- crossDborder731, on 09/16/2008, -2/+53for anyone here in houston galveston and beaumont, BOIL YOUR WATER!
my brother did not hear the warnings and drank the water, even when he had the filter. he's now trowing up and is shivering. he went to the hospital and is under observation. BOIL THE WATER! - bixby1, on 09/16/2008, -4/+41That's a lot of devastation there. Sometimes, I'd like to take mother nature out behind the wood shed...
- Rubicant, on 09/16/2008, -2/+29Pic 17: "Sept. 12: Waves from Hurricane Ike engulf a sculpture dedicated to the 6,000 who died on Galveston Island from a 1900 hurricane."
- decet, on 09/16/2008, -0/+20And what would you like to tell her? "You don't mess with Texas, Bitch!"
- DeskFlyer, on 09/16/2008, -1/+19Dugg for a slideshow that does not require the entire page to reload for every picture.
- sungoddess808, on 09/16/2008, -3/+18There is a lot of contaminated water!

Too soon? - Jdban, on 09/16/2008, -0/+12Totally misread that as "Ikea aftermath"
I was looking for a torn apart Ikea store after hurricane Ike - RevAradia, on 09/16/2008, -5/+16Oh MY! That's just awful. Those poor people.
- w0lfh0und, on 09/16/2008, -2/+13These are amongst the best quality images I have seen so far, really brings it home.
- ChronicColonic, on 09/16/2008, -1/+11Is Mother Nature a MILF?
- techguru2006, on 09/16/2008, -4/+14oh my god-- the height of the water is ridiculous.
- kylafornia26, on 09/16/2008, -2/+10Buying beach front property these days seems pointless.
- inactive, on 09/16/2008, -2/+9These are scary
- thegamingguy, on 09/16/2008, -1/+7The photograph of the photographer is visually amazing.
- tylercomp, on 09/16/2008, -1/+7I like the stock up on supplies slide, only shows people holding beer and chips....its slide 53
- AmyVernon, on 09/16/2008, -1/+7I remember after Hurricane Andrew, I saw this church where the pews were all standing, along with one wall. The roof was resting on the pews and the other three walls were gone. GONE. It's amazing the power of these storms...
- life38, on 09/16/2008, -2/+7Katrina II. I expect a repeat of years of delay in getting people back into their community. Just remember that today there are still over 5,000 people whom have still not been able to return to areas effected by Katrina.
- mellynic, on 09/16/2008, -2/+7This pics really bring it home. If Texas got it this bad, just imagine what the people in Haiti are going through...
- brainnovate, on 09/16/2008, -2/+7Yikes. I knew it was bad, but wow.
- resolve, on 09/16/2008, -2/+7Once again linking to BigPicture blog on Boston.com:
Quite stunning, if sad, pictures of Ike.
http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2008/09/the_short ... - commentposted, on 09/16/2008, -3/+8I couldn't find the rattlesnake.
- BadseedJR, on 09/16/2008, -0/+5No they're not. They will lose a ***** load on this.
- casspa, on 09/16/2008, -2/+6Spending the first 23 years of my life in Florida images like this make me cringe.
- chiorpheus, on 09/16/2008, -2/+6Really want to see photos of the boats stacked up that I heard so much about.
- miamiflashfan, on 09/16/2008, -0/+4lmao at image number 53 where the man is "stocking up" on beer.
- SerenaFL, on 09/16/2008, -0/+3right in the middle of the pile of wood - look for "circular" wood with a head - sad
- UniqueJewelry, on 09/16/2008, -2/+5You have a wood shed?
- BadseedJR, on 09/16/2008, -1/+4True, hurricanes never happened before people.
- flidge, on 09/16/2008, -0/+3me too! wasnt quite sure what pics were gonna come up
- sencity, on 09/16/2008, -0/+3coors, dos XX and cheetos are essential in any natural disaster situation.
- louiebaur, on 09/16/2008, -1/+4Haiti, Cuba, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic... all these countries get thrashed on a regular basis by these storms. It's just amazing how they survive. Let's pray for them too!
- ProjectGSX, on 09/16/2008, -3/+6This link shows the WORST part of a hurricane... all of the damned blurry pictures it creates.
- inactive, on 09/16/2008, -1/+4Those pics don't show the half of it. I rode out the storm with my wife and 4 kids. The pics we are getting here show a far terrible sight.
- digitalMessiah, on 09/16/2008, -0/+3Some people know their priorities.
- texanbrit, on 09/17/2008, -0/+2What about the hurricane that destroyed Galveston in 1900? Where is the evidence that says these hurricanes are linked to global warming? There have been bad hurricane seasons throughout the 20th Century. I don't know one way or the other whether the last 5 years of hurricanes is related to climate change though.
- KCLorelei, on 09/16/2008, -1/+3I live in California and always find myself doing a balancing bar against KNOWING when something bad is coming (hurricane).. or NOT knowing -- earthquake. Both post photos are sad though.
- didje, on 09/17/2008, -0/+2First off, the last major storm that did any real damage came in in 1983. This one was much worse. Over 50% of us are still without power in Houston (it's expected to be out for about 4 weeks) and we're 60 miles inland. I don't see how anyone could be so self-centered that they have to criticize entire devastated communities. Have you considered going to your grocery store, buying a few cases of water and taking them to red cross so we can get some supplies? FEMA's presence is minimal and we need help.
- Sh0rtstak, on 09/16/2008, -1/+3sobering images. Lets all hope for the best.
- PotentPotables, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2Picture 22 is really ironic. "Saltwater Real Estate"
- tylercomp, on 09/16/2008, -1/+3i assume you are a pre-mature ejaculator
- judicar, on 09/16/2008, -1/+3Honestly Katrina was probably the best thing to happen to New Orleans in the last 30 years.
- Plant11, on 09/17/2008, -0/+2Props to the resourceful rattle snake and his makeshift raft!!
- AxsToro, on 09/17/2008, -0/+2Thing is, this wasn't like Katrina, because most of the people in Galveston weren't stupid enough to stay. I live in Houston, it was pretty bad here also, downtown got hit hard, and I believe they said 90% of houston was out of Power.
- catfish182, on 09/17/2008, -0/+2Ike is so ***** hard core it took out our power here in Ohio.
No comparsision to Texas but Ike was just that hardcore. - DarkCanuck12, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2...and have sexy time with her? You may want to rethink that, she's one strong, nasty b*tch. But if you're into that stuff, let the good times roll!
- papastout, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2thanks for that, incredible photos
- 3leggedHorse, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2Bolivar Peninsula is the most shocking pics.
http://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMasters/comme ... - AlpineStars777, on 09/16/2008, -1/+3I read the title as IKEA aftermath... and thought, wow, that's a little dramatic don't you think?
- burjzyntski, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2Oh, come on. It was just another hurricane that happened to hit an area susceptible to flooding.
We have a lot more of these coming in the future; just look at all of the natural disasters occurring around the world, and this surge in intensity. -
