Majority of Iraq now democratically controlled by Iraqis
news.bbc.co.uk — For the first time, a democratically-elected Iraqi government is in charge of a majority of the country (10 of 18 provinces). The largest province and former home of the Sunni insurgency, al Anbar, is on the cusp of being handed over as well.

Hopefully they go in a positive direction and become more like the Kingdoms of Qatar or UAE and less like the Islamic Republic of Iran. I believe a big key is to educate the public and let them become a more advanced country economically, politically, and socially. The Islamic Fundamentalists should not be in power anywhere.
- Maximilian000, on 07/17/2008, -9/+3That's all well and good but how do you educate a population when the majority of your intellectuals and professionals are dead as a result of the occupation?
Add: "Democartically controlled" - are you ***** serious? Read some real news and open your eyes! - SuperShlomo, on 07/17/2008, -10/+1Too bad that all of Iraq is subject to an illegal and unwanted military occupation.
- PolishLogic, on 07/17/2008, -0/+9Illegal? Is that because the UN has annually renewed the mandate allowing us to be there?
Or is it because it was an undeclared war until the moment that Congress wrote the first check for it?
How illegal is war this again?- SuperShlomo, on 07/17/2008, -5/+0There is no status of forces agreement legitimizing our presence in Iraq. The majority of Iraqis view us as occupiers and as a destabilizing force. They have repeatedly held massive demonstrations demanding that we leave. Also the UN mandate does not allow us to wage an aggressive war and military occupation on Iraq.

Is this what they've told you personally? Or is this what you've read in "unbiased" sources like Huff Po, MoveOn.org, Daily Kos and the like?
"Also the UN mandate does not allow us to wage an aggressive war and military occupation on Iraq"
Then what are they mandating? US v. Iraq ping-pong tournaments? It's no secret to what we're doing there. So if that's the case then why is the UN approving any mandate what-so-ever, in terms of the US in Iraq?

- yellowcakewalk, on 07/17/2008, -7/+2So, the permanent occupation of Iraq is turning out to be a big success, sort of like when a rape is successful. The crimes that the Bush gang has committed are exactly the same crimes the Nazis hung for at Nuremburg.
- vault, on 07/17/2008, -1/+9"The crimes that the Bush gang has committed are exactly the same crimes the Nazis hung for at Nuremburg."
Actually, no. Not even close, despite the best efforts of the far left to make it appear that way. - ssn697, on 07/18/2008, -0/+7"Our first contestant on Competely Clueless-Yellowcakewalk!"
Congratulations on being king of the tards...

- yellowcakewalk, on 07/17/2008, -7/+3Droolers, here are the 35 Articles of Impeachment submitted to the House of Representatives by Representative Dennis Kucinich on June 9, 2008. Many of the resolutions deal with Bush's crimes regarding Iraq. Please have someone read it to you, with a little education you will not appear so foolish in front of everyone on the Internets.
