- officeman3, on 07/28/2008, -8/+240I love google, but thought I would try the new Cuil (pronounced cool). I am writing an article for a magazine and searched both google and cuil. Google gave me 191,000 hits and cuil 3 hits on "eclipse phase of ducks". Go Google. Also Cuil lacks the large "next page" link at the bottom of search pages. I dislike clicking on a small number page to get more results. Google is not done yet.

After a few searches, I think they have something going here. Nobody is ever going to look through 191,000 hits to find something. If cuil gets you what you need with just 3 results, all the more power to it.

- dshPls, on 07/28/2008, -19/+42The layout is annoying. Why isn't the page centered? Is it so damn amazingly cutting edge to put your site left of center now? Is that Web 2.0 at its best? Remember, even stupid people can easily use Google, this site could easily cause problems for the less tech friendly crowd.

Not really liking the way they show results either, reading trough multiple columns just seems to take more time to find what you want.

Google just works. All the test searches I did, I got more results in Google which were better organized (earlier results were more relevant). Cuil is stylish, but I'll stick with Google, thanks.

They lack the index of google, epic phail.
- djepik, on 07/28/2008, -0/+18Google is different because you can actually pronounce it. Sure it didn't mean anything a couple years ago, but at least it follows basic english rules. Cuil combines letters that aren't combined in the english language, so it's impossible to pronounce. And I, will never be caught pronouncing it "cool" when it is clearly spelled incorrectly for that pronunciation.
To amplify:
"Amneesheroc" (totally made up) is pronouncable - just simple sounds combined into a word. I suppose you could get confused with the emphasis, but writing it as amNEEsheroc fixes that.
"phqoiud" is not pronouncable - much like cuil. The combination of letters don't have a known sound in English. - IanCube, on 07/28/2008, -0/+17Weird results, not very relevant so far...
