But that doesn't make the American version any less of a hilarious show. I'd like to add one scene in there. Does anyone else remember when it was michael's birthday and they all went ice skating.. The US version is definitely more lighthearted. Parts of the UK version are downright dark. And I doubt anything in the US version will match the Christmas Special.

If you find extreme, cringe-worthy discomfort enjoyable like Curb your Enthusiasm and Extras, then you will probably like the UK version better. If you enjoy more of the Seinfeld subtle, fine-line discomfort level (like Seinfeld) you will probably like the American version better. There are also those who are simply contrarians and dismiss the American version because its not the original, even though Gervais and Merchant produced it. I enjoy both versions, as well as Extras, but prefer the lesser discomfort humor of the US version. I find Michael Scott to be a much more complex and redeemable character than David Brent, who I really despise at times. That said, I believe the UK version has far fewer so-so/poor episodes than the US version (yes, US has many more episodes).

Plus the longer series makes you more relate-able to the characters as you know them more. Then again some people just judge the fact that it's technically a remake and slate it.
