May he rest in peace. - TravisG5, on 10/12/2007, -13/+91@ Postophagus545
This is not your time to make political arguments, so shut up.
Rest in peace. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+67Oh I know who you are now, you're that "internet tough guy" I keep hearing about.
RIP President Ford. - wonderboy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+48@Postophagus545
Lay off the meth.
RIP Gerald Ford - eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -5/+43@Postophagus545
Shut the ***** up. Grow a ***** brain. Stop posting here.
RIP Mr. Ford - littlebylittle, on 10/12/2007, -6/+43Hey Postophagus545
You need to be banned. No one gives a ***** "who you are." - Nar1117, on 10/12/2007, -12/+47Indeed. No matter his policies, or the things he did while president, A former President of the Unites States has died, be respectful of the dead.
- TSSaloic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29This is a bad link.
A link to the AP story from ABC 13 in Texas is at http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=nation_world&id=4883788 - mrivorey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27I apologize for the bad link... there is a special report on ABC News right now.
- MusicPirate, on 10/12/2007, -5/+27The title should read PRESIDENT Gerald Ford Dead, he's got the PRES. title for a reason
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Abe Vigota is invincible. How dare you question his immortality.
- sockpuppets, on 10/12/2007, -10/+27Gerald Ford, dead at the senseless age of 93.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18@TravisG5: LOL, you win! You've really got that "important" guy upset.
But, you do make a valid point. Save the political arguments for another thread. Most of us are going to be remembered by very few for our meager accomplishments. Like him or not, Ford was one of the few great men our beloved country will ever see. - littlebylittle, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21The man did a good job as President given the mess handed to him.
- soogy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16@Nyyankeeman
Nope, check out sockpuppet's quote.
For anyone who has no idea what the hell we're talking about:
Tom Brokaw: Gerald Ford dead today at the age of 83.
Producer: Good, now one for next year.
Tom Brokaw: Gerald Ford dead today at age 84.
Producer: Now one for if he's shot.
Tom Brokaw: Gerald Ford shot dead today at age 83.
Producer: Add the word senseless.
Tom Brokaw: Okay, Gerald Ford shot dead at the senseless age of 83. - ltkerr0r, on 10/12/2007, -7/+20Couldn't help but laugh. The title just reminded me too much of this SNL skit.

- Jdban, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Sad news. I received a letter from him yesterday, congratulating me for becoming an Eagle Scout. He will be missed.
- FreydNot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Things only happen in 3s if you stop counting after 3.
- RaysinX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11He just lived long enough to be the longest surviving President
- osuguy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12rip
- nixonrichard, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11It seems like respecting the office is very much UNLIKE a monarchy . . . you respect the office because of how hard you have to work to get there and the power that entrusted to that particular job. You most certainly don't need to respect a king . . . just obey silently.
Ford definitely had a trying presidency (not ever being elected, that Vietnam thing, and pardoning Nixon) but in the end he should be and is remembered as a good human being. He sincerely did what he thought was best for the country and for that he has my admiration and respect.
I saw Jimmy Carter talking about Ford and it is amazing and heartwarming to see the respect he has for his former opponent. Just like H.W Bush and Bill Clinton, when you see former bitter opponents be friends it reminds you that politics isn't as bad as it usually seems. We're all human beings and we're all in this together.
R.I.P. Ford - thetaco82, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Peter Boyle :(
- TSSaloic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Ok now the Will it Blend thing is dead.
This is your second memo. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11They always seem to come in 3's...
Who will be next? My money is on Abe Vigota. - Gerz1219, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Well, the pardon was part of the deal that saw Nixon resign gracefully instead of dragging the whole thing out in an ugly impeachment, so I don't think Ford can be faulted there. That said, I don't see how a president who only served for two years, never won an election, and had no major policy achievements could be considered the best ever. An exceptionally lucky man who could best be described as the Ringo Starr of presidents.
- Nar1117, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8What I meant was for people to realize that it isnt necessarily respectful to start bashing a suddenly dead president, just because his death brings his past life (and whatever he may have done in it) into view for many people. Feel free to discuss, obviously, but people should have some decency.
I remember when Reagan died in 2004, many people just started remarking on how bad a President he was. Some people were respectful, and many were not. Share your opinions, but have some respect while doing it. - Dakart, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Actually, it lasts for life.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Honestly, it hardly came up.
He was never elected to Pres or VP and that angered a lot of people. His first duty when entering office was to pardon Nixon.
Oh, and we (officially) lost the Vietnam Conflict while he was in office.
There was so much stuff going on that what he did in the office barely registered. - littlebylittle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Not the place for politics man.
- Toast1185, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6He was not in good health. Ford was supposed to dedicate a building here at U of M earlier this year, but was unable to attend. He was hospitalized, but the reports I heard said that he was doing well. This is sad.
- mhearne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'm not a Republican, but I really liked Gerald Ford. He would stroll out on the White House lawn every morning, and tell the reporters "Business As Usual".
For the first time in many years, there wasn't any crisis, and we could all feel safe and sleep in peace.
R.I.P. - obrysii, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6At least he lived a good life.
- eschreib, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8A former President of the Unites States has died, may he rest in peace.

You are a totally clueless moron. Ford is proof that our system works. He pardoned Nixon because this country was tearing itself apart over Watergate and the Viet Nam War. What you have to remember is that by accepting the pardon, Nixon was as much as admitting his guilt. The pardon was the best thing that Ford could have done for the country. - elroy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10ABC site is ugly. BBC version:

if he dies, we are holding you accountable. - TurtleBeoulve, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6He was delicious
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Ford was a good caretaker president. He probably would have beaten Carter had he not pardoned Nixon.

- died on the 34th anniversary of the death of another U.S. President, Harry S. Truman
more- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerald_Ford#Trivia - dukrous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The President is responsible for enforcing the laws as well as ratifying laws created by the Congress. All law enforcement agencies at some point report to the Office of the President.
Being critical of the occupant is one thing...but the Office needs to be respected for what it is. Disagreeing with the current President is alright, but out of respect for the office, it should be kept civil and rational. - dukrous, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8You have to respect the office. If the Office means nothing, then the rule of law goes with it, just as you should respect the House and Senate as well as the Courts. I do not mean genuflection, however...you can respect your peers, and it's that same idea that goes with the electable offices in our government.
