Not exactly how I pictured it. No evil laughing, the crowd isn't screaming... - acegi, on 02/06/2009, -4/+89say what you will about bill gates. he's still doing heck a lot more than jobs ever done for the humanity.
- beeleg, on 02/06/2009, -6/+53I don't want to just tell my kids about Bill Gates the Business Man. I will tell them about Bill Gates My Hero!
- inactive, on 02/06/2009, -3/+47say what you want about windows, i still love bill gates.
- CanceledCzech, on 02/07/2009, -5/+37"... my favorite is to look at childhood deaths..."
You heard it here, Bill Gates like watching babies die! - Blant, on 02/07/2009, -0/+27I know right? The audience laughed pretty hardcore, and I saw no one getting up and running for the door .
- FredFredrickson, on 02/07/2009, -5/+29Not that Internet Explorer is great, but Netscape was ***** anyway.
- DjOverEZ, on 02/07/2009, -2/+26What are you talking about? The new Macbooks are "green."
Sarcasm. - BBarash, on 02/06/2009, -1/+22I didn't expect the talk to be as good as it was. It was engaging, informative and entertaining. Gates gets my vote on this one.
- martyFREEDOM, on 02/06/2009, -10/+30Gates for president 2016
- doshindude, on 02/07/2009, -1/+17but netscape then got revenge with mozilla.
- YumYumTruck, on 02/07/2009, -2/+17yeah, I thought he would be wearing a large coat, say something bad ass, and then throw the sides of the coat away, freeing a swarm of giant mosquitoes that could block out the sun.
- Ymeg, on 02/06/2009, -1/+16If only there was some cheap, effective chemical that could kill mosquitoes...
Good Job, Bill. Keep it up. - inactive, on 02/07/2009, -1/+15I like him too. I liked him even when he was just a Business man.
- bpwrinn, on 02/07/2009, -0/+14Dugg for his talk about teaching. I think I'm going to put up a camera in my classroom, and invite other teachers to do the same!
- AlienMushroom, on 02/07/2009, -3/+17Netscape was the worst browser I have ever come across.
- ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -0/+13There are some things more important in life than 3D kids movies.
- buzzben, on 02/06/2009, -1/+14Anyone sitting there thinking about Microsoft or Web Development during this speech has much bigger issues than either a swarm of mosquitoes or IE's non-compliance with web standards to deal with.
Pathetic. - sidianmsjones, on 02/06/2009, -1/+14Or if it just got tweeted by Kevin Rose himself?
...which it just did.
Anyway, word to your poweruser comment. All that BS is why I 'digg' Reddit. - norbiu, on 02/06/2009, -0/+12College is overrated.
- compgeek, on 02/07/2009, -0/+12lol at not only poor people should have the experience. That was classic
- Pake, on 02/07/2009, -4/+15Doesn't mean it's not running Windows.
- etx313, on 02/07/2009, -0/+10Ted's house, Not Bill's house.
- newsboys, on 02/07/2009, -0/+10Nothing but respect for this man, as well as Warren Buffet. Warren Buffet gave 83% of his wealth to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation even though he had his own charity, because he thought it was doing a much better job than his own charity. That takes a lot of humility - a true philanthropist.
So when are we going to see Steve Jobs help out the world a little with his 5 Billion? Didn't think so. - mca1990, on 02/07/2009, -0/+10He's hinting at DDT for all of you who missed it. It's a damn shame because my parents grew up chasing the smoke trucks on their bike and I turned out fi-vreeeeeeeyooooooo
- drex8, on 02/06/2009, -1/+10Wow the video started so loud and abruptly, it kind of startled me and fellow colleagues working nearby.
Btw "About Bill Gates" FTA: "A passionate techie and a shrewd businessman"...so true. I'm glad he's using his shrewd business and entrepreneurial skills in the world of philanthrophy. Organizations involved in philanthrophy could use some of that, and learn from his successful business experience. - Norse77, on 02/07/2009, -0/+7learn to spell
- silent128, on 02/07/2009, -1/+8Very good speech. And a great point that we eliminated malaria from all the first world country's and then banned the chemical(Yes i know ddt is bad).
- inactive, on 02/07/2009, -0/+7Who's TED anyways?
- sKiLLa182, on 02/07/2009, -2/+9Unleashed the mosquitoes on the audience @ 05:10
- ryleyleckie, on 02/06/2009, -1/+8oh right perfect opportunity to bitch about digg again
- idmclaren, on 02/07/2009, -0/+7I hope I'm not being inappropriate here, but since it's on the same site, I thought I'd mention a great charity, Partners for Others. http://www.ned.com/group/pfo/
I was helping this charity build some storage for their shipping containers this last winter, and it's really amazing to see the stuff they are able to do. Compared to charities that are able to get maybe 10% of donated money to actually HELP the people in need (after administration costs and all that), they are at more like 90% getting to the needy.
It seems to me that there are SO many people out there looking to help out, they just feel that not enough of the money they donate actually gets to the people in need. When people see how efficient these people are, they are more willing to donate. It's pretty amazing.
Sorry that this is a positive message on Digg, so maybe I'll get dugg down for it, it's just really amazing to see all the good people can do with the help of others. Don't see much of that anymore.
EDIT: I don't want to say that this is the only charity that is good, there are tons out there. I just thought I'd mention them :) It seems there's a lot of great people on ted.com - sadisticmind, on 02/07/2009, -3/+10i was expecting MTV Unplugged. bill gates on acoustic guitar
- yocouchdigga, on 02/07/2009, -0/+6awkwardly.
- CanceledCzech, on 02/07/2009, -0/+6Why? Are you his dad?
- marksands07, on 02/06/2009, -1/+7he's Bill Gates
- Solacer, on 02/07/2009, -1/+7Good speech.
- longbow486, on 02/07/2009, -1/+7the only thing i think i actually liked about Netscape was that it had a built in HTML editor
- bpwrinn, on 02/07/2009, -1/+6periods are nice I like periods they help me organize my thought into separate thoughts so people can understand what I'm saying you know what I mean?
- SMFB, on 02/07/2009, -3/+8not exactly the "swarm" I had previously heard about
- skinflute, on 02/07/2009, -1/+6Bundle the cure with Windows?
- norbiu, on 02/06/2009, -12/+17What's with the Mac in the background?
- etx313, on 02/07/2009, -0/+4Great to know he is using his good fortune to help others. I've read many other articles about how charitable Bill is. Good man.
- brandnewx, on 02/07/2009, -0/+4Or 2012.
- ArchAngel21x, on 02/07/2009, -2/+6If we are serious about improving education, then lets bust up the teachers unions. They have no interest in making education better. It's a self serving group that only wants pay raises, lower standards, and more hoops that have to be jumped through in order to fire a bad teacher. Oh, and tenure is a joke. Being somewhere X amount of years should never make anyone exempt from being fired.
- Kakumeikeahi, on 02/07/2009, -1/+5Such a disappointment..
- Culyt, on 02/07/2009, -1/+5That is way too old to be an Intel Mac. So no its not running Windows.
- homercles337, on 02/07/2009, -4/+8God damn it, i hate videos that start automatically.
- grobarpartizan, on 02/07/2009, -0/+4My math teacher did it and got in a lot of trouble. You should ask the administration first.
