogfreak, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7RIGHT BECAUSE HACKERS HAVE NEVER GOTTEN AROUND "INTERNET ACTIVATION" BEFORE.
- Walgreenz, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8It was leaked about 4 hours ago for the 360.
- wageslaven, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Yeah, ***** that Manager for doing his job right! What an ***** for not risking his job so some kid can get a video game 5 days before he's supposed to!
- scooby0110, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5someones in a bad mood.
- badwithcomputer, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7I'd guess at least a few thousand...word travels fast. I think they planned this- it's like Showtime leaking Weeds episodes before the season to generate good Internet buzz. Probably the best thing that could happen for a video game.
- Ragnar0k, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Yeahhu, and Steam was supposedly meant to stop all cracks. My girlfriend still played her torrented HL2 fine before she bought the genuine article.
-Rag - nogami, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I wish they had released Bioshock on steam - I would've purchased it instantly, preloaded it, and had it sitting and waiting for a decryption key to come down on release day. Having to go to a store and pick up physical media from the pimply faced youth... How quaint... Very 90s.
- TimmyGUNZ, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7Sure you will!
- thrallie, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5People do buy games they pirate..not all pirates are evil. What if a game doesn't have a demo? You download the torrent, play it. I've done that before and bought the game. But I still keep the hacked version until I want to play online..and THEN I have to put a ***** CD Key into it and..a no cd crack.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2They are in stock just not selling. The local EB manager let me see the collectors edition. The Big Daddy figurine looks cool.
- scooby0110, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2i dont think its going to leak early on the pc. becuase, it requires an internet connection for activation. So, I doubt you will see the pc version before the street date.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2No need to paste that kind of thing here. Anyone who knows about usenet is fully capable of finding it.
- max420, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Whoa, calm down now ladies. besides, I don't think its a big deal. Apparently the PC version wasn't leaked early so that one is safe, also the online activation will stop it from being released early. But the console version being sold early isn't a HUGE deal. Apparently it was only a few Toys R Us stores, cause I went to the one here in Vancouver as SOON as I saw the original article, and they told me the game wasn't out until the 21st. So its only probably a few hundred copies at most, out of probably hundreds of thousands waiting for this game. So honestly, I don't think it will have a HUGE impact on this game. And there are way less modded xbox's then not so I really doubt it will be a huge deal on the xbox 360 of things as well.
- max420, on 10/10/2007, -6/+8I wonder how long until the PC version finds its way onto bit torrent.... I hope by tonight, because if so I will dload it now, and then buy it next week when it comes out! Wweeeeeeeee!
- gfreeman223, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Well, that's ***** terrible.
I'm still going to TRU tomorrow and trying to get the employee to sell me one! - max420, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3meh, the 360 version may be out on the scene, but I am waiting for it to come out on PC.... 8800gtx ftw...
- moofree, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2If he was talking to you, he would have replied to YOUR comment.
- scooby0110, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2They absolutely will break the internet activation step. No doubt, I don't disagree with you. But I don't think they will release this before the actual street date.
- max420, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2HAHAHA, I was just going to say. Everygame these guys have made have always been REALLY good... just never really big sellers for some reason. Not sure why. System Shock 2 was, and probably is still one of the best games ever made.
- incognit0, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4yeah as if there are THAT many people out there with modded 360's to significantly hurt the sales...
- viewdrix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2We all do, Mecha.
Though we still don't have explanation for the "Available now" commercials. - wageslaven, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4The Press People need the marketing plan to go correctly. Like the movie business, they want a big "opening week", Bioshock is looking like its will do very well, they will get much free-press when Bioshock shows up as #1 on the weekly games sales list.
Toys R. Us simply made an idoit mistake. No big deal... Maybe a few hundred copies snuck out. - pogfreak, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Not every store has it, and its (mostly) out of the store's control when they will receive their shipments. Retailers order X copies based on how much they expect to sell, under the assumption they will be able to start selling them the same day as every one else. Breaking this is just not a good way to do business (between publishers and retailers).
- max420, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Hehe, I agree with you, but at the same time it depends where you live. If you live in a rural area and its a long drive to the nearest gamestop or ebgames then yeah, it sucks. But me, I have an eb games literally a 5 minute walk away, plus no credit card which means that steam is useless anyway.
- Ravenhaft, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Your lame... there just excited, its you're fault for coming to Digg. Making lots of errors is actually really hard. My mind is reeling. I'm going to go lie down now...
- Import98, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I picked one up this afternoon. Got one of 4 copies left. Pretty amazing game and am having a blast with it. Should have it beat by this weekend.
XBL: Import98 - Ravenhaft, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That just means it starts shipping on 8/20. Which means it gets to you at 8/21
- DeRiza, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I wonder if the corp. offices are going to do anything to the employees who sold it not knowing there was a street date?
And will Toys R. Us have to pay fines to 2K for breaking street date with so many copies? Does anyone know? - postal21, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It makes me wish the first article hadnt taken so long to get to the front page of digg...
- max420, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yeah, I think it has to do with allowing all of the stores to receive their shipments.
- GiantGhost, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Why won't they release it early? If stores have it, what's the problem with selling it? And I'm not even going to buy it (at least not right away), I'm just genuinely curious about the motivation for not selling a game that's done and shipped...
- smiley2billion, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5If the commercials that say "Available Now" are to be believed then can they get in any trouble for airing them?
- Akkarin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2It's that time of the month...
- HBNDonut, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Well... there's also the people who will finish the game before next Tuesday and lend the game to their friends.
- wageslaven, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I dont know about that. I believe that the Publishers prefer sweetheart relationships with retailers that *dont* sell used product. Im thinking they'd prefer us all to hold our old game library and remove it from the revenue competitors...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1True, but I am not sure of the relevance to this discussion.
- Ravenhaft, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Except that's not similar at all, seeing as how there was no way to activate Half Life 2 prior to the -actual- release date. I remember that, the activation servers all going down *shudder*
- tito13kfm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Invites are offline for now anyways.
- Yarnage, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Two weeks? It's out next week idiot.... wow you think one week is going to hurt game sales?
I have two words for you: dumb - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11913760 FTW!
- M724, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It doesn't matter. It's out and there's no way to take it back. Other stores will want a piece of the pie, otherwise Toys R Us will sell the game to a large portion of the people who wanted it.
- Ravenhaft, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Don't hate the playas guys, hate the game. Err, "The Scene".
- max420, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2If I download a game and I enjoy it, I buy it. If I don't like it I usually stop playing withing the first hour anyway. Its like a demo... only better.
- omyard, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1When I pre-ordered my LE today the guy said they were already in. I should've asked if I could see one. He said the Big Daddy figure was metal, which is cool. I was thinking they'd just throw a cheap plastic one in.
