- GibZilla, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30Mike Rowe already does that show. It's called "Dirty Jobs"
- Ramble, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Will this have both of them presenting, only one or neither?
Mythbusters only woks because they work fantastically well together.
More importantly, is Kari going to be on the shows? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17HowStuffWorks.com - the TV Show. Well, that ought to be interesting.
- salinemist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Let's hope it's not as slow as the website.
- KingDaveRa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Both those shows sound cool, although there's already How It's Made and How Do They Do That on Discovery, How It Works will probably end up re-hashing some stuff that's already been done. I look forward to seeing the shows though.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16No Kari Byron = No success
All joking aside, these shows seem interesting. I usually only watch Dirty Jobs and Mythbusters, but these might catch my attention - ajchavar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9i dont even know if jamie and adam will be on the shows, these new shows are simply from the same production company.
- edzieba, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It's from the producers, not the hosts. I don't think Adam or Jamie are even involved (there's nothing to indicate either way in the article).
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Will either of these be aired in HD?
Why is Mythbusters not in HD, despite being shot in widescreen and aired on one of the few cable networks that has an HD version. - chair, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6This company _invented_ Mythbusters. Adam and Jamie are just the hosts. It's mentioned in one of the episodes, the producer was looking to start a show about busting myths, he knew Adam and Jamie because they were featured in a segment on Robot Wars in Beyond 2000.
- clubmasta2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It seems this show will be more talored to how things like fireproof gear works and is made, while the other show looks at stuff like candy and wood stuff. Revolutionary vs. Mass production I'm thinking.
- KriLL3.2™, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Wondered why it mentioned Australia every second sentence, then noticed the URL.
And yes even if this company is behind Mythbusters (I didn't know they where) it's Jamie and Adam that makes it all work. - realyst, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I feel I should give you a heads up:
self promoting sig == digg down and/or ignore - ingxia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I know one of the hosts/engineers for "Prototype This!" It's being filmed in the San Jose area in California. The first episode is said to feature a robotic device to automatically hurl your neighbor's dog ***** from your lawn back over to their lawn. He said there are 4 other hosts/engineers who all work together and presumably have a fun (and smelly) time doing it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah I've always wondered that. Crap like West Coast Choppers is broadcast in HD while worthy shows like Mythbusters are not. I just don't get it.
- ajchavar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3FTA: Both are set down for international release through the pay-TV network.
that of course doesn't mean that they won't be on discovery/tlc/history at some point. but it also doesn't mean that they will be. . . - marvinmatthew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Prototype does sound good, but as others have metioned, Cool Stuff does sound like a copy of a show that Discovery already has in place.
- chembro84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I will be "season passing" both of these on my Tivo.
- kingfoot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3but the important question, is jamie and adam gonna be on here? cause mythbusters wouldnt be the same without them.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I loves shows like this
Reminds me of the old TechTV - clubmasta2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm glad I watch that channel all day long then.
- styxlord, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Beyond may be well known in the US for Mythbusters, but geeks down under will fondly remember some of their earlier efforts, "Towards 2000" and "Beyond 2000"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Towards_2000 - realyst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yup. We got that reran for many a year up here in Canada(to the point of many things they were saying had gotten very very outdated). Dunno about the folks down south though.
They were really top notch shows both. Good soundtracks too(I remember freaking out when I recognized a Juno Reactor and Joe Satriani tune) - lunarworks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I remember that show. It used to broadcast on a local station here in Canada (CHCH, I think) back in the '80s.
- Zidul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i hope they find a good cast, and not like that stupid annoying hick on the show Patent Pending(i think thats what it was called) which was another show trying to ride on mythbusters' sucess.
- BigSlacker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I used to love Beyond 2000. It worked pretty good when consumer high tech was a new thing but I don't know if people would find it interesting today.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope they got a mustache hair brained scientist in these.... otherwise, no cheese.
- kevinthegeek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Mythbusters Pwns
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They still have a similar show in the US called Beyond Tomorrow. It's entertaining from time to time.
- jtorkbob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well it's largely about how the production company is tooled. Investing in HD is _huge_, even for a successful show like MythBusters. Cameras, tape stock, post-production... it's a big switch.
- dAbReAkA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hoping to see a reminding article here when the first episodes appear..
- evilelf2407, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1prototype sounds amazing.
- BigSlacker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It seems most of the "how stuff works" shows suck these days. They spend most of their time with a slick voice over saying not much more than "this is really cool" or they cut through scenes of people arguing and stuff blowing up. Mythbusters is better than most because they attack the common problem of just believing conventional wisdom without thinking about it.
- Zips, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This sounds a lot like one of Discovery's old shows: "The Know Zone" ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0374410/ )
It was on quite a few years back, and it was shown with a show that was all about the secrets of movies. I believe it was called "Movie Magic"
Two great shows that should still be going on today. Just glad to see one of them making a spiritual return. - drules101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Its a cool idea and im exitede to see how they do the show. i just hope that they dont do the same stuff as mythbusters.
- torabora, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1mistake, sorry!
- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5I hate you ***** who put that ***** below your comment. Digg has no signature system, you are putting it in, go ***** yourself! We dont want to go to your ***** site!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Slow? What are you talking about? They just got the flash movies for "incandescent lighting" and "toilet plumbing" up this week!
- dark_ryan, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3I can't wait, anyone know if it is going to be on Discovery Channel or what?
- adalgiso, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1w00t! 1000th digg!
- dime, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1...
- profOblivion, on 10/12/2007, -16/+6Uh, okay.
***** you.
*shrug* - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -20/+1seems like there are more and more science shows these days
