- cyrusuncc, on 12/16/2008, -27/+790I was expecting to see keyboards and mice being thrown around, then i realized it was Greek riots.
- inactive, on 12/15/2008, -18/+630There is horror in those pictures, they look amazing though.
- Flashtone, on 12/16/2008, -37/+633Dugg for hott protester chick #7
- pintomp3, on 12/16/2008, -74/+656greece: one kid gets shot by police = protests and riots
america: dozens of unarmed people shot by police every year, stolen elections, thousands of americans dead in an illegal war, spying and wiretapping = crickets chirping. - AltEfFour, on 12/16/2008, -10/+453I was going to make a smart ass comment about me thinking the title was "Geek Riot" but after seeing the pictures I'm all :o
- willsani, on 12/15/2008, -15/+417The pictures are powerful in a sense that they display the sheer frustration of the people.
- sladek, on 12/16/2008, -5/+367I'm glad those were mannequins

Holy Crap! It's laser warfare - painting, on 12/16/2008, -20/+3132009 summer blockbuster: My Big Fat Greek Riot
- kd420, on 12/16/2008, -11/+246The Boston Globe, amazing as usual.
Though I don't condone violence, I support the youth who are trying to change the direction of their country. Maybe when the youth of other western countries realize how much baggage has been dumped on them, they will do the same. Violence is not always the right answer, but it is better than sitting back and watching your country be taken over by crooks and corrupt politicians. The entire world is heading into recession, and it is the younger generations who will pay for it. - BotaXero, on 12/16/2008, -30/+256Because burning a jeep and a policeman is a perfect way to gain sympathy?
- ByrcheWroot, on 12/16/2008, -12/+229People should not be afraid of their government. Government should be afraid of it's people.
Some powerful pictures in there. - speel, on 12/16/2008, -7/+197Leonidas would be pleased.
- v1c1ous, on 12/16/2008, -9/+198No offense, but some of those pics are AWESOME! Laser riots? check! Mannequins burning making it look like a scene straight out of terminator? check! sad lone policeman in a hail of smoke? check!
Someone get Hollywood on the phone! - inactive, on 12/16/2008, -20/+209So you protest someones death by destroying the livelihoods of people who had nothing to do with it? Protesters can be real douches at times.
- wkpower, on 12/16/2008, -2/+154http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2008/12/2008_gree ...
Just do it. This riot sponsored by Nike. - IphtashuFitz, on 12/16/2008, -1/+153Not to detract from the seriousness of the whole thing, but that picture of the mannequins in flames (#25) is pretty awesome. Almost looks like something you'd expect to see in a sci-fi movie.
- kushin, on 12/16/2008, -2/+127For #17 Ninja Protester
http://cache.boston.com/universal/site_graphics/bl ... - IphtashuFitz, on 12/16/2008, -15/+139I think hot protester chick #34 is hotter.
- Dimyeyes, on 12/16/2008, -4/+117Is it just me, or is everyone in the riot extremely good looking?
- agentzero141970, on 12/16/2008, -5/+117dugg for:
#17 with flash
#18 for protester that thinks he has two handguns
#24 for lazer of doom
#25 for awesomeness
#32 who thinks he is playing tag
#36 for guy who thinks he is the joker - smokeymcdank, on 12/16/2008, -4/+114Yea, that is some amazing photography. I understand protest in the form of marches and what not. I never understood trashing your own city, however. I guess vandalizing govmt property is one thing, but why burn that poor girl's car, for instance. She didn't do anything.
- TheDHC, on 12/16/2008, -12/+120These riots bring honor to Alexander Grigoropoulos?
- fonebone, on 12/16/2008, -1/+100I thought I was the only one reading "Geek riots" :)
- WarnerK, on 12/16/2008, -5/+91They look especially amazing while all on ONE PAGE! I was beginning to lose hope.
- Stevethegreat, on 12/16/2008, -1/+87As a Greek, there's a reason why I wouldn't like the "Greek Riots" to be promoted to Digg's frontpage. And that's because I know that the comments would be atrocious. There would be people trying to generalize the phenomenon and try to make a point against modern societies/capitalism/Europe/what have you, while in fact that's a EXCLUSIVELY Greek phenomenon and has to do with the identity crisis that our country has for 200 years and was especially intensified the last 50 years.
The bad thing with Greece is that it gives out a shiny image to those abroad while it is rotten from inside and only those inside know about it, this disparity between Greece's public image and real situation is partly Greeks' fault, but not entirely. I could go on trying to explain why these things happen like I did in previous posts of mine, but I'll save myself the pains since nobody is going to read or even care for my little country's troubles and they'll continue believing what their world view tells them to believe.
Anyhow I only have to tell that those protesting and those rioting are different people, the protesters were not rioters they were always peaceful and the rioters are not protesters and in fact nobody's supporting them, it's just that nobody is there to stop them either. - DirtyVicar, on 12/16/2008, -0/+80Boston.com clearly demonstrates how to use visual imagery to bring the news to the masses. Go to nearly all other online newspapers and they're still stuck in the 1990s with their postage stamp 225 x 150 pixel news photos. That ***** doesn't cut it anymore.

- LRED, on 12/16/2008, -4/+72pintomp3,
when corruption has been happening for so long, people tend to brush it aside because it's "old news" or just get masked with manipulated excuses to believe it was all necessary..... Kind of like the Palestinian cause or Darfur. Who cares, right? - uknowwhoibe, on 12/16/2008, -0/+67Same thing here. I don't know why I read it as "Geek Riot".
Amazing photography. - inactive, on 12/16/2008, -18/+82That is the passion of politics that has withered away in the UK and the USA; that's people power in action.

- darzeecompany, on 12/16/2008, -1/+64The 6th of December, the mannequins, lasers, and cops

I'm always bad at these games :( - inactive, on 12/16/2008, -1/+59Not to detract from the riots, but those photos are all absolutely fantastic.
- Halsfield, on 12/16/2008, -22/+79if the kid threw a firebomb at a police officer he deserved to be shot unless what happened to the policeman on fire happen to him but there is no video evidence of the shooting im assuming so its the word of a cop vs the word of 1 or a couple rioters which makes it a hard crime to solve.
i think if they did this in America they wouldve open fired at the first sign of fire bombs/molotovs. Of course i have seen police provoke protesters by pushing them off of their designated protesting area (which is stupid in itself) or by having a plains clothes cop throw a rock or something from the crowd at the uniformed cops, etc. - Halsfield, on 12/16/2008, -7/+64i dont support lighting police on fire, burning cars that dont belong to you, or vandalizing local businesses/banks/statues simply because you feel like it.
i do support kids getting active in government and lawmaking to change their surroundings. if things are really as bad as they say the police would have just open fired with live ammo as soon as a firebomb was thrown. i know in America they probably would have open fired at the first sign of real deadly force. i dont really blame them either, if you're using deadly force and they are expected to hold themselves back while you attempt to kill them? if you want to attack a government attack its leaders, not its police. an evil government will always be able to find more enforcers, if you remove the heads of state you remove the orders to police. - mikbunn, on 12/16/2008, -3/+60I'd take her flower.
- Daxx22, on 12/16/2008, -4/+58That's just the animal mob-mentality at work =\
- ABadPerson, on 12/16/2008, -0/+50That is just a decoy, the real Ninja Protester is directly behind the photographer.
- raydeen, on 12/16/2008, -3/+50The 60's called and they want their protest back.
- ProjectGSX, on 12/16/2008, -0/+46Comfort breeds apathy.
- themastersb, on 12/16/2008, -23/+67People in the U.S. need to learn to riot.
- cnot3, on 12/16/2008, -3/+45They should have formed a phalanx. THIS IS WHERE WE FIGHT! THIS IS WHERE THEY DIE!
- inactive, on 12/16/2008, -23/+63Not really it's some anarchists and ***** "students" that want to break ***** and steal stuff.
- michaelrsa, on 12/16/2008, -8/+48No, it's because you have it good in the states, I came here from South Africa and it isn't apathy, its just because things aren't in a bad situation. The one thing that I have never been able to understand about America is that so many believe that the government is corrupt, what makes you think that? You live in security, you have the right to say what you want without reprisal from the government. The most censorship and restriction I have seen in this country is preventing minors from seeing R movies and unable to purchase M games, and still you have the gall to whine about that?
In South Africa, you had to have brick walls topped with razor wire surround your house, have a damn good security system and pretty much barricade yourself in overnight. Hell, my own cousin was robbed by people he thought were his friends and then they ***** with him by telling him how they were going to kill him. Frankly you have it so ***** lucky and I have yet to see a single person thankful for it, everyone just wants more, more, more.
Franklin said "Those who sacrifice liberty for freedom deserve neither", I would like to see what he would say if he had been in my position. - OmarJasso, on 12/16/2008, -1/+41Ditto.
- soupdawg30, on 12/16/2008, -16/+56I believe most of these people riot because they are violent criminals. If the police shot someone then why are they breaking into other buildings and trashing and burning them also? These riots have little to do with the death of the boy. They were just waiting for a reason to try to spread anarchy.
- DanOnTheMoon, on 12/16/2008, -16/+56It'll happen here. Be patient.
