- IslamicHorrors, on 01/11/2008, -2/+31I am so tired of the democrats thinking we need the government to control EVERYTHING.
- AntiHegelian, on 01/11/2008, -1/+28Today it's for emergencies...next week it's for the ozone.
- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -1/+25Nope. No way. Not in this Californian's home. Ain't gonna happen. There will be no government remotely controlled devices in my home. I'll do without the utility companies and put in propane tanks and solar panels. Enough is enough.
- Barbrady, on 01/11/2008, -1/+25Nanny state!
- these3remain, on 01/11/2008, -1/+17Wow, Californians need to draw a line in the sand and let their voices be heard to the Energy Commission there, their legislators and, of course, Ahh-Nold. This is just one more example of how the global warming fanatics are forcing their TRUE agenda onto freedom loving Americans - the road to One World Religion and One World Government is paved with "good intentions" that are truly evil.
- ROaks, on 01/11/2008, -0/+16This is all a bunch of baloney. This whole global warming/conservation thing is a Marxist plot, I mean it. They were unable to defeat the US in two world wars as well as all the other skirmishes we have been involved in. Think about it, everything that is suggested to clean the environment or to save us from the warming will cost so much that the economy will suffer. That can be seen now with the ethanol thing. Look at what is happening to the price of corn. Since small business is the back bone of our economy. It will cost so much to comply with the government mandates that some businesses will have to close their doors. Some will try to comply but to finance it they will have to lay people off. Others that can, will pass the cost of complying on to consumers, resulting in reduced sales and then lay offs, then the closing of the doors. No jobs, no economy and then we are dead as a nation. The Marxist win.
As a kid in the 50s and 60s, before any of this was even thought about it was instilled in me to turn off lights when leaving a room, make sure you turned of the water, that it wasn't dripping after using. We didn't have air conditioning when I was a kid, however, in the winter, I was told we are not trying to heat the outside, SHUT THE DOOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!. So what I'm saying is this whole conservation thing is a scam. The number of people that leave lights burning, leave water running, Leave doors/windows open in an air conditioned house. That run up and down the roads in their cars/SUVs burning fuel on numerous runs that could be done in one trip is so small the waste negligible(yes, a waste non the less, I understand). Just understand those that waste pay for it in their utility bills and at the pump. We are being scammed. There is no science to back up the eco's propaganda only consensus. People really need to wake and start thinking. The people of the distant past would get a big laugh out of us for being so gullible as to believe all of this propaganda and giving up our freedoms and individualism. It is coming down to the fact I was born about 250 years to late. Even so Lord Jesus come quickly. And that is just the way it is. - joQQeb, on 01/11/2008, -1/+17First it was the "water saving toilet", then the CFL bulbs. The first was an unmitigated disaster as you have to flush three times a often to accomplish the same job. The second is certain to cause massive pollution problems once the mercury in them leaches into the ground water from the land fills they will eventually end up in. Now mandatory disconnection of your appliances whenever some bureaucratic idiot thinks your home is getting more than its fair share of the power. Will the last one to leave California please turn off the lights. Oh, never mind, they'll do it for you!
- dlbfromLA, on 01/11/2008, -1/+15When the Electric Company and/or government pays my Utilities Bill each month I might consider letting them control my thermostat. The more I think about that "Hell No" not in my house either!!!
- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -2/+14This is not just a "nanny state" irritation. We are in a headlong rush to fascism, folks. Time to wake up.
- LifeguardMom, on 01/11/2008, -1/+12Maybe the book "1984" should be entitled "2008". Big Brother government is becoming more of a reality every day, and it scares the crap out of me.
Yes, I would love to be able to have a "greener" house. But the costs of the changes would bankrupt us right now. Maybe after we put 4 kids through college we can go solar. But it should be MY choice to do so!
Liberals are so adamant about "choice" when it comes to abortion, but when it comes to personal property and environmental issues, choice goes out the window and we are forced to comply. It's like the Borg from Star Trek - "resistance is futile. You will be assimilated". - inactive, on 01/11/2008, -3/+14You think it's just the democrats? The people who want to control everything is not limited to the Democratic party. They have infiltrated and control the Republican party as well. We truly have a one-party system with 2 names that gives the illusion of a choice between two parties.
- smileyelly, on 01/11/2008, -0/+11So in other words you are telling me that I don't know when I am hot or cold. The utility company will tell me when I am cold, or when I am hot, or when I need lights. Hello, its up to each individual person to try to conserve energy. When will others realize that when you tell someone they can't do something it only makes that person want to do it more, and less like to try to follow the norm. But again, liberals and such, don't think I know how to think for myself, fend for myself, live by myself, parent my children, decided what appropriate for my children. They have a need to control every aspect of the human existence to how they see fit
- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -0/+11The government has just mandated that you will have to keep your house at 40 degrees in the winter and 90 degrees in the summer.
You let them do this, and that will become the reality. - inactive, on 01/11/2008, -0/+11There will be no need to replace their device because it'll never be in my home. No means no. My home is sovereign territory to me.
- mcrunch2, on 01/11/2008, -0/+10hey, you forgot only one piece of toilet paper - just wait till the hook up your thermostat to the bathroom!
- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -1/+11You've got to be ***** me? Don't these freaking morons have anything better to do. I wouldn't move to that *****-hole state in 10 lifetimes, and if they ever tried to pull that crap in SD, I'd go back to electronics school just to learn how to sabotage such crap without their knowledge.
- Slugo, on 01/11/2008, -1/+11Next thing is knocking that hoho or doughnut out of your hand because is not good for you
- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -1/+10Or just buy a replacement thermostat for $20 that doesn't have the government control feature. Heck, you could even leave the government control device hooked up to the power source and let the monitors think it's still controlling everything when it isn't actually connected to the appliances or A/C. There will be ways for people to get around this, but I'm sure the government will only respond with even more costly control to make it tamper proof.
- robertrutger, on 01/11/2008, -0/+9This is precisely what Al "CFR Puppet" Gore has in mind with his Global Warming communist front campaign. Gore should be tried for treason and summarily executed if found guilty for promoting what he knows to be a lie that would bankrupt our nation and destroy our republic.
- PoKansasFarmer, on 01/11/2008, -0/+9Hillary's village looks less and less pleasant. Lets ask the Indians what the government has for us next.
- DrReaper, on 01/11/2008, -0/+9Electricity today... Food tomorrow. Wait a second we all eat clone food... to late.
- these3remain, on 01/12/2008, -0/+8His point, nn, is the same as many others - basically the government has no right to make determinations about anybody's thermostat and the more government interferes with the lives of private citizens, the less desirable it is.
- mcrunch2, on 01/11/2008, -1/+9When, I ask WHEN is Californica going to fall into the ocean and save us more headaches?
- mcrunch2, on 01/11/2008, -0/+8NY already outlawed transfats - doughnuts may be next
- allahbigbutts, on 01/12/2008, -0/+8i agree that our homes should be ours and ours only! Property tax changes that whole mindset in the governments thinking. You never really own your land...land ownership is one of the first things to go in the New World Order.
- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -0/+8Yep... going solar is very expensive. How about - now this is a radical idea! - our illustrious Govt. drilling in 'off limits' places for oil, and requiring utilities to build 50% more nuke power plants within 10 years?
- these3remain, on 01/12/2008, -0/+7Some examples, please, as to how the evangelical religious right has attempted to assert it's own vision of morality and social order on America. It is inaccurate and fallacious to make a statement like that. It is more accurate to state that evangelicals want to retain the conservative morals that have historically been part of American culture. Are they challenging those who wish to shove their amoral values and resulting immorality down the throats of Bible believing Christians? Without a doubt because the negative results of moral relativism have already damaged our society and country and even impacted the church. They aren't trying hard to " control every aspect of human existence" but are defending their right to believe what they wish without fear of government reprisal and interference in their personal lives. The moral causes that they seek to RETAIN - NOT assert, are, in your own words for "the greater good" because people don't behave responsibly and all have a sin nature.
- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -1/+8We had something similar to this in Huntsville, AL in the 70's. The power Co. could shut off your AC for a few mins. during peak times. I don't remember it causing any problems. Govt. abuse of the system would be very bad. Next they'll want to control your TV, radio, internet, mail. etc. Just more Big Brotherism.
- these3remain, on 01/12/2008, -0/+7One World Religion and One World Government IS evil and has its origins with evil personified. It isn't a pejorative term in this instance, which is what I think you are objecting to. It's an accurate description of the agenda of the globalists. I dislike government interference at every turn and if the "population doesn't act in a responsible manner" is not a legitimate excuse for Big Brother, government control. There are many instances in which the population does not act in a responsible manner; that cannot be used as carte blanche for more and more government regulations. That rationale is the same of communist's governments - "the greater good". This would also be predicated upon those who are in government KNOWING what the "greater good" is. We already have plenty of legislation that purports to be for the "greater good", such as mandatory use of CFL's by 2012. And many of us do not think this is for the "greater good" at all, but it will certainly be profitable for those who have deemed it to be so. Freedom does require responsibility, including the discernment to know good from evil.
- digalphabeta, on 01/11/2008, -0/+7Nah... they want us to eat that kind of crap.. Keeps the sheople stupid.
- FullTimer, on 01/12/2008, -0/+7Holy C*%p! You mean Kalifornia.
Hitler’s vision of a perfect form of government:
Authoritarianism
–adjective
1. favoring complete obedience or subjection to authority as opposed to individual freedom: authoritarian principles; authoritarian attitudes.
2. of or pertaining to a governmental or political system, principle, or practice in which individual freedom is held as completely subordinate to the power or authority of the state, centered either in one person or a small group that is not constitutionally accountable to the people.
3. exercising complete or almost complete control over the will of another or of others: an authoritarian parent. - inactive, on 01/11/2008, -0/+7If I ever build a home that is off the grid with solar power and self-sufficiency, it will be because it's cheaper than the alternative, or because I'm trying to escape the tyranny of the New World Order.
- these3remain, on 01/12/2008, -0/+6"a personal choice affecting only the mother and child" - you have no way of "objectively" determining that. For one thing, one of those millions of babies that have been killed may well have had the solution to the environmental and consumption issues you seem to care so much about. Subjective vs. Objective.
- inactive, on 01/12/2008, -0/+6"the greater good" - I'm sorry but as soon as I saw you use that phrase, I knew I wouldn't be able to stomach the rest of your posts. You can't speak of freedom while still arguing in favor of taking away freedom for "the greater good", according to the personal beliefs of those in power.
- inactive, on 01/12/2008, -0/+6Definitely a good position for you to take! It might mean that the power company will refuse to provide you with service, but if you have to make the $15K investment in a solar power system or some other alternative, so be it and more power to you!
- inactive, on 01/12/2008, -0/+6It's not just his logic. It's His logic too, as in God's - be fruitful and multiply! As for abortion, what about the business of the baby? You obviously don't believe that babies have an inherent right to life, or that as long as they are in a sack of tissue inside the abdomen of a woman, that they are not human lives. It's sad how hard you try to prove that your logic is the best, but you can't even get the basics right.
- inactive, on 01/12/2008, -0/+6Won't do any good. A huge chunk of land is not the problem. It's the people running our government. Get them out, they are the problem.
- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -0/+6Water will be the real problem. Nearly is now.
- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -5/+10You don't like this? Vote for Ron Paul. You don't want to vote for Ron Paul? Stop complaining, you'll get what you deserve. May your chains rest lightly on your shoulders.
- these3remain, on 01/12/2008, -0/+5It is only your rather prideful opinion that this poster's comments don't "benefit the discourse in any way". On the contrary, many would disagree with you in the context of government interfering in the lives of private citizens. Obviously you don't understand what others do - that there is already too much government interference in the lives of individuals and many of us are not only tired of it but wary of it, too.
- daytoncub, on 01/12/2008, -0/+5Is it to late to kick California out of the union?
- FiringPin, on 01/12/2008, -0/+5Welcome to California! Please leave your brain at the border.
- allahbigbutts, on 01/12/2008, -0/+5not sure what leader it was, but one Soviet official said that communism will win with out firing a shot...
- these3remain, on 01/12/2008, -0/+5It's interesting to me that the only time you choose to respond to a comment that is posted is when it has to do with moral absolutes. It is obviously something that you really despise. Whether the woman lives 3000 miles away or in the same building as I do is immaterial. Murder is the taking of an innocent life. Abortion is murder, whether I am personally aware
of it or not. Just because I am unaware of it, does not make it any less a murder or any less immoral. By your logic, if a murder takes place 3000 miles away and you don't know about it, it isn't a murder. And whether you realize it or not, abortion has an effect upon our society - it continues to erode the value of human life and totally ignores the sanctity of human life. Also, there is nothing in "my logic" , if you actually examine the statements that are made that suggest that "breeding" at every opportunity would statistically improve our chances of finding solutions to our problems. But murdering the innocent will never lead to finding a solution to our problems because it is just one of the problems caused by a society that no longer has moral absolutes. - these3remain, on 01/12/2008, -0/+5You are either very young or incredibly naiive; since most of your posts sound like the regurgitation of a young, dewy-eyed college student who has bought into everything the abominable, secular humanist public education system has managed to inculcate into our youth. Nothing guarantees the "proper waste management" or disposal of CFL's for one thing. It's not just the manufacturers who profit; there are many political figures who stand to profit because they have purposed to make the myth of anthropogenic global warming one of their cause celebre to pursue their own personal agenda of greed and political agenda of globalism. You also speak ignorantly about being a "long way off' from revoking property rights. You either own no personal property or are unaware of the many cases of imminent domain that have either already been decided, and the property owners have been "disenfranchised" of their land or are presently pending. As far as being "disenfranchised from your government" regarding making decisions that are morally sound - "disenfranchised" is not the correct terminology - I am skeptical of our government making sound moral judgments based on the fact that it has failed to in many instances. Not only that , many elected representatives do not represent their constituency , which you apparently pay no regard to. Since they are human, and have a sin nature, they cannot be counted on to consistently act in a "good" manner or in the interest of society as a whole. It is incredibly naive of you to think that they are and will. I'm sorry that you are blinded by the god of this world and don't understand the far-reaching consequences of good and evil that, ultimately, impact our society as a whole. You have obviously bought into the secular lie of moral relativism which explains why you do not have any moral absolutes.
- inactive, on 01/12/2008, -0/+5"Am I the only one here who feels that government is an extension of ourselves, rather than a disconnected group who should stay out of our way?"
No, there are millions of other ignorant sheep just like you! Perhaps the government SHOULD be an extension of ourselves, but it isn't! It has become an extension of the globalism elitists who desire nothing but as much wealth and power as they can obtain. Our government IS a disconnected group who should stay out of our way because of the will that has taken over it!
Can you get that through your thick atheist skull?
You call what he said an exaggeration, I call it what he meant it to be, a prediction! Something to help the clueless people like you get a hint at what is in store for us if we allow this insanity to continue! The point he was trying to make is, give them an inch and they'll take a foot! You mention that it's just a 4-degree differential, well today it's ZERO! Tomorrow it MIGHT be 4-degree differential, and if we allow that to happen, a year later it might be a 10-degree differential along with more government control on other aspects of your life too!
Can you get that through your thick atheist skull? - inactive, on 01/12/2008, -0/+5California isn't the root of the problem. California is just an indicator of the direction this nation is heading - and fast. The Union of these Untied States must be forged ever stronger not made weaker. Together we will stand but divided we shall fall. California's problem are everyone's problems. Same goes for all the states.
- exgop, on 01/12/2008, -0/+5funny thing ,environmental liberalism has brought this much control over man. Sadly its the same bunch that damn "neocons" for the Patriot Act. I don't get it.
- ROaks, on 01/12/2008, -0/+4these3remain, Thank you. I could not have said it better myself. The so-called religious right has only tried to get back what as you stated ..."the conservative morals that have historically been a part of American culture". I get sick to my stomach when I hear Clinton or any of those socialist state "we are going to take back our country". Sounds like revisionist history to me. I just wish our government indoctrination centers would teach American history as I was taught 35 years ago. Besides Jesus and God's men of the Bible, all my heroes are the signer of the Declaration of Independence and all those that fought for our independence. Our youngsters today do not have that pride because they don't know America. And that is just the way it is.
- these3remain, on 01/13/2008, -0/+4Sad but true.
