(Revision by Morifen on reddit.) - GalacticRerun, on 07/02/2008, -11/+736Because they put badly drawn red circles around things?
- V3RT1G0LMI, on 07/02/2008, -7/+456this wouldnt be the first time we've seen this
- studdenfadden, on 07/02/2008, -92/+520Yeah digg is sooo much better. Right now the top 3 stories are: A day in the life of an IT guy, the dark night gets a new poster, and Christian Bale wants to do a 3rd Batman movie. As disgusting as it is, most people are more interested in Batman and Britney's sister than war and torture.
- Bowie, on 07/02/2008, -7/+284Don't forget -- You can buy all of CNN's snappy-sassy headlines on t-shirts.
The only company I know of that actually celebrates how horrid and illegitimate a news agency they've become. - wild, on 07/02/2008, -3/+200"Wed Dec 19th, 2007"
Really? You resubmitted this now? - bosssmiley, on 07/02/2008, -20/+215Difference: Digg was created for (and is still weighted towards) the techy/geeky niche market. CNN does not have that defence.
- swrostmore, on 07/02/2008, -4/+182Well played, sir.
- Naieve, on 07/02/2008, -10/+166As you write this, the top articles on digg.
1. A picture of women in burqas joking about which is hottest. (pic)
2. Where is your God now? (picture of a hammer vicariously balanced)
3. Macgyver gets lazy and uses a gun (pic)
4. Chrono trigger coming to DS (gaming)
5. People actually pay for this crap? (pic of jeans being sold for $200 hand painted)
6. 22 year CIA vet told to falsify Iran Intelligence, fired. (Wow only 6 down to hit something meaningful)
I like digg, but let's be honest people, we are all a bunch of hypocrites. - inactive, on 07/02/2008, -6/+138This is the 5th time I've seen this exact same article on the front page. Same pictures and everything. The damn thing gets copy/pasted from blog to blog and is always such a huge hit.
- nimawin, on 07/02/2008, -2/+126in order of what happened today on reddit:
1. http://www.webfilehost.com/images/mainstream-media ...
2. http://bp0.blogger.com/_4KEKSMgUizE/SGtyWnFVMqI/AA ...
3. http://img104.imageshack.us/img104/3440/brittanysh ...
4. http://img77.imageshack.us/img77/2524/acceptancesc ... - ConfusedCartman, on 07/02/2008, -0/+98I didn't even notice that until you pointed it out.
- rocketman42, on 07/02/2008, -5/+79Funny how the same seven month old picture re-appears on reddit and digg on the same day.
- inactive, on 07/02/2008, -9/+80why so serious?
- duffy89, on 07/02/2008, -10/+80No sane person wants to hear of some minor "celebrity" getting pregnant, especially that little *****. These news teams need to pull their heads out their arses.
- CosmicJustice, on 07/02/2008, -4/+71CNN was created for the exact same reason as Digg, to make money.
- Reddog_x2000, on 07/02/2008, -4/+62You're right, to an extent. There is a lot of frivolous material on Digg. There's no question about that.
But, to be fair, it's not supposed to be a "NEWS" site in the strict sense of the word. - Ljay90, on 07/02/2008, -4/+60I almost got the shirt that said "John McCain Is Aware Of The Internet".
- lpxxfaintxx2, on 07/02/2008, -0/+44No, he just stole it from a user at Reddit.com.
- ASSASSYN360, on 07/02/2008, -0/+41Nice observation. Your retort is well executed.
- Jo9100, on 07/02/2008, -6/+47digg doesn't pretend to be a source of news. it's a source of entertainment, with links to some news.
- cwmather, on 07/02/2008, -2/+40Nice.
- Blackham, on 07/02/2008, -0/+37'/sarcasm'?
Shouldn't it be '/Condescending ass'? - topherdavis, on 07/02/2008, -0/+34This is why I hate the person that posted a screen shot about why they hate CNN
http://www.sledgehammertotheface.com/2008/07/02/fu ... - Naieve, on 07/02/2008, -1/+32They are giving us what we ask for.
That is what to tell our children about little Spears.
It's not their fault we don't care, it's ours.
They are a business, they are just giving their customers what they want. - MadPooter, on 07/02/2008, -5/+35Read The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal or The Economist and reflect on your comment.
- TekeeTakShak, on 07/02/2008, -7/+35Why just CNN? Pretty much any broadcasting station/newspaper does this.
- inactive, on 07/02/2008, -0/+23american media sucks.
- fajitamelt, on 07/02/2008, -3/+25CNN puts on their website things that will keep people coming to it.
- Mononuclear, on 07/02/2008, -0/+21The reddit rebuttal has even been posted http://digg.com/comedy/No_f_you_reader_of_CNN
Actually half the stories I have read today on digg are from the last couple of days of reddit. - skizzy, on 07/02/2008, -9/+29Just sad what the company thinks we consider news.
- franklymister, on 07/02/2008, -5/+24Do most front page Digg stories come from 12 to 48 hour old Reddit stories, or is it just the ones I'm noticing? Does it go the other way as well?
I'm not making a joke, I really wonder. - Laminarcissus, on 07/02/2008, -2/+21Digg is not supposed to be CNN in any way.
In Digg, one individual posts a link to a story and then a large group of other individuals, with no research, forethought, or coordination, simply cast one vote to promote that story for whatever motivation they choose. They may think it's important, or have a personal agenda, or they may promote bad stories to try to discredit Digg. Who knows? The important part is no one tries to know including Digg. There is no specific mechanism for quality control.
CNN, however, sets their own standard by putting themselves forward as a credible, international source of news. They put editors in between us and the raw news who are supposedly experts in their field, prioritizing the information so that we can assimilate it and form an accurate assessment of the situation.
Diggs mechanism, because there are no expectations attached, is fine. CNN's mechanism, however, has been corrupted by the business side of the company, short-circuiting what I hope were the good intentions of editors in favor of empty calories that make the owners money, the world worse, and the editors a laughingstock. - fourzerofour, on 07/02/2008, -0/+17the point is, they were clicked
- manningbowl135, on 07/02/2008, -1/+18And the links that guy clicked on are:
pregnant skydiver dies.
Romney: Man of the year choice "disgusting."
Family's twig help sign leads to rescue.
But he did not click on the mass graves and $70 billion war budget.
Hypocrite. - Hrodrik, on 07/02/2008, -4/+18Isn't this the US version? They are reporting news to a target audience.
- ausfahrt, on 07/02/2008, -2/+16US Torture Tactics at Guantánamo Inspired by Communist China is on there right now.
- celkin, on 07/02/2008, -0/+13/fail
- CMfly, on 07/02/2008, -3/+16Do they have the "Cheerleader gets creamed by football team?"
- ChokingVictims, on 07/02/2008, -1/+14No, because they keep calling Jamie Spears "Britney's Sister", she's her own person.
- TheJas, on 07/02/2008, -0/+13Or more accurately, this is why you hated CNN in Dec of 07.
- zhephree, on 07/02/2008, -1/+14Like Digg?
- fajitamelt, on 07/02/2008, -0/+12Um, what pays the news team salaries are the people that read the stuff they write. If people aren't interested in the stuff they right about, they wouldn't be writing about it.
- ThatDustyGuy, on 07/02/2008, -0/+13Look below the link, I gave an attribution to Morifen.
- SPECOPS, on 07/02/2008, -0/+12From reddit (as was the original story/pic): http://bp0.blogger.com/_4KEKSMgUizE/SGtyWnFVMqI/AA ...
- CatalystDM, on 07/03/2008, -0/+12This is why I love reddit?
- denyde, on 07/02/2008, -0/+11hahaha...that guy clearly doesn't care about the issues either...visited links: "Pregnant skydiver falls 50 mph to asphalt" and "Ticker: Romney: Man of Year choice 'disgusting'"....ridiculous...
- verbose, on 07/02/2008, -2/+13If it weren't for this story on Digg, I wouldn't know that Britney Spears had a sister.
- inactive, on 07/02/2008, -1/+12you misspelled "idiots"
I hate what digg has become - tomwhughes, on 07/03/2008, -0/+10haha this actually made me go and give reddit a second chance.
I can't believe I didn't notice the story about blue skinned man - kinda remind me of Tobias from Arrested Development:
"I'm afraid I just blue myself" -
