- SultanTravi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+138I'm so glad LOST is finally back to being completely awesome!
- themastersb, on 10/12/2007, -7/+126I never even noticed that there was a person there when watching it last night.

Did anyone else think it would have been cooler if Ben was really insane and spoke to an empty chair, sort of like Norman Bates. We could still have some answers about mystery island but now with a manipulative lunatic a the helm. Now I'm left wondering why the hell is Jacob invisible and why does he have telekineses and why does he need Locke's help. Also my money says that the island heals Locke. - michaelb1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+68"Agreed. Hey Lost, I haven't forgot about the damn smoke monster. Explain that *****."
The smoke monster is that ashy powder stuff Locke bent down and inspected before they entered Jacobs house.
Jacob controlls it with his mind. - mortey, on 10/12/2007, -10/+75I really enjoyed that episode. For me personally, I thought that was the best Lost episode I have ever seen. Bury me or whatever; my .02 Cents.
- rayman901, on 10/12/2007, -2/+52Looks like Alvar Hanso
Someone posted this in the comments: http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Image:AlvarHansoProfile.jpg - robdiggity, on 10/12/2007, -1/+49Maybe Locke might resemble Jacob, but that is incidental to the fact that Locke likely is related to Alvar/Magnus Hanso. Jacob = Hanso, captain of the Black Rock, the slave ship. Mutiny wrecked the Black Rock on the island, and her crew became the Hostiles. Martin is one such crew member. All the crew are still alive through the time bending effects of the island, only partially understood and formalized through the "Life Extension Project" of the Hanso Foundation, the same foundation that funded the Dharma Initiative on the Island.
Check this image, and tell me that aint Jacob:

Anyway, yeah, Jacob = Hanso. - wingnut21, on 10/12/2007, -6/+55Agreed. Hey Lost, I haven't forgot about the damn smoke monster. Explain that *****.
On the up side, it'll be interesting to hear the background of the natives. - cptshamrock, on 10/12/2007, -5/+47Lost has been closing 1 door and opening like 5 more.
- Kevinok, on 10/12/2007, -3/+39Damnit Lost, I am now more lost then ever.
- bentracy, on 10/12/2007, -15/+50the profile looks alot like Lock.
- Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+35A giant smoke monster that kills people and rips trees was supposed to be scientifically explained?
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -7/+38It could be Locke's "bad twin".
- danwallace, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30People got impatient with the story line, but I still have faith it's all going to come together. This is a great twist. Excellent episode.
- Jrr6415sun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29They have said recently that the monster won't be explained until the end of the series.
- pkfx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30Do you work for Verizon?
- defubar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30Kris Kristofferson?
- ja1217, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26My theory is that Ben is some how holding Jacob hostage, which could explain the powder/sand substance which was in a ring around the house. It could be some sort of barrier that keeps Jacob from leaving.
- madctch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26He kinda looks like Kris Kristofferson.
- michaelb1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22"Did anyone else think it would have been cooler if Ben was really insane and spoke to an empty chair, sort of like Norman Bates"
I immediately though of Pyscho when they showed that chair and the way Ben was talking to it.
It was pretty creepy. - aboyd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23@ xen0blue
Did you see the show? The chair was empty. Then Locke turns on the flashlight and suddenly a man is in the chair and things are flying through the air.
Jacob is Ben's leader. Jacob might be being held captive by the circle of something-or-other that surrounds his house. Jacob might be a pirate from the ship, considering his old-style clothes and the time-stretching properties of the island. Jacob might have the ability to be invisible, or he might able to slip in and out of time.
Perhaps the most interesting suggestion about him yet is the one I just read elsewhere. It goes like this. Ben was the only one who could see Jacob, because Jacob can only be seen by those who have murdered their own family. Ben has done this. Ben asked Locke to do this also. Locke supposedly did it. Ben brings Locke to see Jacob. Locke says, "there is no one in the chair" and suddenly Ben knows Locke lied about killing his father. But then, in a twist of twists that maybe even Ben didn't expect, Locke can hear Jacob. It really seems like Ben wasn't expecting Jacob to whisper something to Locke only. - plaing, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24this is pretty good:

I hope he is Locke, that would be cool.
From the theories section "Locke has a special connection to the Island, which, if a cyclical time situation exists, would give him unique insight. Also, Locke has stated he has no plans to leave the Island in the event of rescue. In addition, comparing Jacob and Locke's portraits together reveal a stunning similarity. " - quantumHobbit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21But with a fuzzy pixelated beard and long hair.
- leo2033, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19I don't think the writers would kill Locke. As someone already stated, I think that the island will probably heal him thanks to his unique connection to the island. It's nice to have some good episodes these past few episodes. Much better than those fall episodes.
- shortmilton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19He only has four toes on his left foot!!!
- appleman108, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21no, because that would just be another ridiculous plot line that would ruin a lot of the answers that still remain unanswered.
Also, I love lost, but i really do not like the idea of the "invisible" jacob. - insomn3ak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18It's gotta be Alvar Hanso...here's his pic http://www.thehansofoundation.org/
Plus, if you put your cursor in the center of the screen, then right click/rewind on the flash presentation you can hear him giving some kind of speech. One of the acronyms at the bottom stands for "Life Extension Project".
...interesting. - darkamster07, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19^ thats the thing that really bugs me, for all we know, "smokey" could theoretically be almost every single ***** up thing we have seen on the island up till now....of course that would be kinda lame.
BTW I think Ben's mom was the monster. - appleman108, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16i agree, this was a great episode. This one and the Desmond flashback one where he appears to leave the island are my favorites from this season. I wouldn't say that this is my favorite of all time, however, because the finales are always awesome.
- doodlebumm, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20At the beginning of next season Kate is going to be showering at the hatch and realize that this last season was just a dream.
- kcpwnsgman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16What about the fact that the question of Jack's dead dad missing and still on the island? I mean really, in one of the first few episodes of season one, we find out that casket is empty, some one please answer me that, IT'S BEEN BOTHERING ME FOR 3 SEASONS
- thezettabytes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Lost producers say that Jacob will become a very important character in LOST universe
Damon Lindelof "And this is a character(Jacob) who is every bit as significant to our universe as the Emperor was to the Star Wars universe — a character that you didn't get to meet until Return of the Jedi but was referred to all through the preceding films. Jacob is a guy who is going to have a very significant, ongoing sort of story value in our show." - dcipjr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16I'm pretty sure that's a fake. I brought that screen grab into Photoshop and messed with the levels on the original side of the picture, and couldn't get even close to the amount of detail in the "enhanced" version. Plus if you lighten it up, you'll see that the face structure is different, most noticeably in the nose and chin. Plus the hair in the enhanced version is different -- the part on the side is stretched out in the new version.
- skryingbreath, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Shut the ***** up, Donny.
- spudnic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12@fober (#6625380)
The clue is in the title - phaed, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14To tell you the truth the show is a huge ***** the likes of which have never been seen
- dosle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10but Rousseau has an accent =/
- openyoureyes17, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12okay this is off topic but it is something i've been wanting to point out. ben and rousso have that daughter. rousso would have HAD to get pregnant ON the island. why didn't she die?
- MSRedImp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Lost is getting absolutely amazing again, and for all those idiots who stopped watching it...their loss, they deserve it for having a tiny patience span, Lost is an enjoyable drama, and despite the slow reveal of things the audience would like to know...the show is fantastic.
- csnoke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11When I saw the photo the first thing I thought was "It's the Dude!"
- MikeD606, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9yea they show the Red Sox winning the World series in October 2004. Since the plane crashed in September '04 (about 30-40 days prior to the World Series finale) and only about 90 days have passed since then, that is a pretty recent event at the time Juliet showed it.
- mrgreen4242, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9"okay this is off topic but it is something i've been wanting to point out. ben and rousso have that daughter. rousso would have HAD to get pregnant ON the island. why didn't she die?"
I don't think there is any compelling reason to believe she's Ben's daughter. Rousso said she was pregnant/had a newborn when she came to the island with her research team, including husband, didn't she? The Others could have taken the baby, killed the researchers, and Ben could have raised her as his own. - knodi, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15I use to think everything in Lost was have a scientific explanation at the end but after this Jacob thing now I'm thinking its more supernatural then scientific.
- iyeeee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Clearly Jacob is owen wilson. Check the nose.
- Cl1mh4224rd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I'm pretty sure they/he used the word "rationally", not "scientifically". I might be wrong, though, but if not... there's a difference between the two.
- aboyd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@ Aliarse,
You still rock, though. Don't be sad. - Aliarse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@xen0blue (#6626996)
They're important, well, as important as a TV show can be anyway, because Ben takes Locke to see this mysterious Jacob fella, who no-one else but Ben (and Ben's daughter I'm assuming, because she gave Locke a gun.) has seen.
When they get to the place Jacob is in, Ben starts talking to an empty chair. Locke cannot see him, and thinks Ben's a nutjob and likes talking to himself. Locke starts walking out of Jacobs cabin when he hears someone say "Help Me.". Locke turns around and says that Ben said it.
Then all this crazy ***** starts happening, things flying across the room, rocking chair moving with no-one in it, etc, and for a quick second or so you see a figure of a person sat in the same seat Ben was talking to, where no-one was before. Which is whats shown in the images in the link.
You have to watch it to get the full picture. In fact, Id say you'd have to have watched all the lost episodes to be really interested in it.
[edit] I guess aboyd beat me to it while i was typing, oh well. - xpankrat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Not bad indeed. But there was an episode where Juliette was showing Jack TV recording of a very recent event (some baseball game). If they were in fact in a past, this would've not been possible.
- ChefGroovy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7 He hates technology, so he's old school.
Jacob has something to do with that Pirates ship or slave ship or whatever it was. Maybe the captain -
