He's the richest man in the world and he's been in hundreds, if not thousands, of these situations. So I gotta disagree that with the explanation that he was "just nervous". It's more likely that he made a mistake and thought Stewart's wrap-up was a cue for him to leave.
As someone who really likes Jon Stewart and the Daily Show, I gotta say this was one of the poorer interviews Stewart has done. His jokes were funny, but he controlled the conversation way too much and failed to get Gates to talk what he's interested in. It was like he had done no research and so he couldn't talk at all about anything in Gate's world. it was a 5 minute interview, Connie was in the middle of asking another question
Bill got up took off his mic, and walked out, 5 minutes was up...
Time waits for no one.
being the wealthiest in money does not equate to wealthiest in time
Honestly if all you had was time to spend, would you waste much of it ? - uptown, on 10/12/2007, -4/+79@ActiveMatx: It was Matt Damon on Jimmy Kimmel .... and yes, it was pre-planned.

- WhereAmI, on 10/12/2007, -19/+74I do hope some of you realize this is the richest man in the world and has a busy schedule. Vista came out a few hours after the show, mind you.
I know the show is pre-recorded. He still has to get to wherever he went.
Did anyone else's Best Buy have spot lights and opened at 12AM this morning? - Rikkochet, on 10/12/2007, -9/+57You're supposed to say "Linux" or "Mac"... Aren't you trendy? Yeesh!
- schnitzi, on 10/12/2007, -10/+55>Reminds me of when some actor (cant remember at this moment), stormed off either Letterman or Conan very upset... but it was all a skit. It was well acted, and fooled me. The video is popular and has made its way around the net.
I bet you're a great joke teller, my friend.
"I know one -- a person walks into a bar, or a convenience store. He says something funny to the person working there, who, uh, says something even funnier in return. - goodoldharris, on 10/12/2007, -4/+48"How sad is it to be that rich and have no time..."
Not sad at all if you're busy doing the things you love and are passionate about. And it seems like that's what Gates is doing. - lazyrussian, on 10/12/2007, -3/+37http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4suTsIIBWo - Link to original broadcast of interview on Daily Show
- rembot, on 10/12/2007, -3/+36Don't take it too heart, this isn't dissing BIlly G. I thought it was funny, I use linux as #1 OS but i still respect Bill Gates for what he has done to the world, the amount of lives he has saved is amazing! He puts so much money into third world countries, we should be proud of him for that :)

where did you hear he has asperger's from? I know there's been rumours for ages but I don't think he's ever been formally diagnosed. Most nerds are that way inclined (somewhere on the far edge of the autistic spectrum at least) but nowhere near as affected as those classified with the syndrome. I'd just put it down to little bit of shyness and the fact Jon was coming at him from all angles, throwing in jokes and serious comments together. I don't think anyone watching knew what kind of question was coming next. - grumpyrain, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18"Hey broomett, an application crash shouldn't kill the OS. And yet that's what happens with Windows..."
Err, no it' s not. Unless you are referring to 9x. Each process is isolated on NT4/2K/XP/2003/Vista. A crash of a hardware driver can kill the OS, just as it can on any OS. - CornStarch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17I don't think that happenstance is unique enough for one person to claim rights to.
- combatchuck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Yeah, that may be true, but the fact remains that the stock for Kraft foods is down 0.97%. I like cheese, but I really don't like video tapes. What smells like cement? So you see, it can't be true because of the counterclockwise rotation of a flushing toilet bowl in the southern hemisphere, because that's just a myth. In reality, penguins can sing.

- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10He wasn't bashing him.. if you saw the interview Bill got tons of respect from him and the audience, he was just surprised when he left before they switched over to commercials. It was clearly just nerdy Bill moment, and I bet he apologized afterward.
- TheTjalian, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11@3dom
As a person who has Aspergers Syndrome, I can safely say that it's possible to have it and learn to "grow" out of it, if you will. You always have it, of course, you just learn how to work around it, almost like using it to your advantage and throw away the disadvantages. That being said, he probably DOES have it, he just knows how not to make it so obvious. - saska, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1090 year old grandmothers, for example, know how to press F7.

Well, it was an Internet Explorer error that popped up. :| - nazadus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9@vlcortho:
Please explain how that is semantic.
Storming off a set, implies that he got angry.
Walking off the set (to go catch a plane, go to a meeting, that's how it was supposed to happen, %insert your excuse here%), implies that he wasn't angry.
Also, from what I've heard (no solid evidence, sorry) this isn't the first time Bill did this either.
My argument against the semantics is that the description makes it sound like Steward did something to piss Bill off and that you will find out if you watch it. Come to find out, no *real* answer was given. Since no real answer was given, and he didn't appear angry, how can you think that phej is wrong.
edit: modified some stuff up there only to realize that phej is already modded up far more than vclothro... doh! - coredump0x01, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Before you go questioning other people's intelligence, It's a wise move to at least spell and type right. That way you at least *look* smart.
Earlier Windows was crashing on one of my customers XP system (total lockup, BSOD). Turned out to be a crappy webcam driver. I guess he is an idiot for allowing the driver to crash the windows kernel by your mentality, He should've known better and thoroughly reverse-engineered the driver and examined the code before installing it to make sure it works. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Ok I found it reposted on.....*cringe*.....Google Video.
Question for YouTube users....
Am I the only one that thinks Google Video 'beta' sucks out loud? It's like some over-paid, hippie-geek gone darkside prick @ Google was like "Hmmm..... itunes and YouTube are kickin some DotCom booty! What should we do??" " "How bout we steal ideas from both, throw together a site with alot of scary jave code, call it "beta" so we can cover our arses for the lack of features, weak layout/interface and try to charge people to use/download from it in some lame file format that we'll make up on the spot that can only play videos FROM OUR SITE!!!!" Sounds action-packed with the kind of things that bewilder the avrg computer user and you know what that means right?" "We get to sell those suckers a book that tells them how to use our site?" "BINGO!"
---Anyways....
The video is called:
"TDS Gates Crash"

he left before anyone had a chance to do anything - WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I liked how, on the Daily Sow, Jon Stewart immediately brought up the touchy subject of piracy, in the most subtle way.
When Gates mentionjed all the people who had downloaded the beta version of Vista, Jon responded to the word 'downloaded'....obviously as a reference to file sharing!
But Gates didn't discuss that topic.
I would have liked to see Gates on the Colbert report...but I bet he wouldn't dare go there.
The 'Colbert Report' immediately following Gates' appearance started with a story about how Microsoft paid someone to edit Wikipedia to make certain entries more favorable to Microsoft. Then Stephen introduced 'The Word'....'Wikilobbying'.
But that is all history now, as someone apparently already took him up on the challenge to change the Wiki definition of Reality.
