- athinnes, on 10/01/2009, -8/+34Somebody won't be Wang Chunging tonight.
- lebruf, on 07/16/2009, -3/+28He'll become even more of a Dongfan in prison.
- ennuisquared, on 07/16/2009, -6/+30Not only is he stealing space program material, he's also loves the *****.
- nomec182, on 07/17/2009, -0/+22Spy 'round here...
That Engineer is a spy!!! - Sakumi, on 07/17/2009, -3/+22I find it interesting that the spy is tried and sentenced for his actions, but as far as China goes.. we don't say a word (at least publicly).
Shouldn't the US be scolding China for the use of spies and such (even though we most likely do the exact same thing). - Berkana, on 07/17/2009, -1/+20Actually, we do our own scientific research for the most part.
For a country that graduates far more engineers and scientists per year than the US, China sure sucks at coming up with anything original. - LawScholar, on 07/17/2009, -0/+11Why you son of a bitch.
- NomortaL1, on 07/17/2009, -0/+10quality > quantity
- KMFDM781, on 07/17/2009, -1/+10Is first name is "Dongfan" and you pick "Wang Chung" to make fun of?
- vault, on 07/17/2009, -1/+10Yeah, scolding... "Bad China, stop spying on us, thanks."
Somehow I don't think that's going to do much. - EddiePotato, on 07/17/2009, -0/+9Who is your daddy, and what does he do?
- frieddonuts, on 07/17/2009, -5/+13they own our asses.
- EddiePotato, on 07/17/2009, -2/+10What evidence do you have that ethnicity has anything to do with the charges, other than that he is ethnically Chinese? Such knee jerk statements only serve to promote racism, not diminish it.
- Gusbob, on 07/17/2009, -1/+8Spy sapping mah rocket.
- Berkana, on 07/17/2009, -3/+10Yeah, stockpiling sensitive documents at your home after being given explicit instructions not to and being called out on it is being persecuted for one's race.
/sarcasm
China and China's supporters self-righteous attitudes stink. China can do no wrong, and is always the victim. ***** that.
(And yes, I'm ethnically Chinese.) - hpodity, on 07/17/2009, -0/+6Cold war 2! Radical!
- poisonborz, on 07/17/2009, -0/+5Are you kidding? Everybody, even the smallest countries have spies, it's nothing extraordinary. Scolding a country for this is like scolding for its inhabitants breathing air.
- TwwIX, on 07/17/2009, -0/+5You lack discipline!
- thecoolestguy, on 07/17/2009, -3/+7reflexively defending of this guy because he's Chinese?
- EddiePotato, on 07/17/2009, -0/+4You neglected to mention that you're extremely interested in science and programming.
- lebruf, on 07/17/2009, -0/+4I'm a cop you idiot!
- zantos420, on 07/17/2009, -0/+4it's called a copy machine.
- EddiePotato, on 07/17/2009, -1/+5Sometimes you need to take the road less traveled.
- Berkana, on 07/17/2009, -0/+4China would execute spies like that, that's for sure.
Ahem. HE'S NOT MONGOLIAN. - EddiePotato, on 07/17/2009, -0/+4Wolverines!
- morningmatters, on 07/17/2009, -0/+3Well, this sort of thing is bound to happen when half of the students at graduate levels are all non-US citizens. China has been under the spotlight due to political reasons for a long time now, but given the capitalistic nature of corporations here and the lack of loyality these corporations have for the employees (and vise versa) you can bet that there are tons of laid off workers selling what they know to foreign companies/nations.
- EddiePotato, on 07/17/2009, -1/+4I wish I was like you
easily amused - gantz9x, on 07/17/2009, -0/+3That spy is sappin my sentry!
- jinchoung, on 07/17/2009, -0/+3srsly... dong fan? lol... that's an unfortunate name for prison life....
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 07/17/2009, -1/+4Maybe, just maybe, our law enforcement (federal, state, and local) should be putting their time into issues of REAL national importance and security like catching this douche bag rather than pursuing a fruitless "war on drugs"?
After all, what's a bigger threat to the safety of Americans--some teenagers smoking pot or the Chinese building its own space shuttle and high end military weapons based on OUR designs?!
Ahem. - LawScholar, on 07/18/2009, -0/+2Unproductive isn't entirely accurate. Upper-end computer and military hardware is still primarily produced in the United States. We are a massive producer of refined goods, just not especially with basic ones.
- hasslinthehoff, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2It's nice to know that not only does China make everything we buy, but they officially now own the plans to everything we make. Bravo, U.S. Government. Bang up job.
- ryanonfire, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2Two can play at this game http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cf ...
- poprocket1, on 07/18/2009, -0/+2probably cost them less to steal information than to come up with something new.
- MonkeyNews, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2He is 73! - looks younger in the pic.
Also, Chinese spy?.....Fallout 3 baby! - LawScholar, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2"Boycott Chinese Goods"
Haha. Okay. How, exactly, considering their goods are in about 3/4 of everything we own?
Also, how do boycott's reduce international tensions? I fail to see the benefit. - yellowsnowcone, on 07/24/2009, -0/+1Lee Wen-ho did made the same security breach. There's no proof any of this material was given to China.
- gerbil20, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1America will never spy on anyone.
Yeah, right. Tui moment(tm). - Berkana, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1If you take a look at the article, there is a big difference:
_____________________________
The weekend detentions came amid contentious iron ore price talks between Rio and Chinese steel mills. But there has been no indication whether the case is linked to the negotiations. China's vague spying and national security laws give authorities wide latitude in deciding what to prosecute. The government treats a sweeping array of economic and other data as state secrets.
_____________________________ - sneakyness, on 07/17/2009, -3/+4Dongfan. Hah.
I'll be laughing about this for weeks. - zip000, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1Aw. Come on. You know that when you saw the name Dongfan you had at least a tiny inward smile.
I certainly won't be "laughing about this for weeks", but it is a funny name. - drazen77, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1Send a message. Execution is in order.
- Aeron, on 07/17/2009, -1/+2your unproductive country NEEDS China
- LawScholar, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1/s? I really hope /s. The dude stockpiled classified documents at his house. What else does he have to do before you'll suspect him, bomb the Capitol?
Oh, and THEY'RE. THEY'RE. THEY'RE. THEY'RE. ***** THEY'RE. - EddiePotato, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1Sure, I laughed a little. But it's hard to pass up a chance to quote Nirvana.
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1Where do you think OPIUM reached the highest level of use in the world?
China.
They haven't won their war on drugs any more than we have. No one ever does.
And they've been dealing with this issue for EONS. - inactive, on 07/17/2009, -3/+4***** China.
- WoWii, on 07/17/2009, -1/+2Death penalty right?
- gerbil20, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1But you do realize what it will mean to all those american "embassy workers" who suddenly (but safely) return home in the middle of their tour and get reassigned to domestic jobs? You do realize that by killing a foreign spy you break the status quo and put all american spies in jeopardy?
