- artemster, on 07/25/2008, -1/+3John McCain: a great president OR the greatest president?
- TheCash, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1So I have this annoying neighbor. Horrible family, ugly house, loud and obnoxious... the works. Guy used to irritate me to no end, till one day I realized that being his 180 degree opposite, chances are I annoyed him just as much. This led to the revelation that getting all worked up over the quirks or life choices of others that don't directly affect me is just plain retarded. It's not my life, my home, my family or my choices, so what the hell do I care?
I think the same thing applies to Fox, CNN, MSNBC etc. They all pretty much annoy the hell out of me by focusing on non-stories and fluff pieces, continually hyping up minor things for the sake of ratings just long enough till the next minor thing comes along, endlessly parading overly intellectual or overly emotional talking heads that feel they know better then I do about how to think or feel regarding current events, etc.
I know media bias is a horrible thing and all, but we live in a country where we have the right to turn it off and ignore it if we choose to. It's not crammed down our necks endlessly like some other places, and thanks for that. Sure, the thought of this drivel influencing weaker minds en mass, thus swaying the direction of the country can be frustrating, but what would you have us do; ban all free speech, or just block that which we disagree with the modern equivalent of the SS? Me, I don't want the government or special interest groups deciding what I can or cannot watch, nor do I want them controlling what anyone else can or cannot watch. Freedom of thought and expression is a double edged sword sometimes... it sucks, but there it is. As it stands, you all have the right to tune in or out at your own discretion. Is a world where that is no longer an option really one where you would prefer to live? How high a price would abolishing Fox News be, and would it be worth it? - TheMachine1, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1My neigbors scare me.
- MCA2142, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1Q: Would you rather ***** it, and do it live?
