- brundlefly76, on 10/12/2007, -2/+122What does this have to do with Hussein?
It was Basque seperatists! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+102The bombing was done by Basque separatists, not by Muslim terrorists. It had nothing to do with Saddam.
- treelovinhippie, on 10/12/2007, -20/+91To the OP, leave the sensationalist linkages to those who do it best *cough* fox news *cough*
- cpbrown, on 10/12/2007, -1/+56summary:
1) car bomb
2) madrid airport terminal 4
3) was preceded by a warning call so was evacuated
4) was by basque group ETA - is the end of a ceasefire
5) unrelated to saddam hussein's death - osbjmg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+51junkmail - Why do you not feel safe? This is a publicity stunt. They want you scared, you shouldn't be.
"Several people suffered minor injuries in the parking lot blast, which followed a warning to police, who were able to evacuate terminal four at Madrid's Barajas International Airport."
The bombers warned police, nobody was killed, they just wanted to make the news. - brotherfranciz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+43Agreed. The description is misleading, nothing to do with Saddam Hussein's hanging...
- moktoipas, on 10/12/2007, -6/+33"What's the difference with Muslims terrorists?"
They are not muslims :D - keyrat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28Being Basque, and being in Bilbao right now, I can tell you guys this is deeply saddening. No, no one was killed (one person is still missing, though), but the ceasefire, which we all knew wasn't going to hold, is now officially over. The peace talks are over, and now we have to go back to fighting where absolutely nothing gets solved. Sure, ETA always calls in bombs and sticks to primarily political targets, but the effect this has on the political climate is devastating. It tears the Basque region apart and it has Spanish people at odds with the Basques when in reality it's a couple of ***** morons who cause all the grief. We've been living with this ***** for 30 years now.
- dgh1973, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29The submitter obviously didn't read the article, it has nothing to do with Saddam Hussein. Inaccurate.
- mutmut, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17saddams hanging is irrelevant..it was done by the ETA, a Spanish terrorist group..
- NiteShok, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Please use more capital letters next time
- fintan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16The bomb was neither IN the airport (it was a car bomb), nor was it linked to Hussein (it was Eta).
What an atrocious choice of words the submitter used. - punchingjudy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15That's interesting. Friday [the 29th] was the anniversary of the 1975 LaGuardia Airport bombing.
- Itazura, on 10/12/2007, -11/+20Violence begets violence, and now with the great invention of the internet we can actually watch history repeat itself in near real time.
- GMorgan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12When they pulled out they weren't attacked by Islamic terrorists then and they haven't been now. It was a move of pure political opportunism by the opposition in taking advantage of dislike of the war.
Basque separatists are going to be a problem in Spain until they see a self determined Basqueland unfortunately. Balkanisation of Europe is more than possible over time*. Ireland splitting from the UK was an early one and a recent poll put 48% of Scots in favour of independence from the UK. Same issue in Wales. What we are heading towards in Europe is a vast range of smaller states over the coming centuries and I think it will be a good thing provided we can keep trade barriers down. Of course the big danger is some of the more socialist areas will shut up shop and end up impoverished.
*which is interesting given attempts to create a superstate which have all but ended in total failure. Not even the traditional pro-Europeans want it. - dscx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9at last some news without speculation, I can speculate all by my self thank you very much...

There are always a few imbeciles who screw it up for the rest of us.
In Puerto Rico we have about 3 terrorists who want to "liberate us" by force even though 97% of the people on the island are perfectly happy with our association with the US. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11What part of history are you referring to?
How do you fight violence? Answer: More, swift, decisive, and focused violence.
If your nice quote "Violence begets violence' was true then World War II would still be going strong. All wars are won when the winning side completely destroys or is on the verge of completely destroying their enemy. I can't name one violent conflict that was resolved with peace talks. Welcome to Human Nature 101. - Kylem87, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Dugg, but marked as inaccurate. This will just lead people to believe the bombing has some kind of relevancy to the hanging of Saddam, which it isn't.
- TWhid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Marked as inaccurate for the Saddam connection. What does the ETA have to do with Iraq?
- Zadkiel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7So every piece of negative news has to some way relate back to Saddam's death?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Please, the world is safer from terror now than it has in the pass 3 decades. No I don't think Bush or Clinton or Bush had/has anything do do with it. Ask anyone that lived through the 70' and 80's when there was hijackings, kidnapping, mortar attacks, and mass murders ran on nearly every nightly news cast and that's just in the U.K. We have to remember many of us are still in shock after 9/11 and hyper sensitive to any form of terror with access to world news/information 24 hours a day.
P.S. I hate the word Terror/Terrorist because we use it to describe any frighting event now. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10again with the Muslims. everything that has to do with the bombing, everyone shouts muslims.
idiots. don't judge Islam by bad individuals. - michael1406, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5There is a negative correlation between the seriousness of the topic and the distance down the page I go.
Start of the page - Catastrophic event has occured
Bottom of the page - Hardly worth mentioning - morphie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Suggestive description. Why oh why do story-starters always have to use suggestive descriptions? It has nothing to do with saddams hanging.
- radio4fan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6You can *always* tell?
Tim McVeigh, unabomber, Eric Robert Rudolph, IRA pub bombings, Eniskillen, etc. suggest otherwise. - osbjmg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Early warning is a powerful thing.
- rblinne, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9I find it interesting that the ETA is blamed so quickly. Remember, the current government came into power in part because the previous one was too quick to blame the ETA for the previous Madrid bombing. Of course, there is one key difference, ETA appears to be taking credit.
The digg summary of this story also shows an all too common effect. Blame terrorism on Western governments and leaders which it should be blamed on -- uh, I don't know -- terrorists? - ICSU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Non-Muslim terrorists are not interesting and in agenda. Didn't you know that?
- nicstevens42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Minutes after Saddam was hanged? Hmm... that's more minutes than I get on my cell plan. The OP is an idiot and the post was buried as inaccurate.

"They declared that Basque nationality is defined by the Basque language, Euskara; this was in contrast to the PNV's definition of Basque nationality in terms of ethnicity. In contrast with the explicit Catholicism of the PNV, ETA defined itself as "aconfessional"—meaning ETA does not recognize a special state religion." - wiki - Davidofff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3z0mg a bomb someone hit caps lock !
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7omg, you know what was crazy? On 11/9/2006, the Yankee's guy flew his plane into a building in NYC!!
That's like 9/11, just arranged differently! :O - witooo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dude am Spanish too. Your are right in part but how can you say that the right wing never wanted permanent peace. They also wanted peace though they believed from the start that the path the government took was not the "right" one. Maybe the fact that they didn't agree with how things where being done affected the stability of the treaty but that doesn't mean they wanted it to end. No way man. I know polatricks suck but I have no doubt every mentally healthy right wing member wishes this absurd terrorism to end.
- dgblackout, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3just when we all thought that things couldn't get worse.... okay, so it's not done because of the saddam hanging, so at least it's not connected i guess. despite that, it's still not a good thing.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2and ETA have what to do with saddam hussain exactly?
learn to write decent descriptions that arent sensationalist
leave that ***** to fox news - Arkonnan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Where is the "Bury: Sensationalist Tripe" option?
- CornStarch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yeah stupid title, the Basque separatist have nothing to do with Al Queda
- mandel15, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Man, it was in a car park, and 4 floors of it have fallen, I recon it has been a big one, The only reason why there were not more dead people is due to be in weird place. (I don't know how long you stay in a car park, but I leave as soon as I have park the car...)
- bouche, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Jon Stewart is going to love this coverage. Tying a bomb to Saddam's hanging by one little sentence is ridiculous, yet predictable. I wish that submitters of ***** stories like this would point out the lame connections rather than USE them as a reason to get dugg.
"Saturday's explosion, which came shortly after the execution of Saddam Hussein in Iraq, raised fears of a retaliatory strike in a country that has suffered attacks in response to its support for international military operations." - jsdratm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Buried as inaccurate due to sensationalist description

I heard the story on a BBC radio news bulletin this morning. - arizonagroove, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Way to skew a story thebenfather.
"BOMB EXPLODES IN MADRID AIRPORT"
A bomb exploded in the car park of one the terminals at Madrid Airport.
"just minutes after Saddam Hussein's hanging"
According to the BBC Saddam Hussein was hung just before 0300 GMT. I see no references to the time of the bombing in the linked CNN story. The CNN story says it was posted "1411 GMT (2211 HKT), December 30, 2006" but this is obviously not correct since it is 1432 GMT as I type this and this digg story says it was submitted over 5 hours ago, about 4 hours before the CNN story it links to was says it was posted.
Off the top of my head I think Madrid is a hour behind GMT so that would have made it around 0200 GMT when the bomb went off if it really was 'just minutes after' Saddam was hung. That is an illogical time to bomb an airport car park because it is going to be relatively quiet. http://www.thestar.com/News/article/166506 says the bomb exploded around 0800 GMT, about 5 hours after Saddam was hung.
Then of course there's the fact that the bomb was planted by ETA and is hence clearly unrelated to Saddam Hussain's hanging. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1my comment on fox was aimed at the poster not cnn as it was him who mentioned saddam hussain not cnn :-)
congratulations on reading the digg page and not the actual article :-) - IdanE, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This is so LAME. A bomb goes off NEAR the airport, causing minor injuries to about 26 people, and it gets to the front page, and blames Iraqis for it, when it was the Basque separatist movement. Meanwhile in Iraq, There are over 60 dead from retaliations after Saddam's hanging, and it goes unmentioned.
Some days I just think this entire world is crazy. a small bomb goes off in Spain, and it gets dugg up to the front page, even if it is out of context, and even contradictory to the real story! DIGG is becoming a sensationalist tabloid!
This kind of poster should be banned if you ask me - having a 12 year old retard trying to promote Islamic terror on a populace that's already paranoid is pretty dumb. Report facts, or theories that have a basis. NOT unsubstantiated allegations that have no basis, and are in stark contrast to the truth.
Buried. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I should have said the Communist Revolution was well on it's way before WWI. With or with out WWI Russia would have gone through a revolution.
And why did you stop at WWI? Was there no war before then? If you are going to extrapolate that every war is created by a previous war then you need to start with the two cave man war of 200,000 B.C which lead to the great conflict of 199,99B.C...... - Corrosionx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I'm talking about WWI.
America had no business in it. And because it got involved, it CAUSED WWII, the Holocaust, the Cold War, everything else.
There had been no war since the end of the Napolitan wars, because governments were broke. But when they got their Central Banks printing presses and free money and practically unlimited powers of taxation, it was time for the biggest Century of War ever.
No governments have ever protected anyone from anything. As "legal institutionalized monopolies on the initiation of force", they are the biggest murderers and THE ultimate cause of everything that is wrong with our world. - Corrosionx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1None. Same thing.
While you're at it, what's the difference between them and politicians, except they don't have to fight themselves? - grazny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1FOX News should hire you... Stop this fear mongering...
