- RuffRidr, on 02/19/2008, -10/+35A woman. Oh sorry, I thought that said Geeks.
- solidus636, on 02/19/2008, -1/+24500 years? I think that way NOW.
- INDOAZZ, on 02/19/2008, -8/+272.Harpies = HERPES no wonder they were scared.
- ChefEspeff, on 02/19/2008, -0/+19Wow, I've seen some ***** ass top " " lists in my life, but this one takes the cake. Seriously, write more than a few sentences for each creature, add some humor, and maybe make a list that actually makes sense in some way.
- inactive, on 02/19/2008, -6/+19I wonder if people will look at us in 500 years and think we are as silly as the greeks for being scared of hell and the devil?
- ZeroOrDie, on 02/19/2008, -2/+14Might I kindly ask, where the ***** is Trogdor?!?!
- bonkeykong, on 02/19/2008, -3/+14+1 for correctly guessing the list
- juliustan, on 02/19/2008, -0/+9top 5 things that scare Americans:
1. Terrorists
2. Muslims
3. Black People
4. Homosexuals
5. RIAA - Dested, on 02/19/2008, -6/+15Stop trying to confuse what really happened with you and your facts.
- Alex2, on 02/19/2008, -1/+9I saw a show that theorized that the Ancient Greeks unearthed dinosaur bones, and that backed up their theories about the existence of monsters.
- dopplerdog, on 02/19/2008, -1/+9"Cyclopes: essentially there were three of them, Brontes (thunderer), Steropes (Lightener), and Arges (Bright)".
Nonsense. They missed the most famous one, Polyphemos, from the Odyssey (the one Odysseus blinded). He also lived with many other Cyclopes on the island of Sicily. - afx1, on 02/19/2008, -0/+7Cratures scare me
- morninglorii, on 02/19/2008, -1/+8I actually thought it said Geeks until I read your comment :(
- SmackMyMac, on 02/19/2008, -0/+7Rancore.
*shutter* - lamprey187, on 02/19/2008, -0/+7The giant little girl scared the crap out of me and the greeks. By the way I read the title as top 5 creatures that scared geeks.
- LumberingOaf, on 02/19/2008, -1/+7 What the hell is the point of this?
"Hey do you know anything about Greek mythology? I do! Here is a huge list of five whole creatures that the Greeks were afraid of! In order! No really, I took a poll. And don't be expecting me to know how to spell creatures, either."
Never mind the fact that they've been in every game or movie, or story about Greece since time immemorial. - e36wheelman, on 02/19/2008, -4/+9No, that would be like Napoleon fearing communist China.
Since when did Sherri Shepherd from the View start using Digg? - carpespasm, on 02/19/2008, -1/+5indeed. In this case, the RIAA could be seen as the Greeks and the group they fear is the Hydra of their customers.
- kronso23, on 02/19/2008, -2/+6I thought the title said, "Top Five Creatures That Scared Geeks", noticed Cthulhu wasn't on the list, and realized... "Oohh.. Greeks."
- ClarkNoHeart, on 02/19/2008, -1/+5Yoshi is a dinosaur. Remove him and the Shrek dragon, add Trogdor and Draco (from DragonHeart, voiced by Sir Sean Connery).
- jimonastick, on 02/19/2008, -1/+5Ron Paul
- eleraama, on 02/19/2008, -1/+5Or Smaug.
- moshinator, on 02/19/2008, -2/+6I don't blame this guy. I read Geeks too...
- Nhova, on 02/19/2008, -0/+4Actually all those STILL scare geeks on a daily basis in AD&D or WoW
- e36wheelman, on 02/19/2008, -5/+9Can we have a community petition to ban this troll? This guy is a complete idiot and I'm tired of his useless comments taking up half my 1050px tall browser window.
The made up BS he spews gives a bad name to atheists and all Diggers. - RSJ115, on 02/19/2008, -0/+4This is an extremely horrible article, and hardly even gives the actual background of the creatures in greek mythology, just the gross generalizations that get thrown around.
Further, what's the point? Does anything in a listed format with horrible grammar get an insta-digg nowadays? I see no possible reason for this to have made front page. - stringerbell, on 02/19/2008, -1/+4I thought it was going to be:
1. Women
2. Girls
3. BSOD/Microsoft
4. Mom
5. DRM - humboldt79, on 02/19/2008, -2/+5Have a group to take on these monsters - need healer! Then ready to go.
- inactive, on 02/19/2008, -2/+5Hydra, the big serpent with nine heads.
- haydesigner, on 02/19/2008, -0/+3I think in twenty years people will sit there and wonder why the hell we, collectively, were so scared of Al-Qaeda and every other imaginary/real/potential terrorist.
- HairyFotr, on 02/19/2008, -1/+4Him being wrong does not necessarily make you right.
- crazzy88ss, on 02/19/2008, -1/+4Shows more intelligence than the people who came up with Noah's Ark.
- leftler, on 02/19/2008, -0/+3Cyclopia is an actual disease, it is when your brain does not split in to hemispheres, you get born with one eye (if you survive)
here is a paper on it http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcg ... - dopplerdog, on 02/19/2008, -3/+6I'm as much a skeptic of Christianity as the next guy, but some of those "facts" are nothing of the sort. Mithras was famous not for being crucified, but for slaying a bull. The "blood" his followers venerated was not his own, but the bull's. And there was so much secrecy surrounding the cult of Mithras that the details are pure speculation - we're only left with carvings that are wide open to interpretation. (e.g. his "12 disciples" come from depictions of him surrounded by the Zodiac).
There is plenty to discredit Christianity with, it's not necessary to concoct "evidence". - bagboyrebel, on 02/19/2008, -0/+3the greeks had cthulhu?
- ConFliX, on 02/19/2008, -0/+2murlocs?
- XxATAROTHxX, on 02/19/2008, -1/+3A mutated penis w/an eye and arms?
- Aindrea, on 02/19/2008, -0/+2Spellcheck, please.
- ultraJesus, on 02/19/2008, -0/+2Cratures?
- Ahnteis, on 02/20/2008, -0/+2I didn't claim correctness one way or the other. I just pointed out an easy way around his obvious troll.
- Pinkertinkle, on 02/19/2008, -0/+2A minotaur with the head of a man and the body of a bull would look pretty stupid.
- mapkinase, on 02/19/2008, -0/+2Absolutely. I was actually looking for that dinosaur that scares xkcd guy as number 1.
- meghalc, on 02/19/2008, -0/+2Any ancient religion will have creatures that frighten people. Christianity, Islam, and judaism does not compare to the Greek's history or India's history, both ancient religions over 2000 years old..
