Earth Clock - will keep you amused for a while...
celsias.com — Stats - as they say, read ‘em and weep.
- 1544 diggs

- Malarie, on 11/06/2007, -9/+36Wow...
Lets make the Recycling number go faster!!! Come on people!! Our homeland needs our help.- Archeologist, on 11/06/2007, -1/+21Direct link: http://www.poodwaddle.com/earthclock.swf
- insllvn, on 11/05/2007, -3/+5Conservationism is all well and good, but recycling is a sham. It wastes more than it preserves. Here I will let Penn and Teller explain: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-144439167 ...
- osarhan, on 11/05/2007, -1/+2ah but when oil is close to $100 a barrel things are very different!
- insllvn, on 11/05/2007, -1/+3The answer is not recycling so much as it is to eliminate excessive waste by ending our consumerist, disposable culture.
- maclaxguy, on 11/05/2007, -2/+2Ahh, the magicians are an excellent source.
- insllvn, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1NO but the sources they use are solid, and (as you might expect from performers) they do a good presentation.
- gl77, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1makes sense, when you think about all the energy it takes to run a recycling plant, it pretty much negates any good that can come of the end result.
- licoricewhip, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1In my location, the recycling program offered by the city for a fee (put your sorted recyclables out at the curb just like the trash) has a major flaw... it placed most of the recycling into the landfill anyway. The city also places receptacles around town where people can bring their recyclables (no fee). Those too go to the landfill. Then, on top of it all, the city will fine you if they find that you are tossing too many recyclable objects into the trash. Ironic. Typical government, though.
- osarhan, on 11/05/2007, -1/+2ah but when oil is close to $100 a barrel things are very different!
- sjl127, on 11/06/2007, -11/+2This is *****. The abortions are not lumped in with the deaths. False and misleading. buried for childish nonsense propaganda.
- Myonosken, on 11/05/2007, -1/+1Pot kettle black
- shinynew, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1where the ***** is the /sarcasm.
- roberto_deneero, on 11/06/2007, -3/+1STFU you hippie scumbag. Go back to Berkeley and streak the quad naked while protesting.
- dontencourageme, on 11/06/2007, -2/+59it should have the amount of minutes left before digg kills it
- Uranium118, on 11/05/2007, -3/+5It's killed now. So that would be about 14 minutes.
- dtd00d, on 11/06/2007, -2/+69We have more than 400 years of oil left? Since when?
[citation needed]- DiggsOnlyJew, on 11/05/2007, -1/+2http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0872964.html
- DangerCollie, on 11/05/2007, -1/+2I'm with you on that. Best data I've seen...figuring a 2% rise in demand...was less than 100 years to peak oil. I forget the guesstimate from peak oil to giant sucking sound, but it's a lot less than 400 years.
- AZooYorkMystery, on 11/05/2007, -0/+2That data made me feel a little better too. Considering there's 99 percent chance that we'll have an efficient hydrogen fuel car (or at least better means of getting reusable energy) that is definitely good info.
- JonnyTrombone, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1BMW has an efficient hydrogen car ready for production. Unfortunately, there aren't any stations to fill it up at. And it's an "executive" car, and is probably going to be pretty expensive.
- Wacer, on 11/06/2007, -0/+2This article I linked is a discussion with a Saudi Oil dude that is head of the exploration in Saudi Arabia and he states that number is bogus. All oil exporting nations and companies exaggerate their claims.

- asdfuiop, on 11/06/2007, -6/+32Perhaps I'm misinterpreting this stat, but there are WAY more than 3 million people worldwide with HIV/AIDS
- bigmrpig, on 11/06/2007, -3/+18It's deaths since the start of the year
- KennMac, on 11/05/2007, -1/+4Not deaths. Incidents and contractions.
- ChuqAU, on 11/05/2007, -1/+2Yeah, that would 3 million incidents this year. If you click YR/MTH/etc it will tell you how many this year/month/etc. or if you click NOW it will reset to zero and count from then.
- 7012, on 11/05/2007, -1/+2That figure is based on this year only.
- bigmrpig, on 11/06/2007, -3/+18It's deaths since the start of the year
- quomen, on 11/07/2007, -11/+5wtf is with this blog copying Digg's thumbs up and down buttons?
- osarhan, on 11/05/2007, -2/+1I've used them before !
- TJ11240, on 11/07/2007, -4/+4Celsias ***** rocks. Get out of here.
- Mast3rDigg3r, on 11/05/2007, -1/+5uhh their species extinct/ocean oil spills value is the same variable apparently...
- Catbert107, on 11/05/2007, -2/+3Which is why I'm claiming ***** hippie propaganda
- Lane, on 11/05/2007, -5/+10This needs to be on my sidebar.

- osarhan, on 11/05/2007, -2/+1thats the neardiest comment i've heard all day, but yeah its good
- Prometheus, on 11/05/2007, -0/+6Not to be a fanboy or anything, but Leopard Web Clips let's you add this in 5 sec. They actually make the dashboard useful.
- Morality, on 11/05/2007, -2/+2I 4rth that.
- richardhenry, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1Made a web clip. Dashboard FTW!
- Jazzillion, on 11/06/2007, -1/+18This originally appeared on Peter Russell's website, who is an amazingly prophetic physicist and philosopher. I really reccomend his articles and books (Aethists don't be discouraged just because he uses the word "God," it's a different context.)
Here is the link that has the option to download it as a PC app.:

- ghaltmann, on 11/05/2007, -0/+7Someone better input the numbers and press enter when that bitch runs out.

- sittered, on 11/05/2007, -0/+24 8 15 16 24 43.
- atari808, on 11/05/2007, -4/+3down
- mapkinase, on 11/05/2007, -2/+10It amused me for a while, they I started to weep, then the "problem loading page" page came.
- alabamasucks, on 11/06/2007, -6/+4430 years left til we run out of oil?!?! I knew I should of bought that Prius.
- DolphinGL, on 11/06/2007, -1/+9You also should HAVE paid more attention in English class.
- roberto_deneero, on 11/05/2007, -2/+1LOL Those are the ugliest cars in the history of the world....including the next 1000 years. What a FUGLY ass car!!! I cut off all Prius drivers every single chance I get. They think they're saving the world. So freakin funny. Meanwhile they're flooring it everywhere and not saving one ounce of gas or oil. They fail to have the brainpower to understand that their overpriced car will only "save" fuel/money if they feather the throttle, not jump on it like it's a pogo stick.
- doshindude, on 11/05/2007, -3/+4"Problem Loading Page" never ceases to amuse me!
- daxz, on 11/05/2007, -2/+0seems down. http://duggmirror.com
- daxz, on 11/05/2007, -4/+2duggmirror caught it: http://duggmirror.com
- gryphonauto, on 11/05/2007, -3/+3By the time we "run out of oil" we'll have found more & have plenty of alternative (probably nuclear related) energy sources.
- dcsr, on 11/05/2007, -1/+7And by that time we'll have either screwed the environment over to the point of no return or have found someway to kill ourselves.
- TridenTBoy, on 11/05/2007, -1/+4Haven't we already found a way to kill ourselves?
- dcsr, on 11/05/2007, -1/+7And by that time we'll have either screwed the environment over to the point of no return or have found someway to kill ourselves.
- bigmrpig, on 11/05/2007, -1/+3The number of species that have gone extinct is astonishing.
- Nick22, on 11/05/2007, -3/+3and probably inaccurate. according to this over 50 species go extinct a day. I highly doubt that, and if so, how many new species arrise every day? If that many species go extinct that quickly, surely there must be several new species popping up every day as well
- imgstacke, on 11/05/2007, -3/+3No the number of discovered species are not going up. The planet is in some seriously bad shape. Get used to it, and then do something about it.
- gl77, on 03/31/2008, -1/+2are you doing anything about it? i seriously doubt it since you are sitting here on digg telling other people to do something about it. i, for one dont really give a *****, theres not much difference i can make, it would take millions of people to put a dent in those statistics, son. i just dont know that many people, "that's why....i say.....***** it."
- mathmanjeffy, on 11/05/2007, -1/+1http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1594/is_6_1 ...

- JohnDavis730, on 11/05/2007, -1/+5anyone else notice how we've killed off the same amount of species of animals as gallons of oil spilled?

- Wacer, on 11/05/2007, -1/+1Ya that number is wrong. 300 Billion Barrels on that is just speculative. It's might not even exist.
- DimensionalPunk, on 11/05/2007, -1/+14Most depressing clock ever
- crashflow, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1yeah, no microsecond.

link - btm4k, on 11/05/2007, -5/+0Anyone else notice how the "World Population" does not take death into account?
- moyrai, on 11/05/2007, -1/+3Given a global birth rate of 20.09 per thousand and a death rate of 8.37 per thousand, the clock's population growth of about 2.45 people per second seems fairly accurate to me.

- daxsymbiont, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1oil depletion there doesn't say how important it is to have less oil *before* it's completely over. if it's even half of what it is today even with the same demand, and not risen as most probably, it'd be so expensive it'd be catastrophic without complete replacement of its use.
- KLowD9x, on 11/05/2007, -3/+5"Nuclear waste"
What a waste of a statistic. At least put something up there that matters, like "tons of industrial mercury dumped into the ocean". - cnschulz, on 11/06/2007, -1/+6"The connection has timed out"... get it... "timed out"... ha... because its a clock... ha... oh forget it!
- abdul88, on 11/05/2007, -1/+1http://www.yourecosource.com/blog/earth-clock/
- addictedidol, on 11/05/2007, -1/+2Thats bs, 22,751 species did not go extinct this year.
- sg7791, on 11/05/2007, -1/+3Did anyone else notice "Species Extinct" and "Ocean Oil Spills" are the same? That's either a coincidence or made-up stats...
- D3koy, on 11/05/2007, -1/+1I refuse to believe that 60 species went extinct today...

- KLowD9x, on 11/05/2007, -1/+2How can we, in 2049, have over 3000 units of oil left, but if switched over to 2050, we have -240 units of oil left?
Something is wrong here.- mathmanjeffy, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1We used up all the oil by the end of 2049?
- KLowD9x, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1Well, their units are "days".
- mathmanjeffy, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1We used up all the oil by the end of 2049?
- wispygalaxy, on 11/05/2007, -1/+12"Earth Clock - will keep you amused for a while..."
This is a misleading title. The clock kept me depressed for a while. - D3koy, on 11/05/2007, -0/+15INSUFFICIENT DATA FOR MEANINGFUL ANSWER
- HeidiRLynn, on 11/05/2007, -2/+0hey, why doesn't the link work for me?

- TailsTheMan, on 11/05/2007, -2/+1Incredible
- Heelz, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1Every time an oil tanker crashes, a species dies. And vice versa.
- BMANZZS, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1Anyone else notice that the "week" and "day" tabs are both the same?
- crashflow, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1Its a new week. so still on the first day.
- akashra, on 11/05/2007, -1/+3400 years of oil left? Earth only 7,000 years old?
Yah right. - viper565, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1Well, considering that in 1998, 99.9% of all living species in the world were extinct, I think that we're making a lttle progress.
Maybe. - vorbalhorde, on 11/05/2007, -0/+0Kind of a worthless Week tab on Sundays
- toetagger, on 11/05/2007, -1/+1FUD
- Wacer, on 11/05/2007, -1/+1This one is better. It has much more details about the world.

- kd1s, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1Oil remaining in reserves is interesting. It comes out to 429 years. Something up with that!
- SarcasticCynic, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1Amused? Can't wait for oil to end.
- slipdisc2, on 11/05/2007, -3/+2Kevin Rose ***** sucked
