- existentialduck, on 12/20/2008, -3/+153say NO to censorship!!
- iamamaniac, on 12/20/2008, -6/+62It's not surprising that they view western media as a menace that should be controlled.
- michaelpinto, on 12/20/2008, -1/+52Then why not block Fox News?
- inactive, on 12/20/2008, -6/+53I see several apparent right wingers in this thread are all for state censorship if it's of a publication they don't like. Aren't these guys all up in arms about how sacred the principles of the US constitution are in the threads about Obama's citizenship?
- greenfyre, on 12/20/2008, -1/+40In hard times people need humour, the Government understands that.
- americangenius, on 12/20/2008, -8/+46dugg and stumbled
- grungegbunny, on 12/20/2008, -2/+38***** censorship.
- drizzlelicious, on 12/20/2008, -2/+34Welcome to what happened with Time, BBC, Google, Youtube, Wikipedia, Geocities, Angelfire, etc, etc, etc. I used to live in China. All of these websites get banned every once in a while, and for some reason, unbanned after several months. Heck, my university website was banend when I tried to apply.. I had to use a proxy. Welcome to China.
- pjosemroy, on 12/20/2008, -2/+28Things are getting worse there, these are just signs!
http://digg.com/world_news/China_s_Business_Nosedi ... - Eric1285, on 12/20/2008, -1/+24Without Fox News how will I know what I'm supposed to be thinking?
- vsujohn2, on 12/20/2008, -3/+24"I wish Unites States would follow in Chinese footsteps."
Hell NO! - inactive, on 12/20/2008, -2/+22Because they aren't saying the government should force Fox News to go away? I guess some might be saying that, but they're boneheads too. Freedom of the press means freedom of it even for those you don't agree with.
- pintomp3, on 12/20/2008, -1/+20because rupert murdoch has a deal with them. besides, fox news is ideal for fascists.
- Khiva, on 12/20/2008, -4/+21Can't name a single Chinese newspaper? What kind of a dumbass counterexample is that? What, if anything, does it prove if people from one country don't regularly follow the media in another, particularly if its in a foreign language, and especially if its a tightly controlled organ of state propaganda?
Seriously, I don't hold it against a Frenchman for not watching Fox News. - gibson85, on 12/20/2008, -9/+26why would americans want to know about propagandist media outlets?
- inactive, on 12/20/2008, -0/+17Wait, doesn't Reddit dislike us :[?
- michaelpinto, on 12/20/2008, -4/+20More like the other ay around: "Although all Cuban media is rigorously state controlled, the government rejects accusations that it is censoring the net. It concedes that some sites are blocked, but say these are "terrorist, xenophobic, or pornographic". Websites based in the US which publish articles by dissidents from within Cuba are generally inaccessible."

Look for yourself - miggyb, on 12/20/2008, -2/+16What the hell is wrong with you, vinnyvenus? You want the US to block access to sites you don't agree with? What are you going to do when it starts blocking sites you DO agree with, and there's nobody around to support you?
- dissolutionman, on 12/20/2008, -3/+16I thought they had a deal, just as long as they kept turning over dissenters.
- Carlix, on 12/20/2008, -0/+12I think there's something wrong in your formula there.
- Khiva, on 12/20/2008, -5/+17I don't see why the Chinese government is at all worried. Based on my experiences living in China, every single Chinese person (particularly the young) is already brainwashed into knee-jerk rejection of any foreign media that dares to mention a negative aspect of the glorious motherland. Seeing critical foreign media doesn't enlighten them to alternative viewpoints, it only makes them angrier and more convinced that the whole world is part a nefarious conspiracy out to "get" China.
Diggers might be misreading this. I wouldn't be surprised if the government was shutting down the NYT to keep the folks from rioting, rather than to keep them in the dark. - dissolutionman, on 12/20/2008, -1/+11"Say no to communist New York Times, follow in Chinese footsteps!"
*****. - crit1caL, on 12/20/2008, -1/+10*** ** **** ******* *** **** * **** ** ** ********
- Infowarsdotcom, on 12/20/2008, -2/+11*With the help of Google.
- spidur1, on 12/21/2008, -4/+13Wow, the Chinese government is the worst. It just makes me sick that we continue to do so much economic trading with them and that the world allowed them to the host the Olympics. It is just sad, terribly sad.
- inactive, on 12/21/2008, -2/+10I was going to say something about how communism, socialism and liberalism are completely different things, often violently opposed to each other, despite how the ralk radio mentality lately assumes they're all the same thing. But you can't even spell communist, so I realized I'd just be wasting my time.
- Kvasaari, on 12/20/2008, -5/+13I can't say I'm a big fan of nytimes.com, but censoring it doesen't help.
- tech42er, on 12/21/2008, -0/+8I understand you're either a) trying to be funny, b) an attention whore, or c) both and digging you down is exactly what you want, but ***** censorship!
- LeekMibles, on 12/21/2008, -0/+8yep, you're absolutely right. The guys digging you down are either people that don't/haven't lived out here or Chinese citizens.
- zerton, on 12/21/2008, -0/+8what cuban websites can't you see?
- zuiquan, on 12/20/2008, -4/+11That's silly. Why would anyone need to know the name of a state sponsored propaganda machine when the West is awash in free news outlets that can print whatever they want? I'd rather get my news from the ***** that is the Sun than Xinhua.
- atgmac, on 12/21/2008, -0/+7[This comment has been deleted by the People's Republic of China]
- baskingnoob, on 12/21/2008, -0/+7Some day China is going to block the internet
- mewoot10, on 12/21/2008, -5/+12I find it funny that The New York Times wrote this article.
- dissolutionman, on 12/20/2008, -3/+10I always knew that they were secret commies. What else explains their obsession with red?
- Mrlncognito, on 12/21/2008, -1/+8Trash Leaders = True
Communist Country = True
Trash Country = ***** You
How can you call a country with such amazing culture and history *****? Oh wait, its because your stupid, close minded and the only thing you really know about China is ***** you read off digg... It has only to do with censorship issues and past Olympic issues, something you can bitch about.
America had ***** ***** leaders, you make the worst ***** cars and look at what you did to our global economy...Does that make your country trash? Hell No, but its dumbass ignoramuses like you that make people hate America.
The Communist government can go ***** themselves twice...But to say the country is *****...Well shows how much you know about life. Go back to your trailer, or your ranch, or you cardboard box...Or get a passport and see the world... - mavere, on 12/20/2008, -1/+8I'm not sure what kind of a person you think you care (and I don't mean this as an insult) but if you're comparing NYT's political viewpoints to child pornography and nazism to justify its censorship, I think you should take a step back and reexamine your ideological priorities.
- duckyinc, on 12/20/2008, -1/+8say that a thousand times more on digg, new york times, bbc and stumbleupon. Coincidentally all sites banned by china LOL
- EntangledPhysx, on 12/20/2008, -4/+11Although I don't like the NYTimes, censoring them because of the liberal propaganda is against conservative and right-wingers philosophy. Conservative-types want open information and no censorship. By censoring them, vinnyvenus, would be a very liberal tactic--the same tactics we want to seperate ourselves from. The liberal-inspired "Fairness" Doctrine anyone?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairness_Doctrine - Chainheart2, on 12/20/2008, -4/+10Digg or our government? Both being equally stupid ideas.
- inactive, on 12/21/2008, -0/+5Story about the one newspaper's relationship with the Chinese? Mass Dugg. Story about the future of their reserves?
http://digg.com/world_news/U_S_debt_approaches_ins ...
Likely to be ignored (just like Ron Paul was ignored when he spoke the truth about money) even though it's a serious issue. - peters1023, on 12/21/2008, -2/+8really? Because as far as i'm concerned most "news" sites and sources are exactly that..... biased and you need to read from many sources if you are going to consider yourself educated. shut up. You are a complete idiot if you think you've found something truly objective.
- tech42er, on 12/21/2008, -0/+6Because China under Mao was so much better. If the Gang of Four hadn't been overthrown, China would be *****. Deng Xiaoping sure as hell wasn't perfect, but he liberalized China to a great degree and made it rich and powerful. There were costs, chiefly social unrest and incredible environmental destruction, but at least it repudiated the disastrous economic policies of the "Great Leap Forward" and the social policies of the "Cultural Revolution".
- getoffmybridge, on 05/05/2009, -2/+8Hank Hill: The New York Times Magazine? Published by the New York Times Newspaper? Oh, Bobby!
Bobby Hill: I wasn't reading the articles! - ljkelley, on 12/20/2008, -0/+5I'm glad you felt the need to compare the NY Times to Nazi Ideology and Child Pornography. In fact I think its more Nazi to censore something.
And in addition you sound like the religious right when they compare Homosexuality to Child Pornography.
I don't see how abusing Chilrdern that generally have not given their consent or are to young and naive to understand to adults writing material and adults buying that material.
People like you is whats turning Scandinavia slowly into something wrong... Iceland is already suffering from the "Do whatever you want mentality, and that Government Censorship or Regulation of Crime is akin to Nazism and Communisum". I'm sorry there is a HUGE difference between stopping fraud and child abuse to stopping the free press weither it be Fox News or NY TImes. - StewVader, on 12/20/2008, -7/+12These ***** suck...
