Isn't this a REAL warcrime? - Indyanna, on 01/04/2009, -5/+51Not to worry. The ambulance was clearly marked "UN." I have no doubt that the UN will immediately take the appropriate measure to stop this violation by Hamas.
/s - monsieurginger, on 01/04/2009, -2/+47By firing rockets at civilian targets from civilian centers, Hamas has committed a double war crime. This is just adding to the list.
- Hortnon, on 01/05/2009, -3/+36I'm just saying...
All the claims of Israel committing warcrimes. A *weak* argument for "defense" can be made for Hamas, but THIS is a clear warcrime for which there is no defense. - DreadPirate, on 01/04/2009, -6/+37Hmm - I wonder where Kizilbash, chrisjj, emaildownme, and other anti-Israel nutcases are to defend Hamas this time?
- WhiskeyWrites, on 01/05/2009, -4/+25At first I thought they were just loading a wounded man (soldier? I think I believe I saw a weapon on him) into an ambulance, but there definitely seemed to be an extra 3 or 4 armed people getting in.
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -4/+24At the end it becomes quite clear that they are simply loading up ambulances with Hamas troops.
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -5/+25Meanwhile, the UN is too busy sanctioning Israel for wiping its nose to, you know, actually deal with *real* war crimes...
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -4/+24Jimmy, true liberals would not be defending Hamas.
Liberalism does not equal stupidity.
What you see here on digg are just incredibly ignorant people that claim to believe in Liberal values while really, they are vicious hypocrites. - Taquoshi, on 01/05/2009, -3/+20Hamas is always right. There is no question, no need for defense. (beep, beep, beep...sarcasm alert, sarcasm alert, beep, beep, beep....)
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -2/+19What? Hamas doing something wrong and illegal.. who woulda thought that possible?
- NoLibertarians, on 01/04/2009, -11/+27More than likely they had a woman or child tied to the hood as human shields !
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -6/+19I hope that you are right, dude. I can respect someone with liberal ideas as long as they are honest and open to change...as I hope that he/she can respect me for the same reasons.
But, these "liberals" here in Diggland are something else. - inactive, on 01/05/2009, -7/+20^^^^
An anti-'zionist' spewing hyperbole on my very own submission!
This is pretty exciting stuff! - inactive, on 01/05/2009, -3/+15@Jimmy
I personally draw from both sides of the spectrum to form my political beliefs.
Too much of a good thing, whether you consider that conservatism or liberalism, is always bad.
(And of course honesty and introspection are universal requirements) - inactive, on 01/05/2009, -2/+14"While the IDF justifies routine delays of ambulances based on the claim that Palestinians use them for military purposes, they have only presented one such incident."
Wow jackass, imagine that.
As soon as it's known to have occurred once, there's no way of knowing if it doesn't happen more frequently.
That is exactly what I would expect them to do.
That's what we do.
Terrorists fly planes into office buildings? Increased airport security.
Guy tries to blow up plane with shoe bomb? Shoes are now checked.
Guy tries to blow up plane with liquid explosives? No more liquids.
You are enabling the degradation of the Palestinian people by supporting Hamas.
Hamas thrives on the death and suffering of their own people.
"Hamas and Israel are just as bad. It is pretty plain to see for anyone who starts taking off the blinders"
Hamas sends fifteen year old boys with bombs strapped to their waists to kill other fifteen year old boys, their siblings and their parents.
Israel sends in an elite strike force of men to take down the people who are sending the suicide bombers.
If you actually gave a ***** about the Palestinians you would be outraged that this is occurring.
The Geneva Convention clearly states that any ambulance known to be used for military purposes is subject to the laws of war.
By applying logic, all ambulances then become subject to the laws of war.
If a Palestinian dies because of Hamas' actions, you'll go circle jerk with your friends and blame Israel.
You're a disgusting person. All you want is war. - Hortnon, on 01/05/2009, -2/+14Weak argument. Try harder.
- Indyanna, on 01/05/2009, -0/+11No kidding. Listen, maybe we could do some business. I've got some swamp land in Florida. You wouldn't be interested in a trade, would you?
- Taquoshi, on 01/05/2009, -4/+15Indyanna, I know the UN will take appropriate action. By the way, have I mentioned that I have a great deal on a slightly used bridge in Brooklyn?
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -5/+15@DreadPirate - you will find those fine folks here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tytH_b1dJiE - CaptCarrot, on 01/05/2009, -0/+10Your swamp land couldn't match the ocean front view of my Arizona estate. Come deal with me while the U.N. saves the world again.
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -0/+9yeah it sucks when Hamas won't share out the food if you don't vote for them
- factattack, on 01/05/2009, -2/+11DWalla, "social progressive" should be "socially regressive" I cannot understand how base/animalistic behavior can be termed "progressive!" Freedom is the ultimate irony--isn't it?--with personnal restraint it always succeeds.
DrDreyfus, taking from 2 extremes doesn't produce balance. The golden mean is the balanced perspective--finding what actually works--my personal PH scale. Sometimes the extreme views do accidentally find it on one issue...but they are never the source to "draw" from. Too much water kills the crop as certainly as too little--but water is still vital. I think I agree with your point, but the wording of your first line is skewed. - Ymeg, on 01/05/2009, -2/+10The U.N. is undoubtedly the most corrupt organization in recent times.
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -13/+21Waiting for the liberal, anti-Israel, pro-terrorist Digg users to show up and provide a lame attempt to explain this away...possibly by sputtering how this is actually a secret Israeli Mossad team setting up the poor, gracious Hamas charity organization.
[puke] - inactive, on 01/05/2009, -0/+8It has the Red Cross insignia on it...
- CaptCarrot, on 01/05/2009, -3/+11Hamas also uses cameras and actors to enhance their status as victim: http://digg.com/world_news/The_Story_of_Pallywood_ ...
But then, I'm sure it's justified. - inactive, on 01/05/2009, -2/+10@factattack
True that.
My wording was a little unclear. (I wasn't expecting an in-depth syntactical analysis!)
You've hit it exactly right. - JohnReb, on 01/05/2009, -0/+7Point of fact, the International Red Cross uses cresents in Muslim nations so as not to offend the sensibilities of Muslims with a cross. However it specifically forbids the use ot a red Star od David in Israel.
Officially it is only a red cross or a red cresent that identifies medical personell or equipment.
But hey, we all know the IRC is completely unviased. - Taquoshi, on 01/05/2009, -5/+12Jimmy, how did you guess? Actually, you forgot the par where George W. Bush was driving the ambulance with the Mossad team in it.
P.S. Extra air sickness bags are located just under the seat for your vomiting convenience. - inactive, on 01/05/2009, -0/+7A red cross (as well as a red crescent and a red star of David) on a light-colored vehicle are fairly universally recognized as symbolizing that the vehicle is an ambulance. The UN has ambulances.
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -3/+9@Kizilbash - I saw what you called me. I consider it a badge of honor to be 'insulted' by you. So for you haven't exceeded your statement (which I had on my profile as an endorsement for a while) of 5 Sept., 2008: ""F*** you a**hole. ... It certainly stinks around here alright, it did the moment you walked in with your cheap accusations and meaningless rhetoric." So try harder for some originality
Thanks you for your warm thoughts.
http://librarykvpattom.wordpress.com/2008/03/02/th ... - inactive, on 01/05/2009, -5/+11Most people who claim to be 'liberal' have no idea what the definition even means. They think that 'social progressive' = 'liberal' which isn't true.
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -5/+11Yes, I just KNEW that Bush was somehow involved. The Mossad/Hamas ambulance thing was heretofore the only crisis on earth that Bush hadn't been blamed for yet by the leftist wackos.
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -3/+9@Detesticular
Hey what's up douche! Long time no see!
"No you don't. You defend crimes against humanity with nationalistic arguments that always fail to pass a logical examination. "
Example?
"Being a liberal has absolutely nothing to do with an opinion on Israel."
From M-W.com
"Liberalism: a political philosophy based on belief in progress, the essential goodness of the human race, and the autonomy of the individual and standing for the protection of political and civil liberties"
Sounds like Israel!
"And that's the belief that denying the human rights of an entire group of people is justified for the protection of human rights of another set of people."
Border crossing from one state to another is not a human right.
Receiving free electricity from the country your government actively tries to destroy is not a human right.
Receiving free water from the country your government actively tries to destroy is not a human right.
Receiving free food from the country your government actively tries to destroy is not a human right.
Receiving free medical aid from the country your government actively tries to destroy is not a human right.(NOTE: GAZA HAS A BORDER WITH EGYPT)
Receiving sympathy from the country your government actively tries to destroy is not a human right.
"And that's the belief that denying the human rights of an entire group of people is justified for the protection of human rights of another set of people. Same exact argument as nazism."
No. Nazism is the belief your culture is superior to another and then exterminating that inferior culture.
The Jews of Germany were active and proud Germans.
Over 50,000 German Jews committed suicide after Krystalnacht because they were stripped of their German citizenship.
The Jews never sent suicide bombers strapped to their kids to kill German kids.
Again, just because you, in your comfy chair in your safe home, declare Israel and her people illegitimate does not mean they have to let themselves be killed.
Israel IS NOT RACIST.
THERE ARE ISRAELI-ARABS THAT SERVE IN THE
KNESSET AND ARE PART OF THE SUPREME COURT.
ISRAELI-ARABS HAVE THEIR OWN SPECIAL UNITS
WITHIN THE IDF THAT FOLLOW MUSLIM TRADITIONS.
MY FRIENDS AND I HAVE HIKED AND EATEN
PEACEFULLY ALONG SIDE ARAB CHILDREN.
I HAVE EATEN AT ABU GHOSH AND HAGGLED WITH
ARAB SHOP OWNERS IN THE JERUSALEM AND JAFFA
SHOOKS. (I DON'T EVEN GO TO THE JEWISH PART OF THE JERUSALEM MARKET, BECAUSE THEY RIP YOU OFF) - Taquoshi, on 01/05/2009, -0/+5RoFL!!!
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -1/+5Thanks for finding that.
I wasn't really convinced this was recent.
It doesn't really change anything though.
If they've done it once, they'll surely do it again. - dkapuchino, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4Innocent people die because of these war crimes.
If you care about the people of Gaza - stand up and protest Hamas's war crimes. - JohnReb, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4Ah, 2005.
Thanks. My information predates that.
Telling that it had to be backdoored though - inactive, on 01/05/2009, -4/+8No, that was a hood ornament.
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4Actually, they did allow the Magen David Adom (Red Shield/Star of David) into the IRC by a backdoor method, recognized as the Red Crystal, in which "a" (nudge nudge wink wink) red symbol is placed within a rectangle shape.
Here is some information from Wikipedia (good starting point for research, not authoritative) [footnotes omitted] (MDA = Magen David Adom):
'Since the mid-1990s, there has also been extensive and growing co-operation between MDA and the ICRC including, among other things, a USD$2.2 million expenditure on strengthening ties between the two organisations, the signing in 2000 of a two year co-operation statement, the permanent placement of an ICRC co-operation officer in MDA headquarters, and extensive support of the MDA's blood bank activities. In addition, there are bilateral cooperation agreements between MDA and a number of national Red Cross societies.
'On December 7, 2005, a diplomatic conference of states party to the Geneva Conventions adopted a third additional protocol, thereby introducing a new protective emblem, famously dubbed the "Red Crystal." This "third protocol emblem" is hailed as a truly universal emblem free of religious, ethnic, or political connotation. The new symbol is a red square frame tilted at a 45 degree angle. According to the rules of the third additional protocol, MDA can continue to use the Red Star of David as its sole emblem for indicative purposes within Israel. For indicative use in abroad missions, MDA can, depending on the specific situation in the host country, either incorporate the Red Star of David inside the Red Crystal or use the Red Crystal alone.
'On June 22, 2006, MDA was recognised by the ICRC and admitted as a full member into the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent societies, following adoption of the Red Crystal symbol in the statutes of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement on the same level as the Red Cross and Red Crescent symbols.' - inactive, on 01/05/2009, -2/+5lol
- factattack, on 01/05/2009, -1/+4Mr Detesticular,
You are arguing with yourself concerning "the middle."
I am NOT middle of the road. On the contrary...rather passionate (extreme). Re-read what I said. The golden mean is not some milk-toast concoction. It is the balanced, correct view. I was merely stating that you find it in various and often unexpected places and often containing similar ingredients to the extreme positions.
No one here asserts that a Jewish life is worth more than a Palestinian one. I cry daily over it. From what I see of DrDreyfus' perspective it is more balanced than most. He is saying that Jewish people and Arab people can be friends...and ARE in fact, friends. Your viewpoint is pointing all blame on one ethnic group. - inactive, on 01/05/2009, -3/+6Rather than deal whether it has anything to do with Megaphone, why not deal with whether its veracity?
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -1/+4@uncleosbert
While that is questionable, they were hardly in a war zone.
They were going to arrest someone. - inactive, on 01/07/2009, -1/+3"No he's not. He's trying to argue that the fundamentals of Israel didn't negate an entire ethnicity because some Arabs live in Israel peacefully. He's saying there's nothing racist about giving the control of a land to a miniscule minority simply because they belong to a certain ethnic group. It's entirely racist. It's why the situation exists."
1) 20% of Israel's population is Arab.
2) I don't think you understand that w/o the creation of Israel there would have been no Palestinian state. There were never plans ever to give a state to the Egyptians/'Trans-Jordanians' living in the land called Palestine until the Peel Accord.
3) The only reason some Palestinians were kicked out of Israel in 1948 was because they did not give their 'loyalty' to Israel when it was attacked by their bordering-brothers. The ones that did, were not touched by the Israeli Army. The other so called 'refugees' left after the Palestinian aristocracy did so themselves and then recommended that they do the same. The plan was to come back after Israel had been obliterated.
"It's a non point. The fact that X and B can be friends has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that C and A are killing each other."
I assume you intended for B to be equal to C because at least one of these variables has to constantly represent the Israelis.
That said, that's the _entire_ point if you are asserting that Israel is racist. The fact that Israeli society holds no animosity towards it's Arab citizens proves that ethnicity is not the issue.
"The goal of the recent invasion is to prevent mortar attacks. Those killed 4 people. "
How many Israelis do you think should have been killed before it was ok for Israel to stop the rockets?
Give me a number.
"To achieve this, it was deemed necessary and acceptable to bomb civilian markets and homes where hundreds of innocents walk daily."
That is a blatant lie and it is absolutely disgusting that you are actually asserting that.
Provide proof or retract that statement.
"It was also deemed to risky to send foot-soldiers in to actually go after specific targets without killing everyone. Risky only for Israeli soldiers, of course."
Do you have _any_ knowledge at all of the tactics of war?
Armies always shell and bomb an area before they go in to clear it of mines/booby traps/weapons caches.
We did it in Iraq and we did it in WW2 and we did it in Vietnam.
What Israel did differently was send tens of thousands of text messages, drop leaflets, and make phone calls to homes in the affected areas telling people to leave because they might their would be danger if they stayed.
"That means a Palestinian life is worth less than an Israeli life, in their eyes. They have to bomb civilian areas in order to prevent the bombing of civilian areas. ***** for virginity and fight for peace. You get the idea."
You are so completely insane. - BritishPhoenix, on 01/08/2009, -0/+2Of course they are... its the UN. We keep thinking that the UN is a benevolent, democratic, regulateable, honest, integrity-stacked organisation. Stupid us.
- uncleosbert, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2how are you defining war zone? barghouti was arrested april 15, 2002.
"At the end of March 2002, Israel launched the largest offensive in the West Bank since it first occupied the area in 1967."
http://electronicintifada.net/bytopic/200.shtml
"The image of Barghouti shackled by Israeli soldiers is also a picture that goes back terribly far in time. The former prisoner and deportee, who became a leader and a legitimate partner for dialogue, is once again in irons. Israeli tanks are in the casbahs, soldiers are in the refugee camps, the Ketziot Prison has reopened, and Barghouti is under arrest once again. The long path Israelis and Palestinians walked together seems to have vanished, as if it had never existed at all. When Barghouti is released again from prison, he'll be even more extreme. Maybe by then, there will be nobody to talk with.
"This is our gift for Independence Day," one IDF officer so arrogantly defined his arrest. No gift could be more depressing"
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/pages/ShArt.jhtml?ite ... - inactive, on 01/05/2009, -2/+4Try harder, haha, that's good.
I don't have anything to prove here. Hamas is bad. It's plain to see. Israel is just as bad. Just as plain to see. I am not defending Hamas, you are defending Israel, also plain to see. You can carry on trying to make it seem as if Hamas are the only bad guys here, but deep down you know that's crap. Israel is a rogue state, has been from day one.
And yet, you feel the need to defend it. You will need to make up an awful lot of crap to do that. That's why I called you a cynical ***** bernky boy, because you know very well you are trying to polish a turd here. - inactive, on 01/07/2009, -0/+2@uncleosbert
