Digg Townhall Tonight!
Tune into the live Digg townhall tonight at 5:00pm PST/8:00pm EST.
Digg Should Be Burried
talhost.net — Dr Horrible ’s Sing-Along Blog is without a doubt worthy of being called popular all over the internet, appearing on the front page of the LA Times, TIME, MSN.com and many many more places and within 24 hours shot to #1 on iTunes TV downloads (people parting with hard earned cash!) clearly popular - but not with the digg PTB !?
- 95 diggs
- digg it
- viewdrix, on 07/18/2008, -0/+7The problem is that the original story with over 1600 votes (http://digg.com/television/Official_Website_for_Dr ... ) has accumulated that number slowly over the last 20 days, which means it got voted for at a rate of only 80 posts a day as people slowly learned of the project elsewhere and THEN tried to support it via Digg. The Digg algorithm clearly does not promote stories that gain a significant number of votes days after it's been submitted. Whether that's a problem (I believe it is) or not is up to you, but I don't think it's a vast conspiracy. On the other hand, when it was created, it was nothing but the official website going up - with no real content on it except a poster and a teaser. I could see that getting buried.
Of course, the second story, which got more than 300 votes (http://digg.com/television/Dr_Horrible_s_Sing_Alon ... ) in far less amount of time (and when I saw it on the day of submission, having already collected a significant majority of those votes) is probably the story that SHOULD have made the front page. Act 2's gotten far less votes (http://digg.com/television/Dr_Horrible_s_Sing_Alon ... ), so I do notice how this story isn't crying foul over that. - worldofhiglet, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4I've seen lots of people complain about the algorithm and the fact that Digg puts stories with few Diggs on the front page while other upcoming stories miss out. Only Digg know why for sure, but I am surprised that Dr Horrible hasn't made a dent on Digg so far. The last episode is out at midnight EST tonight, so we'll see what happens then!
- RTourn, on 07/19/2008, -0/+2I don't think it's the number of diggs, but a rate. 100 diggs in a few minuets seem to kick you up to the front page in a few minutes. 400 digs in 40 days isn't so hot.
- MSF2, on 07/19/2008, -0/+3Yes the original didn't get all 1600 votes in a short span of time like digg likes, but both act 1 and 2 did get almost 200 diggs in less then 24 hours. That should have gotten them on the front page.
