- Miamisun, on 08/17/2008, -3/+74The creators of digg should create a digg classics website where all of the old stuff that gets reposted more than 2 or 3 times in a years gets sent for immortality. Obviously there is a reason this thread pops up once every couple of months. Cause it is a classic.
- inactive, on 08/17/2008, -0/+43Those aren't intersections.
- vickers500, on 08/17/2008, -17/+55These comments suck.

- credential101, on 08/17/2008, -8/+36They look like a pain to drive, but I bet that they are a lot easier than what they look.

- thegrantman, on 08/17/2008, -1/+19These aren't intersections,they're flyovers....and they're easy.
- wezults, on 08/16/2008, -5/+22Spaghetti Bowl; Las Vegas, NV. I believe the name says it all...
- LoudMusic, on 08/17/2008, -0/+16Eh, most of those aren't that bad, they're just big. If you back out a little you'll start to see that the two directions of lanes for each point of the X (or Y) just separate, bridge the other roads, and come back together on another point of the X. How else would you have them do it?
That crap in Russia, though? That's messed up. Usually I would suggest a round-about to solve all the traffic problems, but one of the British car shows, Top Gear or Fifth Gear, had a class of school kids try to redesign an atrocious British intersection and even though they appeared to improve it, their solution was "more round-abouts!"
The US interstate highways would be so much better if there weren't any cars on them ... ;) - alpharaptor, on 08/17/2008, -1/+15Those are interchanges.
- NathanCH, on 08/17/2008, -1/+14Yes, but I won't critique your comment because I'm off duty.
- dawnraid101, on 08/17/2008, -4/+11Yours included.
nah it was good. - airwalke, on 08/17/2008, -0/+7I believe in these intersections, the GPS would be going haywire.
"Keep right for I-45...take the nex...right...left...rightleft... keep going stra--leftrightleftleft" - gklitt, on 08/17/2008, -0/+6Oh, and what about those Eastern drivers?
- vsujohn2, on 08/17/2008, -0/+6The first one is rarely ever called the "Tom Moreland Interchange". Its affectionately known to the natives as just Spaghetti Junction
- zephyr42, on 08/17/2008, -0/+6**wives don't count as GPS.
- zenithmbr, on 08/17/2008, -1/+7yes, it is. and it's not funny.
- blackcap, on 08/17/2008, -0/+6A night shot of Auckland's Spaghetti Junction. Not that insane compared to others around the world, but it looks good at night!
http://www.flickr.com/photos/chris_gin/2197585153/ ... - biznatch11, on 08/17/2008, -0/+5They're space stations.
- zenithmbr, on 08/17/2008, -1/+6so does yours, because its one of the most played out comments to appear on digg. good job.
- Vodd9, on 08/17/2008, -0/+5What they also don't show is that there are signs everywhere, so if you pay any attention at all, you can't go in the wrong way.
- firemaple, on 08/17/2008, -0/+5I was a truck driver in Atlanta. Try driving a semi through that mess for ten hours a day. No wonder I went back to college.
- cave, on 08/17/2008, -0/+5I actually really liked the idea of the "magic roundabout" and didn't think it was complicated at all. The advantage of it is that you can circle it in both directions, clockwise in the outer lane and counter clockwise in the inner lane, so you can make a shorter path if you wanna get off at the lane just to your right.
- Daiken, on 08/17/2008, -0/+5It just looks scary cause you're seeing a bird's eyes view. If you're actually driving then it would be okay. Scary are intersections in India, because it's just a constantly flow of traffic in every direction.
- sparkleanimesh, on 08/17/2008, -7/+12Does GPS help here?
- inactive, on 08/17/2008, -0/+5No it doesn't.
- warsongs7, on 08/17/2008, -0/+5If you know where you are going then they are perfect but if you are new to the city then one little mistake will fling you far away.
- macattack5, on 08/17/2008, -0/+5nothing flying cars cant fix
- ORBIT, on 08/17/2008, -0/+4Very nice of a blog post to reference the Wikipedia article it skimmed it's entire content from.
- Alphax45, on 08/17/2008, -0/+4They forgot "Confusion Corner" in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada:
http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~wyatt/alltime/pics/wi ... - mr_ziy, on 01/15/2009, -1/+4They sure look real nice tho
- Piontek, on 08/17/2008, -0/+3I honestly don't get the concept of the "Magic Mushroom". Why the hell not just make it 1 big roundabout?
- iamanalog, on 08/17/2008, -2/+5There is quite a fun one in Worcester, MA called Kelley Square....
It's common to just close your eyes and hit the gas and hope you make it out...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cC6PlBEepaE - therealknewman, on 08/17/2008, -2/+5I'd rather drive in a circle to make the left than wait at a light and risk a collision at an intersection in such a high volume area (referring to the Russian one of pg 1)
- Tanze, on 08/17/2008, -0/+3being an avid sim city player, these pictures hurt my brain
- Vodd9, on 08/17/2008, -1/+4First xkcd comic I actually enjoyed.
- deags, on 08/17/2008, -0/+3These beat the ***** out of Traffic Lights.
- Virgule, on 08/17/2008, -0/+3This?
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=33.46204,-112.0 ... - Entroper, on 08/17/2008, -0/+3There's absolutely nothing insane about the first image. It's called a stack interchange, and it's rather common since it's the highest-capacity way to create a junction between two highways. It's actually easier to drive than a cloverleaf, since there is only one merge point, and merging traffic comes in closer to highway speed.
One of my favorites is where I used to live in Albany, right across from the Empire State Plaza: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=a ... - inactive, on 08/17/2008, -0/+2Try driving in Haiti. I don't know what's more surprising, the fact that there are no laws, or the fact that so many Haitians actually have cars.
- badtzmartin, on 08/17/2008, -0/+2Waste. Not "waist".
- inactive, on 08/17/2008, -3/+5Why does somebody always say that? Is that a new meme or something?
- sweetbean, on 08/17/2008, -0/+2The music in that video is horrible.
- gbhall, on 08/17/2008, -0/+2HAHA I live in Auckland, NZ. No wonder I always get lost, even with my Navman
- aserer511, on 08/17/2008, -0/+2I don't care what you say, that is beautiful
- SRSco, on 08/17/2008, -0/+2Actually, "spaghetti bowl" is a commonly used nickname for highway connections (not just in LV, NV):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spaghetti_Bowl
So the name DOESN'T say it all (the "Spaghetti Bowl" in SLC, UT, for example, isn't that impressive, yet has the same nickname). -
