No but they can destroy the Republican party at the polls and begin the process of cleaning the trash out.
Here's to counting the days till Bush is removed. - ArchieAndrews, on 10/12/2007, -23/+184pls add:

- LosingTheFight, on 10/12/2007, -9/+134As a Soldier, I must admit I am pleased to see this news. Now maybe we can remove some of the corruption in the administration and begin to heal from the deep wounds he and Bush have caused.

Jesus christ its already updated! It happened nine seconds ago!? - dawgma, on 10/12/2007, -15/+113I heard it on CNN and wanted to submit the story, but couldn't find a link anywhere! Damn you're fast. Literally 1 minute after it was confirmed...
Anyway... this is fan-*****-tastic. Can we prosecute the bugger now? - LosingTheFight, on 10/12/2007, -4/+96@n8r0n
First off, as a Soldier and not an officer, I have every right to speak out against my commander in chief. As long as I follow the orders of my superiors, it's fine. Having deployed to Afghanistan and spent the past THREE YEARS overseas, I have every right, no, a duty to point out the misinformation my leaders and I have had to endure. I support my commander in chief (who, by the way, is NOT RUMSFIELD but the President) by following orders. But it is my duty to question illegal or immoral orders. - blackkbot, on 10/12/2007, -10/+100Aw man and I was just starting to like that guy. He always made sure The Daily Show had good material.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+93* DonaldRumsfeld has disconnected.

good riddance. - Dopamini, on 10/12/2007, -8/+86Sad thing is that he wouldn't have resigned if the GOP was still in control.
- n8r0n, on 10/12/2007, -4/+75Here is a little info on his successor...

Everyone in my office right now is having a field day with this election. I might even get to go home because everyone wants to go celebrate...
Hmmm. Getting wasted on a Tuesday to celebrate the resignation of Rumsfeld/Democratic rule in the House/Santorum losing his senate seat.
ITS A GOOD DAY FOR ME DAMNIT! - konspence, on 10/12/2007, -13/+82This is BIG news.
And to think the elections were good news. - ScornForSega, on 10/12/2007, -13/+77Say it with me everyone:

Again, read above. The Uniformed Code of Military Justice states that OFFICERs are not allowed to speak out against the President. NCO's and Junior Enlisted are. The reasons behind this are many and complex, but basically an officer gives orders while NCOs execute. An NCO is REQUIRED BY LAW to question any order that is wrong, immoral, or illegal which is why the enlisted Soldiers were prosecuted in Guantanamo Bay even though they were "just following orders". I do not regret my time in service or overseas. I serve my country and do what I am told. But it's not right to simply sit by while an unjust war is fought. Why did we invade Iraq? WMD? None. Taliban ties? Negligent. He realizes he was wrong and is stepping down. End of story.
PS: Never question my loyalty to my country, dedication to duty, or pride in service again. - Easty, on 10/12/2007, -5/+57n8r0n:
Soldiers aren't allowed opinions now? - cantimolto, on 10/12/2007, -5/+54First Santorum and now Rumsfeld, this has been a great couple of days!
- drum_bum, on 10/12/2007, -5/+53Front Page in 7 min! Thats got to be a record.
Wow, to good news just doesn't stop coming! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+58Reserve your judgment until you see who replaces him.
My guess? Another crony. - shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -9/+53good riddance, but now we need to get rid of the guy that hired him in the first place.
- RadiantBeing, on 10/12/2007, -4/+48Now watch democracy in action. In every low period of American history, America always finds a way to bounce back stronger.

- jonathantneal, on 10/12/2007, -16/+50All I can say is "Merry Christmas Democrats" - so if the vote isn't contested in Virginia, you can't say Republicans didn't try to leave with some speck of dignity.
- Reno582, on 10/12/2007, -4/+38Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out Rumsfeld.
- curtissthompson, on 10/12/2007, -6/+40@piper999
Nancy Pelosi is taking impeachment of bush off the table...so don't expect removal of bush to happen. Besides impeachment is only the process of removing from office, not the result...and 2 years isn't enough time to actually get him removed anyways. Besides if bush were removed from office, it would only be the next idiot in the line, which isn't any better - Stockwell, on 10/12/2007, -6/+37I have to admit it: Democracy is alive in the USofA. Thanks to a lot guys and girls like you.
Killer polls for the Republicans, Rumsfeld stepping down. Yes, there might a nice future again out there for all of us.
Make it a Satin Revolution folks!!!
Here's to you all,
Congrats!!!!! (from Belgium) - skoles, on 10/12/2007, -5/+37This can only mean something bad is about to become open to the public and by him voluntarily stepping down he can't be fully charged with whatever it is.
- bemenaker, on 10/12/2007, -4/+33Woohoo, that's a good start. In all reality, let's not waste time w/ an impeachment. Stall Bush for the next two years, and investigate the sh1t out of all of it. Make it all public record again, and let the public decide on it.
- ICSU, on 10/12/2007, -6/+33It'd be big news if he was going directly to prison for war crimes.
- jeffness, on 10/12/2007, -5/+31digg isn't quick; it's the people that keep this beast moving.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+32Same here, from cnn breaking to it making the front page on digg was less than 5 minutes. I'm totally amazed at digg's quickness.
President is speaking now on CNN about how great the democrats are and wanting to "do lunch". - aliengoods, on 10/12/2007, -5/+30The men decide the policy. Rumsfeld was central to that. So why shouldn't people who disagree attack the man as well as the policy?
- erkokite, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27Anyone else realize that this story is being dugg at a rate of about one digg per second?
- BinaryCortex, on 10/12/2007, -23/+47Looks like his karma ran over his dogma.
