- ScreenRant, on 09/24/2008, -8/+103What's wrong is that they lost so many viewers due to the series going downhill last season that many decided not to come back despite promises of improvement this year.
- KyleRayner, on 09/25/2008, -4/+85They shouldve never started time traveling.
- ScreenRant, on 09/24/2008, -4/+69Yeah, the Hiro/safe thing WAS annoying. Especially when right after speed-chick took the paper he didn't just go back in time 5 freaking minutes and NOT open the safe.
Duh. - insomniac8400, on 09/24/2008, -5/+58Because the second season was ruined by the writers strike and the beginning of this new season wasn't good and did nothing to fix what was lost by the shortened second season. So the short answer to the questions is that the writers ruined the show.
- version22l, on 09/26/2008, -22/+62LOST > Heroes
- pauls88, on 09/26/2008, -3/+42Because Hayden is legal this season?
- kinseyincanada, on 09/26/2008, -1/+39whatever they still have the Office
- psibladeZX, on 09/24/2008, -3/+39The second season sucked so bad that people got turned off by it. The plot premise was absolutely awful for season 2. What viewers that like the show really want to see is a realistic X-Men which was what the show was about... And it got away from that premise and so the show lost viewers. Plus having it go up against other popular shows (such as Prison Break, Dancing, and NCIS or whatever show that is) makes for stiffer competition.
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 09/26/2008, -1/+34A) I didn't even know the season premiere was this week, so bad for NBC's promo/ad/marketing department. I doubt I was alone in this.
B) Time traveling is a HUGE mistake in any television series. John Q public just won't be able to follow along. It's use in season 1 was dead on. It's use in season 2 was flat out ridiculous. And this season looks like it's going to be even more of a mess.
C) It seems obvious that the creators do not have a 5 year arc mapped out on this, OR the studio has completely flubbed it up. Either way, it shows...really badly.
That said, this season's pilot wasn't awful, but eesh, what's with the Legion of Dumb loser brigade?! How trite. - mythicflux, on 09/26/2008, -1/+33Except that they spent all of season 1 and 2 establishing the idea that Hiro can't change the past for the sake of the future. Season 1 had Charlie's death. Season 2 had Kaito Nakamura's. Each of these deaths occurred no matter what Hiro did. What they established is that Hiro can only change events that have not yet happened. Any attempt to go back results in the changes not occurring.
The real problem so far is that the writers screwed up by having Future Peter change the past. If Hiro can't do it, why can Peter? - koenigje, on 09/24/2008, -24/+53I don't know about you guys but the season premier was awesome! It is shaping up to be another great season.......so many great directions the show can go. I can't wait until next Monday!
- pyang, on 09/26/2008, -0/+30It's just poor writing - the writers have made it so that anyone can do anything at any time for any reason. Each character never acts in a way that befits their character. Hiro doesn't kill Adam Monroe like he says he will. Suresh is the most idiotic geneticist EVER. Nathan flips out and has a weird religious conversion that doesn't make any logical sense. Peter has the IQ of a lemur. Niki will never EVER get over her multiple personality disorder simply because it would defeat the purpose - create new plots just by making her into a different person i.e. Tracy Strauss.
And so on and so forth.
It's just so painfully obvious where the writers change up someone's actions that it fails to become interesting. Sure the plots are complex and they weave back and forth - but how is that worth watching if it's manufactured ***** complexity to begin with?
There needs to be a plot that actually moves along, with less complexity, less intentional hiding of information, and characters that actually do what would make sense for them to do. - crossmr, on 09/26/2008, -0/+26bittorrent downloads which are ad free don't help them make money. They only count viewers who watch the ads.
They don't care how many people are watching the show, they care how many are watching the ads.
Do you think they just make shows out of the goodness of their heart? - inactive, on 09/26/2008, -3/+27the 2nd season sucked hardcore compared to the 1st, what did they expect?
- unhg, on 09/26/2008, -8/+32No, what's wrong is that they have a ***** up bias system of TV viewership rating. They don't account for those that download or stream via websites. It's bad numbers that killed good shows like Futurerama, Jericho, or Firefly.
- toxictonic, on 09/26/2008, -1/+25Not to mention Mohinder Suresh suddenly becomes annoyingly stupid. So much fail. :(
- shotgunefx, on 09/26/2008, -0/+22Not only that, how ***** safe is the "safe" when you leave the remote within 10ft? Like me leaving me key "fob" on the hood of my car to insure it would never be stolen.
Yeah, yeah, it had a "thumb" scanner. All I know is that it looks like more of the same. How are the Petrelli's so easy to persuade to destroy the whole ***** world, every season? It seems just about as easy and predictable as invading CSU - machocheese34, on 09/26/2008, -1/+22at least the office is back
- Shogi, on 09/25/2008, -3/+23They aren't counting online viewers though. i saw more than 40,000 downloads on the torrent for the promo show alone. And that was before it even aired here in the US.
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -1/+22Yeah, it's become like Days of Our Lives now. You can tell the writers don't know where the story is going because they've infused the plot line with "get out of writing yourself into a corner free" cards. Like Peter Petrelli, who can have any power ever and only sometimes has to explain where or how he got it. Also Clair can bring anybody back form the dead whenever, so when someone dies you never know if they are really dead which takes all the tension and drama out of the series.
Also, don't blame the writer's strike for last season's ***** ending. They could have just postponed the show and waited it out, but instead they thought it was better to just give it a ***** temporary fix-all ending akin to when a record needle scratches off the disk right before your favorite part of the song. Not the strike's fault that they pussed out. - LanEvo, on 09/26/2008, -1/+21WHY WASN'T THE PIECE OF PAPER JUST ***** DESTROYED.
and i hate pretty much anything involving time travel. - landosystem, on 09/26/2008, -2/+22Time travel is the worst plot device ever. It renders everything moot when you can go back and undo anything.
- xfernando, on 09/24/2008, -2/+20Prison Break's third season was WAY worse than Heroes' second season.
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 09/26/2008, -1/+19Agreed. The Season 1 finale was the worst episode of Season 1. Sooooo much incredibly well done hype building up through the season and then suuuuuuch a huge anticlimactic letdown.
- schrutefan, on 09/26/2008, -6/+23Heroes is a mess.
- roguewriter, on 09/26/2008, -2/+19This is actually a very easy question to answer. NBC/Universal is run by MBAs and accountants who are unwilling to invest in imagination and new ideas when they can fund what they see as "sure things" based on proven properties. Same philosophy shared by the majority of America's entertainment industry.
Do not blame the actors, writers, or production crews. Blame the management.
Want an easy "in" to the television business? Be the first person to come up with a "compelling" reimagining of Gilligan's Island. Hollywood will fight to pay you millions for it. - crice, on 09/26/2008, -5/+211) Why is the Mexican girl still around?
2) Why can't the Heroes who read minds just ***** READ PEOPLE'S MINDS????
3) Also, what happened the Mimic?
When Matt Parker asked the African dude who he was, I nearly threw my remote at my TV. He can read minds, why does he even need to ASK? - cryonix, on 09/26/2008, -1/+17Whats also wrong with it is that they cant keep people dead... when people die, they should stay dead, and if they do decide to write a 'death reversal' don't do it for almost all the dead characters.
- SoldOutMatinee, on 09/26/2008, -2/+16
it was not great. It had the potential of being an amazing finale but it fell flat by being anticlimactic. They should take a few hints from the LOST finales. - robotomeister, on 09/26/2008, -0/+14You made it to the third season of Prison Break?
- LongShlong, on 09/26/2008, -5/+20Answer: Heroes is a cross between something awesome (x-men) and something gay (ballet).
- fxu1989, on 09/26/2008, -2/+16The only good thing about the season 3 premiere were the side-boobs of Maya!
SIDE-BOOB, ***** YEAH!!!! - ThisCommentSux, on 09/26/2008, -0/+13It is just me, or did they turn Mohinder's character into Brundle-Fly?
- ZachGlazer, on 09/26/2008, -0/+14The entire show is "Hiro don't do this" or "Peter don't do that." They do it anyway and everything gets messed up and nothing gets accomplished. Then you find out that two characters are related...end of season 3.
- jimv1983, on 09/26/2008, -0/+13He can read peoples thoughts when the person thinks them. Who often to you walk around think about who you are. Do you walk around and just think. Hey, I'm Bob and I'm in San Francisco!
And its not Parker its Parkman - NikZ, on 09/26/2008, -1/+13I may have misread your comment, but what does JJ have to do with the Heroes season 3 premier?
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -0/+12It's stupid because... Sylar should have died. But now he is still stealing powers, and it's just some ***** melodrama show with the X-Men in it. It's like X-Men on estrogen. There are too many paradoxes, the writing keeps looping over and over again. Season one had suspense, it's built up to something and left an amazing ending for viewers to want more. Season two was killed by the writers strike, we get it - but they haven't redeemed themselves in season 3 yet at all.
Now Cheerleader bitch can't FEEL anything, so she is all emo. Peter has like 6 different versions of himself. Nathan is becoming some religious nut. Dr. Whatever his name is has powers now and is ***** the hot mexican chick who gets pissed off. The dad is locked up, but he was going to die last season, but he's locked up now. It's all so campy and it just feels so forced now.
"Next week on Heroes: Will Peter be bad or good, again? Will Hiro do some stupid ***** and have 59 minutes dedicated to him alone? We'll see. Stay tuned!!!" - Wangeye, on 09/26/2008, -0/+12Seriously, after watching the premier this week, my wife went on to say "Wow, this is just a soap opera."
- locojones, on 09/26/2008, -0/+11Heroes Season 1 was riveting, unique, and interesting. It had potential to be a very dark, very cerebral show. Unfortunately, the first two episodes of Season 3 exhibit nothing but lazy writing and predictable contrivances.
How many seasons do we have to put up with "Oh, I saw the future, and if we don't do something to avert it, we're all doomed??" Been there, done that.
And now we have to put up with things like super-emo Claire, and a ridiculously uncharacteristic Mohinder, and we're still plagued by too many characters, a story arc that doesn't know exactly where to go, and some moments so silly that it just makes you want to groan. I really really want to like Heroes again, but when you're so unoriginal that you're pulling your characters straight out of X-Men (Magneto, Pyro, Mr. Fear, etc.), then it's time to clean house.
If I have to watch any more of Maya, I'm going to stab my eyes out. - gonjeng, on 09/26/2008, -1/+12Even before the writer strike, the second season
has gone downhill. the first 5 episode was really really terrible. From acting ( one liners, gimme them ) to stupid story lines (not the cheerleader ego again), enormous story flaws (ability to see the future by drawing Hiro in the past,WTF). Whatever it is, the writer strike probably save the show. - Velnich, on 09/26/2008, -0/+11Hiro's power should have been left at time stopping and teleporting.
- eloestea, on 09/26/2008, -0/+11ABC already did that and its called L O S T
- evil-doer, on 09/26/2008, -0/+10this article and story submission is about why there wasnt a good viewer turnout for the premiere. and over half of the people here are saying its because the premiere sucked. dont you see the ***** paradox of this? how the hell can that be the reason if they didnt watch it?
- rhinopig, on 09/26/2008, -0/+10They are so close to having 13 paradoxes on the board.
- Handonam, on 09/26/2008, -0/+10Dwight Schrute: "I am not a hero. I am a mere defender of the office. You know who's a real hero? Hiro, from Heroes. That's a hero... Also, Bono. "
**Insert Dwight Schrute ascii made by Pam** - BowieX, on 09/26/2008, -2/+11Three words:
Novelty. Wore. Off. - Genecalypse, on 09/26/2008, -2/+12It's called X-Men
- tidejwe, on 09/26/2008, -1/+10Heroes is as popular as ever, but it appears everyone's watching the ad-free version: http://torrentfreak.com/heroes-causes-bittorrent-b ...
I personally have no problem watching the legally provided version with 3-30 second ads: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0813715/episodes At least that way I can support them for the show while not being annoyed to death having to schedule a time to watch it and sit through 15 minutes of ads. - Lynxpro, on 09/26/2008, -2/+11...the fact that Doctor Who is the longest running scifi series ever proves your point of "time traveling is a HUGE mistake in any television series" as false.
