- hjmoore420, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I was able to work from home in the past and its so nice, but hey the oil companies rule the world.
- theblueprint, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3If my job were to let me work from home one day a week, I would give up a week's vacation.
If I could work in comfortable clothes and listen to music of my choice, it would be worth it.- ssn697, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I do work from home, with travel around the area. It is definitely the way to go. I have made more money in the market due to my flex schedule as well.
- sjbdallas, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I work from home 2 days a week. I feel like a get alot more accomplished on those days. Heck I wouldnt' mind working on holidays in the office becuase there wouldn't be anyone around to bug me.
- schnikies79, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Telecommuting sounds okay buy for those of us who like to be face-to-face, it's a problem. I couldn't telecommute anyway as I work in a organic lab and spend about 75% of my day doing wet chemistry.
Not a bad idea in general though.- noahhoward, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1OBviously you are among the 60% of jobs not compatible with telecommuting. But if the other 40% of us were to quit driving to work think how much your commute and environment would be improved.
- sishgupta, on 11/10/2007, -1/+4If you are telecommuting this week make sure to thank your sysadmin!
- monsterofNone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4i run a small business in virginia and we all telework. we have clients all over and we collaborate via iChat AV, elluminate, and teleconferencing. i purchased vonage systems for everybody so we all have the same area code even though we have workers in richmond, dc suburbs and missouri.
all this saves me the lease on office space and a zillion other sunk costs every month. let's see brick and mortar competitors beat my price and stay profitable. - hobbers, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I dunno if I could telecommute all the time. On one hand, I would be 100x more efficient since I could do whatever I wanted to once I was done. On the other hand, the urge to play Starcraft is high, so there's the possibility that no work would get done.
- YZBot, on 11/10/2007, -1/+3Hmm, I can't really fix hardware remotely.
- luther70, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Hurray for VPNs. On the plus side you get to work from home in a comfortable environment. The down side is you are expected to be able to work at any time or day of the week.
- scottykempf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Great. I can't wait to manage employees from home. Oh, wait.....
- StinkyPudding, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I work from home. Roll out of bed, turn on the computer, make my coffee. Around 10 I sneak away to jump in the shower. Shaving is now completely optional for me. I listen to music, sometimes pop in a DVD while I work, it's fabulous. Sometimes I go days without using the car.
- Azuroth, on 11/10/2007, -0/+2Judging by your user name, I'm betting showering is optional too!!! ;)

- gkiltz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0A "Show of support" is all well and good, but it is exactly that--A SHOW--and nothing more!
There are three basic attitudes when it comes to telecommuting:
1)It's a privilage to be earned by middle and upper managers who are already trusted!
2) It is a way to micromanage people who are already in the field, or on the customer's jobsite, Were chosen for that job because they did not need to be micromanaged, and took that job because because they didn't need or want to be micromanaged!
3) YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING!
Most of the world's managers, and HR people are still hostile to telecommuting. Telecommuting could seriously cut fuel consumption, cut road-buliding and mass transit maintainance costs, and increse productivity! But, in most companies, if you're not in the office, you're not working!
It's sad, but the reality is, it's culture, not technology that is holding back telecommuting, and costing the entire economy money, natural resources, time, and produtivity! until that changes, we'll keep seeing $3/Gallon gas prices, and $35,000 cars. Both of which DO NOT HAVE TO BE!
If everyone who COULD telecommute did so ONE DAY PER WEEK we would save fuel, sanity time and money!
But. alas, any government incentive will accomplish no more than do "HOV" lanes, that is they punish the victim! They take out the government's frustration on those who can't for whatever practical reason, live next door to their coworkers, or who, for practical reasons, don't care to! - lexila, on 03/15/2008, -0/+0ignore this comment, sorry!
