Democratic leadership in the US is overwhelmingly negative, and oftentimes seems to hope for bad outcomes in order to capitalize (win) off of them. Simply ignoring this trend and attacking those who bring it up is further negativity that avoids a solution, and symptomatic of this problem.

          Perhaps it's time for a new Democratic party that focuses on making positive solutions and alternatives, instead of being whiny brats that simply scream (or pretend to scream) "no" to everything Republican, without putting forth any solutions of their own.

          Case in point -- the "no war" crowd who, when asked to provide an alternative to war, would simply say, "I don't know! That's the Republicans job to figure out!"

      Also in special interest is the fact that in both of these interviews Osama denies any involvement in the 9/11 attacks. It would seem that if he really wanted to get some sort of jihad going that he would take responsibility for the attacks and try and get some support. RIGHT? this also fits very well with the fact that the FBI has stated that they have "no hard evidence linking OBL with the 9/11 attacks" and a look at his wanted poster will show the same thing. bush co. is the puppet master and he's having us chase boogeymen while he picks our pockets.

      the propaganda machine would have us all believe "they hate us for our freedom" ... true, there are a lot of extremists out there, and if you listen to the real bin laden, in his letter to america (http://observer.guardian.co.uk/worldview/story/0,,845725,00.html) ... he tells us exactly what their beef with us is. (hint: it's not our freedom).

      i really hope everyone takes some time to read the links above to pay attention to what the real bin laden has to say so we can all put things in perspective so that we can realize who the real enemy is.

This might be a little off as a response to such a great post above, but I think it's time that intellectuals stop playing the game of, "Those who are best to have power are those who don't wish to seek it." We as a nation need to study more, and understand people better, and see past propaganda. We can't just do it at home and in web blogs any more. We need to get into politics. Not to have the power for ourselves, but to spread the truth and acceptance of all beliefs (even those who disagree with us) across the nation.

I am upset that the CIA knows what I may be reading while possibly not understanding my motivations for reading those things. I am worried that my interests may one day coincide with the interests of what they consider to be terrorists or dissidents, even though I have no desire to be either.

But untill I came on Digg I had not idea about the tape pausing. most people dont. A tape is released, the media shows it then tells you what the government says that Bin Laden said. How many fox viwers are gonna watch the whole tape. I have never watched a whole tape of Bin *****. I will know, why, I dont trust the media or this government. And that is the way it should be, the way our founding fathers wanted it.

This raises the _possibility_ that some of the audio track could have been dubbed in at a later date (al-Sahab are reasonably high-tech these days), but it would be more than a little premature to straight away start throwing accusations around that the video is fake, the voice isn't Usama, etc.

    If the video has been edited, it will have been done by al-Sahab, al-Qaeda's media relations group, not the US government, or the CIA, or whatever mysterious federal entity you conspiracy nutters want to point the finger at this time.

Conspiracy theories involving the Bush Administration are considered totally crazy, but some elaborate fake bin Laden tape is plausible to these people. If someone wanted to make a fake bin Laden tape, why use an image of him that is so obviously different (the dyed beard)? You'd use something that resembled the previous tapes. Additionally, there is technology available to anyone with a home PC or Mac to sync up someone's mouth with new vocals. It seems to me the most likely explanation is that this is a new tape of bin Laden. The idea this is a forgery is pretty silly, unless conclusive proof can be presented. This here isn't conclusive proof.
    We also keep hearing that it is somehow un-Islamic to dye your beard. This is totally false.

          There's a problem of recursiveness with voice analysis by audio recordings unless you actually have the guy in person.

        "Pentagon planners started to discuss digital morphing after Iraq's invasion of Kuwait in 1990. Covert operators kicked around the idea of creating a computer-faked videotape of Saddam Hussein crying or showing other such manly weaknesses, or in some sexually compromising situation. The nascent plan was for the tapes to be flooded into Iraq and the Arab world."

First Afghanistan, then he was in Iraq, now he's in Pakistan. The difference is, you won't bomb Pakistan to be proved wrong anyway, because it has 100s of nuclear missiles.
