- dankyphil, on 10/10/2007, -15/+50Chernobyl = Silent Hill???
- Neiby, on 10/10/2007, -4/+34No. Chernobyl = S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
- antique, on 10/10/2007, -5/+13reminds me more of Half Life 2
- crushfan, on 10/10/2007, -8/+4You don't have such a bright memory then.
- srg13, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It was set in a run down eastern European city - so it should.
- Looc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Silent Hill is about a coal mine fire, that was also real
- cryptomystic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17Silent Hill is based on Centralia, PA
- bagboyrebel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4only in the movie
- Touchy610, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Centralia actually was abandoned (mostly) because of undergroudn mine fires that are still active today.
- bagboyrebel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4only in the movie
- billbacon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I thought those were screen shots from Silent Hill V.
- Frnnkdlxx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm guessing the person who took this photo is dying now?
- brotherfranciz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Reminds me of the movie "Children of Men".
- tamarindwolf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Have to agree the pics are creepy. But they don't scare me :(
- cruzlee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Chernobyl = Russia? Strange. Always thought it was in the Ukraine...
- Import98, on 10/10/2007, -3/+32Some nice pics. To me, the picture quality adds to the creepiness.
- Angostura, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Well they were certainly very very heavily processed to make them appear atmospheric. Artificial grain anyone?
- Jugalator, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20To me, the photoshopping detract from the creepiness. Seriously leave them as they are, and if they still look bad, then they indeed are.
Case in point:
1. http://blog.ifi.ch/wp-content/MagnumInMotionChernobyl.jpg
2. http://members.greenpeace.org/gpblog/media/104097/chernobyl.jpg
3. http://www.blainekendall.com/uploads/blog/chernobyl.jpg- Mike89, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4wtf, is the last one real?
- whatthefu, on 10/10/2007, -14/+7Dugg for interesting pictures, but then again pictures of Chernobyl hit the front page every 2 months now it seems.
- FatherG, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15Better to be constantly reminded of the disaster rather than risk forgetting and repeating it.
- malaak, on 10/10/2007, -6/+3how about once a year instead....
- mhender, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I don't know, apparently we need to be reminded every 20 minutes that someone likes their new Mac and writes an inane review on it.
- malaak, on 10/10/2007, -6/+3how about once a year instead....
- FatherG, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15Better to be constantly reminded of the disaster rather than risk forgetting and repeating it.
- shibbz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+30Very well done pictures. I personally found the doll and the gas mask ones to be the creepiest.
- Daniel001, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Unfortunately a lot of that stuff its just put there by the photographer, or at least moved, for added creepiness.
- AriaStar, on 10/10/2007, -10/+6My boyfriend is from a town in Ukraine an easy drive away, and there now to visit his father. I asked him to bring back a handful of soil (I like sand/dirt from foreign places), and he told me it probably wouldn't be allowed due to contamination. Now that I think about it, the contamination where he is right now is probably from Chernobyl.
- queraxus, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13You're not the brightest, are you AriaStar?
- shabuzen, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2That is why most scientists are men.
- AriaStar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I didn't realize how close his hometown was to Chernobyl before looking it up today. I'm not as familiar with Ukrainian geography as with US geography. I presumed any number of things could have contaminated the soil. If in the US we have soil contaminated by pesticides and whatnot, I'm pretty sure the same is possible there.
- jeremymccurdy, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3Why the hell would you collect dirt?
- AriaStar, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11A more unique souvenir than a key chain or something. To be able to literally touch part of the country of the soil's origin.
- mhender, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Kudos for AriaStar for keeping her cool while you guys bash her. I would have just told you guys to ***** right off.

- brianbb98, on 10/10/2007, -8/+1wow pizzler... you'll single handedly cause the need for a picture section! :)
- stephengotlost, on 10/10/2007, -7/+11Next summer, i'm heading there to kill strelok
- Neiby, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2People must not be getting the reference.
- bossm4n, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Looks like a movie set for a zombie flick, of course those zombies would glow in the dark.
- stephengotlost, on 10/10/2007, -10/+1Next Year, I'm heading there to kill Strelok
- wawilli, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Link dies in 4 minutes. wft?

Caught a few.- Smeed, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I remember when dugg mirror caught most of everything :(
- kyleforeman, on 10/10/2007, -6/+2Inspiration for the game fallout.
- Chicken001, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5FAIL. STALKER.
- egthareal, on 10/10/2007, -14/+1boring... I SAID BORING
- Namakemono, on 10/10/2007, -2/+41You should've seen it AFTER the disaster.
- heliox, on 10/10/2007, -12/+3Were these picture BEFORE the disaster?
- adz999, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I don't know whats funnier your comment or heliox stupidity!
- heliox, on 10/10/2007, -6/+2Stupidity?? How about sarcasm asshat?
- mhuggins, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You suck at sarcasm then.
- heliox, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1You're a moron....these picture are AFTER the disaster.
- mhuggins, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You suck at sarcasm then.
- heliox, on 10/10/2007, -6/+2Stupidity?? How about sarcasm asshat?
- mhuggins, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I see what you did there
- heliox, on 10/10/2007, -12/+3Were these picture BEFORE the disaster?
- ryodoan, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1http://duggmirror.com !
- holysocks, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9just play S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
- dissident, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3just started playing it last week.. great game.
- facelogic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It's really amazing, seeing these pics, how good of a job the dev team did in virtually recreating the Chernobyl environment.
- MutatedNantuko, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yeah, as much as I resented feeling it, I pretty much went "Seen it before" whenever I saw those buildings, ferris wheel, and the building itself.
- dissident, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3just started playing it last week.. great game.
- thestorey, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21http://todayspictures.slate.com/inmotion/essay_chernobyl/
Really good info on it all and better pics.- Grimshaw9, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3This should be an article all on its own.
- AutomaticPixel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4This was one of the most touching and most difficult things to watch without crying
- greeneyedmama, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Thank you for sharing that. Haunting and sad. Keeps me grounded.
- BabyWookie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I had a niece who died from "Chernobyl Heart" when she was two and another niece and a nephew who still live near the contaminated zone, where thyroidectomies are a routine procedure at the local hospitals and children constantly get sick because their immune systems are killed by the radiation. The US government won't let the come and live with me here in the States. :(
- wassim2k, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The Hills have Eyes 3
- gllopc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5The goggles... they do nothing!
- fictionalOne, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Lookout!...Radioactive man.
- Impius, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2That is beauitful!
- CrudeDarkness, on 10/10/2007, -7/+0Bioshocked
- AphyX, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9It's scary how similar some of those pictures are to some of the places in S.T.A.L.K.E.R, The designers really did do a good job of capturing the atmosphere and feel of it. I guess its time for me to replay it.
- Chicken001, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1They did. The last 4 before the last image really remind me of that place you had to defend of the Bandits in the beginning.
- crapmatic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Hmm... needs randomly interspersed pictures of mysterious Ukrainian girl on motorcycle.
- l0rd, on 10/10/2007, -6/+2My father actually went to Chernobyl about 5 years ago for work.
(He is a photographer.)
He actually went to the excluded zone, and it wasn't as bad as these pics.
I can tell you, those images were photoshopped. Grainy film would do some of what I saw, but some of those effects were from photoshop filters.
I know they were probably real, as three or four days before the reactor exploded, there was supposed to be a national holiday.- OnlyShawn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1ultra hi iso photographs, gray day....seems reasonable that they wouldn't look exactly like your father's pictures.
- hairyblue, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5if youve played the game S.T.A.L.K.E.R then it feels really weird seeing the real places. they captured it so well
- RollFizzlebeef, on 10/10/2007, -9/+2In Soviet Russia, you creep photos out.
- WallnutBoy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Fail.
- vancityguy, on 10/10/2007, -5/+0Had to bury it...only cause person posting said I havent seen some of these pics before...well, theyre not new pics...although theyre very interesting.
- bbcountach, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3PHOTOS! (pics)
the future titles of digg. - matthewf01, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Buried for subtly reminding Digg about HDR...
- netcowboy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2How many times do I have to see these images? They make the rounds on the Internet every few months.
- bazik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3creepy? i would say noisy... your backyard would seem creepy if u add that much noise to photos.
- Angostura, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Precisely
- crapmatic, on 10/10/2007, -4/+0Chornobyl was Chernobyl, Now it's Chornobyl, not Chernobyl
Been a long time gone, Chernobyl, now it's Ukrainian delight on a moonlit night - Roninsama, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2it's funny how these pix are popular here at digg, but not on the Media. Heck, i didn't knew what Chernobyl was before, thanks to digg ^ ^
- selrom18, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Just like you did not knew how to spoke.
- BabyWookie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Gotta love the US education system!
- veronicame, on 10/10/2007, -5/+0That is beauitful!
http://lallunepal.com/ - netcowboy, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1I'm sorry, but a story that essentially says "You may have seen this somewhere before" is not digg-worthy. Submit something new and original.
- jkizzle, on 10/10/2007, -9/+1this is fake. why would there be an american stop sign in the ussr...
- Dotmeister, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Because they are international signs?
- tactix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Oh your a muppet. Its not an "American" stop sign at all. The worlds roads would be a disaster if each country had its own style, hence a standard. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_sign
- TheDowntownKing, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1why does it have to be an overcast day?
- themattreid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0there are no sunny days in Cherbnobyl
- icsbase, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1In Soviet Russia, the Cherbnobyl pictures you.
- void, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2just awful...
- PdxPhoenix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1@ l0rd
It happened in late April....The "holiday" was May Day... May 1st. - chiggah, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Amazing how much accurately S.T.A.L.K.E.R render it's map according to actual site.
- Chicken001, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Indeed. Last few pictures, craves me to play the game again.
- razorart, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0i kinda hoped to see a pic of godzilla...
- elhaf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It's exactly what they said our post-apocalyptic future would look like.
- Chicken001, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4GET OUT OF HERE STALKER.
- dododohead, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0i was hoping more people would get the reference!
- rwillis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I feel like I've been there... Oh yeah I played Stalker
- sonar1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1am i the only one who realizes there are chernobyl pictures every month?
- tactix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0It always amazes me that in the lack of a human presence (looting and vandalism aside) how buildings etc decay so quickly. I find the most creepy thing is that if we all decided to stop mowing our lawns, clean the gutters, and repaint / repair buildings, how dilapidated things would become in a hurry
- sohlemac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You should drive through Detroit. It looks like this most of the time.
- Babygirl86, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0That's just Mother Nature taking everything back into the earth. Repairing what we have done like the trees coming up through the cement steps and etc....
- wisie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1wow not HDR!
Very nice shots - JoHnxXxKIddxXx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3anything is creepy when you add Grain in photoshop..
DUH!!- LynchMOB, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1THANK YOU!!! I was waiting for somebody to notice. I have seen the pics before and they are good.... but Photoshop has made them look a liitle worse then they are.
- mhender, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- kb7735, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Buried as inaccurate. I'm gonna go there and take some sunny day, sharp, non-grainy photos of beautiful flowers and wildlife. It's probably way nicer than it appears, and possibly more picturesque and healthier than urban places around my neck of the woods.
- WoozyDuck, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Best place to shoot next version of SAW the movie! lol
