- ani625, on 01/08/2009, -29/+207Israel, Hezbollah, Hamas.
I pick no one. - MedicalMatt, on 01/08/2009, -7/+142Guy finds Genie...
Genie grants one wish,
Guy wishes for highway from California to Hawaii..
Genie thinks for a minute and says, sorry that's not possible, What else?
Guy wishes for peace in the middle east,
Genie thinks for a minute and says, So... Do you want that as a two or four lane? - inactive, on 01/08/2009, -4/+107Put Jehovah's Witnesses on the border to keep the peace. Everyone would stay away.
- inactive, on 01/08/2009, -21/+116That is the best comment on the conflict.
This isn't Muslims VS Jews. This is facists VS facists with innocent people in the middle. - SuperMoses, on 01/08/2009, -13/+98The US is not silent. They're clearly supporting Israel, preventing the UN from acting on the Gaza crisis.
- BohicaTwentyTwo, on 01/08/2009, -9/+85Not Hezballah. Probably some pro-Hamas supporters unconnected to Hezballah hoping to drag them into their conflict. Technically, this could be considered a false flag attack.
- Whorebane, on 01/08/2009, -10/+83The land needs to be given back to those who were there in the first place, the Roman Empire.
- Hetman, on 01/08/2009, -9/+66You know the billions of dollars worth of military and foreign aid we give to israel could be a reason they pull us into messes like this.
- inactive, on 01/08/2009, -2/+58I think it should be given back to the dinosaurs. It's not fair we took it from them.
- ashes0, on 01/08/2009, -23/+76Why does everyone look to the U.S. to solve world problems? Why don't you Europeans do something since you're already over there?
Take care of yourselves for once. - inactive, on 01/08/2009, -18/+70But the fact nobody was killed makes it super ok. I mean.. so what if I fire off a few rounds at your head and miss or only take out your eye.. you didn't actually die!
- harlowsmonkeys, on 01/08/2009, -3/+52Europeans are quick to act. No one is faster than the Europeans at getting out a press release asking everyone to be nice.
- Barackalypse, on 01/08/2009, -12/+53Not if you're an oil producing nation, like say Iran, who happens to also be a rocket supplying nation to people like Hezbollah.

putting things in perspective as always. - Falldog, on 01/08/2009, -11/+50Hopefully the Lebanese authorities will take steps to prevent further rocket attacks, preventing the need for Israel to move in and defend itself again.
- yogurt777, on 01/08/2009, -17/+53"At least two people were slightly wounded and a number of others suffering from shock, Israeli officials said."
- inactive, on 01/08/2009, -33/+69You forgot to use the word ZIONIST to make your comment more believable.
- IneedaSN, on 01/09/2009, -10/+37"One medical team found 12 bodies in a shelled house, and alongside them four very young children, too weak to stand, waiting by their dead mothers, the ICRC said"
nuff said... - MalarkeyPN, on 01/08/2009, -1/+27No no, the Canaanites!
- pjosemroy, on 01/08/2009, -15/+41Both sides will exploit the US' transitional period silence.
- SkittlesUSA, on 01/08/2009, -13/+38I respect Ron Paul's opinions and agree with him on many things, but this is NOT "preemptive war."
Hamas fired over 3000 rockets into Israel in 2008 (yes 3000, I didn't accidentally add any zeros), even some during the ceasefire.
While I understand his opposition to the preemptive nature of the war in Iraq, to call this "preemptive war" is nothing short of being a pacifist. The fact that Hamas is the elected governing body does not leave any room for the argument that a state has no control over its terrorist activities.
Imagine if the governing body in Canada last year fired 3000 rockets into the United States, would we call that preemptive war? - decx, on 01/08/2009, -7/+32yes, what people often forget... you don't have to choose a side
that's not turd vs douche
sticking it to hamas doesnt make me a zionist
sticking it to israel doesnt make me an anitsemite - dkapuchino, on 01/08/2009, -9/+33UN peacekeepers in Lebanon were asked today who was behind the rocket attacks towards Israel, and what are they doing about it.
They hadn't an answer to either of the questions. - SkittlesUSA, on 01/08/2009, -8/+32Wow, certainly no speculation there "BochiaTwentyTwo."
Regardless, Lebanon is responsible for securing its borders; so if Lebanon cannot stop terrorist within its borders from attacking Israel, then Israel is within its right to retaliate. - randman89, on 01/08/2009, -9/+32Ah crap...
- LouBrown, on 01/08/2009, -7/+29Definitely!
Choose the people, those that do not fight, and that do not want a fight to be going on. - sanman, on 01/08/2009, -11/+33I wonder if Hezbollah is going to claim that they are "engaging in their right of resistance" against an Israel that isn't even occupying Lebanese territory?
- LouBrown, on 01/08/2009, -5/+27But then you would be in that room...
- blugill, on 01/08/2009, -6/+26I think that this conflict will never end. It is based on grievances thousands of years old. Neither side will give in but it just so happens that Israel is better armed and actually has the firepower to end this conflict.
Hamas seems content with firing close to homemade rockets and using effective pointy rocks. If they aren't a Darwin award candidate I don't know who would be.
So vote for Hamas Darwin Award 09!!!! - Kikinou, on 01/08/2009, -1/+20No no, the Roman Empire took it from someone before that, so they are the real victims here. Oh wait, those people took it from someone else before that, so...
- w3ber, on 01/08/2009, -6/+25@solid12345
UNITED NATIONS - The United States late Saturday blocked approval of a U.N. Security Council statement calling for an immediate cease-fire in the Gaza Strip and southern Israel and expressing concern at the escalation of violence between Israel and Hamas.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28484148/
they can't even make a statement because USA is calling for a "DURABLE" solution. I can agree with that point but until then ... a calling for cease-fire is a political statement that can't be easily ignored, puts things into perspective... I know in not much but is better than silence. - SkittlesUSA, on 01/08/2009, -6/+25What is your point?
I don't look at this situation and count how many people were injured, I recognize that one state violated the sovereignty of another, which is a serious crime against humanity despite the number of people injured. - noupsell, on 01/08/2009, -6/+25I mean in the context that some other entity is trying to further provoke an incident which could be used for propaganda purposes
- UnterDenLinden, on 01/08/2009, -0/+17So if I come by your house malarkey and start firing rounds everywhere, but don't hurt anyone, you wouldn't do anything because no-one is being harmed?
- SkittlesUSA, on 01/08/2009, -3/+21When a state violates the sovereignty of another state, it loses its own. Violating national sovereignty is a crime against humanity because if a state violates one nation's sovereignty, then that means EVERY state's sovereignty is compromised.
I care about human suffering, but I'm not a pacifist. I realize that the people elected Hamas in a democratic election fully understanding that this organization wished to destroy Israel. The people gave Hamas power fulling knowing what they would do with it, and that was a foolish decision that has consequences I cannot prevent.
Why do I care so much about the letter of the law? Because if the letter of the law were followed, there would be no need for human suffering. That's the difference between us. I want to stop the cause of war, you want to stop the effect. The latter is impossible without securing the former. Violating a state's sovereignty leads to war, and I cannot logically argue there will be or should be no consequence to this action. - jupaneanu, on 01/08/2009, -19/+36These guys make it very hard to pick sides
- Cl1mh4224rd, on 01/08/2009, -0/+16> "I wouldn't be surprised if it was American forces that fired rockets at Israel from Lebanon in a desperate Bush attempt to steal a third term."
That makes no ***** sense... - Wrangler76, on 01/09/2009, -9/+25It's funny because this only happens on certain articles. It's like the Israelis here just send each other certain articles to dig up and flood with pro-israel comments. Look at the Jon Stewart submission (hell knows how it got taken off FP fo quickly with so many diggs)... resounding disapproval of what Israel is doing. I guess the Israel bury brigade didn't get to that one quickly enough.
- Hetman, on 01/08/2009, -7/+23I am not taking sides. But the idea that if their is a war it has to be equal is absurd.
- dkapuchino, on 01/08/2009, -11/+26Kizilbash - which by the way is the name of an Radical Isalmic organization,
I seem to remember Hezbollah attacked the US marine barracks when they were stationed in Beirut.
I think paying Israel some money every year is better than having our troops over there, don't you?
Better pay Israel for its soldiers to die and protect our interests, than send our own.
Kind of like how Iran would rather send money to Hamas and Hezbollah so they can fight Israel, instead of fighting them themselves. - inactive, on 01/08/2009, -4/+19Are you kidding? Hezbollah has taken over Lebanon. Hezbollah calls the shots there now. Anyone that doesn't like it gets a bullet or a bomb.
- nickespinosa, on 01/08/2009, -20/+34So this means Lebanon is now part of Israel's "promised land" too now right?
Heaven forbid oppressed people don't just lay down and die, hand over their land, and accept a "peace treaty" that denies them the right to exist. - thebrettd, on 01/08/2009, -6/+20You cannot stop an underground resistance movement with military force....they will just go back underground.
- inactive, on 01/08/2009, -6/+20@ dkapuchino - Latest details now in: Lebanese missiles bearing telecommunications satellites were intercepted and destroyed by the Zionist settlement of Naharia, depriving Lebanese citizens of their ability to communicate with the outside world.
- Kikinou, on 01/08/2009, -4/+17Yes, this whole freedom speech thing , women's rights, gay rights thing, it's really a stain on the history of mankind. We should be more like the virtuous nations: perpetual victims, stone our homosexuals to death, and keep our women in walking tents.
- inactive, on 01/08/2009, -25/+38And where are all the usual people calling to cut Israel's defense budget back? hmm... maybe still in bed.
Anyhow, Hezbollah has been gifted some rather effective Chinese C-802 milles from Iran (along with the people to train them.. how nice). They used a combination of two kinds of missiles to hit the INS Hanit, an Israeli Sa'ar 5-class corvette off the coast of Lebanon.
These are no fireworks folks. 4 Navy were killed and the ship barely was able to return to port. - pintomp3, on 01/09/2009, -4/+16UN halts Gaza aid after Israel attack on workers
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090108/ap_on_re_mi_ea ...
Not the first time either:
Israeli bomb kills UN observers
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/5215366.stm - str1fe, on 01/09/2009, -1/+13I seem to remember the original joke being about understanding women's minds rather than peace in the middle east, but I guess it can be adapted however relevant.
- AbuAbdAllah, on 01/09/2009, -2/+14no, there's more:
"But the traditionally neutral ICRC accused Israel of failing to honour its obligations under international law to treat and evacuate the wounded in Gaza.
It said the Israeli military was in the neighbourhood and must have been aware of the incident involving the four starving children but did nothing to help.
'Neither did they make it possible for us or the Palestinian Red Crescent to assist the wounded,' the ICRC's Pierre Wettach said." -
