- username7410, on 10/03/2008, -7/+112Focus on her overuse of the phrase "Maverick" and then repeating every question - saying it's important - then reading canned responses for the remaining 60 seconds.
I think Palin actually benefited from the disastrous Couric interviews in this debate, expectations were so low that her being able to make words come out of her mouth that sound like a complete thought is considered a success. - moomza, on 10/03/2008, -15/+63Nope. Tina Fey's job gets EASIER every time that vapid woman opens her mouth, even when she rehearses.
- IndustrialJones, on 10/03/2008, -4/+42"Tina Fey's Job Just Got Harder"
That's what she said. - piratearggghhh, on 10/04/2008, -3/+36Tina Fey can still do it but this time she just can't go 'full retard'
- samard2002, on 10/04/2008, -3/+35Said the guy on an American website in the thread about an American political election being featured on an American television show.
I can't imagine where we got the idea that our culture is pervasive. How arrogant of us. - inactive, on 10/04/2008, -7/+35Are you kidding? Here's some material for you: Say it ain't so Joe. (wink) You betcha! (wink) Joe Six-pack. (wink) Hockey mom. (wink) Energy!!! (wink) Drill, baby drill! (wink) Maverik (yes, I spelled it wrong for the repbulicans here). (winnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnk)
- JaybeasCorpus, on 10/04/2008, -8/+30Tina Fey's job didn't get harder - just because Palin showed up and regurgitated some talking points doesn't make her candidacy any less ridiculous. Hell, her overuse of the word "also," her "folksy" manner of speaking, and those godawful winks to the camera are more than enough fodder for Tina Fey to put together another great SNL parody.
- BJF9999, on 10/04/2008, -1/+21You Betcha'!
Winking
Answers having nothing to do with the question
Shout out to 3rd graders AT A VICE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE!
Can I call you Joe?
Although she could put together sentences at the debate and read off of her talking-point note cards, there is still enough material for a 5-10 min skit. Tina Fey will still have a job. - insomniac8400, on 10/03/2008, -12/+31Not really. Palin fast talked, read scripts, looked like a robot, and occasionally threw in her dumb talk. SNL has a lot to work with.
- username7410, on 10/04/2008, -4/+20Does that somehow make Palin any less annoying? Does her winking at the ***** camera become appropriate now that Biden laughed off awkwardly a pointless jab?
No. Palin is still and idiot. - tellahoohooo, on 10/03/2008, -15/+29She is a joke, her performance proved that last night. If all she had to accomplish was not to mess up, well that is a sad sad accomplishment. She couldn't answer anything directly, her facts were off if existent, she kept winking at the camera as if to signal someone to make the lights go out in the auditorium so the debate would just end.
And she gave Tina plenty to work with, watch for the winks ;) - aresef, on 10/04/2008, -4/+17It's simple. When asked any question, Fey's Palin should pull out a wheel of topics, spin it, and whatever it lands on....ignore that too and talk about whatever the hell she wants.
- cheezintern, on 10/04/2008, -2/+14I got a job for Tina Fey, right here
- Tiak, on 10/04/2008, -0/+11Keep in mind that some of her complete thoughts had absolutely no relationship with the questions asked.
- RhoVisions, on 10/04/2008, -0/+11Sorry to say, people fear Palin because she's very much like Bush.
She stands for religion, I'll give you that. But not my religion. And not for the separation of state and religion.
I'm not sure what standards she stands for: using a private email address to avoid government oversight? Getting earmarks for a bridge to nowhere, canceling the project, then keeping the money? Not standards I can believe in.
She's as corrupt as any other politician. She's just not a DC politician.
Don't pretend she's so great. She's just another politician. But unlike the opposing ticket, she doesn't inspire anything. Its really sad that you think that because people are opposed to her, we're unintelligent. You're entitled to your views, you see her getting better... I don't. You see the Huffington post as garbage... I see it as an unfortunate middleman to other links, even the oh so praised Fox "News", who are by far the most biased news service anywhere. MSNBC is biased, definitely. CNN is not. They have as many Republicans talking on there as they do Democrats. In the end, they just don't get the result you like, so they are biased.
And frankly, I'll say this: I don't believe in conservatism. I think sticking to the past holds back from the future. It's kept inventions that could revolutionize the world off the market, its kept brilliant men and women hidden in the shadows (prior to Hillary Clinton's success, Palin would have been laughed out of the VP slot for the Republicans), and destroy valuable scientific, sociological, and historical discoveries that may never be replaced. Live in the future, and learn from the past. - TritonVision, on 10/04/2008, -0/+11apparently not enough to learn how to spell her name.
- howdareyou, on 10/04/2008, -4/+15Hey Palin it's NEWK-LEE-UR not NEW-CUE-LUR), got it?
- gx5ilver, on 10/04/2008, -2/+12Don't forget about NuCueLer.
- elipabst, on 10/04/2008, -0/+10I loved her response to Ifill's question about whether the vice President was a member of the executive branch. She had absolutely no idea what the question was about, she just started rambling on about her experience as an executive. It was the "I was told there would be no math" answer of the debate.
- utexas112, on 10/04/2008, -3/+11Um, she did bomb, I thought. Well, then again, maybe if you're a dumbass, she sounded good with her failed nucular pronouncin' terrorist killin' non-wealth-distributin' democracy-spreadin smack. She didn't say anything of substance all night. I'll admit though, she is quite good at talking in circles for a "Washington outsider."
- yacks, on 10/04/2008, -0/+8 IFILL: Governor, please if you want to respond to what he said about Sen. McCain's comments about health care?
PALIN: I would like to respond about the tax increases. We can speak in agreement here that darn right we need tax relief for Americans so that jobs can be created here. Now, Barack Obama and Sen. Biden also voted for the largest tax increases in U.S. history. Barack had 94 opportunities to side on the people's side and reduce taxes and 94 times he voted to increase taxes or not support a tax reduction, 94 times.
Now, that's not what we need to create jobs and really bolster and heat up our economy. We do need the private sector to be able to keep more of what we earn and produce. Government is going to have to learn to be more efficient and live with less if that's what it takes to reign in the government growth that we've seen today. But we do need tax relief and Barack Obama even supported increasing taxes as late as last year for those families making only $42,000 a year. That's a lot of middle income average American families to increase taxes on them. I think that is the way to kill jobs and to continue to harm our economy.
***further on***
PALIN: I'm still on the tax thing because I want to correct you on that again. And I want to let you know what I did as a mayor and as a governor. And I may not answer the questions that either the moderator or you want to hear, but I'm going to talk straight to the American people and let them know my track record also. - XopherMV, on 10/04/2008, -2/+10And? It's a typo. It happens. It doesn't mean username7410 was an idiot for making a single-letter mistake. Further, don't change the subject.
Palin's idiocy is pervasive. You can't just dismiss that by pointing out that someone made a typo. You can't dismiss McCain's poor decision making in choosing her. Neither one of them is qualified to be President. - macgarp, on 10/04/2008, -3/+10too much winking. winky wink wink
- yacks, on 10/04/2008, -0/+7Don't forget her constant use of "soccer moms" and "hockey moms" ;) Yes Yes Yes, I know you are part of that group Sarah, But you do know that each time you mention it, it makes a point that you are only the VP candidate to get those votes rather than being qualified..
- theeEqualizer, on 10/04/2008, -1/+8No purpose? Perhaps you haven't heard about her multiple Emmy award winning show "30 Rock"? Three of those Emmys went to her specifically. She was just stopping by SNL to do her Palin bit. She's not even on the show anymore.
Perhaps you should leave the cave more often. We live in houses now. - inactive, on 10/04/2008, -6/+13But she *did* bomb. Whenever she opens her mouth she bombs. And it's not the 'way she talks', I couldn't give less of a ***** about her accent, or appearance. The words coming out of her mouth are unbecoming of a candidate for executive office.
When you skirt basic questions and divert to some scarcely related topic, there should be red flags. I mean, yes, all the chatter and news articles NOT in her favor would indicate red flags, but somebody should just say "alright, we've had enough of this *****, get out of here you crazy hooker." - MScrip, on 10/04/2008, -3/+10I just figured out her secret.
For every 90 minutes where Palin doesn't look like a total fool... it takes 3 days of rehearsal.
So, for every year Palin would be in office... she would only have about 7 days worth of talk time. - inactive, on 10/04/2008, -2/+8you talk too much. and you probably smell.
long live the elitists. a lack of curiosity doesn't equal folksy. - WafflesID, on 10/04/2008, -0/+6Again, ARE YOU ***** KIDDING ME>!!??!?
I don't want someone talking to Kim Jong-Il like that!
"Oh, well, Lesseee'er. I hear you gots you some NOOKS over thar. TSK TSK, nope, Nosiree thats just Not gonna do ya see."
Or trying to negotiate peace in the middle east..
"WELL SEE Back in Alaska we would all huddle around the fire and cook up some moose burgers, and then GIVE EACH OTHER GREAT BIG HUGS"
***** *****.
NO. I want the man who is smart enough to teach constitutional law on my side. I want the man who can speak clearly and not ramble.
and btw I live in Idaho. Better goddamn believe I've been in the mid-west.
retard. - carbonetc, on 10/04/2008, -4/+10I'm amazed I haven't heard anyone mention how many times she said "nucular".
- wheresmclean, on 10/03/2008, -9/+15So far the writers of SNL haven't had to even CHANGE the Palin's words to impersonate her - I'd say they now HAVE a job because they'll actually have to write something instead of just copy pasting what that vacuous excuse for a potential VP says.
- inactive, on 10/04/2008, -1/+7Exactly. That, and they'll hone in on her avoidance of questions, guaranteed.
- siszam, on 10/04/2008, -0/+6Someone at the RNC held up a sign with "The Mavrick" on it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SVgxprgY_A - mwalker05, on 10/04/2008, -2/+8harder? with gems likes "say it aint so, joe," "nukular," "joe six-pack," and the half dozen winks she put out, i would say the debate provided a lot of new material
- theeEqualizer, on 10/04/2008, -1/+7That's not how New World Order Republicans pronounce it! Its NEW-CUE-LERR.
You know! Like what's at the center of an atom: a "Nucueless".
All that sort of thing really resonates with the dumbest common denominator. Not knowing how to say big fancy words is inviting and endearing.
You becha! It helps ya a lot when yer tryin' to talk about reformin' and shorin' up economies. Bush has been mispronouncing "nuclear" for years now. His fans love it! - Shirleycakes, on 10/04/2008, -2/+8Oooh, points for use of "vapid".
- ohnoerino, on 10/03/2008, -5/+10One word: ENERGY
- earther, on 10/04/2008, -0/+5Sarah Palin can be discredited with one sentence:
"Please explain how you became an expert on energy, but first define expert."
She can't ***** do either, yet we're supposed to believe she's one of the US's leading experts in the field?!? - WafflesID, on 10/04/2008, -1/+6Yes, she KILLED with such gems like:
"Say it ain't so, Joe, there you go again pointing backwards again. You preferenced [sic] your whole comment with the Bush administration. Now doggone it, let's look ahead and tell Americans what we have to plan to do for them in the future. You mentioned education, and I'm glad you did. I know education you are passionate about with your wife being a teacher for 30 years, and god bless her. Her reward is in heaven, right? ... My brother, who I think is the best schoolteacher in the year, and here's a shout-out to all those third graders at Gladys Wood Elementary School, you get extra credit for watching the debate."
yeah....that right there sounds VERY educated and well spoken. Someone who should be occupying the 2nd most powerful position in arguably the world.
ARe YOU ***** KIDDING ME?!?
retard. - gozroth, on 10/04/2008, -3/+8"voiced a common sentiment when he opined that Palin did well because "she didn't make any major mistakes.""
Opined? getting a little fancy there, Wired. Don't you understand that Joe Sixpack doesn't want your fangled Harvard speak? - ErickStevenson, on 10/04/2008, -0/+5It was a pretty good strategy though for the McCain campaign, all she had to do was not mess up and that would have been an improvement and they can play it out like, Hey atleast she made it through... yah that's great!
- versusugly, on 10/04/2008, -0/+5You m-mm-m-m-mmake me happy.
- EvilCan, on 10/04/2008, -3/+8I thought she didn't bomb but she didn't blow me away. Her inability to answer the question directed to her was aggravating, but her performance was miles above her Katie Couric interview. Doesn't change the fact that she isn't qualified to be vice president, but she does connect with people.
- eklife, on 10/04/2008, -7/+12expect to see more winks, more gosh darn it betcha gotcha craptcha stupidcha ***** wink wink.
the fact is Palin is nowhere near qualified to be a VP. - Technopundit, on 10/04/2008, -0/+5Some idiot at the RNC was holding up a sign that said "MAVERIK".
- utexas112, on 10/04/2008, -1/+6Can't blame her. Everything she knows about politics she learned from watching Bush on TV.
- ZenMojo, on 10/04/2008, -0/+5I'm pretty sure Tina Fey won't have THAT hard a time making fun of Sarah Palin for three minutes tonight.
- inactive, on 10/04/2008, -1/+6Maybe halfsies.
- elipabst, on 10/04/2008, -0/+4You forget that she was a TV reporter. She does a great job of regurgitating material fed to her by her handlers whether she has any intellectual understanding of it or not. Of course she's going to nail questions about Iran or the economy, cause that's what they've been pounding her with for the last 3 weeks. You see the *real* Palin when you ask her a question that's outside of her script, like those that Couric asked and it immediately reveals her as the vapid moron that she really is.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 10/04/2008, -0/+4Competent at what? Reading note cards? Reciting canned answers? Winking? I guess, but I'd kind of like a VP who can think.
