Musharraf: CIA Paid Pakistan For Al-Qaeda Suspects
breitbart.com — The US Central Intelligence Agency paid Pakistan millions of dollars for handing over more than 350 suspected al-Qaeda terrorists to the United States, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has reportedly said. The assertions come in the military ruler's upcoming memoir "In the Line of Fire," serialized in The Times newspaper.

- BullyJack, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16That's a lotta cash. Did we at least get to torture them?
- rhawk301, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I didn't see it in the article, but how do we know these people were Al Qaeda? I mean they could just have given us criminals, and miscreants, or insane people, claiming they are terrorists. What does this do for us as a nation to prevent terror attacks?
I mean "bring out your terrorists", and the US government will pay for them? There seems to be a flawed logic here. As soon as money gets into the picture, everyone starts to go a little wacky. - BullyJack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think that we're all too ignorant to comment on the validity of the snitches.

- kipperBugg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5It is amazing how little American's pay attention to world news, this is old news. Wake up soon or the wake up we get from the world won't be very nice
- pseudojd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I think they have allready tried...
- gxcdesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5That's usually what governments do to obtain citizens of other countries...money, and everyone has a price
- repins, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3I fail to see why this is even news.
- Desolite, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3....so? we probably woulda wasted a lot more time (and money) tracking down 369 suspects.
also, for some reason this reminds me of buying items in MMORPGs. - PowerCow, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3SO i guess this is very important to those that think we should torture terrorists... who keep meantioning , these epople are guilty as they were picked up on the battle field.. well i guess that isnt true now is it? These prisoners were bought and paid for.. and not captured by collolition troops.
I wonder, lets say another country contacted the leadership of the US and offered to pay millions for terrorists..
HOw many republicans do you think we would sell them?
How many dems?
How many anti ware protesters?
DO you think we would selll them any real terrorist?- BullyJack, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I like the idea of paying for terrorists. It makes them all paranoid beyond belief, and it also deters other psychos from following the same path.
- PowerCow, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Bullyjack, lets say the cops paid for random criminals.. I am not talking about rewards for specific criminals.. just random ones..
how many people will turn in neighbours and other people they dont like?
I would support paying for terrorist as well. Bullyjack believe it or not we are not too far apart. The problem with this admin has never been the methods, it has been the administration of the methods.
I would support rewards for terrorists.. and like all police awards.. will be paid for after conviction.. you just cant just pay people, especially in that part of the world that is more feudal, were towns fight with other towns, for terrorist upfront.. you will get the towns and clerics main enemies every time
and look at bin ladin with a 20 mill reward on his head.. I am quite sure plenty of people know were he is.. but they wont turn him in for a reward.
paying for terrorists upfront .. just means you have to watch who you piss off. - BullyJack, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3What you say has a ton of merit. It's very difficult to know who you can or cannot trust.
I would advocate paying for the locations of known terrorists. - projectshave, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Powercow is right. Pakistani vigilantes sold innocent men to American forces for the reward. Many are sitting in Guantanamo right now. Remember the Pakistan and Afghan countryside is literally like Mad Max. No laws, lots of guns, complete social decay.

- alurkar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Isn't it funny that one of the "strongest" allies in the "war on terror" became an ally only because they got paid a huge chunk of change and because "they did not have a choice". This is sad especially since the fundamental reason one should become an ally in such a "war" is the belief that "terrorism" is bad. What guarantees that this ally wont change side if they were "paid" more by other side or if they got stronger.
- axxiom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Shouldn't the Pakistani President represent the interests of the Pakistani people?
Not that the Pakistani people should be interested in protecting terrorists, but Musharraf should be representing the interests of Pakistanis first and foremost.
- axxiom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Shouldn't the Pakistani President represent the interests of the Pakistani people?
- gardnert1, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1this whole thing with Pakistan just keeps getting better and better! First threats if they didnt cooperate and now this... Bravo Bush, you sure know how to improve America's image!
- axxiom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3About that 'threat'. Armitage denies saying it. The State Department spokesman also denied it. Secretary Powell's chief of staff, Col. Wilkerson, a vocal Bush critic, also denied that Armitage made that threat.
- nixfu, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6Looks like the leftwing translator is on here trying to distort the truth:
Apparently, "US forgot some debts of Pakistan" is now translated to the evil phrase "CIA PAID".- PowerCow, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3OOO yea your right and that is SOOOOOOO different
damn them moonbats... forgiving debts is nothing like getting paid.
and dont forget the lies about us threatening them// we didnt threaten to bomb him.. we only said i"If you aint for us, you are against us and we are going to bomb the people against us" but it wasnt a direct threat.

- fani, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2What is disgusting is that Pakistan would stoop so low as to accept payments in millions of dollars for handing over al-qaida. Pakistan sucks. They should not be accepting money for this just cause. Perhaps we should charge Pakis for producing terrorists from their region in the first place - both on east coast with India and west coast with Afghanistan.
It also sucks that Pakistan may be shielding the actual terrorists and handing over ignorant dumb pricks who've been brain washed into getting captured as al-qaida for Islam.- marlinspike, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2hee hee. Charge Pakistan for producing terrorists.
Good one, esp. since it's their main export! - axxiom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5If Pakistan deploys their resources to capture people wanted by the US Government, shouldn't we compensate them for that?
Are you arguing that Pakistan should allocate their resources at a loss to the Pakistani people for another government?
- marlinspike, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2hee hee. Charge Pakistan for producing terrorists.
- marlinspike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3As far as I know, this is the first time that Musharraf (or for that matter, any other Pakistani politician), has publicly acknowledged this fact, although it should be no news to us. We've been buying ourselves dictators at atrocious costs for many decades now.
However, this should certainly give pause to anyone who seriously utters the words "ally" and "Pakistan" in the same sentence! - axxiom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Is it really a foreign concept that when a government shifts their resources at the request of another government that they would actually ask the requesting government to subsidize the costs?
Should Pakistan move entire troop regiments to hunt down people the American government requests for free?
It costs money to capture terrorists. You folks are stuck on stupid. - jabelar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's news because the White House has continued to portray Pakistan as our partner in pursuiing terrorism; instead we extorted and bribed them.
- Jack9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Please refrain from quoting Rush Limbaugh as if his words are supposed to be anything but ironic.
- riplikethat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I can't believe you people are actually believe this guy. EVERYTHING related to India in his book (from his dreamworld) has already been proven wrong word by word over here (and yeah, we ACTUALLY trust our media more than enough).
Pakistan is nothing but a terrorist state run by a dictator who is.. well, an annoying liar (I don't think anything even in west believes him anymore.. this the book.. released in NY FYI.. it's for US first). There are 200,000 more Osama's hiding in Pakistan than you could ever imagine. - chall2001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Millions of $$'s? Gee, I wonder how many of those "al qaeda" prisoners had anything to do with al qaeda? I can hear the Pakistanis now: "Hey, were a little short on cash this month, go round up some people and sell them to the Americans."
Kind of like Poland's "cooperation" after being promised a nice big chunk of the rebuilding contracts.
Thats the Bush admin for ya---corrupt to the core.
Coalition of the bribed and bought off. - jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1isnt this old news?
- shark92, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Chall2001 is absolutely right. I don't know if any of you actually heard about the "Enforced Disappearances" campaign by Amnesty International, but it has everything to do with these Al-Qaeda people. Basically, these people were taken in for having beards and just looking like people with potential to be terrorists instead of actually having proof or anything. If you just look into some of these people's cases you'd be so freakin' surprised! Most of these people are in Guantanamo and even people in Washington oppose the torture and all there. The weirdest part is that some of these people were kinda polished in such a way that they look like terrorists by the time they reach in the American jails. Amnesty has reported a number of people from Balochistan being taken into custody into Secret Intelligence Agency jails in Pakistan. Over here, they trained the people to pray 5 times a day, made them grow a long beard (and torture them on the way) and then sell them for $5000 each, sometimes more depending on how dangerous they're thought out to look. It's pretty much the biggest discriminatory act America or any other country has ever committed since the Jews were persecuted. They only take in the Muslims who seem to be terrorists without any proof whatsoever. Check out www.freeparachas.org for Saifullah Paracha in Guantanamo and Uzair Paracha in New York if you still believe the War on Terrorism makes sense.
