- dsully215, on 02/14/2008, -4/+166They're all awesome. But Burj Dubai is just insane.
- RSS14, on 02/14/2008, -7/+132Oh man, how embarrassing will it be to live in Chicago in 2010 with the world's largest dildo as the centerpiece of your city.
- Majhem, on 02/14/2008, -0/+80"Burj dubai is now the tallest building in the world, even without completing."
- getontop, on 02/14/2008, -1/+76Is it the Future yet?
- 93TILL503, on 02/14/2008, -2/+64You couldn't pay me enough to work on the Burj Dubai.
- sgtcaboose, on 02/14/2008, -0/+37Dubai and the UAE as a whole is probably had the most bizzare buildings, its because architects go around city to city with crazy ideas (Burj Dubai, Palm Island, World Islands) and places like NY and London just say "Thats ridiculous". Then they go to Dubai and hey presto, big awesome building.
- lawngnomes4pres, on 02/14/2008, -3/+40These structures are simply amazing.
I love seeing this kind of stuff. - zero, on 02/14/2008, -0/+34where do I sign?
- projjalc, on 02/14/2008, -1/+35That's why the Chinese thought ahead and put a huge hole in the middle.
- OSXpert, on 02/14/2008, -0/+31sorry, 2012 is reserved by london. Chicago is shooting for 2016
- cygnus2112, on 02/14/2008, -0/+28Who needs cranes? We can build these cities on Rock and Roll!
- ggacid, on 02/14/2008, -2/+28Still amazes me how construction people can just be dangling by cables that high up in the air. I'm kinda scared to go near the edge of a building when I'm INSIDE the damn thing with a window blocking me from falling! These guys truely are crazy ass mofo's
- Twee, on 02/14/2008, -2/+27Chicago's "thing" looks more like a giant dong to me.
- 93TILL503, on 02/14/2008, -4/+29Sim City realized! Cool stuff.
- skippyrandom, on 02/14/2008, -2/+27I HAVE to go to Dubai before I die.
- chingy1788, on 02/14/2008, -1/+241 million Euros a day, with a promise of 5 extremely hot women after you finish?
- rephil513, on 02/14/2008, -2/+22Burj = Coruscant
- IShouldBeWorkin, on 02/14/2008, -0/+19As a Chicagoan I cant wait to see the aqua get built. The spire is hogging all the press attention but the aqua should be breath taking in person
- insllvn, on 02/14/2008, -14/+31#1, the aqua, and #4, regatta hotel, are my favorites. The super tall and the geometrically perplexing don't hold much fascination for me. At some point doing it "because we can" becomes asinine. The buildings don't inspire awe, just curiosity. The Regatta hotel instills in me a sense of wonder not present in any of the others. I am speaking specifically about the "lighthouse." To me, that curved, unblemished surface is what buildings are supposed to look like in the future.
- captoftheworld, on 02/14/2008, -3/+20Chicago's "thing" looks like a giant corkscrew, the Residence Antilia looks like it was designed by a Lego enthusiast gone mad,
and the Penang Global City Centre looks like a fire damaged speculum.
- garfonzo, on 02/14/2008, -0/+17It's like two parallel universes collided and stuck.
- budgeysmuggler, on 02/14/2008, -0/+16These are fine examples of shrines to mans ego
dugg for impressive yet needless. - xMotu, on 02/14/2008, -0/+15If you count to five then yes it is the future.
- sgtcaboose, on 02/14/2008, -1/+16Sure is, i was there 2 weeks ago...it already looks amazing on a sunset.
- FadieZ, on 02/14/2008, -0/+13Welcome to the 21st century bitch.
- animeguru, on 02/14/2008, -0/+12I feel sorry for your clients... it would appear that you're completely out of the loop in your own field and have no clue what the ***** you're talking about. You must be the worst Realtor in Chicago.
- jhawkins, on 02/14/2008, -1/+13Ironically you'd only be earning US $4 a day... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burj_Dubai#Labour_con ...
- thedragon4453, on 02/14/2008, -0/+12Another step towards coruscant. I'll take my lightsaber now, plz, kthxbai.
- nepalikakro, on 02/14/2008, -1/+12A comma would have helped.
- LBobRife, on 02/14/2008, -1/+12Well, the last one is getting close to finished. I believe it's already the tallest skyscraper in the world and they still have a year to go finishing it up.
- windycityhxc, on 02/14/2008, -1/+12Between the Trump Tower, Aqua, and the Chicago Spire, it's going to be weird seeing such a relatively sudden, drastic change to the Chicago skyline after seeing it remain virtually the same as it is all my life.
- lsatkins, on 02/14/2008, -0/+10Only thing I can think of is the camera isn't perfectly level.
- Azerael, on 02/14/2008, -1/+11You mean Dubai, right? "Burj" means tower.
- strictnein, on 02/14/2008, -1/+11Just make sure to clean your shoes before you go.
- Wandel, on 02/14/2008, -0/+9We know. Azerael was pointing out that Dubai = Coruscant, because Burj = Tower.
- TacticalPenguin, on 02/14/2008, -2/+11*euro
- ggacid, on 02/14/2008, -1/+9Is it just me, or does it already look like it's leaning to the left?
- inactive, on 02/14/2008, -1/+9i really hope these get built
- picka, on 02/14/2008, -0/+8Groundbreaking on the spire happened in July. It's already under construction, to be completed in 2011, not 2010.
- pendy, on 02/14/2008, -2/+9They can say the spire is modeled after a drill poking through the earth, but i agree with twee, it looks like a giant penis
- feenxfire, on 02/14/2008, -5/+12It's a shame New York went with such a banal design for the Freedom Tower. All these beautiful buildings are emblematic of America's shrinking status on the world stage. That building from Chicago does give me hope, though; can't wait to see our president visit his hometown for the grand opening.
- cygnus2112, on 02/14/2008, -1/+8If by dong, you mean a giant white dildo extending from the center of Chicago, I agree!
- retrolab, on 02/14/2008, -0/+7Visited Chicago a few months ago and loved your city. It's like a super-Toronto. Very much like Toronto but bigger & better imo, from the architecture of the buildings down to the jazz/blues nightlife.
- NeverOffside, on 02/14/2008, -0/+7yeah, I was in Dubai in summer 2007 and it dominated the skyline there, when just a skeleton. The Burj Al Arab is still the most beautiful though.
- kiiwii, on 02/14/2008, -0/+7Kind of funny how skyscrapers were first built out of necessity because there wasn't enough space, so they had to build up...
90 years ago do you think anyone would believe the tallest skyscraper would be built in a city in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by thousands of square miles of open space? - animeguru, on 02/14/2008, -1/+7Arcologies FTW!
- HunkieChan, on 02/14/2008, -0/+6i hope i live to see all this
- nedev, on 02/14/2008, -0/+6Not everything is geopolitics. Try just appreciating a bit of amazing architecture.
- haterrade, on 02/14/2008, -1/+7i was going to say it looks ribbed for her pleasure
- DickyT83, on 02/14/2008, -2/+8If you hop in my Delorean while I gun it to 88, then yes.
