- MScrip, on 10/17/2008, -4/+182I'd buy that for a dollar!
Sorry, there was a Robocop article on Digg earlier... - Dumbledorito, on 10/17/2008, -3/+169"Well, I've always been a firm believer in the three R's. Reading TV Guide, um... Writing to TV Guide, um... and Renewing TV Guide."
- Homer Simpson - geoken, on 10/17/2008, -4/+157They should have asked me. I would have gave them at least $1.50
- benman587, on 10/17/2008, -1/+107*pushes Guide button*
- theutopian, on 10/17/2008, -3/+91What a steal!
Too bad with the advent of Digital Cable Guides, Tivo and the Internet, TV Guide has become pretty much irrelevant.
The $1 may not be a good investment. Print is not a growth industry. - JoeMerchant, on 10/17/2008, -0/+81Doubt you've got the financial stones to deal with their debt.
- burbankmarc, on 10/17/2008, -1/+74there's always money in the banana stand *wink*
- thundacracka, on 10/17/2008, -1/+58Shoulda put it on eBay.
- fuzzynyanko, on 10/17/2008, -2/+48I really hate the TV Guide channel because they kept shrinking down the listings and putting more of the video feed at the top of the screen.
- geoken, on 10/17/2008, -0/+45No sweat. I just get a bail out then hit up some California resorts.
- josephbloseph, on 10/17/2008, -1/+45Robocop article?
I'd buy that for a dollar! - eatsushi, on 10/17/2008, -2/+41Remember that Simpsons episode were Bart bought the factory for $1? Man, I would be having so much fun inside that TV Guide office right now...
- Chebsi, on 10/17/2008, -2/+36I accidentally your comment.
- Papagoose, on 10/17/2008, -1/+34I would imagine its liabilities are substantially more then $1
- bacchante, on 10/17/2008, -1/+30They could have gotten more from people who just wanted to say the owned TV Guide for 5 minutes before they went bankrupt.
- josephbloseph, on 10/17/2008, -2/+28Step 1: Give a flamer (read: arsonist) you met at prison a job at your new company
Step 2: ???
Step 3: Profit! - Zelmatic, on 10/17/2008, -1/+22I would've bought it for tree fiddy.
- chubbybubba, on 10/17/2008, -3/+24At least it's worth $700,000,000,001.00 more than those crappy mortgage lenders.
- anthaneezy, on 10/17/2008, -4/+24I ACCIDENTALLY THE WHOLE COMPANY.
- Trifold, on 10/17/2008, -2/+20Does the company come with a free issue? That could be a deal breaker.
- poppacherry, on 10/17/2008, -1/+18I'd buy it and then turn it into a pornographic publication.
- BillMoocho, on 10/17/2008, -0/+17The whole thing?
- KenSPT, on 10/17/2008, -1/+17I'm fairly confident the only people who still purchase and use TV Guide nowadays are senior citizens, I say that because my 87 year old Grandmother still finds enjoyment in going through the magazine and highlighting the shows she wants to watch ...
- nickert0n, on 10/17/2008, -0/+14Poo on Mr Garrsions Desk
- inactive, on 10/17/2008, -7/+20Hey guys, I just TV Guide, is this bad?
- Takfam, on 10/17/2008, -0/+12Direct Mail isn't AdBlocked with Firefox.
- KibibyteBrain, on 10/17/2008, -1/+13How dare they make a more appealing product!
- Dumbledorito, on 10/17/2008, -2/+14Our local newspaper started doing online ads itself, and became a news portal. Adapt, adopt, and improve.
- inactive, on 10/17/2008, -0/+11There is a channel, but it scrolls so damn slow, shows 2 channels at a time, and they show digital cable channels along with the normal cable channels, so it takes a very long time to cycle through. Old people also don't know how to bring up the channel guides on digital cable systems if they have them, because hitting the Guide button might cause a swarm of robots to break into their house and eat up all their medications.
- KibibyteBrain, on 10/17/2008, -2/+13Um, quite a bit. The GDP of the US is $13.3T a year. This would be like saying a guy who makes $200k/year but had a $100k mortgage was worth nothing. Sure, you'd rather not have the mortgage, especially when in hindsight the home you payed for sucks and is mostly worthless, but its not like he is a hobo, either.
- toxicityj, on 10/17/2008, -3/+14don't be such an oxymoron.
- Dumbledorito, on 10/17/2008, -2/+12*mute*
Sorry, what was that? Here's your dollar.
What? No, man, I can't hear you. Just take the dollar.
I don't know sign language. Here, I'm putting the dollar in your pants. Thanks. See you later. - kingmanic, on 10/17/2008, -0/+9Take the various division, split them up and say sell the marketing division to Google, editorial division to direct tv, sell the printing presses piecemeal etc. . . and maybe you'll profit.
- mattbelanger, on 10/17/2008, -1/+10Actual retail price is 1$. Im sorry but you all overbid.... ***** YOU DREW CAREY
- Shakermaker, on 10/17/2008, -1/+9A joke doesn't really work when you have to explain it....
- mattbelanger, on 10/17/2008, -1/+9Hello my name is Akwa Abujabi. My father is a king from Nigeria. Unfortunately he passed away and left me an inheritance. For me to claim this I need 100000$ American dollars. If you send me this money now I will be glad to repay you once I receive the money.
- insomniac8400, on 10/17/2008, -3/+113 million subscribers and they are losing money? They can't make and print tv guide for less than 9 million a month? I find that laughable.
- inactive, on 10/17/2008, -1/+8Old people?
- JeffNothing, on 10/17/2008, -0/+7Smash TV? I'd buy that for a dollar!
- inactive, on 10/17/2008, -1/+8
TV GUIDE CEO: You sold our company for how much!? - Buckwyld, on 10/17/2008, -1/+7Although they were given $9,499,999, to help jump start the company (which will have to be paid back with interest), the job ahead for the private equity firm will probably be a tough one. I will admit, I sometimes use their web service tvguide.com, but how many people actually use pick up a paper copy at the store. What I say next may not be realistic... I believe TV guide could be profitable, but (and that's a big but), there has to be some serious changes in form of distribution, mfg, and content. It already comes with 3 million subscribers and maybe even cutting some of them will bring profit.
- ostracize, on 10/17/2008, -0/+6Liquidate all assets and run!
- austenallred, on 10/17/2008, -0/+6AND LIABILITIES. That means $1 plus a whole lot of debt.
- Takfam, on 10/17/2008, -0/+6Print will be profitable as long as the postal mail system is in place. Direct Mail advertising is still the cheapest there is.
- bodegit, on 10/17/2008, -1/+7I use my iphone in the bathroom.
- cloudcity, on 10/17/2008, -0/+5My wife watches the TV Guide channel. Not for the listings though, she actually watches the little interviews and stuff. It's pretty bizarre.
- diggimator, on 10/17/2008, -0/+5I got one of those in physical mail once. It even had a postage stamp from the Netherlands.
- G-moe, on 10/17/2008, -0/+5TVguide.com is pretty awful for listings...
http://tv.msn.com/tv/guide/ is much better - byrdgang, on 10/17/2008, -0/+5I thought, "Great, someone is pointing the error out!" until I read the next line. The next line is even better than pointing out the error. :)
- eclectro, on 10/17/2008, -0/+5Actually you guys FAIL it big time. It *does not* have a positive balance sheet. as it loses *20 million* a year. Do you guys have 20 mill pocket change you want to light fire to??
