- outbreakofevil, on 11/11/2008, -96/+981Wow, that was simply stunning. Hearing the raw emotion gave me chills as I watched it.
I hope that California (and the rest of the country) can help to overturn this hateful piece of legislature. - mcfarnsberry, on 11/11/2008, -70/+618I voted against Prop 8 and I've always strongly supported legalizing gay marriage, but it's always been on more of an intellectual level, this is the first time I've ever had a strong emotional connection with it. Definitely got choked up a bit, thanks Keith.
- cornballer, on 11/11/2008, -67/+461I got chills, and choked up a bit. It looked like Keith had done the same.
Graceful, tactful, and true!
I am a Californian, I voted "No on Prop 8", and I will help fight this injustice for the rest of my days! - koolgiy, on 11/11/2008, -54/+405Keith always manages to find the right words.
- tkcom, on 11/11/2008, -52/+338This seriously needs to be on front page.
- inactive, on 11/11/2008, -54/+294Beautiful, eloquent and spot on.
- d2002, on 11/11/2008, -45/+277Personally, I support gay marriage because I like to do freaky stuff in the bedroom myself, and god knows I don't want other people judging me on THAT.
- darkciti2, on 11/11/2008, -46/+261I love Keith Olbermann and this video will go down in history.
I'm a straight male and I'm willing to fight for the rights of ALL Americans regardless of race, gender, sex, or creed.
I shed a tear watching this video. - garbanzo, on 11/11/2008, -35/+218I was never embarrassed to be a Mormon until the Yes on 8 campaign started.
- machocheese34, on 11/11/2008, -30/+211i really hope this gets overturned not just for equal rights, but so religious zealots realize they cant go around banning whatever the ***** they want, the pro prop 8 campaign stooped to such a low level by bringing children into the mix, i mean come on, it has nothing to do with kids yet they use them as their scapegoat to further their bigoted religious backed hate.
- godphase3, on 11/11/2008, -5/+182First, they come for the gays.
Then, they came for the transgendered midget bondage fetishists.
Then, they came for me. - nchenu, on 11/11/2008, -13/+162Tyranny of the majority is still tyranny. Majority rule needs to be tempered by protection of minorities and individual rights.
- Michael9636, on 11/11/2008, -45/+190I have heard many people plea for the right of gays and lesbians to enjoy the privileges of civil marriage, but never have I heard the case provided with such passion and logic. Keith Olbermann you are my hero. You have my forever loyalty and deepest respect. Among good men, you are one of the best.
- Primalid, on 11/11/2008, -52/+197Incredibly moving. Brought tears to my eyes.
- MahirH, on 11/11/2008, -10/+133You do NOT put an issue of civil rights up to a vote.
- Sendai129, on 11/11/2008, -23/+141He doesn't get angry. He doesn't call people names. He doesn't insult people in any way... Yet his calm words are more profound than anything I've read on the issue.
I'll be sharing this link with people not only for the message but for simply how well it's written. - madfastride, on 11/11/2008, -45/+163I applaud Keith Olbermann for so strongly and boldly coming out in support of what is fair and just.
- Murdats, on 11/11/2008, -11/+117then surely you voted no to have this law added right?
- inactive, on 11/11/2008, -52/+152I Felt Like Crying
- teebird, on 11/11/2008, -20/+114You're missing the point. The question that Olbermann and a great many others have raised about Prop 8 is whether who is allowed to marry whom should ever have been made into a ballot issue at all.
In the 19th century, there were laws in the US preventing some people, Chinese immigrant laborers, for example, from marrying at all, in the 20th century, we finally got rid of the last of the laws that made inter-race marriages illegal in some states. Some people see laws forbidding same-sex marriage as a giant step backward. - inactive, on 12/08/2008, -48/+137I saw this on MSNBC tonight, and it brought tears to my eyes, too. KO is amazing.
- azaraa09, on 11/11/2008, -5/+93Totally agree.
When my mother heard about the outcome of Prop 8, she called one of her church-friends and "woohoo'd" on the phone. I was utterly disgusted.
Just forwarded this to her. - PrismoFillusion, on 11/11/2008, -35/+122Beeeen Aaaaaaffleck!
But seriously, I can't believe California voted "yes" for this terrible proposition. Shame on them! - 47f0, on 11/11/2008, -13/+97bogels, you could not possibly be more wrong. The core of the Federal Constitution cannot be attacked by a simple majority vote, and a bunch of redneck religious bigots in one state cannot trump Federal guarantees of equal rights and civil liberties.
- El-Taco, on 11/11/2008, -21/+102i know everyone thinks he is some crazy left wing nut, but that was the best speech i have heard since last tuesday.
- dieboldcracy, on 11/11/2008, -18/+99I voted no. Hard to get around L.A. as of late though. Ya know, I've been thinking. Aren't the protestors preaching to the choir by marching down West Hollywood and L.A. in general. Shouldn't the just haul themselves down to O.C. by the busload and trainload and invade conservative California. I think that might be more effective. just my .02
- elitedw, on 11/11/2008, -18/+92A peaceful message to an intolerant society.
- mickstephenson, on 11/11/2008, -11/+80Democracy can only convey the opinions of the largest majority of the populace, if your largest majority is hateful bigots that's a failing of your culture. Some things are intrinsically wrong, if the majority of your populace wanted to lynch black people would you say "well... tough ***** folks, that's democracy, now get the rope"?
- jimfeet, on 11/11/2008, -4/+71Don't quote ***** bible ***** when it comes to government laws and personal freedom!
Keep your goddam religion out of my government! - digitronix, on 11/11/2008, -20/+84I think Olbermann is right.
I can speak as a religious person. I don't applaud homosexuality. But I am a libertarian, and I don't believe any government has the right to define what a marriage is. Unfortunately, my fellow Christians don't feel the same way, and I am trying to talk sense into them... - coljung, on 11/11/2008, -11/+74who cares what you think ?
- seandiggy, on 11/11/2008, -8/+68It's not your religion if you don't practice it.
- ShadowFoxxx, on 11/11/2008, -22/+82Keith, I tip my hat off to you. You've showed the obvious and simple answer to Prop 8 and why it shouldn't have passed. I haven't seen anyone so passionate about it since I heard myself talk about this.
You're absolutely right. People who are against gay marriage should watch this video and think out of their comfort zone as many others have.
Thank you, Keith. - Zadernet, on 11/11/2008, -21/+71having the LDS church illegaly spend millions on a scare-tactics campaign isn't democracy.
- Ford_Prefect2nd, on 11/11/2008, -7/+56How is asking for everyone to have human rights partisan or sickening? As to the government having no say, this would then mean you would not ban may marriage correct... God I hope its allowed and that it reverberates down through the ages.
- trisweb, on 11/11/2008, -6/+53"People who compare gay marriage to the black civil rights movements are ridiculous."
Black = color of skin that a person can't control.
Gay = biological attraction that a person can't control (yes, that's true, ask one sometime).
Black civil rights = discrimination based on a trait people can't control IS NOT OK.
Prop 8 = discrimination based on a trait people can't control IS OK.
Now tell me how I'm ridiculous, but be prepared to be proven wrong. - VicHislop, on 11/11/2008, -5/+51Uh, no rights were being taken away from straight people. What the ***** are you talking about?
- DavidinBoston, on 11/11/2008, -15/+59Having something overturned IS DEMOCRATIC, you ditz.
- christianw, on 11/11/2008, -6/+50obama. oh right, you mean that guy that was elected by the largest democratic landslide in 51 years?
yeah ive heard of him too. voted for him proudly
regarding keith. sorry, but keiths been doing what hes been doing, in exactly the same fashion, WAY before obama was even nominated. hardly makes him a sycophant.
im proud of you for learning a new word though. itll be super when you actually understand when its context is used apropriately. - garbanzo, on 11/11/2008, -6/+49What if we all voted that left handed people couldn't get drivers licenses any more? If 51% of the state thought it was a good idea then I guess we could just say 'Hey, ***** you Lefty! Good luck getting to work!'
- Aitese, on 11/11/2008, -7/+50I'm saddened that this was supported in the black community. The irony of it escapes them completely.
- Ford_Prefect2nd, on 11/11/2008, -2/+44So human rights are partisan to you?
- inactive, on 11/11/2008, -5/+46There are three branches of government:
Executive - Enforce Laws
Legislative - Make Laws
Judicial - Determine if laws are constitutional
So, the Judicial Branch is just doing its job. It is determining if the law in constitutional (at the state level). If the law is constitutional, then the Executive Branch must enforce it. If it is not, then the law is either revised or killed.
That's how the US government works, no matter what Rush or Hannity say. - dantehman03, on 11/11/2008, -6/+47I don't really know how to say this without getting bashed by everyone but on behalf of everyone protesting, I just want to say sorry for some of the negative stuff being said about mormons. I say this because I know not all mormons are going to be for proposition 8-- so, I actually wanted to thank you for even feeling the way you do. Going against the majority is hard and that's exactly what you and I are doing. My point is that we often need someone to blame and we generalize that group-- so please, do not think it's an attack on you but to those that are against gay marriage.
- HyphySoul, on 11/11/2008, -14/+55Same here, even though I don't practice it at all but my dad, who voted for Prop 8, does it hardcore. I'm actually humiliated by my own religion, so I'm smoking a blunt to this.
- wtrwlkr, on 11/11/2008, -11/+51Wow, after the months leading to the election seeing Olbermann in attack dog mode, it's refreshing to see such heartfelt emotion without his witty remarks he is so commonly known for. Don't get me wrong, I love Olbermann and his attack dog mode, but this is just a nice change of pace. Personally, I speak out on CA's prop 8 and FL's prop 2 whenever I get the chance. I work with a few homophobes who love that these two measures passed. Whenever I speak out in the defense of homosexual marriage they accuse me of being a closeted homosexual. Why is it that people can't speak out in defense of basic civil rights without assumptions being made about their own sexual status?
- TheR3dMenace, on 11/11/2008, -6/+46Tyranny of the Majority
- inactive, on 11/11/2008, -3/+42The sole purpose of the government is to protect rights. So why, then, does the government handle marriage if it is not a right, but merely a privilege?
- Nibble, on 11/11/2008, -3/+42Let's have a vote on whether or not we should tar and feather bogels. I'm sure he'll agree with whatever we decide, right?
