Oasis In the Middle of Nowhere (PICS)
wackyarchives.com — This amazing place is built in the middle of the desert, around a small lake. Located in the Ica Province, near the city of Ica, Huacachina is known as the oasis of America, where many tourists come for the huge sand dunes and sandsurfing.

- Diggalickable, on 02/14/2008, -17/+14Give me 2 weeks there, and I will be as good as new!
- PlayRadioPlay, on 02/14/2008, -6/+1ttly shooped
- TomTruelle, on 02/14/2008, -0/+6are you broken?
- sloppjyoe890, on 02/14/2008, -0/+3What?
- geekchic, on 02/14/2008, -1/+88As the blog doesn't say which country it is in - it is in Peru.
- padrebuf, on 02/14/2008, -0/+27and it's not exactly in the middle of nowhere.
- Ninjab3ar, on 02/14/2008, -8/+2Anyone know why its called the Oasis of America?
- *jooloop*, on 02/14/2008, -2/+12I'm guessing the word "South" is implied
- McGrude, on 02/14/2008, -0/+18SOUTH America? Either or both the north american and south american continents can be referred to as America.
- sgtbutterscotch, on 02/14/2008, -5/+2Maybe it's the only oasis in America?
- tkotam, on 02/14/2008, -1/+1America usually means either:
* The Americas, the lands and regions of the Western hemisphere
* The United States of America, a country in the Americas
- SEN5241, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1And the description of the mythical origins of this place are completely mis-quoted from the original article:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/new ...
- thelastcivilian, on 02/14/2008, -3/+6Dude, sandsurfing looks sweeeeet!
- Rhino2, on 02/14/2008, -1/+7I NO, RITE!?
- purple, on 02/14/2008, -0/+6Wait until you fall.
- noahhoward, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2Seriously, I'd guess it's like hitting your skin with a belt sander
- DrywallThief, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2I was curious about sandboarding so I looked it up on wikipedia ---
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandboarding
"An interesting fact about sandboarding is that it is said to have been invented in Egypt over 2 million years ago. The ancient Egyptians would ride down the large sand dunes on stone tablets to avoid falling or getting caught in the strong desert winds."
WTF? - pastasauce, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1I need to go sand boarding.
I live an hour away from Sand Master Park, the first sand boarding park, but yet, I've never tried it.
- tribble222, on 02/14/2008, -3/+153Inaccurate. It's right next to a huge city. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=- ...
- stevot, on 02/14/2008, -0/+3yeah, and you can even see the city in one of the pics too...
who would want sand in their asses? that doesn't sound like paradise to me...- Cholito, on 02/16/2008, -0/+1cuz you haven't ben there before ;) I was there twice and it was AMAZING ;) a real paradise...
- MrSilverblood, on 02/14/2008, -0/+13Yeah, you're right. You can see the city behind it in the second picture. Still cool though. Looks like a great place for a nice relaxing vacation.
- wondertwins, on 02/14/2008, -2/+1so thats where they get their water...
- Rawler, on 02/14/2008, -7/+3buried as innacurate and misleading.
- Tiak, on 02/14/2008, -1/+10Inaccurate and misleading, but still insanely cool
- willster580, on 02/14/2008, -1/+3Well, that kinda ruins the whole thing.
- sgtbutterscotch, on 02/14/2008, -0/+7It did say it's "near" the city of Ica.
- dannyboy3020, on 02/14/2008, -1/+6But it also said it's "in the middle of nowhere."
- delfin1, on 02/14/2008, -0/+7technically it is in the middle of nowhere...
- dannyboy3020, on 02/14/2008, -1/+6But it also said it's "in the middle of nowhere."
- Kratos76, on 02/14/2008, -2/+2Yeah, burried, like that sand surfer will be at the bottom of the hill. Seriously though, this is actually kinda cool! If you zoom out though, look how close it is to THE OCEAN!!!!!
- JARSInc, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1Is that some kind of force field to the right?
- ChooChoo3000, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1You buzzkill.
- falstaff, on 02/14/2008, -1/+1Inaccurate and on Digg just a few weeks ago. Who submits this sh- ...oh, nevermind.
- stevot, on 02/14/2008, -0/+3yeah, and you can even see the city in one of the pics too...
- ghgh1313, on 02/14/2008, -6/+0What's the story?
- emosewami, on 02/14/2008, -0/+4Morning Glory?
- ghgh1313, on 02/14/2008, -1/+0thank you
- Quickbreak, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1Well, need a little time to wake up, wake up
- ghgh1313, on 02/14/2008, -0/+0yeah the lyrics have always made me wonder...
- emosewami, on 02/14/2008, -0/+4Morning Glory?
- sockpuppets, on 02/14/2008, -2/+52404: Oasis not found
- McGrude, on 02/14/2008, -2/+2Error 500 - Internal Oasis Error
- delfin1, on 02/14/2008, -2/+1Error - Oasis has logged off
- pikpikcarrotmon, on 02/14/2008, -1/+1Error - Oasis is no longer funny. Thanks a lot.
- McGrude, on 02/14/2008, -2/+2Error 500 - Internal Oasis Error
- Alegoo92, on 02/14/2008, -3/+21Thats the definition of an oasis. An "Oasis in the middle of nowhere" (esp. when nowhere = dessert) is redundant.
- DontEatTheFish, on 02/14/2008, -1/+8you mean desert?
- sgtbutterscotch, on 02/14/2008, -0/+12I just got an awesome idea. What if you have a desert where the sands are actually pudding. Mmm dessert desert.
- Quickbreak, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2I will never desert my dessert in the desert.
- XxLindyxX, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2The middle of Nowhere is the safest part of Nowhere.
- rspeed, on 02/14/2008, -3/+1Nuñez, we really need to find a way out of this dessert. Nuñez? NUÑÑÑÑÑÑEZZZ!!!
- Perigren, on 02/14/2008, -4/+15Honestly who goes in the middle of that dessert and says to themselves "Wow this is really great why dont we build a 4 acre town here?"
- delfin1, on 02/14/2008, -0/+6i say that all the time.
- noelsusman, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2Nobody did...
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=- ... - aerofan897, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2That would be a delicious place to build a town. The citizens would be thrilled!
- muslax27, on 02/14/2008, -0/+13Yeah its like 3 miles from a major city.....but still very cool
- Chromium24, on 02/14/2008, -1/+2I'd love to go to this place. It looks amazingly beautiful, doesn't it?
- ryancalderoni, on 02/14/2008, -0/+12cool but how long until it's buried in shifting dunes?
- delfin1, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1uhmmm dunes, gahhhh......
- Cholito, on 02/16/2008, -0/+1it has been like that for hundreds of years, so it looks like it's gonna be like that for a while...
- cl2yp71c, on 02/14/2008, -4/+1Sand-boarding with upside down skateboards.....sweeet!
- *jooloop*, on 02/14/2008, -1/+4Upside-down? How does that work? How about just taking off the trucks, and using a bit of duct tape?
- cl2yp71c, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1Oops.
It looked to me like the wheels were on the top.
- cl2yp71c, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1Oops.
- schtick01101, on 02/14/2008, -0/+4Call me blind but I believe what they are using are called "snow"boards. I am using the word snow loosely here though. Upside down skateboards would make for a very devastating ride.
- *jooloop*, on 02/14/2008, -1/+4Upside-down? How does that work? How about just taking off the trucks, and using a bit of duct tape?
- Farik, on 02/14/2008, -1/+93MrBabyMan duping 30 day old articles that he dugg, tsk tsk!

http://www.digg.com/travel_places/Amazing_oasis_to ...- MrBabyMan, on 02/14/2008, -30/+6Are you kidding me? I took a look at your link above. That article had one single picture. One. By counts this submission is nine times more awesome.
- TimeIsTissue, on 02/14/2008, -14/+2SHUT UP.
I ENVY THE ***** OUT OF YOUR DIGGS. I BELIEVE DIGG HAS HAD IT!
ATTACK DIGGERS! USE NERDY CODE FROM PLANET BOOGER, OR WHATEVER ATTACKS WE HAVE! - rawrzzz, on 02/14/2008, -1/+6His link has a video.
- delfin1, on 02/14/2008, -0/+4lets see, if a picture is worth a thousand words, and a video is many many pictures...then it is obvious that this argument is stupid.
- rspeed, on 02/14/2008, -8/+1Not that you'll care, but I'm considering blocking you because of this comment.
- TimeIsTissue, on 02/14/2008, -14/+2SHUT UP.
- physco827, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2I was thinking the exact same thing Farik when I saw it on the front page again. Digg even has you check for duplicates when you submit a new, but people still submit duplicates. Don't get me wrong its a cool little place, but I already know about it.
- studdenfadden, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1The duplicate check only goes back 24 hours.
- physco827, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1I wasn't aware of that thank you.
- studdenfadden, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1The duplicate check only goes back 24 hours.
- Farik, on 02/14/2008, -0/+3I like a good duplicate from time to time, and this was one of them. I was just being slightly sarcastic and whoring a few anti-poweruser diggs.
- MrBabyMan, on 02/14/2008, -7/+3LOL! It's cool man, go for it. Everyone seems to be "whoring a few anti-poweruser diggs" these days.
- Farik, on 02/14/2008, -1/+1(I still love you guys)
- MrBabyMan, on 02/14/2008, -7/+3LOL! It's cool man, go for it. Everyone seems to be "whoring a few anti-poweruser diggs" these days.
- MrBabyMan, on 02/14/2008, -30/+6Are you kidding me? I took a look at your link above. That article had one single picture. One. By counts this submission is nine times more awesome.
- SamPollock, on 02/14/2008, -0/+3What are you talking about? In the first picture there is a huge city in the background.
- Phernoree, on 02/14/2008, -1/+6i was hoping this was the name of Oasis's new album
- Jeffler, on 02/14/2008, -1/+1Kind of related, I thought they'd gone missing because Liam decided he wanted to be the drummer for the new album or some crazy *****.
- elizabethb221, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1Would that be Oasis covering Hanson's Middle of Nowhere album?
- Zlorp, on 02/14/2008, -0/+3i thought the whole point of an oasis was that it was in the middle of nowhere
- HiKevinRose, on 02/14/2008, -1/+1Wow, that Oasis is so small I couldn't even see it hiding behind that Server Error text.. impressive!
- Akraz, on 02/14/2008, -1/+1Must be pretty sandy there, I might add ;)
- browwiw, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1While pretty in the pictures, I bet it's a goddam pain in the ass everytime the wind pics up.
- tehbored, on 02/14/2008, -0/+3Wow. Sandboarding. That looks freaking awesome.
- AquaJiva, on 02/14/2008, -0/+0Haha, it's not. I did it in Oregon and it sucks. You have to walk up the hills unless you are with a friend and atv. You also have to wax your board EVERY time you want to go down. Stick to surfing and snowboarding.
- JaredXM, on 02/14/2008, -0/+3It's just a mirage.
- acceleration, on 02/14/2008, -0/+6Mirror: http://209.85.173.104/search?q=cache:v57CR-xebIsJ: ...
- xyqxyq, on 02/14/2008, -2/+4This title brought to you by the American Redundancy Department of Redundancy of America. It's hard to behold an oasis NOT in the middle of nowhere, because that would make it not an oasis.
- illspaz, on 02/14/2008, -0/+3http://www.umuc.edu/
- moonguidex, on 02/14/2008, -2/+1you had it... but then you explained it and took the awesomeness out of the redundant theme...
- k00k, on 02/14/2008, -0/+6I was expecting Liam and Noel
- digidelia, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2i'd like to see a wallpaper sized version of the first one. maybe just photoshop out the city...
- saladdays, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1wait.....there's sandboarding?
- Wootinator, on 02/14/2008, -1/+1So they finally found Osama?
- EvanWindsor, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1Wow that would be really cool. Until the wind picked up and moved the entire dune protecting the place on TOP of the place
- CayoHuesoDude, on 02/14/2008, -6/+1Jebus Effing Christ!!!!
This has been on Digg a few times already.
Something tells me Digg is becoming irrelevant.
Oh well.... it was a good run for about a year and a half I guess.- Fokma, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2Over reacting much?
- BuckCynnie, on 02/14/2008, -2/+2Buried for redundancy, an oasis is always in the middle of nowhere, hence an oasis.
- Delber, on 02/14/2008, -1/+2Said not sayd
- uziko, on 02/14/2008, -1/+1it's in peru
- hextic, on 02/14/2008, -3/+10***** the RIAA.
- loconet, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1Ah yes, been there many times. Beautiful place. There is a legend that says there is a mermaid inside the lagoon. I used to swim in there and be scared that the crazy mermaid would grab my legs and drag me down.
- Scott.Lyles, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1The city of Ica is indeed very close, but the city is not that big, it takes several hours to get there and I would still say that Ica in Peru is still pretty much in the middle of nowhere.
- skippyrandom, on 02/14/2008, -0/+0Anyone else slightly attracted to the sandboard lady?
- tomatoflight, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1ugh, you kiddin me?
- joshPB, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1I wonder what they do about sand storms and things like that. I'm sure they would bury the town. At least a couple inches/feet of it.
- Artemisian, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1Inaccurate, but still damn good. I would hit that.
- xxgigavirusxx, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1Umm.. Did anyone else notice theres a city behind the Oasis
yeah... - kamk2k8, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1cool but its about 5 years away from being swallowed into that gigantic city in the background
- stillasleep00, on 02/14/2008, -1/+3I'd hate to be there when the wind picks up
- noelsusman, on 02/14/2008, -2/+2This was on the frontpage 30 days ago...
http://www.digg.com/travel_places/Amazing_oasis_to ...- Odopoddie, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1Don't know how I missed it, freakin' awesome!
- philipl411, on 02/14/2008, -1/+4people keep submitting the same story over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over. Digg sucks
- cryonix, on 02/14/2008, -0/+3isn't an oasis by definition in the middle of nowhere?
- theradical, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1does anyone else look at that and only see a really wicked zombie movie?
- boejangles, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1No doubt, lots of sand will get into vaginas.
- AquaJiva, on 02/14/2008, -0/+0sandboarding SUCKS! I went to the dunes in Oregon to try it. Without a friend and ATV you must continually walk up the hills and to gain any speed you must wax your board EVERY time you do down the hill... only to not get that much speed. Stick to surfing and snowboarding.
- mayra1201, on 02/14/2008, -0/+0umm.... not really in the middle of nowhere. i've been there and it's seriously about three miles from the nearest city. the only problem is that it's a little hard to get to huacachina, but really not "in the middle of nowhere"
- opie66, on 02/14/2008, -0/+0Skip to 1:20 for the lagoon and sandboarding.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2YUiYn9XSc - adamjw, on 02/15/2008, -0/+0This is the real Oasis in the Middle of Nowhere
