UPDATE: New Crazy Floating Man-Made Island Completed [PICS]

ecoble.com — The original Spiral Island was the talk of the world: a man-made floating island constructed from 250,000 plastic bottles that could drift and relocate as needed ... until it was destroyed by disaster. Now the new amazing Spiral Island is finally finished and slated to open to the public within the next few months in Laguna Makax near Isla Mujeres.

  • ConceptualTrap, on 05/13/2008, -0/+4The other island had lasted 6 years. That's a long time for him to improve upon the design. What you have to realize is that the island isn't "finished". It's just usuable now. He already plans on adding sections as time goes by so count on it getting bigger and more impressive. As for the Mangroves being smaller, he's allowing the trees to grow that way their roots will intertwine with the nets and bottles so as to create a firmer base which they island can float upon.
