- bixby1, on 09/16/2008, -4/+41That's a lot of devastation there. Sometimes, I'd like to take mother nature out behind the wood shed...
- decet, on 09/16/2008, -0/+20And what would you like to tell her? "You don't mess with Texas, Bitch!"
- KCLorelei, on 09/16/2008, -1/+3I live in California and always find myself doing a balancing bar against KNOWING when something bad is coming (hurricane).. or NOT knowing -- earthquake. Both post photos are sad though.
- UniqueJewelry, on 09/16/2008, -2/+5You have a wood shed?
- ChronicColonic, on 09/16/2008, -1/+11Is Mother Nature a MILF?
- DarkCanuck12, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2...and have sexy time with her? You may want to rethink that, she's one strong, nasty b*tch. But if you're into that stuff, let the good times roll!
- sungoddess808, on 09/16/2008, -3/+18There is a lot of contaminated water!
- RevAradia, on 09/16/2008, -5/+16Oh MY! That's just awful. Those poor people.
- Equinox2012, on 09/16/2008, -1/+4Those pics don't show the half of it. I rode out the storm with my wife and 4 kids. The pics we are getting here show a far terrible sight.
- techguru2006, on 09/16/2008, -4/+14oh my god-- the height of the water is ridiculous.
- crossDborder731, on 09/16/2008, -2/+53for anyone here in houston galveston and beaumont, BOIL YOUR WATER!
my brother did not hear the warnings and drank the water, even when he had the filter. he's now trowing up and is shivering. he went to the hospital and is under observation. BOIL THE WATER!- UltramegaOK, on 09/16/2008, -2/+15http://www.runswithscissors.info/images/bt-dysente ...
Too soon?- PolishLogic, on 09/16/2008, -3/+2there's no such thing as too soon
- tylercomp, on 09/16/2008, -1/+3i assume you are a pre-mature ejaculator
- PolishLogic, on 09/16/2008, -3/+1Q: How do you know when a woman has had an orgasm?
A: Who cares...
(psst, something like this will happen again and again to the people of Galveston)
- magik12, on 09/17/2008, -7/+0water-schmater.. that's why Palin invented beer!
- atonalpanic, on 09/17/2008, -1/+1yes they tell us this online, through TV, radio... despite the fact that we did not have electricity or water or working phones. I just got everything back today, but people in low population density areas have to wait up to 4 weeks.
- TheOther1, on 09/21/2008, -0/+2So how would you suggest they disseminate the information? Door to door?
- UltramegaOK, on 09/16/2008, -2/+15http://www.runswithscissors.info/images/bt-dysente ...
- w0lfh0und, on 09/16/2008, -2/+13These are amongst the best quality images I have seen so far, really brings it home.
- goofygarber, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1The first like 4 pictures are awful... the rest are okay though. Looks rough.
- Rubicant, on 09/16/2008, -2/+29Pic 17: "Sept. 12: Waves from Hurricane Ike engulf a sculpture dedicated to the 6,000 who died on Galveston Island from a 1900 hurricane."
- flamyngo, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1This was one of those images that will stick in my mind forever.
- akh4x0r, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1It's still there.
- War3Zone, on 09/16/2008, -2/+9These are scary
- brainnovate, on 09/16/2008, -2/+7Yikes. I knew it was bad, but wow.
- AmyVernon, on 09/16/2008, -1/+7I remember after Hurricane Andrew, I saw this church where the pews were all standing, along with one wall. The roof was resting on the pews and the other three walls were gone. GONE. It's amazing the power of these storms...
- DeskFlyer, on 09/16/2008, -1/+19Dugg for a slideshow that does not require the entire page to reload for every picture.
- nepidae, on 09/16/2008, -3/+0Buried for not working without javascript.
- commentposted, on 09/16/2008, -3/+8I couldn't find the rattlesnake.
- SerenaFL, on 09/16/2008, -0/+3right in the middle of the pile of wood - look for "circular" wood with a head - sad
- chiorpheus, on 09/16/2008, -2/+6Really want to see photos of the boats stacked up that I heard so much about.
- casspa, on 09/16/2008, -2/+6Spending the first 23 years of my life in Florida images like this make me cringe.
- mellynic, on 09/16/2008, -2/+7This pics really bring it home. If Texas got it this bad, just imagine what the people in Haiti are going through...
- louiebaur, on 09/16/2008, -1/+4Haiti, Cuba, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic... all these countries get thrashed on a regular basis by these storms. It's just amazing how they survive. Let's pray for them too!
- life38, on 09/16/2008, -2/+7Katrina II. I expect a repeat of years of delay in getting people back into their community. Just remember that today there are still over 5,000 people whom have still not been able to return to areas effected by Katrina.
- judicar, on 09/16/2008, -1/+3Honestly Katrina was probably the best thing to happen to New Orleans in the last 30 years.
- burjzyntski, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2Oh, come on. It was just another hurricane that happened to hit an area susceptible to flooding.
We have a lot more of these coming in the future; just look at all of the natural disasters occurring around the world, and this surge in intensity. - AxsToro, on 09/17/2008, -0/+2Thing is, this wasn't like Katrina, because most of the people in Galveston weren't stupid enough to stay. I live in Houston, it was pretty bad here also, downtown got hit hard, and I believe they said 90% of houston was out of Power.
- burjzyntski, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2Oh, come on. It was just another hurricane that happened to hit an area susceptible to flooding.
- judicar, on 09/16/2008, -1/+3Honestly Katrina was probably the best thing to happen to New Orleans in the last 30 years.
- kylafornia26, on 09/16/2008, -2/+10Buying beach front property these days seems pointless.
- brownsound00, on 09/17/2008, -0/+1At least in the Gulf.
- ProjectGSX, on 09/16/2008, -3/+6This link shows the WORST part of a hurricane... all of the damned blurry pictures it creates.
- Sh0rtstak, on 09/16/2008, -1/+3sobering images. Lets all hope for the best.
- thegamingguy, on 09/16/2008, -1/+7The photograph of the photographer is visually amazing.
- baseball247365, on 09/16/2008, -1/+2i knew it was bad, but damn...
- xavyre, on 09/16/2008, -8/+1Those pics prove that besides being idiots for living in a place that gets destroyed several times a year from hurricanes, the people on the Texas coast are pussies. That didn't look all that bad. Luckily mother nature helps the human race out by cleaning the gene pool with a good storm every once in a while.
- didje, on 09/17/2008, -0/+2First off, the last major storm that did any real damage came in in 1983. This one was much worse. Over 50% of us are still without power in Houston (it's expected to be out for about 4 weeks) and we're 60 miles inland. I don't see how anyone could be so self-centered that they have to criticize entire devastated communities. Have you considered going to your grocery store, buying a few cases of water and taking them to red cross so we can get some supplies? FEMA's presence is minimal and we need help.
- verbaldouching, on 09/16/2008, -1/+1Too bad for the people in this devastated area, the insurance companies are already rubbing their hands together.
- BadseedJR, on 09/16/2008, -0/+5No they're not. They will lose a ***** load on this.
- tpclicker, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1Incredible images.
- britesprite, on 09/16/2008, -5/+1Hope no one's gonna claim climate change isn't happening......
- lifeisgoooooood, on 09/16/2008, -1/+2I think most people will tell you that climate change is happening ... but what many people aren't told on is that humans are completely responsible
- BadseedJR, on 09/16/2008, -1/+4True, hurricanes never happened before people.
- texanbrit, on 09/17/2008, -0/+2What about the hurricane that destroyed Galveston in 1900? Where is the evidence that says these hurricanes are linked to global warming? There have been bad hurricane seasons throughout the 20th Century. I don't know one way or the other whether the last 5 years of hurricanes is related to climate change though.
- lifeisgoooooood, on 09/16/2008, -1/+2I think most people will tell you that climate change is happening ... but what many people aren't told on is that humans are completely responsible
- twoofmyfriends, on 09/16/2008, -3/+3They did not prepare themselves so they did not get any sympathy from Ike.
/joking - PolishLogic, on 09/16/2008, -2/+3It's amazing what happens to your town when it's sitting in the middle of a hurricane zone.
- drbonemonkey, on 09/16/2008, -1/+1Jesus this is sad.
- twoofmyfriends, on 09/19/2008, -0/+1jesus is delusional
- leftyknew, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1I'm really glad i don't live where there are hurricanes and tornadoes and such, those are scary, and devastating in some cases. I feel really bad for those people that have lost most of everything.
- tylercomp, on 09/16/2008, -1/+7I like the stock up on supplies slide, only shows people holding beer and chips....its slide 53
- sencity, on 09/16/2008, -0/+3coors, dos XX and cheetos are essential in any natural disaster situation.
- amberandthings, on 09/17/2008, -0/+1what about the old guy.....evacuating a hurricane...... in a wheelchair...... wearing an air machine.... smoking a cigarette..... with a bag of chips on is lap... This guys hard-core his middle name MUST be danger.
- texanbrit, on 09/17/2008, -0/+1First things to empty off the shelves prior to the hurricane were, water, beer and pop-tarts
- Jdban, on 09/16/2008, -0/+12Totally misread that as "Ikea aftermath"
I was looking for a torn apart Ikea store after hurricane Ike- flidge, on 09/16/2008, -0/+3me too! wasnt quite sure what pics were gonna come up
- 9bpm9, on 09/16/2008, -1/+2Was I the only one sitting at the first picture thinking it hadn't loaded all the way and was going to unblur?
And now that I think of it, Home Depot and Lowes must love Hurricanes. - zerhynn, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1When I first read the title I thought "Now wait, Ike isn't that bad. He's middle tier."
- resolve, on 09/16/2008, -2/+7Once again linking to BigPicture blog on Boston.com:
Quite stunning, if sad, pictures of Ike.
http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2008/09/the_short ...- papastout, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2thanks for that, incredible photos
- cluckcluck, on 09/17/2008, -0/+1I agree, incredible.
- kiraki, on 09/16/2008, -0/+0He fought for his friends.
- Miamisun, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1#9...At this point i would abandon the idea of riding bike through the flood and pick my bike up and just carry it. But you keep chugging along buddy.
- vitaminz1990, on 09/16/2008, -1/+2Dugg for the man buying a 24-pack of Coors for his supplies.
- nepidae, on 09/16/2008, -0/+0Better to drink that instead of the water.
- sim36, on 09/17/2008, -0/+0makes you wonder what was going on back at his place - and thinking about that makes you thirsty.
- miamiflashfan, on 09/16/2008, -0/+4lmao at image number 53 where the man is "stocking up" on beer.
- digitalMessiah, on 09/16/2008, -0/+3Some people know their priorities.
- burjzyntski, on 09/17/2008, -0/+0Everyone knows that hurricanes = parties.
- digitalMessiah, on 09/16/2008, -0/+3Some people know their priorities.
- MforMike, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1photo 48: Bush loves black people.
- psplayer6, on 09/16/2008, -2/+1Buried for slides
- luet, on 09/16/2008, -1/+2***** smash brothers, every time i look at pictures of this hurricane, in my head i hear "GREAT... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAETHEEEEEEEEEEER!"
- kicker58, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1Dont want to be mean or anything but why does everyone in these pictures who stayed behind look like a hillbilly
- texanbrit, on 09/17/2008, -0/+1A few days without power has strange effects on people. You should try it some time.
- kicker58, on 09/18/2008, -0/+1I have did become white trash looking
- papastout, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1What an incredible display of force, there's a second gallery there of a cemetary that was flooded out and coffins/vaults floating away - wow!
- digitalMessiah, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1Screw the gas station in pic 72 !! Raising prices of gas on the road out of town.
Dugg for #56 - smoking while he has on the oxygen tube. - PotentPotables, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2Picture 22 is really ironic. "Saltwater Real Estate"
- brown5629, on 09/16/2008, -1/+2Am I the only one who saw "IKEA AFTERMATH" ?
- ChokingVictims, on 09/17/2008, -0/+1Nope, I was looking through the comments to see if anyone else did. I blame Jonathan Coulton.
- greensaxman, on 09/16/2008, -0/+0Hate to say this but, $3.98 for regular gas is good here in Illinois before ike...
- AlpineStars777, on 09/16/2008, -1/+3I read the title as IKEA aftermath... and thought, wow, that's a little dramatic don't you think?
- BirdCatcher, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1Ahh Ike, the hurricane that only hits the women.
- nomadofthewaves, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1This just in: Mother natures does whatever the ***** she wants.
