- BZWingZero, on 09/21/2008, -0/+4LOX and LOH storage. One tank for each pad.
- bravo1995, on 09/22/2008, -0/+3Liquid hydrogen (LH2) and liquid oxygen (LO2). LH2 is used as fuel for the Space Shuttle main engines, and LO2 is the oxidizer. Each sphere is 850,000 gallons, and each pad has one LH2 tank and one LO2 tank. Also, they have "NO SMOKING" painted on them in such a way that you can read it from about a mile away.
- Merp08, on 09/21/2008, -0/+3Wow.... this is gorgeous, thanks!
- inactive, on 09/22/2008, -0/+3yeah, but it's just the same thing from a different angle

- cuoops, on 09/22/2008, -0/+3I'm all for Digg being user generated, but these dupes are getting ridiculous.
- MrFurious2k, on 09/22/2008, -0/+3Needs a unicorn to be complete. Dugg though.
- klitzbtc, on 09/21/2008, -0/+2What are those white ball looking containers for.
- judicar, on 09/21/2008, -1/+3Chemtrail rainbow produced after heavy spraying, probably barium.
- xeno439, on 09/21/2008, -0/+2Dugg for duplicate.
@hyper
This was on the front page before. But this one has two rainbows.
Now, this is going to get a little weird . . . - Dylson, on 09/21/2008, -0/+22 shuttles 1 rainbow.
- jdpafundi, on 09/21/2008, -1/+3Absolutely astonishing scene. Man made beauty + mother nature's beauty = awe inspiring.
- cyrix, on 09/21/2008, -0/+2Kinky...
- Vertol, on 09/22/2008, -0/+2Last time there was 2 Shuttle's on the launch pad ! There was a giant Asteroid coming at the Earth !.
- vroom101, on 09/22/2008, -0/+2There are TWO rainbows in this photo! This is the ONLY photo that I'm aware showing two shuttles on their launch pads AND a double rainbow -- it isn't a duplicate of anything!
- doktorrocket, on 09/22/2008, -0/+2"Why not use the rescue shuttle for an ISS mission right after the Hubble mission?"
They are. LON-400 becomes STS-126 if it's not needed for rescue. My understanding is that it will change launch pads, though, and need a payload change out. But the shuttle + tank + booster stack up is the same. - CMiYC, on 09/22/2008, -0/+2OMG Rainbows?!? What is they putting in our oxygen supply!?
- bryan567, on 09/22/2008, -1/+3Winning pic will have......18 rainbows
- inactive, on 09/22/2008, -1/+3"Buried for already being on the frontpage"
- DeFex, on 09/22/2008, -0/+2Wait till Iran gets their hands on this "we have 43 space shuttles and 10 rainbows!! photos to prove it!"
- brownbus, on 09/29/2008, -0/+1 I shot the stills. We shot Friday during STS-126 rollout and also Saturday morning. Friday we were in the air at dawn. Saturday we had to wait until 8:30. the video guy and I were bummed we wouldn't have the sunrise again. But were stoked to see the rainbow on our first pass.
A friend sent me an email and said my shots were on Digg. How cool!
Shot with 2 Canon 40D. One wit ha 70-2002.8 IS the other a 24-105 4.0 IS.

- rnawky, on 09/21/2008, -0/+1Thanks for mirroring a picture on a US Government website with imageshack.
- YouAreNumber6, on 09/21/2008, -0/+1Why not use the rescue shuttle for an ISS mission right after the Hubble mission? It's all ready to go.
Also, this reminds me of science fiction space port paintings/covers. Forget flying cars - I was promised space ports! - iNoles, on 09/22/2008, -0/+1When they launched these shuttles, i be watching them outside.
- somedirtbag, on 09/22/2008, -0/+1My bags are packed...
- iChopPryde, on 09/22/2008, -0/+1I was thinking the same thing
- mst3kcrow, on 09/21/2008, -1/+2Somewhere, two unicorns are engaging in intercourse.
- TexasDude, on 09/22/2008, -0/+1nice.
- vroom101, on 09/21/2008, -3/+4This picture has TWO rainbows.
- fluoride, on 09/22/2008, -0/+1I'm wondering as to why there were two shuttles ready on the launch pad. They don't usually, ever launch two shuttles in extremely short periods of time, do they?
- exhume, on 09/22/2008, -0/+1DAMN YOU MOONRAKER!!!
- bravo1995, on 09/22/2008, -0/+1!
- jaycers, on 09/22/2008, -0/+1The second, dimmer rainbow is a reflection of the first one. You can tell because the order of the colors is reversed.
- futurepastnow, on 09/22/2008, -0/+1I could stare at pictures like this for hours, picking out little details...
- hyperspaztik, on 09/21/2008, -1/+1Well then. I just remember seeing the same thing very recently.
- Ex3poo, on 09/22/2008, -1/+1This looks familiar......
