http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji5_MqicxSo - BadAndy80, on 07/25/2008, -0/+132I'm more sad than I thought I would be.
- Nothlit, on 07/25/2008, -3/+133I feel very fortunate to have been at Carnegie Mellon during this time and to have heard Randy speak at our commencement ceremony. He was an inspiration and will not be soon forgotten.
- Miamisun, on 07/25/2008, -0/+112Makes me a little sick to my stomach. I visit his website every day to check if there is a blog update on his fight or condition. I have checked every day since 6/26. Every day i did not see one i got a little more sad. I knew there was a reason for the lack of posts. I hope his family knows how many people he touched. Rest in Peace.

This is the site i would visit. - joeschmidt, on 07/25/2008, -6/+105Funny line from his last lecture video when talking about spirtuality & religion:
"... I will tell you that I have experienced a deathbed conversion... I just bought a macintosh."
Randy Pausch - great man, better teacher. - inactive, on 07/25/2008, -2/+81There is a fund setup in his honor at CMU, which can be found here:
http://www.cmu.edu/giving/pausch.shtml - 7fields, on 07/25/2008, -7/+82RIP.
- headzoo, on 07/25/2008, -2/+76I was still holding onto the hope that he would pull through. Damn.
- screamingjoker, on 07/25/2008, -11/+71Humbling. Thank you Prof. Pausch. See you on the other side.
- mbowersox, on 07/25/2008, -4/+61"We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand."
- Julolidine, on 07/25/2008, -1/+57Through tragedy the world was introduced to a great man. Its kind of a double edged sword because without him having cancer most of us here would have never heard about him. Condolences to his wife and three young kids. They will grow up without a great dad, but hopefully the legacy and the last lecture that he left behind will help them. I'm sure it will.
RIP Randy - inactive, on 07/25/2008, -0/+49Interesting how a terminal illness was able to grant him immortality. RIP
- boing11, on 07/25/2008, -2/+47Randy Pausch - great teacher, better man.
Fixed. - siong1987, on 07/25/2008, -3/+46As long as human is reading his book, he is still alive!
- jollyroger814, on 07/25/2008, -2/+43RIP Prof. Pausch. Thank you for giving myself and my girlfriend the courage to get through the issues she and her own family face with the same conditions and issues with her father.
- MillionsLivio, on 07/25/2008, -1/+38The Last Lecture really did encourage me further to follow my dream of film, he seemed like a really good guy. He at least had time to plan, say his goodbyes and come to terms with the issue, something most don't have the opportunity of. His death was not in vain, as I am sure he encouraged many others just like myself and really made an impact on their lives.
- 1gunners4, on 07/25/2008, -0/+36Randy already covered that possibility:
"Nope, can't happen: there isn't an actress beautiful enough to play my wife." - h4mx0r, on 07/25/2008, -4/+40Well played, Randy. RIP.
- ObamaWins08, on 07/25/2008, -2/+33He did his best to make the world a better place that when he came into it...
- jollyroger814, on 07/25/2008, -1/+31I just gave 10 dollars. It's not much, but it's what I can spare right now. I encourage everyone else to do the same in honor of someone you know who is sick from cancer.
- soccernamlak, on 07/25/2008, -0/+27Rest in Peace Mr. Pausch. You will be missed and not forgotten.
- sigmaman2, on 07/25/2008, -1/+28RIP Dr. Pausch.
The world is not worse because you are now gone.
The world is better, because you were here in the first place. - DickNickAllen, on 07/25/2008, -3/+25This guy was born to teach, and did so through it all. RIP.
- IveGotTheRuns, on 07/25/2008, -4/+25A true inspiration for generations to come. RIP.
- kingmanic, on 07/25/2008, -0/+21Your assumption is wrong. Many are tried, most are found to be as effective as the "placebo" effect. thus just as effective as me telling you you'll get better. If they found something effective they could slap "Pfizer Cancer-begone" onto a purified version and make billions.
You "alternative therapy" nuts need to understand the underlying biology. Cancer is when certain cells of the body replicate out of control and have the mutations to create supporting structures. Not that many natural agents can influence genetic structures, and those that do are often really really bad for you. Limiting the multiplication of these cells are hard as the only key differentiators between healthy cells and cancerous ones is the rate of reproduction and the mutations that caused them. Chemo does it by taking advantage of the fact that fast multiplying cells (Hair, Cancer, some others) die faster to toxic agents then slow multiplying cells (everything else).
There are "alternative" medicines that work. Chinese "medicine" works on a lifestyle preventative bases with small doses of things that reduce the amount of carcinogens in the body. They also have a lot of herbalism that have active components which are "drugs". many traditional societies have plant based drugs as well.
Medicinal plants exists. But there isn't a magic voodoo plant for every illness and the active compnents can be distilled into drugs.
Willow bark => aspirin.
PS> As much as I disagree with what onetimer says in general, in this case I think he's right. - ichunxo, on 07/25/2008, -0/+18I just said "Oh no..." out loud when I read the headline. Truly a sad day. RIP.
- sysoprock, on 07/25/2008, -2/+20Reaper got served.
RIP Randy - kingmanic, on 07/25/2008, -2/+19I see no irony, hypocrisy, or cognitive dissonance in the situation you pointed out. The reactions do contrast but they make logical sense. Someone stupid dies from a self inflicted reason, gets derision. Someone interesting, dies from a uncontrollable reason, gets respect.
- dha07030, on 07/25/2008, -1/+18Damn, tears welled in my eyes for a second. That is some powerful stuff. What a great man. I would be happy in my life if I accomplished half of want he did.
- kelvlam, on 07/25/2008, -0/+17You'll be dearly miss Randy. I read the news at work and almost brought me to tears...
"You can't control the cards you're dealt, just how you play the hand." -- Randy Pausch - jlachesk, on 07/25/2008, -0/+16I heard Professor Pausch speak those words at my commencement ceremony. I consider myself truly blessed to have had that opportunity.
That being said, for the first time in my life I am deeply saddened by the loss of a person I really didn't know. - kurupttek, on 07/25/2008, -1/+17This Man lived a great life and thought us a great lesson. This should be watched again and again.
RIP - darthashwin, on 07/25/2008, -9/+25RIP Randy. may u rest in peace
For you are at a better place - ZombieKiss, on 07/25/2008, -0/+15Yea... Good luck on seizing that opportunity with anyone.
- inactive, on 07/25/2008, -5/+20No serious medical professional tries those "medicinal plants" because they're unscientific new age ***** and if you think they can cure cancer you're a ***** idiot.
- xsecretfiles, on 07/25/2008, -3/+17I'll miss you. You truly inspired me :(
- DrunkCowOfDeath, on 07/25/2008, -2/+16I had the opportunity to take a class on the program he made, Alice. I took with one of the professor he work with at Carriage. Every class he would come in and talk about how Pausch was doing and how great of a guy he was. And while I completely destroyed Alice 2 with the Go Fish game I made, I still can't wait for Alice 3, I hope they can still finish it for him.
He will be missed. - caBoss, on 07/25/2008, -0/+13It's funny how things in life come together. I'm going to Carnegie-Mellon next year. I have read his book (one of the most inspiring books I have ever read). And a few hours after learning of his death, I received a copy of his book from Carnegie-Mellon in the mail. Every member of my class is receiving a copy from the University.
Randy Pausch played the hand he was dealt to perfection. Not only has he achieved his goal (to give his young children something to remember him by), but he also inspired millions to go out and achieve their own dreams.
Rest in Peace, Dr. Pausch. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family.
"An injured lion wants to know if he can still roar" - Randy Pausch - Bosoxmrkn, on 07/25/2008, -4/+17Nothing short of inspirational. I can only hope, that if I had to walk down a similar path, that I would react in the same manner he did.
- alkajazz, on 07/25/2008, -0/+13See yah later Randy, you were an inspiration to us all.
- markduyvesteyn, on 07/25/2008, -0/+13I logged in just to digg this. You where one inspiring man. RIP
- chocobomog, on 07/25/2008, -2/+14Thank you, Mr Pausch.
- Neuralphreak, on 07/25/2008, -0/+12Hundreds of Comments, normally I just move on ... This is different. This is personal, special, intimate and I never even had a chance to met him...I almost feel ashamed and selfish thinking I have any right to post about such a rare soul. I never knew of him prior to his lecture being viral on the net... it makes me weep to know how much of this special person the world missed ... those select few who were lucky enough to meet him, experience his gravity and wisdom, those closest to him must feel a great sense of peace now to know this man who's given more to the world in his short life than many of us here will in our whole lives.... is finally without pain.... now it's our turn to carry that pain... but more - carry the wisdom he passed to us, the courage he taught all of us...and the simple pleasure of enjoying the small stuff in life... each of us have been changed, for the better I think, having the chance to witness his last lecture...
- tidu, on 07/25/2008, -0/+12Check out the book on Amazon, it's a pretty good read. A few anecdotes from his life that really changed him and the people he came in contact with.
- 8ight, on 07/25/2008, -1/+12Rest In Peace Mr. Pausch.
- Rotzooi, on 07/25/2008, -1/+12He was a good person and will be missed.
- Yimyack, on 07/25/2008, -1/+11This talk wasn't for you, it was for my kids.
Might have been for his kids, but it reached a lot of people - myself included.
Live it up today people - that's all we got. -
