Tune into the live Digg townhall tonight at 5:00pm PST/8:00pm EST.
Global Happiness [map]
geostrategis.com — This world map on happiness is an interesting perspective, but primarily focused on the social side of well being. It provides a strong visualization but lacks the substance to become a strategic or policy significant map.
- 1076 diggs
- digg it
- bicyclethief, on 04/17/2008, -3/+30Mongolians FTW
- CheeseburgerBro, on 04/17/2008, -1/+44Get away from my ***** wall, Mongorians!
- jasz, on 04/17/2008, -6/+1I call shenanigans .... Brazil is the happiest place on earth... and America is bitter!
/sarcasm- ostracize, on 04/17/2008, -0/+9Depending on where you sit in the social strata
- adriyel, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1You think that is impressive? Look at Bhutan, small and happier than a pig in ***** it isn't Tibet.
- bonedead, on 04/17/2008, -2/+8GOD DAMN MONGORIANS! REAVE MY ***** WALL ARONE!
- meeks82, on 04/17/2008, -2/+2I'm moving to Mongolia and buying a camel.
- Otab, on 04/17/2008, -1/+0Saynbaynu!
- TheMinimalist, on 04/17/2008, -2/+7Areas with water issues are apparent on that map.
- Tunguska, on 04/17/2008, -5/+15Areas with Islam are apparent on that map.
- brianara3, on 04/17/2008, -2/+3But the Islams look like such happy people. (according to the map) I like how Iraq is "unknown"
- diggid3, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1and people living there are off-the-scale unhappy
- Tunguska, on 04/17/2008, -5/+15Areas with Islam are apparent on that map.
- whoreable, on 04/17/2008, -1/+41Why are the great lakes, as well as lake Victoria, black? They should have made it white like the rest of the water.
- CheeseburgerBro, on 04/17/2008, -2/+46Racist.
- brianara3, on 04/17/2008, -7/+1Freaking Epic....
- Edwaldo, on 04/17/2008, -2/+1Also, what's with the gray countries? No comment? BTW nice name.
- danisth, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1gray probably mean no available data
- Densetsu, on 04/17/2008, -0/+5White is the alpha and omega of happiness, as displayed by the large pirate population on the oceans and seas. However, they are unable to access the landlocked great lakes.
- CheeseburgerBro, on 04/17/2008, -2/+46Racist.
- modafroman, on 04/17/2008, -3/+22Damn right, us aussies are happy ***** :D
- alphgeek, on 04/17/2008, -0/+34Article flagged as inaccurate. I'm an Aussie and I was only mildly content today.
- ultralights, on 04/17/2008, -14/+5so why is Iraq so happy?
- gllopc, on 04/17/2008, -4/+10Freedom! Didn't you hear?
- Idgit, on 04/17/2008, -0/+14Iraq is colored gray, which probably means they have no data for Iraqi happiness.
- AlanGreenGore, on 04/17/2008, -7/+0Your glasses are Gray. I beat you LOVE BO!
- thescimitar, on 04/17/2008, -2/+20I believe you've confused Iraq with Saudi Arabia, which is happy because they're making more money than they know what to do with.
I mean, besides financing terrorism.- atorch, on 04/17/2008, -0/+8kind of amazing that someone could confuse Iraq with Saudi Arabia, after five years of seeing maps of Iraq online, on tv...
- jacuff, on 04/17/2008, -1/+15I personally believe that US Americans are unable to do so because some people out there in our nation don't have maps and I believe that our education like such as in South Africa and the Iraq everywhere like such as and I believe that....
- brianara3, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2There is a video on youtube where somebody places Iraq in Australia... (search for stupid and sort by view count, it's on the first page)
- hokie47, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1It is more like the top 1% is making more money than they know what to do with and the rest are very poor.
- atorch, on 04/17/2008, -0/+8kind of amazing that someone could confuse Iraq with Saudi Arabia, after five years of seeing maps of Iraq online, on tv...
- AlanGreenGore, on 04/17/2008, -4/+3They have a chance. Look at the Map you idiot. Everyone free are more happy. Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
- Atomic05, on 04/17/2008, -3/+2See, when the guys who were going around asking if people were happy went to Iraq, they were shot. Therefore there is no data for Iraq.
- RegalGSX, on 04/17/2008, -4/+1That's Iran you dumb *****
- jcasaurus, on 04/17/2008, -10/+27This is a lie.
- GenkaiNashi, on 04/17/2008, -6/+6I think this map is incredibly biased towards westernized nations and seems to not account for population size or density and other factors; America - anti-depressants anyone?
- snoogit, on 04/17/2008, -9/+2No *****, theres no way America should be that happy.
- mike17032, on 04/17/2008, -2/+9Speak for yourself, and then go wallow in your own misery.
- mirunit, on 04/17/2008, -0/+9Not everyone is convinced that the US is the sole evil in the world, thus, those Americans are just fine. Also unemployment is fairly low in the US currently, wages are strong and while food may be undergoing inflation - atleast it is there to buy.
- brianara3, on 04/17/2008, -1/+2They must not have sampled people while they were driving....
- snoogit, on 04/17/2008, -9/+2No *****, theres no way America should be that happy.
- magicaltrevor, on 04/17/2008, -2/+7*****
- edd17, on 04/17/2008, -1/+4
- moletimer, on 04/17/2008, -0/+5I disagree.
- edd17, on 04/17/2008, -1/+4
- GenkaiNashi, on 04/17/2008, -6/+6I think this map is incredibly biased towards westernized nations and seems to not account for population size or density and other factors; America - anti-depressants anyone?
- gibler, on 04/17/2008, -2/+5Let me help fill in Iraq and Afghanistan: pissed off. What happened to Greenland?
- ExiL3, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1...it's ***** freezing! duh
- casualgod, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Why is the former republic of Yugoslavia on the first map?
- brianara3, on 04/17/2008, -0/+0Nobody lives there?
- adriyel, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2ever heard any news about the government of Greenland?
Think hard.
- thescimitar, on 04/17/2008, -0/+8Why are Venezuela and Mongolia so happy?
- lordmetroid, on 04/17/2008, -3/+29Mongolians are happy because they don't care about political issues. Venezuelans are happy because the government says so.
- thescimitar, on 04/17/2008, -1/+3Damn you, crafty socialism!
- rowdy7001, on 04/18/2008, -1/+1From what I hear chavez is a good president actually trying to help the poor instead of just appeasing the rich. I think you guys get alot of anti-venezuela media ***** in th US.
- Hangly, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Chavez!
- masamunecyrus, on 04/17/2008, -1/+3And why is Malaysia so happy? And why are Japan, Taiwan, and Korea so unhappy? This map seems to lack sanity. o_O
- sat0shi, on 04/17/2008, -0/+6Have you ever been to Japan or Korea? I haven't been to Taiwan but I live in Japan and visit Korea regularly.
Let me tell you... I'm not happy!- masamunecyrus, on 04/25/2008, -0/+1Actually, yes. I'm currently living in Japan. And have Taiwanese friends. And know someone who lives in South Korea.
- Arramol, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2The Japanese are probably worked to death. Also, how do your name and your avatar not kill each other?
- sat0shi, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Interestingly enough though, Japan lost the #1 spot in amount of time working a while ago. I'm pretty sure America is #1 now, and Korea is also above Japan now as well.
- blackjack75, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1As far as I know Japan and Korea are the world leaders ... in suicides. That might be related to some happiness issues, although don't take my word for it, I am not a pundit.
- sat0shi, on 04/17/2008, -0/+6Have you ever been to Japan or Korea? I haven't been to Taiwan but I live in Japan and visit Korea regularly.
- atorch, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Why is Oman so happy? They're even happier than the Saudis.
- Zettabyte, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1Also Singapore and Brunei.
- lordmetroid, on 04/17/2008, -3/+29Mongolians are happy because they don't care about political issues. Venezuelans are happy because the government says so.
- super8mtb, on 04/17/2008, -2/+20Heres to canada.
- Neoforce, on 04/17/2008, -2/+10Shouldn't western Pennsylvania be yellow?
- solid12345, on 04/17/2008, -0/+5Their guns and bible keep them happy enough.
- HiKevinRose, on 04/17/2008, -2/+66Greenland committed suicide. :(
- Sabretou, on 04/17/2008, -0/+4They should never have gone emo. Russia looks unhappy enough to have gone emo as well. :(
- blackjack75, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2Yes, either Russia is emo or it just got out of 70 years of an oppressive regime to dive right back into another.
- Mnevis, on 04/17/2008, -1/+3Grey means "No representative could be reached for comment."
- Sabretou, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Yeah, right.
- gllopc, on 04/17/2008, -3/+7If Portugal and Spain are in the same land mass, you'd think Spain's happiness would rub off on Portugal. What the hell is going on there?
For the record I'm a typical selfish American and my knowledge of international politics stops at the far Canadian and Mexican borders.- troon, on 04/17/2008, -2/+21If you can identify Spain and Portugal on an unlabelled map, you're not a typical American.
- alphgeek, on 04/17/2008, -3/+6Hey, he can identify Canada and Mexico. That probably puts him in the top decile in the IQ stakes.
- ExiL3, on 04/17/2008, -4/+4LOL, thanks mate, you just made a Norwegian even happier!
- AlexWills, on 04/17/2008, -1/+4For a country full of idiots we sure have accomplished a lot. Like create the very tool you're using to express your hate for Americans.
- blackjack75, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2Countries do not accomplish things, people do.
Although countries do have guns and they tend to shoot people.- Jashobeam5, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1The US gov't started the internet. It's a product of the US, not just US citizens. BTW, thanks Israel for the cellphone :)
- blackjack75, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2Countries do not accomplish things, people do.
- alphgeek, on 04/17/2008, -3/+6Hey, he can identify Canada and Mexico. That probably puts him in the top decile in the IQ stakes.
- adriyel, on 04/17/2008, -1/+3Spain is doing well economically, and has a much more manageable cost of living than the rest of Europe.
Portugal is just kind of catching up. They're doing their best to present themselves as a trade hub for the atlantic.- gllopc, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2And that's the information I was looking for. Thank you!
- Archimboldo, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1I'll take your word about Spain's economy. _Living_ there might be easier from an economic standpoint, but I'll tell you, Portugal was the most enjoyable Western European country I have _visited_. It had the most character and Old World charm.
- rowdy7001, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1thats because it was a lot slower developing
- troon, on 04/17/2008, -2/+21If you can identify Spain and Portugal on an unlabelled map, you're not a typical American.
- smoothmedia, on 04/17/2008, -2/+10Check out Canada and Scandinavia on the Well Being index map on the same page!
- comradeTJH, on 04/17/2008, -1/+3Don't forget Switzerland.
- ExiL3, on 04/17/2008, -2/+1nein! Nicht forgetz Schwitzerlaand!
- comradeTJH, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Norge er ikke so lei heller ;-)
- danisth, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1and austria?
- ExiL3, on 04/17/2008, -2/+1nein! Nicht forgetz Schwitzerlaand!
- adriyel, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Nordic nations always do well on economic/happiness/democracy/insert_metric indexes.
I have some hypotheses as to *why* Nordic nations are so much better off, but I'll reserve them so that I don't draw the ire of the body of Digg.
Research it further if you're curious.- iigloo, on 04/17/2008, -0/+3Wow! This was a meaningless post. Just, wanted to point that out. Equally meaningless.
- Armakillo, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1Yeah, Norway's great, except for its dirty little secret--it's the most racist country on the planet.
- comradeTJH, on 04/17/2008, -1/+3Don't forget Switzerland.
- Ell3, on 04/17/2008, -19/+8Pretty closely resembles an IQ map.
- magicaltrevor, on 04/17/2008, -9/+7Er, America?
- NathanielJ, on 04/17/2008, -2/+9Probably the most ignorant comment in the history of Digg.
- SiliconRain, on 04/17/2008, -3/+5I think you'll find that it, in no way, resembled an IQ map:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/9/9 ...
It is, however, quite similar to a map of affluence:
http://ucatlas.ucsc.edu/africa.html- SiliconRain, on 04/17/2008, -1/+5Whoops - I meant:
http://ucatlas.ucsc.edu/gdp/gdp_per_cap_2000.gif
- SiliconRain, on 04/17/2008, -1/+5Whoops - I meant:
- ihavefish, on 04/17/2008, -7/+5So living in mud huts without having developed things like a native written language, in a "civilization" that doesn't even rival those of 2500 years ago, makes you unhappy? OK, I buy that.
- Aitese, on 04/17/2008, -2/+4Who are these mud hut people you're talking about?
- ihavefish, on 04/17/2008, -4/+3Most of sub-Saharan Africa, and it is my understanding that the Masaii people actually use cow dung for their huts, not mud.
- Aitese, on 04/17/2008, -2/+3Most? You're not that well informed are you?
- ihavefish, on 04/17/2008, -4/+3Most of sub-Saharan Africa, and it is my understanding that the Masaii people actually use cow dung for their huts, not mud.
- blackjack75, on 04/17/2008, -1/+2I don't think having lesser scientific knowledge would hurt happiness levels. I'd be pretty happy on a beach drinking coconut juice.
- Aitese, on 04/17/2008, -2/+4Who are these mud hut people you're talking about?
- ravage86, on 04/17/2008, -2/+44Why isn't there a yellow mark over my house? :(
/wrists- Sabretou, on 04/17/2008, -1/+9Your house is an independent nation? Are you that Sealand dude?
- Hangly, on 04/17/2008, -7/+4I don't think I buy that Norwegians are that happy.
- troon, on 04/17/2008, -2/+11Have you seen the ladies?
- nedev, on 04/17/2008, -2/+8They have been n1 in the world Human Development Index for years, they should be ***** ecstatic.
- adriyel, on 04/17/2008, -3/+9they're one of the top countries in GDP per capita.
They're at the top of the democracy index consistently.
Their human rights record is top-notch.
They're at the top of the Freedom of the Press Index.
They have a higher than average IQ than most of the rest of Europe.
their crime rates are lower than the rest of Europe.
Of course they're happy you ignorant *****.- geogeer, on 04/17/2008, -2/+2Yeah, but they always seem so.... boring.
- drastik21, on 04/17/2008, -2/+1one word....snow...
- RMRilke, on 04/17/2008, -1/+0Jeg er i kjempeform!

- Aitese, on 04/17/2008, -0/+26I'm very weary of these studies. This one from a few years ago stated that Nigerians where the happiest people on Earth, followed by Mexicans:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/3157570.st ...
Now this new study shows different. In fact the UK is shown in the second tier of happiness in this new study.
Between the two differing studies, being a Nigerian living in the UK I should be bloody ecstatic. I'm far from it.- Hangly, on 04/17/2008, -0/+5If you went back to Nigeria would you feel better?
I understand that Nigerians have the richest family life of anyone anywhere. I think I read that in a Kurt Vonnegut book.- Aitese, on 04/17/2008, -0/+5Doubt I'd be happier being used to a western standard of living. My wants far outweigh my needs. I'm guessing in the third world if you are lucky enough to have access to running water or bread you'd be happier than a Londoner with the same.
- alphgeek, on 04/17/2008, -1/+3Having cornered the world markets in large deceased estates and viagra stockpiles, why wouldn't Nigerians be happy?
- Aitese, on 04/17/2008, -2/+3Wow...the scam email jokes...are we on to that already?
- alphgeek, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1Aww diddums. Here, have a cookie.
- Aitese, on 04/17/2008, -2/+1Not hungry friend...welcome to my bolcked list. Congrats!
- alphgeek, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1*sniff* b...bu...buhbye :(
Life is so empty for me now.
- solid12345, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1Ah lighten up.
- alphgeek, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1Aww diddums. Here, have a cookie.
- Aitese, on 04/17/2008, -2/+3Wow...the scam email jokes...are we on to that already?
- solid12345, on 04/17/2008, -1/+3Well judging by all the e-mails from Nigerians, you are all a nation of princes and swimming in wealth!
- gsiliceo, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1LOL, we mexicans as happy or happier thant lots of "rich" countries, and we are third world people, take that frenchmen!
- Hangly, on 04/17/2008, -0/+5If you went back to Nigeria would you feel better?
- crowbarred, on 04/17/2008, -0/+8Hey uh ..... We are not that happy down under here in New Zealand, In fact if you can find one happy Kiwi then they are most likely stoned.
- SpicyViper, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2The researcher probably thought it was part of Australia and marked it accordingly.
- CheeseburgerBro, on 04/17/2008, -2/+1Yea?
- madmax85, on 04/17/2008, -1/+11How do you define happiness?
- SpicyViper, on 04/17/2008, -2/+9The state of being not unhappy.
- CheeseburgerBro, on 04/17/2008, -2/+5It is often marked by feelings of experiencing the hu-mon emotions known as "joy", "contentment", "satisfaction", "euphoria" and "orgasmatronicoid bliss."
- ostracize, on 04/17/2008, -3/+5a warm gun
- sporg, on 04/17/2008, -8/+2The CIA contributed data to this so clearly it cant be trusted. I guess they take time off from cover ups, cocaine smuggling and torturing people in concentration camps to spread misinformation occasionally.
http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/2007/12/11/gu ...
http://globalresearch.ca/articles/MCC409A.html - DalamarArgent, on 04/17/2008, -1/+0Adrian White should head over to Tibet. I think he made a slight mistake.
- Hangly, on 04/17/2008, -7/+2Also I don't believe for a second that Japan is happier than China. Chinese people are generally pretty cheerful, while the Japanese are miserable to the point of neurosis.
- sat0shi, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2Yeah, I saw a salaryman the other day in his suit, just coming down the stairs to the subway out of the pouring rain. He was dripping wet, obviously had a rough day at work, and was just slowly sliding his feet across the ground slumped over like he was half dead. And no, he didn't look drunk. He just looked like he was about to kill himself. Normal salarymen look about the same, really. Their eyes just look like their souls have been sucked away, which I assume have been by their loving companies.
- Sabretou, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2Yes of course, China's attitude to human rights leaks happiness.
- Sherman901, on 04/17/2008, -2/+2you can't always get what you want...
- jjive, on 04/17/2008, -0/+20I'm so happy to be living in a happy country on this happy map. It just makes me happy that happy people have more things to be happy about than sad people. At least happy people have a map to make them happy.
- Aitese, on 04/17/2008, -0/+12Maybe all the other people are unhappy ...like such as South Africa, and the Iraq...because they don't have maps.
- maretten, on 04/17/2008, -4/+3I doubt people in Kansas are that happy.
- biffen, on 04/17/2008, -2/+2I've been all over the county and I'd want to live in Kansas before anyplace else. Exceptional schools, beautiful country, very low cost of living, public amenities are top-notch, ESPECIALLY the roads. Oh, God the roads are beautiful. like driving on silk asphalt! Plus, national champions in football AND basketball. Kansas City is great. Like a smaller Chicago. Except the Missouri side is poor and ugly, the Kansas side is rich and beautiful. The place is like an oasis in the Midwest desert of suck. I can tell that you've never even been to Kansas.
- solid12345, on 04/17/2008, -0/+3That is true, when you cross the border from Oklahoma to Kansas you can feel the vibrations under your car change from a rollercoaster to riding on a magic carpet.
- KayIslandDrunk, on 04/18/2008, -1/+2Biffen, please tell me you forgot the /sarcasm tag.
- lolwutpear, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1ignorance is bliss?

- xenxes, on 04/17/2008, -2/+2The question is... what are the parameters for happiness? and are they the same for everyone?
- TheKeithD, on 04/17/2008, -0/+3int calculateHappiness(int money) return money;
- iticu, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1An anarchist/communist would disagree..
(not the enslaved type, though)
Everyone knows that computers are happiness.
- iticu, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1An anarchist/communist would disagree..
- TheKeithD, on 04/17/2008, -0/+3int calculateHappiness(int money) return money;
- blast_flame, on 04/17/2008, -0/+15How exactly do they determine something as subjective as "happiness." Do they just ask random people or do they do an equation like Freedom x technology?
- CheeseburgerBro, on 04/17/2008, -2/+3What's wrong with the question, "Are you generally happy?"
- blast_flame, on 04/17/2008, -0/+4Well for one it's awfully subjective (a person who has never experienced true suffering may have have a more negative response then someone who has given the same level of happiness). Secondly it suffers from differences in culture (one culture may make one answer that they are happy even if they are not while another would make them answer honestly). Thirdly it's easy to get a bad sample (it would for instance be easier to poll the fairly well off people in the capital of a third world country then those way out in the wilderness).
- kmiller2087, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1that doesnt matter though. it doesnt measure suffering, or well-offedness. it measures if a society or culture is generally content with their lot in life. it is subjective, but i think it works. happiness isnt monetary.
- colombian201, on 04/25/2008, -0/+0money does not make you entirely happy, but not having enough money to support your family, feedyourself, pay for your house, pay your bills and such can make a person REALy unhappy.

- coffee200am, on 04/17/2008, -9/+2No one can be happy unless they vote for Obama...
Obama is happiness! - Aharoni, on 04/17/2008, -1/+2How can Israelis be so happy?? we've got slow internet connections and cars cost helluva lot of money! plus, when you return products to the store you don't get your money back - you get credit! And good DJs don't visit here as often, only once every six months!
Life here sure is hell...- torontoliam, on 04/17/2008, -1/+6Maybe it's because you think happiness is the same as materialism.
- choooke, on 04/17/2008, -1/+0It isn't?
- solid12345, on 04/17/2008, -0/+3That is what everyone who is poor says, but deep down you know you want that Iphone and 1080p TV in my living room.
- colombian201, on 04/25/2008, -0/+0hahahah ya right, try being happy while being poor as hell. In our society it is impossible to be happy without having things to show off to your friends and show them how good you are doinh. Its human instinct to compete with each other to see who is the "best" no matter what is it about, before people used to compete on how fat they could be, the fatter the better, now is the opposite : /
- urik88, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Dude be happy for what you have.
I moved to Argentina from Israel almost one year ago.
I'm currently with a lame 256 KB connection. Not because a faster internet is very expensive, but because the only provider in the area in which I live can't provide more.
Also, ADSL costs WAY more than in Israel.
Also over here you don't get your money back.
I have to admit that you're right with the music thing. Over the last months, Iron Maiden, Hammerfall, Sonata Arctica, Gamma Ray, Helloween, and other awesome bands were here :]. Megadeth are comming soon too :D. Also, if you're into techno, we had the Creamfields. The biggest techno festival in the world.
- torontoliam, on 04/17/2008, -1/+6Maybe it's because you think happiness is the same as materialism.
- kilya218, on 04/17/2008, -2/+7Funny. Sweden happy? We're one of the most mentally ***** countries in the world.
- ExiL3, on 04/17/2008, -1/+2***** awsome swedish chicks defeats the "mentally *****" and made you happy...
...also you have internetz - Lutz, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2Come on... The only reasons people are whining is because it's dark and gray during winter time and that we don't have any real problems so we make stuff up. Comparing to worldwide, I'm pretty sure we're happy, one can be both happy and grumpy no?
- geogeer, on 04/17/2008, -0/+0That's why they think they're happy! ;-)
- Oddish, on 04/18/2008, -1/+1Please elaborate on how Sweden is "mentally *****". Idiot.
- kilya218, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1Look at everyone calling in sick, claiming that they're "utbrända" (there is NO such thing!), etc. We're eating antidepressants like it's food.
- fishgeekva, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1Ireland still has you beat...
- ExiL3, on 04/17/2008, -1/+2***** awsome swedish chicks defeats the "mentally *****" and made you happy...
- dracata, on 04/17/2008, -1/+3I'm not sure I trust a map created by someone who can't even spell the University he's from.. "Leicester"
- iticu, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1http://www.le.ac.uk/external/
?
Edit; Nevermind, I fail. Didn't see the typo. >.
- iticu, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1http://www.le.ac.uk/external/
- ajhunte, on 04/17/2008, -2/+1China is above average.....hmmm
- geogeer, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1I'm surprised they aren't happier... I guess putting a gun to some bodies head while saying "be happy" can only make somebody so happy
- mvk25, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2so now i'm not ***** happy!
- RubineBoy, on 04/17/2008, -2/+0Seems I am the most happy one today.
- Cannabuz, on 04/17/2008, -1/+4Australians aren't that happy, they're high or drunk!
- nickcozy, on 04/17/2008, -2/+2Iraq is unhappy obviously but USA is happy.
- joach, on 04/17/2008, -2/+2I like this better:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satisfaction_with_Lif ... - enginyazilan, on 04/17/2008, -1/+2being happy about what? about living in USA?
- munna80, on 04/17/2008, -5/+9BURIED!
I've seen a lot of nonsense and stupid statistics on Digg, but I think this one tops them all, this is just sooo made up!
It just makes no sense at all! Obviouslly who did this hasn't even travelled around the world.
This things annoy me because I know a lot of people believe these crap articles/images....
For example,
Anyone who has been to india or brazil will know that happiness there is much above average. I don't mean money, or resources. I mean a smile on their face. Hapiness. They know what happiness really is.
And the oposite can be said about some of the countries marked in red...but im not gonna go there...
- flashback99, on 04/17/2008, -1/+2Also, people's happiness changes from day to day - don't take it too seriously
- severinsen, on 04/17/2008, -2/+0They might be more happy when they first have a reason to. But as that is countries that is still under heavy developing there sure is loads of unhappines going around when they think about their life situation and their extreemly limited possibilties.
- munna80, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1What limited possibilities? Not being able to buy an iphone, or get to the internet?
Those are the futile things that make ppl who can't have it unhappy in western societies...
In these countries, people smile, as long as they have some bread on the table, and nothing else matters.
- munna80, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1What limited possibilities? Not being able to buy an iphone, or get to the internet?
- tbstudee, on 04/17/2008, -1/+4This is completely silly.
- MrBeamish, on 04/17/2008, -2/+1mmm I wonder if this correlates pretty much 1:1 with a wealth/affluence map of the world.
- ortucis, on 04/17/2008, -1/+12What kind of an idiot actually takes these 'maps' seriously?
EDIT: Nvm, for a second I forgot that this is Digg. - jasonlfunk, on 04/17/2008, -1/+8I'm sure this map represents something, but happiness is not it.
- moocowrat, on 04/17/2008, -2/+2awww...lighten up Russia!
- flashback99, on 04/17/2008, -1/+10This graph supports the Money = Happiness theory.
The reason this graphs strikes me as ***** is because happiness cannot be accurately measured. - Vileputrid, on 04/17/2008, -4/+1lol africa, I guess all the aids, famine and war make you a bit unhappy after all
- Mr8lack, on 04/17/2008, -2/+1this map is backwards.... they are equating happiness with wealth and anyone who's been to a third world country can see that some of the poorest people are much happier than the rich. I myself have seen people living out of shacks that were happier than many others with $$$.
- kinerry, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Money DOES bring happiness
