School Bus Brawl watch!
youtube.com — A student on a school bus in Gilbert, Arizona gets into an argument with the driver when the driver won't let the student off the bus. The confrontation escalates, and the driver's daughter even gets into the action.

- SeaMowse, on 02/24/2008, -3/+362Although it isn't until a good 7 minutes or so into the tape before the real 'action' starts, it's interesting to see how things slowly escalated out of control.

- BlueSkyfish, on 02/24/2008, -1/+25This games winner is... Bitchy Teen!
- MewtwoReturns, on 02/24/2008, -13/+1It's funny, this Brawl was actually over her not wanting to be a tourneyfag. The bus driver wouldn't let her get off before they got to her scheduled stop. In other words...the bus driver is a tourneyfag, trying to force Bitchy Teen to play at Final Destination.
- Ajajadude, on 02/24/2008, -22/+4Well, the video is a little grainy, but that bitch is a little ugly...maybe that's why she flipped out.

I'M CALLING MY MOM! - cawpin, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1While this is both sad and entertaining because of the stupidity involved I have to ask one question. If you want off the bus that bad and the driver won't let you out, why don't you just go out the emergency exit at the back?

- wicketr, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1That was by far the best moment of the entire video.
My question, though, is where are the ***** men on the bus?? What a bunch of pussies. When 2-3-4 bitches are in a yelling match, there is no common sense *****. A guy should have stepped in and got things under control. Or at least pointed the bitch to the fact that there is another door at the other end of the bus if she was so adamant about getting off.

- joemofo214, on 02/24/2008, -12/+76this happened to me before, the bus driver wouldnt let me off, because i was talking when he had a headache, so i just got out through the emergency exit. driver got fired.
- accvrat, on 02/24/2008, -13/+41does it make you happy, bus driver got fired?
- highstriker, on 02/24/2008, -10/+53Bus drivers have no right to not let a student out of the vehicle. That action alone is going to lead to problems.
It's too bad the guy lost his job, but if you're going to do something like that, then maybe you should get a different job. Or consider calling in sick.- TheTaoOfBill, on 02/24/2008, -18/+7Actually they do have that right. Especially if they aren't supposed to be riding that bus.
- democrap, on 02/24/2008, -4/+8wtf? that made no sense
- highstriker, on 02/24/2008, -0/+4@democrap: Not letting a student off the bus is going to cause a situation to escalate- like it did in this video. Perhaps some students don't know they can't be let off at any time/anywhere. I know it was never a cause of concern at the high school I went to, because the bus *only* stopped where this wouldn't have been a problem- as in at a student's home. In other words- the drivers waited until the student *could* get off before really reprimanding them. Doing otherwise is just asking for trouble.
That and I think it's too bad the driver lost his job. I don't necessarily think either handled things the right way (student and driver), but even though a driver might not handle such an event very well, I don't think they should be fired. - diggimator, on 02/24/2008, -0/+1whether she wasn't supposed to block people from leaving the bus or if she wasn't supposed to allow people from leaving the bus, perhaps getting into an altercation that lead to the situation in the first place may be enough of a reason for the driver to get fired.
- aoneal417, on 02/24/2008, -12/+2if the bus driver can't succeed in life enough to get a job better than bus driver, and then can't have enough discipline in his job to make it through a headache on one ride, then he had the right to get fired

- blackinthmiddle, on 02/24/2008, -10/+49Well and that's the reason why this bus driver was so adamant about the girl *not* getting off of the bus. ANYTHING bad happens to the girl and it's the bus driver's fault. They'd get sued *****. The bottom line is that kids today simply have ZERO respect for adults.
- HubrisDeadPan, on 02/24/2008, -18/+8Where's the evidence of this? Bus drivers just shuttle kids to and fro, how are they responsible for any student once they get off the bus? I'd say their domain of authority starts and ends within the confines of the bus, not outside it.
- crossmr, on 02/24/2008, -1/+21Drivers have assigned stops. They're not supposed to stop outside of those. Drop a kid off outside an assigned spot and yes, you could be in trouble.
- afidler, on 02/24/2008, -1/+5Exactly, *you* would say that the bus is where the jurisdiction of the bus driver begins and ends, but in reality all of those in that bus drivers position are responsible for getting the students to a SPECIFIC point and under very few circumstances can they break those rules. If that kid were to be let off that bus in the middle of the trip and something were to happen to that kid (a.k.a. bitchy teen) then the bus driver could easily be sued for letting that kid off. It's is in the best interest of that driver to not let that kid off.

- eldano512, on 02/24/2008, -2/+10of course you'd say that, hubris. you know nothing about the legal system.
- logandurand, on 02/24/2008, -8/+3Listen up: Even though they may be sued over something, they should still do the right thing and let the kids off of the bus, and whatever happens to them happens.
- Angostura, on 02/24/2008, -3/+4That's certainly a compelling legal argument that will stand up well in court... oh wait, no it; not.
- logandurand, on 03/08/2008, -0/+1Hey, not saying it will hold up in today's courts, but it's the right thing to do.
- narcofiche, on 02/24/2008, -0/+4Kids having no respect for adults is noting new. It's part of being a kid. There are lots of good kids out there, but I highly doubt we'd all be discussing a highly dugg story about a nice kid on a bus.
- HubrisDeadPan, on 02/24/2008, -18/+8Where's the evidence of this? Bus drivers just shuttle kids to and fro, how are they responsible for any student once they get off the bus? I'd say their domain of authority starts and ends within the confines of the bus, not outside it.
- MaxPayne3476, on 02/24/2008, -0/+23Hmm... my bus driver dropped me and this kid off in the middle of no where because we were cursing on the bus and just left us. I was in 8th grade and didn't think that he couldnt' ACTUALLY do this. Same ending: Driver was fired.
- aceakm, on 02/24/2008, -2/+2My grandma was a bus driver and made a kid get off the bus in the middle of nowhere for cursing and being disruptive. She didn't get fired though.
- absentmindedjwc, on 02/24/2008, -6/+12dont you just love the teenager sense of self entitlement?
Assaulting a bus driver... anything less than an expulsion would be not enough.... The bus driver was in the right here, it is her responsibility to ensure the safety of every child on the bus, just because someone wants to get off doesn't mean that they are entitled to get off, as they are in the schools care until they get home.- logandurand, on 02/24/2008, -15/+2Yes, damn her for thinking she was entitled to not be treated like a prisoner. Who is she to try and leave the prison bus?
You know what? ***** you and every other adult who thinks that teenagers are cattle who have no rights and need to be herded from place to place. If the driver was not letting her leave the bus, she can do whatever it takes to get around her.- endersshadow, on 02/24/2008, -1/+8Ah ha! Angsty teenager! That finishes up my Internet scavenger hunt! Huzzah!
In all seriousness: Until you can drive your ass anywhere, you _do_ need to be herded from place to place. - giveer, on 02/24/2008, -1/+5I think your mom left dinner's leftovers in the fridge. You're up late because it's Saturday and there's no school tomorrow, so why don't you go eat something yummy? Off you go...
- smacksaw, on 02/24/2008, -1/+3Hey, if the kid had a permission slip from the parents and a notarised document promising to indemnify everyone from legal action, she can get the ***** off of the bus when it's moving for all I care.
Otherwise, the rules apply. Sorry if you don't like them, but take it up with "the man" sometime. - logandurand, on 03/08/2008, -0/+1Sorry for the profane comment, I was not in a good mood that day. That said, this has nothing to do with "the man", my issue is with this particular rule, which seems to be driven by a mentality that the school district "owns", for lack of a better word, the students. Most rules are good, this one isn't.
- endersshadow, on 02/24/2008, -1/+8Ah ha! Angsty teenager! That finishes up my Internet scavenger hunt! Huzzah!
- LucasJ218, on 02/24/2008, -1/+13Teenagers ARE in fact cattle who have no rights and need to be herded around. Until you're 18 (17 in some states I believe), your ass is either looked after by family or the state you live in - you cannot make legal decisions alone and any protest means very little. Whether right or not, that's how it is.
This is why you have no freedom of speech in school. While you're in school, you have to obey the schools rules. Once you're out, you can do what you want. Same applies here. She uses a service the school provides and must adhere to the rules just like everyone else. It is a BIGGER safety concern for a child (YES, A CHILD) to be dropped off in some random area then to stay on the bus until reaching a certain destination. However, any physical attacks the bus driver made towards the student are NOT justified.
Teachers/Faculty (Including bus drivers) have the right to use self defense, but it didn't look to me as if the girl wanting to get off made any physical contact initially. By the way, I'm not some authority driven adult - I'm a liberal 20 yr old. Just stating the facts of life - you'll understand eventually if you don't now.- giveer, on 02/24/2008, -1/+2Well said. I order you to leave more comments in threads thriving with what would otherwise be a bunch of young people whining.
- pixelate, on 02/24/2008, -0/+3Simple solution-- the bus driver should have kept driving to her next scheduled stop. Once the bus was in motion there'd be no threat of any physical contact, and she probably would have let the student off as well (as opposed to a random street). Meanwhile if students are upset about the bus driver's behavior, they can make phone calls and the videotape could be sorted out afterwards.
- ChristianMagic, on 02/25/2008, -4/+1"I'm a liberal 20 yr old."
No. No you aren't.
- AngelBunny, on 02/24/2008, -2/+1what would you have done if you where trying to get off of the buss then?
- diggimator, on 02/24/2008, -2/+2The thing is, I don't buy the statement that she's not allowed to get off the bus, since she could have easily not got on that bus that day in the first place. If, however, that hypothesis was true, the bus driver could have simply used words to explain that she wasn't allowed to let anyone off the bus as opposed to sending the wrong message by getting physical with the minor.
- logandurand, on 02/24/2008, -15/+2Yes, damn her for thinking she was entitled to not be treated like a prisoner. Who is she to try and leave the prison bus?

- chinpo, on 02/24/2008, -0/+9Yea, I'm currently in high school and I sure as hell know I'd be doing as much as possible to add the mayhem in a situation like that :D
- krizzle, on 02/24/2008, -42/+172I think its pretty obvious that the Bus driver's daughter had told her mom that she didn't like this girl. The girl probably bad mouthed the driver a lot, hence the drivers comment along the lines of "its clear you don't appreciate this ride, why don't you find another way to school". So when the girl broke a rule(talking on cell phone? loudly?), the bus driver decided to use that opportunity to try and embarrass the kid. Asking the kid "why are you on this bus?" was obviously just an attempt to begin insulting her. So the kid rightfully believes she should get off the bus, having the bus driver telling her she shouldn't be on it..Why continue taking verbal abuse at that point, the bus driver wasn't attempting to solve anything.
I think the girl was pretty courageous in how she stood up for herself. She remained pretty calm in the face of the drivers poor logic. Obviously the driver had to keep the kid on the bus for legal reasons, but I think its pretty clear she was too physical. There was no need to restrain the kid, if the kids breaks out of the bus, all the driver can do is call the authorities. Taking the kids phone and throwing it, while the kids mom was on the line, could only aggravate the situation. She should have let the kid speak to her mom on the phone, surely the mom would have calmed her down.
It escalates when kids tell the girl to get her phone, so she goes for it and then the bus driver grabs her. The girl then grabs onto the bus driver and they wrassle a bit. The drivers daughter runs up and pushes the girls head down and grabs onto her hair, and the driver continues to hold onto the girls clothes. I thought it was kind of odd the Driver didn't tell her daughter to back up, which lends to the idea that the driver thought of this as the daughters fight too. Eventually some parents or police begin approaching the bus, and this is when everyone decides to bail out, and even the driver gives up on holding the girl. At the end some girl who is a social outcast ( Also not big fan of the pretty popular girl?) walks up and adds her support. You can hear her ask the Driver "are you glad she( the drivers daughter) stepped in?" and the bus driver responds with something like " I was wondering when you would..if if they were treating my mom like this..." . Although I don't mind the daughter stepping in ( you can see the adrenaline pumping in her eyes), the Driver could have done a lot more to prevent the situation. I think its pretty obvious that the Driver/MOM didn't like this girl, and was acting out of emotion, not procedure. You can also hear the bus driver throw down her radio. Was it really necessary to stop the bus and confront this kid with irrational questions--probably as a cover for getting revenge for her daughter--, or should she have continued driving and endured the kids "TALKING". I think if you really look at the situation, the driver was at fault. Giving the Driver and her daughter aggravated assault charges seems perfectly fair to me.- ligyron, on 02/24/2008, -8/+6It's no use to speak logic with someone that's filled with emotion. Best thing to do would probably be to warn the kid about her rights, and allow her to get off the bus if necessary. Calling the cops wasn't necessary
- blackinthmiddle, on 02/24/2008, -4/+28Actually, calling the cops was completely necessary. If the girl gets off the bus and runs into trouble later on, it's the driver's fault. Nobody wants to hear, "Well, she was determined to get off the bus and I just let her go. I mean, look how big she is. I couldn't stop her." A bus driver's job is to do one thing and one thing only; drop the kids of at the designated location. Anything else is something that goes on their record and most times will get them fired.
The driver obviously brought some of the trouble on to herself. However, in the end, if she just let the girl off the bus she might as well hand in her pink slip. And if the girl got off the bus then got hurt or worse, the school would be writing a big fat check to the family. - logandurand, on 02/24/2008, -10/+4@blackinthemiddle: If the girl runs into trouble later on, it's her fault and her fault only. If the girl wants to get off, let her off and be done with it.
- giveer, on 02/24/2008, -1/+8And if social justice and the legal system were actually that simple, you'd be completely correct. But it's not, so you're not.
- LucasJ218, on 02/24/2008, -1/+6Wrong. This wasn't public transportation. It was a middle/high school bus meant for shuttling students to destinations. After she's dropped off at the designated area, you're right - it's not the drivers problem anymore. Getting off before that? That's a serious issue. That being said, driver was a dumb ***** and should have let the girl off the bus after calling the cops/discussing it with the school, which it obviously - as do all school buses, had a direct line to.

- LeeSoong, on 02/24/2008, -12/+3If the girl thought the bus driver was picking a fight - then just tell the woman 'do not speak to me.' over and over again until the bus driver got tired of hearing it.
Just because someone starts talking at you, does not mean they automatically have permission to talk to you.
'Do not speak to me. I do not give you permission to talk to me. You do not have consent to talk to me. Do Not Talk to me.'
- It is a reasonable thing to do and puts YOU in the clear if the other person continues attempting to pull you in a fight. And in a situation like this - if the girl did that, and then the bus driver walked up to her and got in her face, it would be a lot more clear that that bus driver was over reacting.
For what little bus drivers get paid - you wonder is it worth the aggravation ? - Locke2053, on 02/24/2008, -7/+5Do you analyze the Jerry Springer show with such detail?
- d03boy, on 02/24/2008, -0/+5jerry springer is a show of irresponsible adults vs irresponsible adults. This is a video of immature adolescents who can't be expected to act right in this situation vs a bus driver who handled the situation poorly

- 11b1p, on 02/24/2008, -8/+1I think you probably ride the bus to school.
- LeeSoong, on 02/24/2008, -22/+14School Bus Drivers need that 'Silent Alarm' button to call the cops - and
Taser criminals who assault bus drivers.
School bus drivers are responsible for the lives and safety of the students on their bus -
they can not just drop them off at any old location - if the kid doesn't make it home,
it is the bus driver who is held responsible.
Criminals should get federal time for interfering with school bus drivers, even if
just because they are holding up the other 50 students !
Interfering with a public transportation driver is a felony, because of the danger
it poses to all the other people on the bus - school bus or public transportation bus.
'Respect Ma Authorita !'- blackinthmiddle, on 02/24/2008, -5/+13I have to agree with you. Even though the driver brought some of the trouble on herself, the girl handled things poorly.
About 10 years ago I was returning from a business trip. Chicago to New York. We were just about ready to take off when the turbines started shutting down. The pilot informed us that there was thunderstorms approaching NY and they had to wait on the runway...for an hour. 45 minutes later, same thing, another hour! A guy behind me is bitching. He's called NY and his people are like, "What are you talking about? It's sunny here." He's bitching and bitching and starts grabbing at the stewardesses!
The pilot comes swaggering out but the man jumps in his face. "GET ME OFF OF THIS PLANE *NOW*!" The pilot just looks at him for about three seconds and walks off with a look that says, "Alright, I'll fix you good." To make an incredibly long story not so long, we taxied back to the runway and he was arrested. This was on a Friday and he probably wouldn't have seen a judge until monday, according to a lawyer on the plane. Apparently, it's a federal violation to mess with the operations of an airplane and this was before 9/11.- logandurand, on 02/24/2008, -5/+2He has every right to leave a plane sitting on the ground, even if he must use force to get out.

- gh0st3000, on 02/24/2008, -0/+1The bus driver would have been fired on the spot no matter what her excuse was, then would probably be sued for a great deal of money. A tape like this would have done nothing for her defense.

- ExSlashdotter, on 02/24/2008, -0/+31Agreed. As a motorcyclist, I can assure you that without wearing leathers, a spill onto the street at 25mph is going to result in some nice bruising and a fair amount of road rash.

- archer104, on 02/24/2008, -1/+23Or if they started at the front of the bus, ran to the back and dove head first out of the last side window. Then they would front flip and just kinda "tap" the ground with their feet and do another flip and then roll into some grass or preferably Arizona clay. Only then could it work. Did I mention that they're wearing riot gear?
- bbardlbradd, on 02/24/2008, -1/+3A jump at 25mph or kmph from a 4, maybe 5 foot emergency exit would teach them a lesson.

- jsmith39, on 02/24/2008, -1/+30the more likely story is his cousin and friend were being pricks, and weren't allowed off the bus. They opened the rear exit door which caused the alarm to go off, the bus driver slammed on the brakes bringing the bus to 0mpg/kph and the two of them jumped off. At this point they were scared to death about getting caught, ran like little bitches until they were out of breath and then a few hours later talked the experience up to a younger/more gullible cousin.

- Mist0r_Wiggles, on 02/24/2008, -2/+8you thought that was crazy? Let me tell you a story.
I am a Chinese Immigrant. I came to America in 1997, I was 8 at the time. My first elementary school in America was Parkmont Elementary in Fremont, California. I barely spoke English back then and both of my parents worked to support me, so I had to ride the bus everyday, or that's what my parents thought. My bus driver was a Racist, he was in his mid 40s with a beer belly. The first time I got on the bus he looked at me and and smirked, at the time I didn't take it to heart. May I remind you I was in the 2nd grade at the time. The second time when there was no yard duty present at the bus stop, he looked at with and yelled, "get your chink ass the ***** off my bus!" At the time I didn't know what that meant, but I swore to God I shall not forget those words till the day I die. Of course at the time, I didn't know what he meant, I mean it was like my 3rd week in America. "what the ***** is a chink?" I thought, well not really. I was thinking in Chinese, and I don't know how to say ***** in Chinese either, so...anyways back to the story. I just gave him a blank look, and very scared blank look, so he "picked me up" and threw me out of the bus. No joke. At the time this guy looked HUGE. He was a bit taller than my Dad, but at least 4 times fatter. So I kept quiet about it, what was I going to do, explain this ***** to an English speaking teacher in Chinese...right. I was thinking about telling my parents but they were always working late every day and I didn't want them to worry about me anymore than they have to. So from that day on I had to see if the yard duty was at the bus stop every day after school. If she was not there or there was no other grown ups present, I would ask my other Asian friend Davis Kim to get a ride home, even though he was Korean and couldn't understand me at all, he sort of knew what I meant when I ask for a ride home, and his mom was also glad to drop me off at my house. He later on became addicted to Meth, and well...that's another story. So back then I would rip out the buss ticket and throw it away whenever I get a ride from Davis.
Now I'm 5'11 2 time varsity football player, weighing in a buck 95. outside LB. Currently getting my BS at CSUEB, and if I ever see that *****, I would pick his ass... ... actually I don't think I can do that to his fat ass, but I still kick his ass

- stackered, on 02/24/2008, -1/+69Thats exactly what I was thinking. Kids figured out to do this in my school around 5th grade every time the driver stopped to yell at someone.
- SeaMowse, on 02/24/2008, -17/+1That's the best thing to do - so the parent knows that the kid was in a confrontational situation and could perhaps tell the kid what to do/what not to do. And so that it wouldn't get to be a 'he said, she said' scenario, or a situation where things get exaggerated, or things that are untrue get reported. She did the right thing. Although she was mouthy, she did the right thing when she called her mom.
- highstriker, on 02/24/2008, -5/+7Honestly- I can't blame the girl. For one, she did seem to be trying to get the driver to just let her off, and possibly talk the situation out- it didn't work that way because the driver got physical, and once that happened, everyone was probably more focused on the escalating argument/fight to think about actually getting off the bus. Not to mention that the girl had her cell phone thrown off somewhere where she couldn't get it, and honestly- I wouldn't have wanted to leave it there, just so that I could have it once I was off the bus so I could explain what happened to my parents.
- NoStoppingUs, on 02/24/2008, -3/+2the driver first asks her why she is even on the bus. clearly, she wasn't supposed to be on it in the first place. what the hell is wrong with you people? its like your ideal world is lord of the flies

- crossmr, on 02/24/2008, -0/+3"she did seem to be trying to get the driver to just let her off, and possibly talk the situation"
The driver didn't have any ability to do that and keep her job. When I was a student we were well informed of this, I can't imagine she wasn't.- highstriker, on 02/24/2008, -1/+3Well, for one the driver shouldn't have stopped the bus in the first place. I saw quite a few kids get reprimanded while on the bus, but I never had the driver stop before reaching the destination. I really think the driver should have waited, held her temper (after all, she is the adult), and waited to reprimand the girl at her stop. Then all problems like this could have easily been avoided since the girl could have legally gotten off the bus, no problem. And if the problem continued, then the driver could have contacted someone at the school, likely the principal, as well as the parents.
I think the driver made some bad judgment calls, and unfortunately, it'll probably end up costing her her job. - crossmr, on 02/24/2008, -0/+1The girl wasn't supposed to be on that bus, it wasn't her regular bus so she didn't have a regular stop. That's the reason she stopped. When I was young we also had to have notes from our parents if we were under a certain age and wanted to get on our non-regular bus.
- highstriker, on 02/24/2008, -1/+3Well, for one the driver shouldn't have stopped the bus in the first place. - ahoyhoy, on 02/24/2008, -2/+2In my school they would probably suspend you from using the Bus if you pulled something like that.
- screamthenrun, on 02/24/2008, -1/+29i was thinking that in the middle of the video... but i didnt realize that they make buses w/o the emergency exit in the back, so i thought there wasnt one until everyone got off the bus
- SeaMowse, on 02/24/2008, -0/+16I think that kids, being kids, were riveted on what was taking place. I know I would be. If things were to be super violent, I'm sure the kids would've bolted from the bus, using the emergency exit.
- DeviateSeptum, on 02/24/2008, -20/+13First off, a minor scuffle on a bus isn't such a big deal that the whole bus needs to use the emergency exit. Second, the girl should not have been trying to leave the bus, period. She should have listened when she was told to sit down and waited for whoever was coming.
- stevealford, on 02/24/2008, -21/+23You have no idea why she needed to leave the bus in the first place, therefor you have no right to say she "should not have been trying to leave the bus, period." Would you prefer your child to obey authority no matter what the situation? If the driver was enough of a bitch to throw the girl's phone instead of explaining the situation to the mother, then maybe the girl was the more "adult" of the two.
Frankly, if that was my sister or one day, daughter (I'm only 27), I'd support every move she made in this video and applaud her restraint for not going off the first time the driver wouldn't let her have her phone back. She tried to calmly avoid the problem and leave the bus, but the driver took the conflict way too far... all she had to do was say "If you leave the bus, your bus privaleges will be suspended for the rest of the year" and then let the girl leave the bus or stay... and yes, bus drivers have that authority, so there was ZERO call for this conflict. None of this had to happen, and I blame the driver more than the girl, though the girl gets SOME blame.- popfrogs, on 02/24/2008, -22/+11That girl was a ***** *****, I for one am glad the bus driver put the smack down on her. The situation had nothing to do with her to begin with. I also applaud ugly bus driver's ugly daughter for stepping up, albeit a little late.
- xptoast, on 02/24/2008, -17/+12If you would allow your daughter to act like a total idiot then I hope you get your nuts smashed in a vise and become sterile. Stay out of my gene pool.
- shaelen, on 02/24/2008, -6/+14If you listen to the start of the video, the driver is asking the girl why she's on the bus since she shouldn't have been on the bus in the first place. I also believe that the bus driver is legally bound to not let students off at random places.. There'd probably be a suit against the driver if she had let the girl off the bus. The driver was just trying to follow the rules placed on her. Don't you think she would have let the girl off the bus to avoid confrontation if she felt she could?
- threemagic, on 02/24/2008, -2/+10So you'd advocate this sort of thing? The kids see this and then all of a sudden they all have emergencies and get off the bus in areas they aren't supposed to. It's the bus drivers responsibility to deliver the children to the destination they are supposed to go... PERIOD.
- highstriker, on 02/24/2008, -2/+2@popfrogs- Your comment just makes me sad. The only thing the driver's daughter did was make the confrontation more personal, and she made the situation escalate as far as it did. She definitely did nothing to help the situation- she just made it far worse than it would have been otherwise. Had she not stepped in, then no other students would have gotten involved either.
@shaelen- You're probably right about the legal part, but in the end the driver's actions resulted in everyone minus what- four students getting off the bus. Perhaps she could have actually explained that she couldn't let the student off the bus for legal reasons before getting physical with the girl. The situation was not handled well by the driver at all. - popfrogs, on 02/24/2008, -3/+1Wow, I was at +8 a few hours ago, I guess all the children showed up and made my comment and others like it -200.
- jwanderson, on 02/24/2008, -0/+10If it were me I would of remained seated and listened to the bus driver's logic on the rules.
However, If, like the girl, I had gotten up immediately and tried to walk out of the front of the bus, and had been physically restrained by the driver, I would have immediately walked to the back of the bus and gotten to ***** off through the emergency exit.
- DeviateSeptum, on 02/24/2008, -69/+146No. She shouldn't have. She should have sat the ***** down like she was told.
- FukUrCouch, on 02/24/2008, -69/+26Hey if you like being told what to do that's your choice. If they bus driver wants to ram his foot up your ass then i'm sure you would be glad to comply. Unless it's the police the bus driver doesn't have a right to hold or touch someone like that.
- mntbikeracer1, on 02/24/2008, -14/+50Sure you want to ride the bus at no cost, plus you want to be able to act like a dick, plus you don't want to get in trouble for acting like a dick, plus you don't want to take accountability for wasting everyone else's time. Dude crawl back in your hole.
- pands, on 02/24/2008, -37/+12Actualy the bus costs money, and she just wanted to get off the bus. And it was the bus driver wasting everyones time smartass.
- MonkeyFarts, on 02/24/2008, -8/+21No, it was the kid wasting everybody's time by being a spoiled little attention whoring brat. "Mom, the bus driver touuuched meeeee!" If that was my kid, I'd have her walking to school for the rest of the year.
- LeeSoong, on 02/24/2008, -0/+3by the look of a lot of those students,
they could use the walk,
and quite a few less Sweet Snack'en Cakes in their lunches.
Walking to school every day,
5 miles, in the snow, up hill both ways is what made their parents strong and proud to be Americans!
Lazy bus riders . . .grumble grumble...
- blackinthmiddle, on 02/24/2008, -3/+10So imagine this scenario. The mom's waiting at the bus stop for her kid, but the bus driver pulls up and says, "Your kid ain't on the bus. What? Where is she? How the hell should I know? She said she wanted to get off about three mile back. I just let her. Crazy bitch. Okay, see you later."
- expatcatalyst, on 02/24/2008, -1/+4That is exactly why America is going to Hell in a handbasket, no basic respect. Not for authority and just as little for each other. Although the world is changing at a quick pace, some things don't change. Basic respect for others is one.
- logandurand, on 02/24/2008, -2/+2It's a school bus, not a prison bus. If someone wants off, they get off, and they can use whatever force necessary to get out.
- JustFender, on 02/24/2008, -20/+30hypothetically, if i was to tell you to shut the ***** up right now, would you?
- popfrogs, on 02/24/2008, -14/+13If I was a kid on the school bus, and you were driving, yes.
- Bogus283, on 02/24/2008, -1/+0Your pants must be ablaze, sir, as you are most certainly a liar.
- Elliuotatar, on 02/24/2008, -20/+18You're an idiot. Who died and made the bus driver god?
- kraftey, on 02/24/2008, -5/+17It's against the law for the bus driver to let the girl off anywhere other than her designated stop. It sounds like the girl was not on the right bus. Legally, the bus driver is supposed to make the girl remain on the bus until they return to the school or the bus depot so that she can call whoever is on that girls file as the legal guardians. So the law made the bus driver god.
- Elliuotatar, on 02/24/2008, -5/+9The law is also charging the bus driver with assault. So she may mbe required not to ALLOW the girl to leave the bus, but clearly actively grabbing her to prevent her from leaving is illegal.
- avgeneral, on 02/24/2008, -3/+2but if she let her go then she gets fired. she has to stop her physically. holding her arms out is good enough that's not assault.
- twistymcgee, on 02/25/2008, -0/+1Basically, when it comes to dealing with kids they have complete control because you can't do anything without somehow screwing yourself. I could not be a bus driver.
- d03boy, on 02/24/2008, -0/+2If you use any sort of logic in your argument then you'd realize that an escalated situation ought to be dealt with differently than regular protocol.
- expatcatalyst, on 02/24/2008, -1/+1Uhhhhh, the school district. If she let her out just anywhere and the little disrespectful girl got hit by a car or pulled into a car and abducted or.....fill in the blank....the school district and her mom would be standing on the steps of the courthouse at the law suite.
- kraftey, on 02/24/2008, -5/+17It's against the law for the bus driver to let the girl off anywhere other than her designated stop. It sounds like the girl was not on the right bus. - Zaneris, on 02/24/2008, -14/+4Sheeple.
- jwanderson, on 02/24/2008, -5/+34Also, although I support the girl to a degree, she was definitely milking that opportunity to attempt to act tough and slick in front of the entire bus.
She would of looked a lot cooler if, after the initial conflict, she just walked to the back, popped the emergency lever and been like "Peace out assholz," and hopped off the back of the bus.- sean9812, on 02/24/2008, -0/+10true dat
- PunkRampant, on 02/24/2008, -0/+2But then it wouldn't be such a great video anymore.

- NaziHatinChimp, on 02/24/2008, -40/+180Man ***** that girl. That bus driver has to maintain order. That girl was obviously a snob who thought she ruled the bus and that her mom who probably has a higher social status than the lowly bus driver would help get her special privledges. ***** that. If the bitch didn't want to be touched then she should've stayed in her seat. Was the bus driver giving her ***** when she was in her seat touching her? No she wasn't. What if another student wanted off the bus? What if there were piles of minors walking in the street because they all thought they were special? Guess who would lose there ***** job?
If you guessed the bus driver then you are correct. She probably could've cooled down a little bit but guess what? The state doesn't pay for extensive behavior training for punk kids. I recommend you being in her shoes when about a handfull of kids are about to go mutiny on your ass and you tell me not to restrain the girl who is trying to make you lose your job.- Jalh, on 02/24/2008, -8/+33agree with you.
- stackered, on 02/24/2008, -59/+16Worst. Argument. Ever. It's not the driver's right to touch anybody else, take away their phone, or assault them as she did. She obviously couldn't maintain order, thats an obvious but it is ignorant of you to assume the girl thought she was of a "higher social status" because there is no evidence of that in the video.
- NaziHatinChimp, on 02/24/2008, -7/+49Dude if you got home and your kids weren't there and someone told you it was because the bus driver let her off in the middle of the road and stayed to watch the other kids while her ignorant teen ass wandered off into oblivion you would be livid. And rightfully so. You couldn't blame the kid, she is a minor. Unless that girl was 18 she doesn't have the right to do what she did.
- threemagic, on 02/24/2008, -3/+6Not to mention every other kid would see that this was now acceptable and all of them would ask to get off in random places.
- FukUrCouch, on 02/24/2008, -36/+4You know we have cell phones these days. She could have her mom to tell her where she was at anytime. If she is 18 the bus driver doesn't have the right to do what she did either.
- Ajajadude, on 02/24/2008, -1/+30The bus driver is responsible for the safety of those children while they are on her bus. She cannot drop those kids off wherever they want, when they want. At the school system I was in, you couldn't get on a bus you weren't supposed to be on without written permission until you were in high school. You also couldn't get off the bus where you weren't supposed without written permission, again, until high school. Even then, the bus driver would ask you why you were getting on their bus and where you were going to get off.
The driver is the adult. That girl and the rest of those kids are just children. The driver did the right thing in calling for "backup" and keeping that annoying bitch on the bus.

- Ajajadude, on 02/24/2008, -1/+23Trust me. No kid has a $300 phone (at least it looked just like a $300 phone my friend has) and acts like she's special and doesn't have parents from a "higher social" status. I live in a town full of these annoying pricks who think they're above everyone and can do whatever they want. They act like this because mommy and daddy give them everything they want and tell them no one can tell them what to do.

- PatNolan, on 02/24/2008, -49/+7Once again, dumbass, the bus driver's job isn't to maintain order - it's to drive the goddamn bus. Stackered is dead right in his response - I won't repeat it, just agree.
- Ajajadude, on 02/24/2008, -5/+23What, are you in junior high school? The bus driver is the adult authority figure since the bus is most likely part of the public system and that means she maintains order.

This entry contains information applicable to United States law only.
[Latin, In the place of a parent.] The legal doctrine under which an individual assumes parental rights, duties, and obligations.
http://www.answers.com/topic/in-loco-parentis
State employees put in charge of young people are legally required to act as if those were their own kids. A parent would not be expected to randomly dump off a child at any old location along the highway.
The bus driver could not back down, and the girl would not give up. Conflict.
The bus driver is attempting to obey the law, the girl is defying authority.
FOR THE SCHOOL DISTRICT! =
I would expect EVERY YEAR - student's go through mandatory 'Bus Training' with a 'Bus Release Form' signing.
1. Obey the Bus Driver
2. Follow the safety instructions.
3. Know how to use the emergency exits.
4. Sign this paper that states you received mandatory safety training and you agree to obey the bus driver and be bound by the terms of this paper.
Then at least the school would be able to say:
1. We gave the girl safety training, she was informed that she must obey the bus driver at all times, she understood she was not following the safety training, and here is the signed copy of the paper she received at the beginning of the year stating she would agree and abide to all the rules.
After that, they could work on expulsion procedures - Zero Tolerance for fighting with teachers or bus drivers.
If the student is not informed of the rules,
and if the rules training is not documented and kept on record,
then the school needs to update it's policies to protect itself
and to protect it's employees from misunderstandings and legal problems. - lex0nyc, on 02/24/2008, -1/+2Order is important. You'd have to be crazy to support individual freedom. This message brought to you by The Empire.
- PatNolan, on 02/24/2008, -0/+1The driver has no right to physically touch anybody. Also the driver has no right to vandalize a student's property. The driver is the one that escalated this into a physical confrontation by continually pushing, hitting and touching the student. There is no possible way the driver is right -- and it has nothing to do with why the driver was talking to the student in the first place.

- zeusthemoose, on 02/24/2008, -4/+16Clearly you are just a child. One day you will grow up and realize that its the bus drivers job to maintain order over the little children. I remember back when I was around that girls age and I had the exact same attitude that I had all these "rights". Thats *****, its the job of the adults to keep your ass in line and if you try to force your way through the bus driver you will be forced back and rightfully so.
- lex0nyc, on 02/24/2008, -3/+2The bus driver's right to refuse to speak to another adult who could calm the child down and instead throw the $300 phone?
- kreneskyp, on 02/24/2008, -5/+3it is not the job of adults to keep *other* peoples children in line. I'm a parent and i'm in no way going to spend my time disciplining someone else's little brat. And even if my son turns out to be a brat you damn well better keep your hands off him. Not only is it not your job but you don't have any right to touch them.
The driver is responsible for the children but she does not have any right to hit or touch any of the children. She should have just stood in front of the door latch and let the girl whine till help came.
- Ajajadude, on 02/24/2008, -5/+23What, are you in junior high school? The bus driver is the adult authority figure since the bus is most likely part of the public system and that means she maintains order.
- SeaMowse, on 02/24/2008, -21/+12At the same time, I saw a video clip from a local news report where this took place. The mother of the girl was interviewed, and said that this bus driver was constantly pulling the bus over, telling kids to stop talking. It wasn't like this was the first time she did something like this. It was almost a daily thing with her.
- NaziHatinChimp, on 02/24/2008, -10/+16Then fire the bus driver. Don't punish every bus driver.
- sgtbutterscotch, on 02/24/2008, -1/+14Don't think anyone said anything about other bus drivers.
- Ajajadude, on 02/24/2008, -5/+27Oh, well, if the girl's mom said so!
- popfrogs, on 02/24/2008, -7/+19I feel sorry for this bus driver. Evidently she has a bus full of self-entitled jerks and feels it's necessary to keep stopping to maintain order. Ultimately, the kids acting up like this = parental failure.
- LeeSoong, on 02/24/2008, -0/+1If kids are acting up and it makes it dangerous to drive the bus,
the school bus driver is REQUIRED to pull over.
Kids running around, fighting, throwing things, everybody talking way too loud, etc.
Honestly, sometime the students need to think about that 1 human being who holds their lives in the balance, trying to manuver a huge bus through crowded residential streets.
What's bad is when the 'special' kids on the short bus are much more well behaved than the regular students...
- LeeSoong, on 02/24/2008, -0/+1If kids are acting up and it makes it dangerous to drive the bus,
- NaziHatinChimp, on 02/24/2008, -10/+16Then fire the bus driver. Don't punish every bus driver.
- cryptomystic, on 02/24/2008, -3/+1A bus driver's job is to drive the bus not maintain order, that's for the teachers and cops so I don't know why stackered and patnolan are getting dugg down and Nazihatinchimp is getting dugg up. What right does the driver have to touch a student and force them to stay on the bus? That's why there is a camera on the bus, let the brat get off the bus and let her deal with the consequences of her actions later by her parents and the school.
- stackered, on 02/24/2008, -19/+53The funniest part was that she was like: "Thank God we got it on tape" since the tape only showed her completely at fault.
- fajitamelt, on 02/24/2008, -3/+11The two girls are ***** idiots, I'm literally shaking after watching this because I want to punch almost every one of those kids until they have no face. I want to meet the last few kids who stayed on the bus and shake their hands, because they are a rare kind of children these days.
- neptunebk, on 02/24/2008, -0/+10Its a good way to show intelligence level of America. Those 3 that stayed back are the 3% of America that have a decent education. While the other 97% were stupid.
- fajitamelt, on 02/24/2008, -0/+3Actually, it has nothing to do with education at all. It has to do with the kind of person you are. Common sense and obedience can not always be taught in school.
- neptunebk, on 02/24/2008, -0/+2True, but those 97% were sheep.
- LeeSoong, on 02/24/2008, -1/+2It was sad to see only ONE girl have compassion for the injured bus driver,
and check on her injuries.
Future Nurse or Doctor ?
Give that girl a scholarship to medical school.

- biotch, on 02/24/2008, -0/+9I think its pretty obvious the kid was at fault
The bus driver did her job trying to keep that brat on the bus. She is not allowed to leave unless they are at a designated stop. Its a rule because otherwise kids get hit by cars. And its much easier than youd think. Cars pass buses in a hurry without thinking. All that kid had to do was sit down for a sec and be quiet till the driver could drive over and stop at the right place. But noooooo she had to get all pissed off about something she doesnt understand and make a big deal about everything the bus driver tried to do to stop her. The kid and her arrogant attitude were obviously at fault for the disorder.
- fajitamelt, on 02/24/2008, -3/+11The two girls are ***** idiots, I'm literally shaking after watching this because I want to punch almost every one of those kids until they have no face. - DeviateSeptum, on 02/24/2008, -13/+100The busdriver in responsible for her and had to prevent her from leaving. She was clearly following some procedure for students not authorized to ride the bus. Suppose she gets off the bus and something happens to her? Then what? Then the school district catches hell. The girl was just a plain spoiled bitch.
- neptunebk, on 02/24/2008, -3/+22Thats what I was thinking. The bus driver had to follow a certain guideline to let the students off only at the indicated bus stop.
- Willravel, on 02/24/2008, -22/+6Legally, the bus driver cannot detain a student after school hours. That overrides any guidelines.
- zeusthemoose, on 02/24/2008, -5/+9Wrong, the bus driver can detain a student if they try to get off the bus at a stop that is not theirs. If the kid gets off and somehow dies, the bus driver would be to blame. They must do everything possible, including the use of force, to keep a student on the bus.
- mrhyperpenguin, on 02/24/2008, -5/+1"If the kid gets off and somehow dies, the bus driver would be to blame." - zesusthemosse
Well, didn't a bus load of kids just get off the bus? I think losing one kid is better than losing a bus full of kids. - LeeSoong, on 02/24/2008, -0/+1The continuum of force seemed appropriate.
1. The bus driver questioned the student
2. The bus driver told the student what to do.
3. The bus driver blocked the student with her own body.
4. The bus driver pushed the student back.
5. The bus driver called for back up.
The taking the phone and tossing it on the floor thing was a little over the top, but a phone can be seen as a weapon in a conflict situation.
(If you ever are pulled over by police and your phone rings,
don't suddenly reach in your jacket thinking that's ok.
bad. idea.)
If it were two males going head to head - they would have come to close fisted fighting, most likely...

- Nitrodist88, on 02/24/2008, -0/+2Once you get on the bus, it's a different story.
- duke, on 02/24/2008, -0/+1@ Willravel, Might be a convincing argument if you knew what the hell you're talking about. Schools detain kids all the time - it's called DETENTION. The school district has more immunity from lawsuits than you can imagine. In fact, letting the kid off where not authorized is one of the exceptions to that immunity, under the doctrine of "state created danger". Go learn some law before you go telling people what the law is.
- zeusthemoose, on 02/24/2008, -5/+9Wrong, the bus driver can detain a student if they try to get off the bus at a stop that is not theirs. - Criftus, on 02/24/2008, -4/+12You're absolutely right. These drivers can't just be dropping kids off whenever or wherever they want. They're responsible for the safety of the students and was following the policies and procedures set up with the school board when there's an unknown student aboard. It's a tough situation for the driver, so I sympathize. That girl was completely out of line.
- fajitamelt, on 02/24/2008, -0/+0Not out of line, "why can't ypu just kill yourself we don't like your bitchy attitude" out of line.
- Hawk2007, on 02/24/2008, -0/+2If she let the girl off the bus, she more than likely would have lost her job for not following district rules and not "being a responsible adult".
- thmnetwork, on 02/26/2008, -0/+0well but if the alternative is to kidnap the girl essentially, I think I'd rather say "let's revisit the policy" but we should remember this all started with her complaining.
- omgwhereami, on 02/24/2008, -9/+4I remember kids getting kicked OFF the bus for acting up. Not being forcefully restrained. The kid was old enough to walk home, had a cell phone, and appeared to be trying to get off with a friend. I know they aren't allowed to kick you off in the middle of nowhere (though I've see it done) I know they can give your ass the boot at any designated bus stop on their route (given to every parent) and they have a radio to call back to tell their boss they kicked a kid off and their parent/police needs to get them. Regardless of whatever their school policy is the driver should have just done her job (ie drive from bus stop to bus stop). Standing in the kids way of the already locked door was pointless and stupid, as was taking the phone. People may think me an ***** for saying this but I can't feel sorry for the driver. Bitching about a kids behavior on a bus is like a kid working at burger king bitching about making hamburgers. She knew what she was getting into when she CHOSE the job. The kid on the other hand had little choice (apparently) in riding the bus and when she tried to exercise some basic level of control in her life she was met with this.
- darkecho, on 02/24/2008, -1/+2"I know they can give your ass the boot at any designated bus stop on their route (given to every parent) and they have a radio to call back to tell their boss they kicked a kid off and their parent/police needs to get them."
Actually (from what I have been told), the school system is responsible for the kids until they get to the assigned destination. If the bus driver kicks the kid off the bus and the kid gets kidnapped. The school system would get in trouble (along with the kidnapper, but not as severe).
- darkecho, on 02/24/2008, -1/+2"I know they can give your ass the boot at any designated bus stop on their route (given to every parent) and they have a radio to call back to tell their boss they kicked a kid off and their parent/police needs to get them."
- DigiRaven, on 02/24/2008, -3/+9Should have never touched her? Now see here is the problem how our new global idiocracy is now spreading. You allow these snot nose kids have to much freedom on school grounds and you began to see the chain of command to break down. That bus driver should have every right to slap that kid across the face and call the police to escort her off the bus if she does not comply.
- kreneskyp, on 02/24/2008, -4/+3she does have the right to call the police, and she should have before hitting her. As a parent in no way will i ever give someone else the authority to hit or otherwise harm my child.
- biotch, on 02/24/2008, -0/+2What if your child is trying to walk into moving traffic and the hitting keeps him/her from doing it?
- logandurand, on 02/24/2008, -1/+1@biotch: You let them get off the bus - whatever happens to them happens and it isn't the school district's fault.
- DigiRaven, on 04/01/2008, -0/+1Yes she does that right to slap her. She endangered the situation and the school bus driver is in charge. Kid should have been expelled from school. Dont give those snot nose kids an inch.
- fajitamelt, on 02/24/2008, -0/+1Couldn't have said it better myself.
- kreneskyp, on 02/24/2008, -4/+3she does have the right to call the police, and she should have before hitting her. As a parent in no way will i ever give someone else the authority to hit or otherwise harm my child.
- murf1000, on 02/28/2008, -0/+1Because the girl was mortally wounded from the first one, right?
