TiVo can predict "American Idol" losers

    • Cerebral, on 04/11/2008, -1/+3Just in case anyone cares there is a site: http://www.dialidol.com that uses a distributed dial-up modem network (whomever has a computer that downloads the software and has a dial-up modem) to dial all the numbers and based on the busy signal (and I'm sure some more algorithms) it determines who will get kicked off. I think it is over 90 some percent and gets better as less numbers there are to be called.
      I don't know why everyone cares so much about this but hey it's out there.

      I was especially impressed with this week's 'give back' show - it was star-studded and entertaining and for a good cause, really well produced.

      It gets a bad rap sometimes as a 'reality' show, but its much more like a variety show like we used to have in the 70's - totally harmless, wholesome entertainment the whole family would watch together. I think its great and I'm sorry I prejudged it all these years without actually watching it.

      I also used to think Ryan Seacrest was a complete tool - but I don't anymore. He's just a good host who doesn't really take himself as seriously as I had thought, and he definitely has a good sense of humor without being slapsticky. I am impressed when sometimes contestants get upset and he pulls out the right thing to say without being patronizing or coddling. He handles himself better live than most performers or hosts I have seen.

    i used to use http://dialidol.com/asp/predictions/Predictions.as ... and only watched the show because I was really interested in the statistics and seeing if they predicted accurately, it's right a lot of the time.

Forget American Idol, your TiVo is keeping track of not only what shows you watch, but when you skip or replay sections of a program. Then forwards that information to back to the company.
