- dunezone, on 10/11/2007, -2/+79He doesn't really talk about the current state of The Simpsons like the title says. He goes over how he was hired to write and how he left and why animation is easier to work with then what he does now. I wish he would of commented on if the show had lost its touch but he doesn't really watch the show he probably couldn't comment on that anyway.
- rm999, on 10/11/2007, -2/+35Exactly, this headline is way too misleading. Digg is starting to remind me too much of a sensational tabloid because people are digging based on the headlines instead of the content of the articles.
- Corinthos, on 10/11/2007, -0/+27I miss Conan back when Andy was on it with him. Back in the days when a bunch of people I never heard of were guest and when they got Samuel L. Jackson appeared they bought him a special chair.
- SpectralSounds, on 10/11/2007, -5/+30Conan is the man. That is all.
- sigafoo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+24Great article, enjoy Conan
Terrible title, dislike danielrh9 - MrClownn, on 10/11/2007, -9/+26I'm really tired of the Simpsons bashing. The majority of people that say "it sucks now" and "it hasn't been any good since Season 6" are the same people that don't watch the show anymore. Of course the show had low points; you can't have highs without lows. But season 18 has been right on 90% of the time, with less zany-wacky humor and more social commentary. A show that has over 400 episodes under it's belt requires a lot of work to stay fresh and significant. Try watching the show on a Sunday evening and tell me you don't laugh out loud more than once. If you don't, then you take ***** way too seriously and need to lighten up.
- godspoken, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11The headline may be inaccurate but it seems a shame (and a bit pedantic) to digg it down on that basis alone. The article is still an interesting read. The Simpsons really was/is a great show that has stayed relevant and funny for a long time.
I Dugg it. - Azdak, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Isn't really what the title makes it out to be, but still a good read.
- capiCrimm, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Buried for pointing out inaccuracy.
- oambro, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8conan replaced letterman 14 years ago when letterman came on after leno. and yes, conan is replacing leno soon.
- electioneering, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8all I know is that whenever i watch a rerun and see "written by conan o'brien" i'm not changing the channel.
- oMeSSiaHo, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11Its funny. If Conan hadnt gone on to be famous this interview wouldnt exist. He was only around for a season and wrote two episodes. People like John Swartswelder, who wrote 50+ (and the best) episodes and has been around since day one, arent ever recognized for what they have done. It's dumb that it bothers me, I need a life. =(
- zeropointD, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Dane Cook is a hack.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4It's not rape if Paris initiates it.
- capiCrimm, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5that's good, because he doesn't.
- Asianwaste, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Golden years: Getting an entire audience of 4th graders.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6he replaced letterman on late night doofus
- gbro, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I'm going to create a green coloured hair gel called "Conan's Fox Money".
- capiCrimm, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7This just in BIGFOOT seen raping PARIS HILTON. You decide at 10:00!
- metahugh, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3bzzzzt, He is also replacing Jay Leno Doofus =)
- Koldkompress, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3...I think I'd pay to see that.
- TRUEPATRIOT, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3great read. i love the part about him and Jeff Martin creating a game around screwing a pool stick and taking it seriously, because ive done same with a few friends.we would keep hitting a ball into the air and make all these rules on where you could walk, how long the ball can keep contact with your hand, even how many times you could bounce the ball of a wall.
- Asianwaste, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I'd have to agree. It was more on the good ol' days when he wrote for the Simpsons, than the current state of.
- DollaDollaBill, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4ahh, the golden years, good times. 4 anniversary specials or central time news years countdown, anyone?
- consonance, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4I watched the last season a few times. A lot of it was godawful. At one point I just said, "That's it," and turned off the TV midway through a show. The episode "24 Minutes," which was actually good, was the only truly great episode of the season.
- digg-dugg, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3How do you digg an article but bury the guy who posted it?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3It didn't when he was writing for it!
- Caleb83, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Dugg for the SHO reference. Also because it's Conan.
- JordanM85, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Doesn't talk at all about the current state of the Simpsons.....?
- agntcalvin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3People who use the word 'pedantic' are pedantic.
- tzonic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1noooooo! Leno is so much better. He can let the jokes stand for themselves, even with that chin. Conan has to make an ass of himself to make his jokes be laughable.
- WillieThePimp, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Although the Simpsons bashing crowd would like you to believe otherwise, the show has remained remarkably consistent during its run. It's impossible to remain stellar over 400+ episodes, but they have come as close as any show could.
That being said, Futurama is a MUCH better show. It's also better than Family Guy, American Dad, Aqua Teen, South Park, or any other animated show. People almost always object when I say that, but that's only because Futurama isn't as readily accessible as the other shows I mentioned. Give it a chance, get to know the characters, and you will be as excited for its return as I am. - KatieBee, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2conan rocks.
- michael78779, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1mmmm....
screw the simpsons...
potatos o'brien - MatthewBlack, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Yes, yes and ***** yes. Why does noone else seem to understand this?
- warrenwebber, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Inacurate but still a good/ article. sometimes you need to lie to get noticed. buried for spite
- danielrh9, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3For those stating that my choice of title is inaccurate... I based the title on this quote from Conan:
"Think about how much television's changed since I've been doing the Late Night show. There are so many more programs, and so much more niche programming. It's getting so refined and so reductive that it's getting to the point where there are 700 shows and 11 people are watching each one. The Simpsons always managed to thread this needle that's increasingly becoming impossible to thread..."
He's actually speaking on how the role of the show has changed over time and how it is relative now. Transversely, the current state of the show. If you find it misleading, I regret that you feel that way but I cannot be held responsible for your incorrect assumptions and interpretations. - COMPACTION, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Conan is boring watch Craig Ferguson.
- arthurp88, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2In the year 2000, The Simpsons, won't have as much good episodes as they did in the past........in the year 2000........................

Dig That :) - ricree, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Yeah, the headline is incredibly accurate, so I buried it too. It's a shame, though, because it is actually a fairly good interview.
- slinky317, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1This has nothing to do with the current state of the show, buried as inaccurate.
- Asianwaste, on 10/11/2007, -3/+212 seasons is hardly considered a mere low point. If the stock market crashed again and stayed crashed for 10 years, that practically the end of an entire nation.
- ICSU, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2I say since season 10. There is still a good episode now and then but just exceptions to prove the rule.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+4It sucks in the same way that family guys sucks Random does not equal funny.
- arturo611, on 10/11/2007, -5/+3Thanks Mr. Clownn,
You nailed the reason why the show sucks now. "'less zany-wacky humor and more social commentary" Zany wacky humor is what a cartoon should be. As for social commentary, I can find it at other places that do a much better job, i.e. South Park, Daily Show, blogs, and others. So yes Mr. Clownn, the Simpsons nowadays suck and they have sucked for a while. - mandarin, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2meh
- Unrefined, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1A lot of you are saying he didn't comment on how the show is now, but I think indirectly he did. When he said he hadn't watched it in a decade I think that says quite a bit about what he thinks of the show now, or maybe I'm just reading to much into that...either way Viva La Spider Pig!
- Shiftgood, on 10/11/2007, -10/+7Of course he likes to write for Mr. Burns.... Mr. Burns is the best character on the simpsons!
/And if you say homer simpsion i will stab you in the jaw. Just look for me out side, ill be the one stabbing jaws. - CornStarch, on 10/11/2007, -6/+3interesting interview, but not much on the current (deplorable IMO) state of the Simpsons.
@MrClownn I can say it's horrible because I do still watch it. And those things talked about in the interview like being overly cartoony and defying physics and such are now done on the Simpsons with regularity. -
